Mapping the Irene Response

As it starts to rain here in Burlington, it's becoming really important to document the extent of the flooding before the traces change, as well as to coordinate the response as locally as possible. If you're in a position to do so, we'd be psyched if you'd help out by doing one of the following on the map:

1.) Emergency management contacts have recommended we compile locations and photos of high water points and damage around the state. Enter the locations of photos you've taken on the map, using the appropriate tags: "Washout", "Downed Power Line", etc.

It's a pretty straightforward interface from a laptop or home computer, but if you're mobile-enabled, download the free Ushahidi App (http://download.ushahidi.com/) on your Android or iPhone and collect high water marks that way. Once it's installed, "Add Deployment" --> vtirene.crowdmap.com, and you're set to enter info from the field using your smartphone's GPS.

2.) The crowdmap site is also being used to collect relief coordination info - if you can be geographically-specific about needs for help or assistance that can be offered, enter it on the map using the "Coordination" tag. Also works on mobile.

In both cases, enter whatever information you can; no need to fill out the form completely. Stay safe, and thank you all for the work you've been doing; we're lucky to have such a great community in Vermont.
