- Cho was furiously writing all of what he remembered down. There was a pattern to this. He would get summoned to participate in some tournament, then have to face relentless battles. And yet, when it was all over, his memories would begin to fade away… until he was summoned again. It was like he had a second brain, a second life there. But why? He needed to remember every little detail so he could decode this.
- “I was in a mansion… I remember that much. Was there a skeleton? Maybe. Augh, this is too much! Everytime I write something down, I forget another thing! I can’t even be sure if everything I wrote so far is true, or some kind of false memory.”
- “Well, I suppose I can help you with that.” As if on cue, Phane stepped into the room behind Cho. Instantly, calculations ran through his mind. If he threw the pencil on his table at just the right angle with just the right force, he could penetrate this stranger’s eye and would have just enough time to follow up with his mace. First, he would see what this man wanted, and then decide how he’d follow up.
- “First, I should probably explain who I am. My name is Phane, and I’m here to invite you, once again, to the Character Scramble. It’s a tournament where you’ll meet people all over the world, and fight for your greatest desire.”
- Phane… the name seemed familiar, if only vaguely. Still, what he just described sounded just like what he was trying so hard to remember. It was worth a listen.
- “Really, this is like the 4th or 5th time you’re being invited. You should know the drill by now.”
- “Well, I can’t really seem to remember it.”
- “Strange. Must be some sort of timeline shenanigans. Well, I’m sure you’ll remember in due time. Or not, who knows. It might be more fun that way.”
- (...)
- “Because the prize is one wish. I can grant your any desire. It’s quite the tempting reward. Plus, if you join once more, you may just get your memories back. If you wish to join, then the orb is on the table. I’m sure a certain man or woman or other being named /u/7thSonofSons
- would love to see you back in action.” With that, Phane vanished without a trace. Cho looked at his notes, all of the memories he wrote down. Somehow, the words he wrote down disappeared. It seemed like the only way he could truly remember his life in the scramble would be if he joined.
