  1. >You love sleep.
  2. >Or you love the dreams sleep allowed.
  3. >Being blind from birth means you dream in your other senses.
  4. >It was never really a fuss for you, because you were always used to it.
  5. >You used your dreams to relax in a paradise of your own creation.
  6. >Your dreams are a gateway for you.
  7. >Until they are invaded by, what you can only assume to be, a pony whose voice you do not recognise.
  8. >’Hello? Is there anypony out there? We cannot see anything.’
  9. >You float silently closer to the voice.
  10. >It sounded female, and the wing sounds point to pegasus.
  11. ‘No, we cannot.’
  12. >The new voice makes a mousey “eep” sound.
  13. >’Who…Who goes there?’
  14. ‘This is my paradise. I should ask who you are. I don’t recognise your voice, which means I haven’t met you or my memory is shot.’
  15. >’HOW DARE THOU SPEAK IN SUCH A MANNER TO ONE SUCH AS US ?!’
  16. >Her voice just hit eleven and you quickly clutch your hands over your ears by instinct before realising this was your world.
  17. >A single thought passes through your mind and the voice’s heavy breathing was silenced.
  18. ‘Well, that was unpleasant.
  19. >You float in silence for a few seconds before clapping your hands together.
  20. ‘If you are trying to talk, I silenced you. I am going to return your voice, only if you promise not to…yell at me.’
  21. >’No need.’
  22. >You spin to where the voice came from.
  23. >’Thou art nay the only creature who can master the land of slumber.’
  24. ‘Uh…pardon?’
  25. >The voice makes an annoyed quizzical noise.
  26. >‘You aren’t the only one who can control dreams. Better?’
  27. ‘Yes…or maybe. At least you are not yelling at me.’
  28. >’THOU MOC-‘
  29. >More silence.
  30. >’STOP MO-‘
  31. >Even more silence.
  32. ‘Shh…’
  33. >’CREATURE THOU AR-‘
  34. >Crickets begin to chirp and you chuckle.
  35.
  36. >’WE…we ask that thou refrain from silencing us.’
  37. ‘Are you going to stop the yelling?’
  38. >’We will try.’
  39. ‘Thank you. Now, who am I speaking to?’
  40. >’We are Princess Luna of the Night.’
  41. ‘Wait…Luna, as in sister of Celestia?’
  42. >’WE ARE… *ahem* We prefer Princess Luna, but yes, we are Celestia’s younger sister. Which of our subjects art thou?’
  43. ‘I am not one, your highness. I do not know if your sister had informed you, but my name is Anonymous. I am a new diplomat.’
  44. >’Yes, our sister has spoken of you. She said you were known as a human.’
  45. ‘Yes. I am sorry we haven’t met yet. I have mainly spent my time in my room.’
  46. >’We… we are not as sociable as one would think. Many of our subjects are asleep during our time of rule.’
  47. ‘Oh?’
  48. >This was news to you.
  49. >’”oh”? What doth thou mean “oh”?’
  50. ‘I always assumed you and Celestia ruled side by side, your highness.’
  51. >Luna sighed.
  52. >’We do, but at different times. She rules the day, when our subjects are active. We rule the night, when our subjects slumber.’
  53. ‘So you visit their dreams?’ you caringly say.
  54. >’We…we rarely are noticed by ponies. There are certain rules we must abide by.’
  55. >There was more silence before the slight sound of electricity crackling originating from Luna.
  56. >’We…we cannot use magic to illuminate?’
  57. ‘Sorry?’
  58. >’We cannot see, and our magic does not assist us.’
  59. ‘Princess, please don’t take this the wrong way, but is there any way you could speak… commonly?’
  60. >’We… I can.’
  61. ‘Thank you Princess. As for the sight problem, that may be my fault.’
  62.
  63. >’WHAT?!’
  64. ‘Princess, please calm down.’
  65. >’Sorry, it’s just never been so…dark in a long time.’
  66. ‘It’s okay, Luna. This is just a dream. When you wake up, you will have your normal vision.’
  67. >’You speak from experience?’
  68. >You smile, forgetting she can’t see you either.
  69. ‘The reason we can’t see anything, why you can’t use your magic to brighten this world, is because I was born blind.’
  70. >Another awkward silence befell the two of you again, the only sound coming from the ambient music.
  71. >’I…I’m sorry, Anonymous.’
  72. ‘Why? It’s not your fault.’
  73. >’You… are okay with me knowing?’
  74. ‘Of course it’s okay. I am more curious about why Celestia had not told you about this.’
  75. >’As I said, I am not as sociable as I used to be. I haven’t had a proper conversation with my sister in… I don’t know.’
  76. >You silently float over to her voice again, reaching your hand out.
  77. >Something cool wraps around your fingertips and Luna “eeps”.
  78. >’Anon? Is that you?’
  79. ‘Yes princess. I just… I don’t know what. I felt you needed comfort. I hope I am not overstepping my boundaries here.’
  80. >’N-no… I just didn’t know…’
  81. >More cool feeling wrapped around your hand and moved up your arm.
  82. >’Your limbs…they are like a Diamond Dog’s, but…’
  83. ‘Hairless? Yeah, I’ve been told.’
  84. >The cool feeling reached your shoulder quickly and climbed to your face.
  85. >You begin to giggle, and the cool feeling pauses.
  86. >’Anon? Are you okay?’
  87. ‘Ye…yeah. It just tickles. What are y-you doing?’
  88. >’I was using my mane to get a…a feeling of you…’
  89. ‘Wow…you can do that?’
  90. >’Y-yeah…is that okay with you?’
  91. ‘Yeah, it’s fine. That’s how I see as well. Do you mind if I touch your face?’
  92. >’Y-yes, I do.’
  93.
  94. >You were a little surprised, but not very much. Some people, and ponies you guess, don’t like others feeling their face.
  95. ‘Okay, that’s fine.’
  96. >’No, I mean… I don’t know… why do you want to touch my face in the first place?’
  97. ‘It’s so I can make a map of your face, sort of. I can understand that others would not appreciate something touching their face.’
  98. >’No, it’s not that.’
  99. >Her mane stopped again, and began to creep back.
  100. >’This is the land of slumber. What you assume is a physical form is only a thought in this plane.’
  101. ‘Uh…huh.’
  102. >’Would you like a demonstration?’
  103. >Before you can answer her, the cool mane wrapped around your arm tightens and you hear an audible snap.
  104. >You want to scream, but your mind was confused.
  105. ‘No pain?’
  106. >’I told you, I master the land of slumber.’
  107. ‘Oh really?’
  108. >You rip your arm out of her grasp before smacking her across the face, playfully but with some force.
  109. ‘That’s for breaking my arm.’
  110. >’I told you that I have removed pain. That didn’t hurt.’
  111. ‘Yes, I know. I’m not so stupid that I would slap a princess…without a good reason.’
  112. >You leap backwards, landing softly on a cloud of marshmellows.
  113. >’Using the darkness to hide from me, Anonymous?’
  114. ‘Please, call me Anon, your highness. And yes, I am.’
  115. >’And if I can find you?’ came a soft whisper next to your ear.
  116. >You quickly jump, swimming through the sky of music, before landing on what smells like a chocolate chip cookie.
  117. >’I can use the darkness to my advantage too, Anon.’
  118. ‘Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, moulded by it. If darkness is your ally, then it is my bestest friend foreverest.’
  119.
  120. >Luna began to giggle, and you floated off the cookie towards her voice.
  121. >You softly land, your back resting on hers.
  122. ‘So, how does this being a dream prevent me from touching your face?’
  123. >’Your sense of touch would not work like it would when you are awake. Your mental map would be inaccurate.’
  124. ‘Oh, yeah. You have a very good point there.’
  125. >You lie back into her mane before you remember something.
  126. ‘But you said no before I told you why I wanted to touch your face?’
  127. >Luna squeaked again.
  128. >’Well…I thought…’
  129. >She mumbled the final words and tipped you off her back.
  130. >You land with a soft flump, the ground cushioning your drop.
  131. ‘You thought…what?’
  132. >’We thought you were…trying to court us.’
  133. >You sit on the ground in contemplative silence.
  134. >’Anon? Are you okay?’
  135. ‘I…I need to think.’
  136. >’Anon, I’m sorry if I over reacted. It’s just-‘
  137. ‘Princess?’
  138. >’Y-yes?’
  139. ‘Silence.’
  140. >Soft jazz music began to play as you tried to think and you slowly nod your head.
  141.
  142. >As you stand, you hear Luna taking a deep breath.
  143. ‘Princess, I’m sorry if my actions construed those ideas and I am sorry I was so rude just then. I needed time to think about the words I need to say right now. I do not wish for you to take this the wrong way, but…at this point in time, I can’t really see myself falling in love with anyone, pony or otherwise. You are a very nice pony from what I have heard, but I have been here for… three days now. I do hope you understand this.’
  144. >’You…aren’t embarrassed?’
  145. ‘No. Well, maybe. But you seem like a really nice pony, forgiving just like your sister. In all honesty, I am lucky just to land in a world that sort of accepts me.’
  146. >’Sort of?’
  147. ‘Some things take time. There will always be the chance I meet a pony who does not like me, and I accept that.’
  148. >’You are a strange creature Anon.’
  149. ‘But if he disses my blindness, then I’m gunna have to smack a bitch.’
  150. >’Why would you strike a female dog if a pony insulted you? Is that normal where you come from?’
  151. ‘No, we love and care for our four legged friends.’
  152. >’Then why would you say you would smack one?’
  153. >You whistle nonchalantly, feeling your smile growing wilder.
  154. ‘Hey, when do I wake up?’
  155. >’I wouldn’t know.’
  156. ‘The queen of dreams doesn’t know when I am going to wake up.’
  157. >’I’m not the queen of dreams, I am the princess of the moon.’
  158. ‘Moon? But you said “night” just-‘
  159. >You were cut off by the brightness of the morning sun shining through your window, waking you up.
  160. >Groggily, you sit up in the silk sheets, rubbing the eye gunk crust that always built up around your eyes.
  161. ‘God dammit Luna…’ you grumble before feeling around for your glasses and cane.
  162.
  163. >Finding your belongings, you quickly make your way into the adjoining bathroom, beginning your daily ritual.
  164. >As you feel the hot water rush over your body, your muscles become more relaxed.
  165. >You scrub your body from head to toes before hearing a familiar voice ring out from your bedroom.
  166. >’Anon? Are you in here?’
  167. ‘I’m having a shower, Feather. ‘
  168. >’Sorry, I just came to drop off some fresh towels and check what you wanted for breakfast.’
  169. ‘Okay. Wait there a minute and I’ll… OH DEAR GOD!!!’
  170. >’ANON! WHAT’S WRONG?!’
  171. ‘I GOT SOAP IN MY EYES! I CAN’T SEE!!’
  172. >’OH DEAR CELESTIA!! WAIT THERE, I’LL HELP Y...’
  173. >Her voice trailed off as her mind began to work again.
  174. >’I hate you so very much Anon.’
  175. ‘No you don’t.’
  176. >’You’re right.’
  177. >The sound of the bathroom door opening reaches your ears, and soft hoofsteps enter.
  178. >Fear fills your mind.
  179. ‘Feather? What are you doing?’
  180. >There was dead silence. You couldn’t even hear her breathing.
  181. ‘Feather?!’
  182. >You hope the shower curtain that stood between you was not transparent.
  183. >’I can’t really hate you Anon.’ Feather said in a sensual voice very close to the showers edge. ‘Not when I can do this.’
  184. >You wonder what she means when your body suddenly registers freezing cold.
  185.
  186. >You are Feather Duster and you were laughing your flank off.
  187. >Anon loved his little jokes, even if they weren’t funny.
  188. >Most of them revolved around his lack of sight, or making you worry about him.
  189. >Today’s was a combination of the two.
  190. >So you decided to get some revenge for once.
  191. >As you silently sneaked into the bathroom, you could hear the water rushing over his large bipedal body.
  192. >If the shower curtain was only made of clear plastic, you could-
  193. >No, that’s a bad Feather. No perving.
  194. >’Feather? What are you doing?’ Anon called out as you stood silently next to him.
  195. >You had to hold your breath so as you don’t give away your position.
  196. >Your building laughter would have done that for you.
  197. >As you glance behind the curtain, you see your goal.
  198. >The water taps.
  199. >’Feather?!’
  200. >He sounded seriously desperate now, almost fearful.
  201. ‘I can’t really hate you, Anon.’
  202. >You use your most sensual voice imaginable, knowing it would make him even more afraid.
  203. >You grab the hot water valve with your magic.
  204. ‘Not when I can do this.’
  205. >You quickly turn off the hot water, changing the water to near freezing temperatures.
  206. >You begin to laugh, listening for his girlish screams.
  207. >Screams that never came.
  208.
  209. >You are Anonymous and you were now completely awake.
  210. >It seems Feather Duster thought she could mess with you by taking away your hot water.
  211. >Little did she know, you were used to it.
  212. >Being blind made it…difficult to identify what knob was what.
  213. >More often than not, you would take an ice cold shower because you feared the hot water.
  214. >You continue to scrub your body.
  215. ‘Not when you can do what, Feather?’
  216. >All she could do was squeak.
  217. >You reach behind you and turn off the remaining tap.
  218. ‘Can you pass me a towel please?’
  219. >Against your left hand, you feel the soft fabric of the towel.
  220. >You quickly grab it, drying off your body before wrapping it around your waist.
  221. >’I…I’ll just meet you out in your bedroom.’
  222. ‘Sounds like a good idea.’
  223. >You wait until you hear her hoofsteps leave and the sound of the door shutting before opening the shower curtain and stepping out.
  224. >Soon enough you are dressed in the same clothes that you had worn for the fourth day in a row.
  225. >You really need to ask Celestia when your clothes are coming in.
  226. >As you place your hand on the moist door handle, you remind yourself that you need to open a window when enjoying a hot shower.
  227. >You open the door and walk out into your bedroom, hearing Feather humming from the other side of the room.
  228. ‘What are you doing?’
  229. >’I was tidying up your desk when I notice all of your books.’
  230. ‘And you wonder why they are blank?’
  231. >’They’re blank?’
  232. >Her tone was a definite question and you smile.
  233. ‘Sorry. I thought you opened them.’
  234. >’Anon, I don’t pry into other ponies businesses.’
  235. ‘Not a pony, but thanks.’
  236.
  237. >You walk carefully over to the desk, placing a hand on Feather’s head.
  238. ‘Well, the inside of the books look blank.’
  239. >You reach a hand out and open one of the books.
  240. >Feather made a quizzical sound.
  241. ‘But it’s printed in these little bumps called braille which allow me to read.’
  242. >’Wow… Can I ask you something?’
  243. ‘No, I can’t teach you to read it. Seriously, first Shining, now you.’
  244. >’Not what I was going to ask, but nice to know. I was going to ask if you…’
  245. >Feather lowered her head.
  246. >’If you would maybe read to me some time?’
  247. >You smile softly and scratch her head.
  248. ‘I’d love to Feather. How about tonight when your shift ends?’
  249. >’Well…that’s the thing…’
  250. ‘Hmm?’
  251. >’Today is my day off.’
  252. ‘But you said… oh. Oh!’
  253. >You begin to laugh in a maniacal fashion.
  254. ‘OH! I KNEW IT!’
  255. >’WHAT?!’
  256. ‘YOU CAN’T HIDE IT FEATHER! YOU CAN’T HIDE YOUR FRIENDSHIP FROM THE BLIND MAN!’
  257. >’Sh-shut up…’
  258. >You crouch down and give Feather a hug, to which she returns.
  259. ‘Thank you for being my first friend in Equestria, Feather.’
  260. >’Thank you…for just being you.’
  261. >Feather pulled back before pausing, and brought a hoof softly to your face just below your sunglasses.
  262. >’Anon? Are you okay?’
  263. ‘Yeah, why?’
  264. >’You…you look like you were crying.’
  265. ‘Oh? Maybe. Tears of joy, most likely.’
  266. >You take off your sunglasses and give your eyes a good wipe.
  267. >Feather gasps slightly and you remember your eyes.
  268. >Quickly sliding your glasses back on, you stand up.
  269. ‘Sorry about that. Forgot to tell you about them.’
  270. >You grab your cane, unfolding it, before walking towards the door.
  271. ‘Onwards to breakfast, I guess.’ you say in soft tone.
  272.
  273. >As you hit the hallway outside your room, Feather walks up beside you.
  274. >’Anon, I didn’t mean to-‘
  275. ‘Where’s the royal pig-outtery?’ you interrupt.
  276. >’Pardon?’
  277. ‘The hall of hash slinging. Food central. The house of pancakes. Om nom nom castle.’
  278. >’The… dining hall?’
  279. ‘Sure, if you want to use the mainstream name.’
  280. >’It’s…uh…this way.’
  281. >Feather walks to your left and you closely follow as much as you can.
  282. >As you walked along, you could feel the warm sun grace the exposed skin on the right side of your body.
  283. >Feather’s hoofsteps stopped and you stopped next to her.
  284. >’Anon, can we please talk about what just happened?’
  285. ‘There is nothing that needs to be said. I was in the wrong for not telling you sooner about my eyes appearance, but in all fairness, I don’t think about them a lot.’
  286. >’But I’m still sorry I gasped.’
  287. ‘It was nothing, I promise. Some have taken it a lot worse.’
  288. >’Anon, I just want to know. Why do you hide them? Your eyes are such a beautiful shade of-‘
  289. ‘White? Yeah, I’ve been told. I just do it because it makes me feel… safer, I think.’
  290. >’Safer? Like a security blanket?’
  291. ‘No, as in safety against flying debris. I can’t see a dust cloud or something flying towards my eyes. These sunglasses act as another barrier.’
  292. >’Oh… I didn’t think of that.’
  293. ‘It’s okay. You can make it up to me by taking me to the food.’
  294. >’Okay, hold on tight then.’
  295. >Before you can utter a syllable, you felt the warm tingle of magic grace your skin.
  296. >Your body began to float before your butt found a warm seat and your hands found a tidy mane.
  297. >’I’ll give you a ride.’
  298. ‘Giddy up Feather.’
  299. >You softly grasp her mane as you feel her walk, the magic tingle still surrounding you.
  300.
  301. >After a few minutes, you hear heavy doors open and the smell of fresh breakfast foods waft into your nostrils.
  302. >Feather was now breathing heavy, so you decidedly leap off her back.
  303. >From the other end, you hear the echoed conversation of Celestia and who you now recognise as Luna.
  304. >PL ‘He was part of my dream, of course -- but then I was part of his dream, too.’
  305. >PC ‘I believe you, dear sister. Anon is-‘
  306. ‘Right here, your majesties.’
  307. >PC ‘Anon! And who is your guest.’
  308. ‘Princess, you remember Feather Duster. She is my friend.’
  309. >FD ‘G-good morning your highnesses.’
  310. >PC’ Good Morning Feather. Will the two of you be joining us?’
  311. >FD ‘Oh, no… I couldn’t-‘
  312. ‘NONESENSE!’
  313. >You give Feather a creepy smile.
  314. ‘Your turn.’
  315. >You quickly snatch Feather around her midsection.
  316. >’Anon! What are you doing?!’ Feather harshly whispered.
  317. ‘All that matters is what we do for each other.’
  318. >You begin to slowly jog forwards.
  319. ‘Be a darl and be my eyes.’
  320. >You run faster, smiling as you did.
  321. >’Left!’
  322. >You sidestep left, grazing the table as you did.
  323. ‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves, did gyre and gimble in the wabe.’ You began to sing
  324. >’LEFT MORE’
  325. >You move left again, laughing as you did.
  326. ‘All mimsy were the borogoves And the mome raths outgrabe.
  327. >’STOOOOOP!’
  328. >You stop on a dime next to a pair of chuckling voices.
  329. >’Anon…’ Feather growled. ‘You are mad.’
  330. ‘Oh, you can’t help that. I’m mad, you’re mad.’
  331. >’How do you know I’m mad?’
  332. ‘You must be, or you wouldn’t be here. Now where is a free seat?’
  333. >’To your right.’
  334. >You reach out, feeling a wooden engraved chair, and pulled it out.
  335. >As you take a seat on the small chair, you place Feather softly in your lap.
  336.
  337. >PC ‘Anon, you seem to have a pony in your lap.’
  338. ‘She is my royal-food taster.’
  339. >PL ‘You can’t have one of those, Anon. You aren’t royal, and no pony wants to harm you.’
  340. >FD ‘I might…’
  341. ‘No, that’s a royal food taster. Feather tastes royal food for me.’
  342. >PC ‘Would she prefer her own seat?
  343. >You squeeze Feather tight. ‘My pony.’
  344. >Feather began to wriggle and forced her way out of your grasp.
  345. >’If you must insist on keeping me here, at least let me sit in my own seat.’
  346. ‘Oh…alright.’ you smile.
  347. >PC ‘Anonymous.’
  348. >You turn your head towards Celestia as a sign of respect.
  349. >PC ‘Though you have already met, I would like to formally introduce you to my sister, Princess Luna.’
  350. >You stand from the seat, bowing cordially before taking your seat again.’
  351. >PL ‘It is… a pleasure to meet you in the flesh.’
  352. >You smile towards Luna.
  353. ‘Celestia told you not to use sight words around me?’
  354. >You could hear her giggle.
  355. >PL ‘She did. Though We don’t see the point.’
  356. ‘Iris the chance of retina perfectly good day with a joke that is cornea than that, so I will keep a lid on it and ask Celestia to lens me some of her wisdom.’
  357. >PC ‘Anon…just stop.’
  358. >FD ‘I don’t know, your highness. Anon should be crowned vitreous for that combination.’
  359. >Feather titters at her joke and you laugh.
  360. >PC ‘Why must you corrupt my subjects and family with such nonsense?’
  361. ‘A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men.’ You sing.
  362.
  363. >Before Celestia can question your logic, Feather pipes in.
  364. >FD ‘Anon, what do you feel like for breakfast?’
  365. ‘Uh… something relatively healthy.’
  366. >PL ‘Anon, we have many delicious foods here. Pancakes and waffles, cakes and assortments.’
  367. ‘I do not mean to disrespect your cooks, but I feel I need to eat healthier. I just… don’t feel…’
  368. >You shake your head and rub your eyes, remembering not to show them.
  369. ‘I didn’t feel 100%, I guess, when I ate those cakes. It might have been the sugar content or something, but I’m not big on the whole “sweet treat”. A slice of wheat toast with some honey should suffice.’
  370. >FD ‘I’ll go fetch it for you.’
  371. ‘No, you don’t need to do that. It’s your day off.’
  372. >Feather didn’t stop to chat, climbing off her chair and walking away.
  373. >You slump back in your chair with a sad look on your face.
  374. >PC ’Anon? Is something the matter?’
  375. ‘I get that every…pony? Yeah, everypony has their place in this town, but from the small chat that I have had with Feather, she doesn’t feel appreciated because her job is so seemingly insignificant. But then she goes out of her way to do things for me, and…it makes me feel bad.’
  376. >PC ‘Well, do you treat her differently than other ponies would?’
  377. ‘I don’t know. The only interactions I have observed is between Feather and Shining Armour, and he was a dick.’
  378. >PC ‘Hmm… I would think it best if I talk to him about that.’
  379. ‘No need. I asked him to lighten up a bit, being a captain and all, and he said he would try.’
  380. >PC ‘Well, I would think she goes out of her way to do things for you, not because you ask her to or foal you, but because she is your friend and friends help friends.’
  381.
  382. >A loud yawn rang out through the dining hall, and you turned in Luna’s direction.
  383. ‘Art thou bored?’
  384. >PL ‘Nay…we are tired. What you felt as much time in the dream land was a split second of sleep. I have been up all night ruling, so I should go to bed.’
  385. ‘Of course, Luna. Have a good sleep.’
  386. >There was light hoofsteps that faded away towards the hall doors.
  387. >PC ‘It’s nice to see Luna so happy again.’
  388. ‘She’s happy? When was she ever unhappy?’
  389. >Celestia sighed.
  390. >’It was a long time ago, and even after her return, she was still saddened.’
  391. ‘I… I’m sorry that you had to see your sister sad. And if I am the one who made her happy in any way, I am glad I did so. She has a… unique sense of humour.’
  392. >’Like some human I know.’
  393. ‘You have another human here? Is it a female? Is she cute?’
  394. >Celestia chuckled before letting out a soft sigh.
  395. >’I’m sorry, but I need to be on my way. I have a kingdom to rule. Feel free to stay here if you like.’
  396. ‘Thank you for your kindness, but I believe Feather and I might retire to a quiet place and read a book.’
  397. >’She offered to read you a book?’
  398. ‘Other way around.’
  399. >’Hmmm… We will discuss this at another point in time. It’s time to be royal.’
  400. ‘Excuse my language, but I dare say you should royal the fuck out of those subjects.’
  401. >Celestia chuckled again.
  402. ‘Good day, your highness.’
  403. >You stand from your seat and bow.
  404. >’Good day to you to, Mister Anon. Give my regards to Lady Duster.’
  405. ‘Oh yes, I shall.’
  406. >With the crackle of magic, Celestia teleported herself away.
  407.
  408. >You sit there in silence for a few minutes before hearing the distinct hoofsteps of Feather return from the kitchen.
  409. >She walks up to you before stopping.
  410. >’Anon?’ She said in an annoyed tone.
  411. ‘Yes, Feather?’
  412. >’What could you have possibly said to make both princesses leave?’
  413. >You form a smile inside your mind, but keep a straight face on the outside.
  414. ‘Well…’ you whisper.
  415. >You place a hand on the back of Feather’s neck softly and you hear her softly squeak.
  416. ‘…I asked the princesses to…’
  417. >You slowly trail your fingertips up her mane.
  418. ‘Allow us some time together.’
  419. >Feather couldn’t move, nor speak. She merely began to breathe heavy and made the odd squeak sound.
  420. >You stop at her ear, slowly and softly rubbing them.
  421. ‘Just you…’
  422. >You lean in close.
  423. ‘…and me.’
  424. >’Anon!’ Feather said in a high pitch voice.
  425. >You were about to stop and burst into laughter when you heard her breathing.
  426. >She was breathing very fast, but not as heavy.
  427. >’Anon… I… I can’t. We can’t do this.’
  428. >You stop your movement.
  429. >’A-as much as I thought I wanted somepony like you, and as handsome as you are… Your friendship means so much more to me. Y-you make me laugh, and you make me love you. You definitely make me angry. But I don’t think that I could go a day without knowing I could talk to you, and if we became… special someponies, something might change. You might change.’
  430. >Her voice dropped to barely a whisper.
  431. >‘I might change. I love you, Anon, but I love our friendship more.’
  432. >You drop your hand, feeling immense guilt wash over you.
  433.
  434. >Your mind was telling you many things at once.
  435. >Logic was fighting emotion for the proper reaction to make at this point in time.
  436. >All you could do was sit there in silence.
  437. >’Anon? Are…are you alright?’
  438. ‘Yes,’ you whisper ‘yes, I am fine.’
  439. >You stand from the table, retrieving your cane from your pocket.
  440. ‘I think it best if we don’t spend today together. I need some time alone.’
  441. >You begin to walk away, only to be stopped by a barrier.
  442. >You place a hand on it, feeling its surface.
  443. >It was warm, smooth and but vibrated like it had a current running through it.
  444. >’Anon?’
  445. ‘Feather, this isn’t your fault. You have done nothing wrong here. I am angry at myself and I don’t want you caught in the cross-fire.’
  446. >You try to push past the wall.
  447. ‘Please, drop the barrier.’
  448. >Your hand felt no resistance so you continue to walk.
  449. >Behind you, the soft sobs of a broken heart could be heard.
  450. >You reach the heavy door with no issues, and with a heaving shove, it opens.
  451. >’T-two lefts and a right. First door on the right.’
  452. ‘Thanks…’ you mutter.
  453. >You turn left down the silent corridors, unfolding your cane and begin your slow trail back to your room.
  454.
  455. >It takes you a good amount of time to find the familiar door handle of your quarters.
  456. >As you press your hand to the door, a familiar warm voice calls out to you.
  457. >’Anon, are you finished breakfast already?’
  458. >You don’t bother looking at Celestia, choosing to rest your head on the door.
  459. ‘Yeah, all done…’
  460. >’Anon, what’s the matter?’
  461. ‘Nothing. Going to my room to read.’
  462. >You push your door open and walk in, only for Celestia to walk in behind you.
  463. >’Where’s Feather Duster?’
  464. ‘She is probably enjoying her day off. She doesn’t need to wait hoof and hoof on me 24/7.’
  465. >’Are you sure everything is fine?’
  466. >You spin with a smile.
  467. ‘Positive. I do believe you have a palace to run, so I bid you adieu.’
  468. >’O…kay Anon. I’ll talk to you later.’
  469. >Celestia walked out of your room, and the door clicked shut.
  470. >You turn and walk over to your desk slowly.
  471. >Sitting down on the hard wooden chair, you remove your sunglasses and rub your tired eyes.
  472. ‘Off with his head…’ you mutter as your face falls to the desk.
