Kyoko - Today at 11:10 AM
"No, no. I don't turn to ash in sunlight. I mean, I sunburn easily, but that's because I'm European." Luis looks over the pool tables in the combination terrible sushi place/student entertainment room and he glances curiously at one of the old arcade machines. "I just kinda lose most of my powers. Which, whatever."
Roan nods. "I think that was from a movie?"
"Maybe? I don't have movies. But I mean, there are lots of kinds of vampires all across the multiverse. The ones from here are some kind of fear spirit thing. It doesn't take much creativity to come up with the idea of 'life energy is powerful, so if I steal someone else's life energy, I could be more powerful', and that's basically the root of what they've got in common."
Maz - Today at 11:14 AM
Sig muches down a spring roll and nods. "Huh. Okay. See, I didn't even really know Vampires were a thing. Closest I knew was one of my-"
He stops, thinks for a moment.
"One of the guys that my Dad... used to work with. His quirk was very Vampire-like. Could suck blood through his fingertips or by drinking it."
He shivers for a moment.
"Just glad I never had to see him do it."

"Dads." Luis says. "Why does it always have to be dads?"
Luis slides you the drink (of soda) he bought which he hasn't touched for reasons that are probably obvious.
Maz - Today at 11:17 AM
A quick thumbs up, and a sip.
"Well... er... Foster. Dad."
He seems a bit hesitant to go into it
I mean, how do you explain that kind of life?!
And it's not like I want to exactly be all like "Hey, lookit me! I'm predisposed to being a criminal! Hoo-weee!"
I take another sip and shrug.
"I try to ignore most of what they taught me."

Luis, apparently, is presdisposed to being a vampire, so, y'know, he can probably sympathize.
"I know exactly what you mean."
Maz - Today at 11:19 AM
"But how about you? I mean, the cape and all. Kind of a bold fashion statement."
Kyoko - Today at 11:21 AM
"Sort of. It's... normal-ish where I'm from, and I saw the Avatar, so I thought it was normal here too." He looks back. "I don't wanna give it up. I mean, yeah, it's Dad's, and Dad is a monster who I'm glad won't be coming back for another seventy years if at all, but..." A weak sort of shrug.
"Life is complicated," Roan says. "Claim yourself wherever you find it."
Maz - Today at 11:24 AM
"Nah, yeah, I mean. If it's you, it's you. Just, uh..."
I take another sip.
"I'm sure you know the dangers a cape can pose when you're in the field."
I finish off the soda and smile.
"Then again, you're a Vampire. I'm sure you've got ways around it."
"How about you Roan? Had to take ages to train yourself to move in that kind of armor. Especially considering you're from, uh... Back home. What do we call our world?"

Roan looks around. "Everyone's still trying to figure that stuff out. I mean, you can't even get a scientific name because everyone wants their dimension to be the reference point. It's a pretty hard sell to get normal people to not want to call their world 'Earth'."
"Have to say I'm not thrilled with the prospect." says Luis. "I mean, apparently Great-Grandfather is the thing that makes my world the most different from other worlds we've encountered-"
"Right, and Quirks are ours-"
"But that guy is responsible for worse stuff than my Dad, so, screw him."
"Yeah, and what kind of a message is it to send to the Quirkless?"

"Right? I mean, there's still people out there that do plenty of good without a quirk! Cops, EMTs, all sorts of folks. Calling our world Quirk Earth would be kind of a dick move to them."
I lean back in the chair, my thoughts now turning to what Luis just said.
So his family line has been primarily villain based, huh? I can relate...
"Your family... I'm guessing they don't approve of your choice to be a hero?"

"I keep telling you I'm not a hero. I'm a member of a town watch with certain extra bonuses." Luis looks... well, hardly uncomfortable for a moment, but more exasperated with his family. "Great-Grandfather... well, you don't have him here. Dude basically declared war on the entire world thirteen centuries ago."
"That sucks, buddy." Roan says.
Maz - Today at 11:41 AM
Thirteen Centuries huh... Yup, that's kinda outside my frame of reference!
"Understatement of the century, Roan."
"Okay, so, Town Watch then. I mean, no matter what you're still attending Pinnacle right? From what I know the place has a bit of a reputation, right? So even if you aren't 'exactly' a Hero you're still gonna end up more heroic than not..."
I look to Roan...
"R-Right?"
I mean, there was the way Strike always seemed to complain about the Dean.
And Miss Angelmark's language issues.
I didn't accidently enroll in some sort of anti-hero school, did I?

Luis shrugs. "Being heroic, you know, whatever. I just don't want to see anyone else get hurt over a stupid war that did exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to. If I learn how to do that here, I'm here."

"Sounds like a hero to me."

"Whatever."
Maybe it's a school for heroes who don't think they're heroes? I mean, that's your read on the Dean.
You should probably do some research on her eventually.
