  4. >Your eyelids slowly flutter open
  5. >You are Fluttershy
  6. >And you're dead
  7. >Right?
  8. >The growling in your stomach and the pain in your arm disagree
  9. >Pain?
  10. >A cursory scan finds an IV needle in your arm
  11. >You eye the room groggily, confused
  12. >The decor would suggest Ponyville Hospital
  13. B-but how....
  14. >You thought you'd done it
  15. >You were sure you were finally done being hurt and neglected
  16. >But no
  17. >You failed
  18. >You failed at ending your OWN LIFE
  19. That's like failing at failing.....
  20. >You say softly, tears falling and staining your paper gown
  21. >You're content to wallow in your own self-pity, but it appears you have company
  22. >A female unicorn in a candy-striped uniform pokes her head in the door
  23. >'Good morning, Sleepyhead? How are you feeling?'
  24.
  25. >I feel like my life sunk into a pit of despair so deep the only way out was to kill myself only to find that I couldn't even do THAT right
  26. I feel okay
  27. >Damn this Kindness to Hell and back again
  28. C-can you tell me how I got here?
  29. >She comes over and checks your IV drip
  30. >'Oh, it seems you took a few too many sleeping pills and fell asleep in the tub'
  31. >'You should be careful in the future, you could have really hurt yourself'
  32. >Seriously?
  33. >I ate that ENTIRE BOTTLE of pills
  34. >No one can be this dense
  35. Oh, no!
  36. >The nurse smiles and says:
  37. >'It was a good thing that Mr. Anon stopped by when he did, otherwise you wouldn't be here today'
  38. Anon?
  39. >Your head is swimming; Why would Anon show up at your house?
  40. >He generally wasn't the kind to stop by unexpectedly...
  41. >This doesn't make sense
  42. >'....Miss Fluttershy?'
  43. >You snap back to reality and the nurse is looking at you, confused
  44.
  45. I'm sorry, I was miles away. What was that?
  46. >'I said the front office said you had a guest, she's on her way.'
  47. >'Also, you seem to be doing well, so I'm going to go tend some other ponies.'
  48. >She turns to leave, but pauses and turns to you when she reaches the door
  49. >'It's good to see that you're better now, Miss Fluttershy. You gave us quite the scare'
  50. It's good to be here
  51. >As you say it, you believe it to be a lie
  52. >But when you look around at all the color coming in from outside
  53. >At what a beautiful day it is today
  54. >You're reminded of a day, months ago, that was honestly one of the best days of your life
  55. >It started out terribly, with Anon easily beating you at a game that you were too stupid to understand the rules to
  56. >Everything was at stake, and as soon as it began you immediately broke a handful of rules
  57. >Depressed (but not surprised) at your failure, you started walking home
  58. >He stopped you, and asked if you wanted to spend the day with him
  59. >You were so excited, he NEVER wanted to hang out
  60. >(Well, not since he kissed you....)
  61. >And the day just got better from there
  62.
  63. >You walked around town together, visiting your friends and exploring the land
  64. >A lot of the things scared you, but Anon seemed to understand it, and told you that nothing would hurt you
  65. >You believed him
  66. >You knew he'd keep you safe
  67. >And then, at the end of the day, he walked you home
  68. >And, oh joy of joys, he surprised you with a hug
  69. >You were so happy right then, you savored every second
  70. >But you got greedy, and grabbed his butt
  71. >He jumped off of you like you were on fire, and left soon after
  72. >As soon as you closed the door, you started hitting your head with your hooves, cursing yourself
  73. >If you hadn't fondled him, the hug would have lasted longer, and he might have stayed
  74. >But, despite that, you were the happiest you'd been in a while
  75. >And, looking back on the memory, you begin to feel hopeful
  76. >The good things in life sometimes make the bad worthwhile
  77. >And besides, you even have a guest!
  78. >Someone cared enough to visit!
  79. >Deciding to postpone another suicide attempt, you eagerly await your guest
  80. >That eager anticipation turns to a sour bitterness when you see:
  81. Oh, hey Twilight
  82.
  83. >The purple mare sheepishly smiles, her horn glowing purple as she levitates a 'get well soon' card over to your nightstand
  84. What brings you here this fine day...
  85. >You stare unblinking at her, hoping she'll get the hint that you don't really want to see her
  86. Friend?
  87. >You spit the word out like it's poisonous
  88. >She winces
  89. >'I deserve that'
  90. >Slightly unexpected, but okay
  91. >'I've been a terrible friend to you, and I'm glad you're awake now.'
  92. >'Fluttershy, I'm so sorry about the other day.'
  93. Oh what, the whole thing with Anon? It's fine, I'm over it.
  94. >'No Fluttershy. It's not okay.'
  95. >She's visibly shaking, trying to hold back tears
  96. >'Rainbow... told us some things right before we found you'
  97. >A rock settles in your stomach
  98. Wh..what did she tell you?
  99. >Pleasenononono..
  100. >'She told us everything, Fluttershy. Your parents, Sunburst, everything'
  101.
  102. >'I'm so sorry. We didn't know.'
  103. >Your breaths quicken, and you avert Twilight's gaze
  104. >So she knows
  105. >Everyp0ny with the exception of one treated you like a victim when they found out
  106. >You didn't want to be a victim, you just wanted to be like everyp0ny else...
  107. >You don't need her pity
  108. Twilight, I think it's best if you leave
  109. >She nods, and says:
  110. >'I understand if you don't want to see me, there's something I have to tell you....'
  111. >'Anon and I... aren't together.'
  112. >You feel a pang in your heart
  113. >Did you cause this?
  114. >As much as it hurt you, you really wanted to see Anon happy
  115. >And you never wanted Anon to be unhappy because of you...
  116. I-I'm so sorry, Twilight. When did....
  117. >You can't finish your sentence, because Twilight interrupts you
  118.
  119. >'No, I mean we were never together. Anon thought that if you thought he had a marefriend you would stop...'
  120. >She looks like she's searching for a word
  121. >'advancing on him'
  122. >'I just went along for the ride'
  123. >Your mind is racing
  124. >He didn't love Twilight?
  125. >He just wanted you to stop?
  126. >He could have just asked.....
  127. >You remember several times when he, at first politely, but getting more forceful near the end, asked you to stop
  128. >You visibly cringe
  129. So... this is my fault...
  130. >Twilight looks shocked
  131. >'N-no! It's nop0ny's fault! It all just kind of...'
  132. >You interrupt her
  133. No, Twilight, it's okay. I know why he did it.
  134. I know I was overreacting... but...
  135. >Your throat begins to close as you tear up
  136. I... I thought he loved me.... and I wanted him to love me....
  137. >You break down into quiet tears, and Twilight comes over and puts her arms around you
  138.
  139. >You weep in Twilight's arms for close to an hour, remembering everything you put Anon through
  140. >Although what he did was the cruelest thing anyone had ever done to you, you still felt terrible
  141. >After all, he wouldn't have done it if you hadn't pushed him to it
  142. >But, huddled against someone who, just a few hours prior, you had written off as a whore and a backstabber, you have a realization
  143. >As cliche' as it sounds, you realize that you can't run from your past
  144. >Hiding a problem, or ignoring it completely, is the fastest way to repeat it
  145. >The only way to move on and heal is to accept your past, flaws and all, and use it to shape your future
  146. >To learn from your mistakes, so as not to make them again
  147. >And as you calm down, you start to feel... good?
  148. >This dread certainty should fill you with fear and anxiety
  149. >After all, any stallion that you try and get close to is going to have to deal with this emotional void, and many won't be up to the challenge
  150. >Instead, it makes you almost hopeful
  151. >Because, there probably will be crying yourself to sleep
  152. >There probably will be nights spent awake wishing someone would hold you
  153. >But, there's a way that you can make sure that there aren't any more
  154.
  155. Twilight...
  156. >She breaks the embrace to look at you
  157. I'm sorry if you worried yourself on my account
  158. Looking back on it, I can see how I'm responsible for most of this mess
  159. And, now that Anon knows why I was doing what I was doing...
  160. >You feel a pang of regret upon the thought of Anon
  161. ... I hope he can understand. At least enough to forgive me
  162. >Twilight smiles, and says 'I'm sure he will.'
  163. I hope so.
  164. >You ring the buzzer for the nurse
  165. >The same candy-striped unicorn pokes her head in
  166. >'Is everything all right?'
  167. It is, thank you. I was just wondering when I might be able to leave
  168. I'm feeling much better, and have some things I need to take care of
  169.
  170. -----------------------------------
  171.
  172. >Upon release from the hospital, with the heartfelt promise that you'd be more careful in the future, you and Twilight leave
  173. >You feel fine, but Twilight insists on walking you home
  174. >It's okay, you enjoy having company, especially on a beautiful day like today
  175. >As you walk through town and experience all the vibrant colors, delicious smells, and friendly smiles of your neighbors you can't help but smile
  176. Life is beautiful, Twilight
  177. >Without turning to look at you, she smiles
  178. >'It's good to have you back, Fluttershy'
  179. >Well, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Anon, you think
  180. >Speaking of Anon...
  181. >You and Twilight see him standing across the street
  182. >But he seems to have noticed you first
  183.
  184. >He's paler than normal, all the color seemed to drain out of him
  185. >He's glaring daggers into you with a scowl on his face
  186. >His hands are balled into tight fists, and he's rigid with rage
  187. >When he sees you notice him, he seems to break out of his trance, walking stiff-legged and jerkily back toward his house
  188. >The bottom falls out of your stomach
  189. H..he hates me...
  190. >'I'm sure he doesn't hate you, it's probably just a human thing'
  191. I don't know, Twilight. He looked so ANGRY...
  192. >You need to talk to him; to apologize
  193. >First you're going to let Twilight finish walking you home, though
  194. >Oh, no
  195. >Home
  196.
  197. >You remember the broken window, the water in the tub...
  198. >The mattress stained with piss...
  199. OH! Hey, Twilight, I'm pretty sure I can take it from here, you can go home now, bye!
  200. >She looks at you, puzzled
  201. >'No, it's okay, I don't mind'
  202. >'And besides, we're almost there'
  203. >She continues to walk, and you notice you're one small hill away from seeing your house
  204. >OhNo
  205. >Well, she'll probably just drop me off and go home
  206. >That won't be so bad
  207. >'Hey Fluttershy, I need to use your restroom when we get there, I just realized how much I have to pee'
  208. >SonOfABitch
  209. Uhm.. okay...
  210. >#Kindness
  211. >You cringe as you both crest the hill overlooking your house
  212. >But when you look, it seems.... perfectly normal?
  213. >The window's not broken
  214. >There appears to be a new door
  215. >And a new lock
  216. >You panic, you don't have a key
  217. >But Twilight lifts up the welcome mat, pulls out a key, unlocks the door, and hands it to you
  218. >'I hope you don't mind, but a few of us fixed up your house after Anon destroyed it'
  219. >She smiles
  220.
  221. >Anon... destroyed your house?
  222. >Running inside, you notice everything has been cleaned and put back where it should be, the vase of flowers included
  223. >Flying upstairs, you notice a lack of garbage, a new mattress, the carpet's been cleaned, and there's new wallpaper in the bathroom
  224. >You fly back downstairs and Twilight is levitating a towel, washing her hooves
  225. I.. I don't understand... Why did Anon destroy my house?
  226. >She smiles, and then begins to tell you of how Angel warned them about you possibly hurting yourself
  227. >How Anon, without a second thought, took off toward your house
  228. >How he tore your door to pieces trying to get inside
  229. >And how, once inside, he stressed himself to the point of collapse to make sure you were okay
  230. >But.. he hates you, right?
  231. >That was definitely anger on his face...
  232. >You thank Twilight for escorting you home, and you hug before she leaves
  233. >As soon as she's out of sight, you fly as fast as you can to Anon's house
  234. >You need to find out what's going on
  235. >You arrive, and knock on the door
  236. >No answer
  237. >....
  238. Anon? Are you home?
  239. *knock knock knock*
  240. >.....
  241. >'......go away, Fluttershy.'
  242.
  243. >You wince
  244. >He really does hate you
  245. N.. not before I say something
  246. >You swallow your nerves, and announce:
  247. I.. I'm sorry, Anon
  248. I didn't know I was making you feel so uncomfortable
  249. Twilight told me Rainbow Dash told you about my past, so I hope you can understand why I'd be so desparate for your affection...
  250. >Silence from the other side of the door
  251. I..it's okay. I understand if you hate me...
  252. I'll leave you alone now....
  253. >You really thought he'd at least listen to you
  254. >You've said your piece, though, and that's all you can do
  255. >You turn around, sighing, and begin to slowly flap your way back to your house
  256. >Just as you're airborne, however, the door explodes and something large and heavy rushes out and hits you in the chest
  257. -------------------------------------------------------------
  258.
  259.
  260. >You are Anon
  261. >And the days since Fluttershy attempted suicide have been the most thorough and complete mental torture anything could visit upon you
  262. >Everything reminds you of that day
  263. >Fixing her house, more specifically being in a house reminding you so strongly of Fluttershy, burned your heart like a hot knife
  264. >But you forced yourself to do it
  265. >You went out of your way to not correct p0nies when they thanked you and called you a hero
  266. >You forced yourself to go visit Fluttershy every day
  267. >All specifically to make sure your heart was torn out as often as it could be
  268. >You deserve it
  269. >You deserve ALL of it
  270. >The kind words that drag across your psyche like razor blades
  271. >The image of Fluttershy in a hospital bed will forever be scarred into your memory
  272. >The sound of the sink running sent you into a full-blown P.T.S.D flashback of Fluttershy floating in the tub
  273. >You shiver
  274. >Never forget
  275. >Never repeat
  276. >You woke up this morning with things you needed to do
  277.
  278. >Fluttershy was due to wake up in the next few days, and you wanted to horde food so you didn't have to leave the house for a few days
  279. >You didn't want to be out and about and accidentally run into her, lest you dredge up any bad feelings and have her try and kill herself again
  280. That's bullshit and you know it
  281. >Fine, fuck you
  282. >You don't want to see Fluttershy because, as much as you deserve it, it's going to hurt a lot worse than it already does
  283. >You're going to leave her be for a few days, and then leave a note on her door explaining that you're going to go out of your way to avoid her
  284. >It's the coward's way out and you know it, but at least you won't hurt her anymore
  285. >She doesn't deserve it
  286. >All she wanted was for you to love and accept her....
  287. >WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN SO HARD, YOU ASSHOLE?
  288. >You wince
  289. >Probably not, but it's too late now
  290. >You leave the house to commence your shopping
  291. >And are blindsided by the sight of a yellow and pink pegasus across the street from you
  292. >She's up already?
  293.
  294. >Oh God this hurts
  295. >Every scrap of rage, guilt, shame, depression, and self-loathing collects in your soul
  296. >And you unleash it all upon yourself
  297. >You go pale, and all the air is sucked out of your lungs
  298. >Your hands hurt from how hard you're balling your fists
  299. >You can feel yourself rattling apart
  300. >Just being in her presence is rending your soul to bits
  301. >And you force yourself to endure it
  302. >Because you deserve it
  303. >The only thing that snaps you out of this self-destructive spiral is the fact that you notice Fluttershy staring at you
  304. >She looks distraught, wide-eyed and mouth agape at the sight of you
  305. >OH GOD MY HEART
  306. >Just as you thought, just seeing you reminds her of everything
  307. >MUST FLEE
  308.
  309. >Stiff-legged, you stutterstep your way back to your house, close the door, and collapse next to it, shaking
  310. >You decide that the floor is a good place to lay, and try to relax a bit
  311. >As long as you stay in the house, she doesn't have to see you
  312. >You sigh in relief, and enjoy the feeling of the cold wood on your bare face and arms
  313. *knock knock knock*
  314. >Who could that be?
  315. >Whatever, if it's important they'll come back
  316. >You continue to lay prone
  317. >Silence
  318. >'Anon? Are you home?'
  319. >You feel your blood run cold, and she knocks again
  320. >Why is she here?
  321. >Why would she seek you out after you hurt her so badly?
  322. >Nothing good can come from this
  323. ......go away, Fluttershy
  324. >The words pain you to say
  325.
  326. >'N.. not before I say something'
  327. >'I.. I'm sorry, Anon'
  328. >Wait, WHAT
  329. >'I didn't know I was making you feel so uncomfortable'
  330. >'Twilight told me Rainbow Dash told you about my past, so I hope you can understand why I'd be so desparate for your affection...'
  331. >So let me get this straight, you drove her to suicide and SHE'S apologizing to YOU?
  332. >This is too much
  333. >You're in so much emotional pain it feels like you're going to cry your soul out your eyes
  334. >You can't speak; you can barely breathe
  335. >'I..it's okay. I understand if you hate me...'
  336. >I DON'T HATE YOU
  337. >'I'll leave you alone now....'
  338. >PLEASE DON'T
  339. >You tear open the door and launch yourself at her, tackling her out of the air
  340.
  341. >You put her in the tightest hug you can manage, and start sobbing, loudly and without shame, into her mane
  342. I-I'M SO S-S-S-SORRY, FLUTTERSHY!
  343. >You can barely speak through your tears
  344. I.. I never wanted.... wanted you to hurt yourself...
  345. >Your breath is coming in ragged gasps, and you're too emotionally destroyed to think of what to say
  346. >So you begin vomiting pieces of feelings everywhere
  347. I.. I didn't know... And then I talked to Twilight... and then I didn't see you for a few days and I thought it worked...
  348. >You're vaguely aware you're going too fast to make sense, but you don't care
  349. ...And then Rainbow yelled at us... and then Angel found me... had to protect you...
  350. ...pulled you from the water... thought you were.... you were so c-c-cold....
  351. >You hug her even tighter and start sobbing harder, your tears matting down her fine, pink hair
  352. I WAS SO S-S-SCARED I LOST YOU, FLUTTERSHY!
  353. >You degenerate into a wailing, shaking mess, clutching Fluttershy like a drowning person clutches a life preserver
  354. >Through your sobs, you can hear her... singing?
  355. >'Hush now, quiet now, it's time to lay your sleepy head...'
  356. >She's singing to you, and softly caressing the back of your head as you bury your face in her neck
  357. >You slowly start to calm down, relaxing while listening to her serenade you
  358.
  359. >Finally, you're composed enough to be breathing reasonably normally
  360. >You're still shaking slightly, but you're not hysterical
  361. >She pulls away from you to ask:
  362. >'There. Isn't that better?'
  363. Yes, Fluttershy. Thank you
  364. >you say, wiping the last vestiges of tears from your eyes
  365. >'I'm sorry for everything I put you through, Anon.'
  366. Don't you apologize to me. If anything, I should be begging YOUR forgivness.
  367. I was wrong to do that to you. Please forgive me.
  368. >She pulls you in for a hug
  369. >'I forgive you'
  370. >You both sit there for a while, enjoying the embrace
  371. >'I guess we both messed this up, didn't we?'
  372. It seems so
  373. Don't you ever scare me like that again, Fluttershy
  374. I don't know what I would do without you
  375.
  376. >Woah, woah, what?
  377. >Did you just say that?
  378. >Fluttershy seems to be thinking the same thing, breaking the embrace and looking into your eyes
  379. >'D-do you really mean that?'
  380. >You think for a second
  381. >And it hits you, all at once
  382. >You DON'T know what you would do without her
  383. >You can't imagine living without her
  384. >That's why you fought so hard to save her life
  385. >It's why you rejected her attempts to guess your fetish so many times; she wasn't acting like herself and it scared you
  386. >That's why you'd thought it was strange to think of her as a 'friend' anymore
  387. >She's much more than that now
  388. >Finally, you answer her
  389. >You put your arms around her and rest your forehead on hers
  390. Yes, Fluttershy. I do.
  391. >Her eyes go wide, and she starts shaking
  392. >And slowly, tentatively, she goes in for a kiss
  393. >And for the first time, you don't stop her
  394. ----------------------------------------------
  395.
  396. >The next few weeks progressed in much the same way that the past few months had
  397. >Morning routine:
  398. >Shit, shower, shave
  399. >Go downstairs
  400. >Hear a knock at the door
  401. >Open it to find Fluttershy standing there
  402. >And that's about where the similarities end
  403. >You give her a kiss, let her inside, and usually she makes breakfast for the two of you
  404. >You never really asked for this to happen, but you were spending all your time together
  405. >Well, most of your time
  406.
  407. >You both insisted on living in separate houses, more for practicality than anything else
  408. >She couldn't move all the animals to your house and, despite your temporary truce, you and Angel still couldn't stand each other
  409. >You could always live with her, but truth be told you couldn't go near that upstairs bathroom
  410. >Too many memories scarred into your brain
  411. >Despite that, though, you still managed to do what most other couples do
  412. >Helping her care for the animals
  413. >Going grocery shopping
  414. >Sharing a blanket while watching a movie
  415. >Strangely enough, though, not as much sex as you'd figure
  416. >After everything that happened, you told her you wanted to take it slowly
  417. >Fluttershy agreed, and confided in you that she really wanted her first time to be special
  418. >The only reason she was pushing the fetishes on you is because she thought it was the only way to make you like her
  419. >Fine by you; honestly, you could wait
  420. >You were happy
  421.
  422. >You still chuckle when you think about it:
  423. >If you would have told yourself three years ago that you'd be dating a candy horse
  424. >Sorry, pony
  425. >Dating a candy 'pony', and honestly be happy with it, you wouldn't have believed yourself
  426. >Wait, three years?
  427. >You tick back your memories, and.... yeah
  428. >You've been in Equestria for almost three years
  429. >Pinkie will probably be happy to hear of this; she's always in the mood for a party
  430. >The rest of the day progresses as normal; helping Fluttershy with her animals, various errands, etc
  431. >But after dinner, while you're cuddling under a blanket, her hoof works it's way down and starts rubbing your thigh
  432. >She gives you her best sultry look and asks:
  433. >'Uhm, is it okay if I spend the night here tonight?'
  434. >You grin, pick her up, throw her over your shoulder and march up the stairs
  435. >'I take it that's a 'yes'?'
  436. ---------------------------------
  437.
  438. >Several hours later....
  439. >You swing your legs off the bed and slide off, making your way to the bathroom
  440. >One thourough weasel-draining later, you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror
  441. I didn't know hooves could even LEAVE scratch marks
  442. >You chuckle and make your way back to the bed, where the contented pile of putty formerly known as Fluttershy is happily dozing
  443. >You cuddle up behind her, and she lets out a quiet moan of pleasure
  444. >As you enjoy the warmth of her body against your bare chest, you realize something
  445. Hey, Fluttershy
  446. >She slowly flips around so that she's facing you
  447. >'Yes, honey?'
  448. I love you
  449. >'I know' She smiles
  450. I just realized that I've never actually said it to you
  451. But I do.
  452. I love you, Fluttershy.
  453. >She cuddles up closer to you, and kisses you on the forehead
  454. >'I know. I always knew you did, even if you didn't want to admit it'
  455. >'I love you too, Anon.'
  456. >You continue to hold each other and, slowly but surely, sleep takes you both
  457. --------------------------------------
  458.
  459. >You groggily wake up the next morning
  460. >Fuck, it's cold
  461. >And this bed is uncomfortable
  462. >And what the fuck is that smell?
  463. >It smells like..
  464. >Your eyes shoot open
  465. Car exhaust
  466. >You feel for the bedside lamp, but it's not there
  467. >And as your eyes adjust to the gray light filtering in from outside, a pit forms in your stomach as you realize you're not at your house anymore
  468. >Scratch that
  469. >You ARE in your house
  470. >But not your house in Equestria
  471. >Temporarily stunned, you make your way to the balcony
  472. >You open the sliding glass door, and stumble outside to find
  473.
  474. >The Seattle skyline, Space Needle and all
  475. >Fighting vertigo, you look down the twelve stories to the ground
  476. >There are people milling about their daily lives
  477. >As suddenly and as inexplicably as you were teleported to Equestria, you have been teleported back to your apartment back on Earth
  478. >Numb, you stumble back inside and fish your cell phone out of a dirty pair of pants thrown on a chair
  479. >It tells you the date, but that doesn't help you find out how long you've been gone
  480. >You forgot when you left
  481. >A check of the recent messages finds the last sent message to have been sent about a day and a half ago
  482. >Only a day?
  483. >You count off the hours, it's been about thirty-six
  484. >About as many months as you've been in Equestria....
  485. >Fucking time distortion, you'll never understand it
  486. >Just as that's sinking in, you get a realization
  487. >If the time distortion is that bad, you've been missing in Equestria a lot longer than just this morning
  488. >You've been gone at least a week, maybe two, maybe a month; you don't know
  489.
  490. >Fluttershy's probably worried sick....
  491. >The last time she couldn't be with you she tried to...
  492. >NOOPE
  493. >Not even thinking about that
  494. >She's stronger than that now
  495. >You hope...
  496. *grrrrrrrrwl*
  497. >oh look at that, a convenient distraction!
  498. >First things first, you need food
  499. >You know there's nothing in the cupboards, and a search of the fridge turns up basically an old carton of milk and a box of Arm & Hammer
  500. >Forcing yourself away from thoughts of Equestria, you grab your pants and wallet, and take the elevator down in search of food
  501.
  502. >It's a bit of a walk to Downtown, but you're used to walking everywhere
  503. >You wander through the maze of steel and glass monoliths, vaguely remembering pathways once well known
  504. >You have a destination in mind
  505. >And after about half an hour, you see it
  506. >The large clock and neon sign reading 'Public Market Center'
  507. >You hook a right and duck into a small building labelled 'Falafel King'
  508. >They're just opening, so you wait a few minutes, stomach audibly growling
  509. >The skinny middle eastern guy behind the counter smiles at you; you used to be a regular here
  510. >You still are, apparantly; you've only been gone two days
  511. >You affix a smile and order your food, he hands it to you and you sit at one of the tables outside
  512. >The large television screen across the street advertises the sex toy shop/strip club within
  513. >Jingle Balls
  514. >Tis the Squeezin'
  515. >You chuckle; apparantly some things just don't change
  516.
  517. >Absentmindedly, you begin digging into your food
  518. >You don't wholly object to it
  519. >It's spicy and savory, but there's this weird taste to it now
  520. >Oh
  521. >After three years of being a vegitarian, meat hasn't been recognized as a food for a while
  522. >And you seem to remember lamb being kind of gamey to begin with
  523. >You choke it down, wishing you were digging into a cinnamon roll back at Sugarcube Corner with all of your friends....
  524. >Your friends....
  525. >You swallow hard to keep from tearing up at the thought of them
  526. >Especially Fluttershy....
  527. >It hasn't even been three hours since you've woken up and already your heart aches for her
  528. >You glumly stand up and dispose of your refuse, walking out of the small fence
  529. >Man, it's gray out today
  530. >You don't remember EVER seeing a day this gray in Equestria...
  531. >You sigh
  532. >A bottle or three of something strong seems to be in order when you get back to your hovel
  533.
  534. >While you're in the area, though...
  535. >You might as well check out the comic book shop underneath the market proper
  536. >You make your way down the stairs, past the restroom with the weird half-doors
  537. >Past the antique shop with the beetles and bats entombed accusingly in resin
  538. >Down another set of stairs and hooking a sharp left, down a ramp and past the guy doing caricatures
  539. >Ah, there it is
  540. >You navigate a gauntlet of cardboard cutouts and enter the comic shop
  541. >The staff greets you, more out of professionalism than anything else
  542. >You enjoy coming here, but don't that often
  543. >You smile a bit, remembering all the interesting collectibles you forgot they had here
  544. >A life sized bust of a Xenomorph from Aliens
  545. >An inflatable Wolverine hanging from string from the ceiling
  546. >A glass case full of Sonic Screwdrivers and various colored Lantern Rings
  547. >And on the case....
  548. >What the actual fuck
  549.
  550. >You visibly start trembling and have to hold back tears
  551. >You walk over and pick up one of the figurines being advertised, an almost spitting image of Pinkie Pie
  552. >It may have a horn and wings, but the coloring and hair are a dead ringer
  553. >You're suddenly hit with the gravity of your whole situation
  554. >You've been transported back to your mediocre life, away from everything you've called home for the past three years
  555. >You're unlikely to ever get to see your friends and the love of your life ever again
  556. >Fuck, not in public
  557. >You set the figurine down, and bolt out of the store
  558. >Straight
  559. >Left
  560. >Right
  561. >There, the door to the outside landing
  562. >You launch yourself through it, and collapse against the railing while you sob into your arms
  563. >You miss them all so much
  564. >Especially Fluttershy
  565. >Her absence is like a hole in your heart
  566. >You continue to bawl, until you're interrupted by a voice:
  567. >'Hey, mate. You okay?'
  568.
  569. >You look up with bloodshot eyes to see two figures standing above you with concerned looks on their faces
  570. >They're both taller than you, but not by much, maybe a few inches
  571. >The shorter of the two is thin and wiry, wearing a zipped-up patched leather jacket and a newsboy cap
  572. >He's bending over with his hands on his knees, leaning his stubbly face closer to you
  573. >The other, a veritable bear of a man, is standing behind his friend, kilt ruffling in the breeze
  574. >He has his arms folded in front of him, his head cocked slightly as he assesses you
  575. >You feel a twinge of irritation
  576. >Who's he to judge you, anyway?
  577. >He's wearing a man-skirt, for God's sake
  578. Yeah, I"m fine
  579. >'You don't look fine, bro. We saw you take off from the comic book shop like you were being chased.'
  580. >Jesus, were you that obvious?
  581. I... uh, saw something that reminded me of someone....
  582. >They both continue to look at you, concerned
  583. This girl I know....
  584. >The guy in the back chuckles softly
  585.
  586. >'Okay, that explains it', he says, his voice a deep bass rumble in your ears
  587. >'I think we've all been there before.'
  588. >Probably not like this
  589. >The skinny guy asks 'You want to talk about it?'
  590. >'I mean, fuck it, we're here. And we don't want to leave until we know you're okay'
  591. >They both look legitimately concerned
  592. >It's confusing
  593. Why? Why do you care?
  594. >'I'm not the kind of guy to leave someone in need of help, and, buddy, you look like you need help'
  595. >The second guy gestures at the first, in a manner of saying 'what he said'
  596. >Why not; It's not like you have any better options
  597. S-she was my best friend, and then we started dating
  598. And...
  599. >Yeah, this'll probably explain it
  600. ... and her family moved away suddenly, without warning
  601. I don't think I'm ever going to see her again....
  602. >You cry silent tears in front of these two strangers, not caring
  603. I miss her so much....
  604. I didn't even get to say goodbye...
  605. >You bury your face in your hands, and you suddenly feel a hand grip your shoulder
  606.
  607. >You look up, and see the big guy squatting so he's eye level with you
  608. >He's staring directly at you, his blue eyes clear and sharp
  609. >'Did she love you?'
  610. ...yes...
  611. >'And you loved her?'
  612. >A slight pause
  613. With all my heart
  614. >'Did you get the chance to tell her?'
  615. >His eyes are starting to mist over slightly
  616. I did, right before she left
  617. >His eyes close, and he nods slightly
  618. >'Don't worry, man.'
  619. >He starts to grin
  620. >'You'll see her again'
  621. Somehow I doubt that....
  622. >You look down, depressed
  623. >'No, I'm sure you will'
  624. >'You'll see her in every good memory you have of her, in every dream at night...'
  625. >'And, if all else fails, you'll be reunited when you transcend this life...'
  626. >'I don't know much, but I do know this: Once you start loving someone, you never STOP loving them'
  627. >'And, if she loved you too, she'll be waiting for you, wherever you go.'
  628. >He's kind of shaking now, obviously going through his own emotional ordeal
  629. >Suddenly, the first guy pipes up:
  630.
  631. >'Wow, Scrab, you are SUCH a faggot'
  632. >'Fuck you, Esrith. We can't all just switch off our emotions whenever we feel like it.'
  633. >Scrab then stands up and laughs, a loud, booming exclaimation of relief and exultation
  634. >As he stretches his back from the uncomfortable position, he asks 'You going to be okay.....'
  635. Anon
  636. >'You going to be okay, Anon?'
  637. >You think
  638. >You think about Fluttershy, and how much she reacted when you rejected her the first time
  639. >How hard she worked to show her love for you
  640. >You think about this concerned stranger's words, their full weight hitting you
  641. >Hope and determination cement in your mind
  642. >And, yeah
  643. Yeah, I'm going to be okay
  644. >'Good'
  645. >He grabs you by the hand and jerks you to your feet
  646. >They turn to leave, and Scrab turns around and adds 'Hey Anon'
  647. Yeah?
  648. >'Have a better day than you've been having so far'
  649.
  650. >You chuckle
  651. Don't worry, I will
  652. >You fully intend to
  653. >And you do
  654. >You spend the next few hours wandering around Downtown, enjoying things you forgot you'd enjoyed and marvelling at things forgotten
  655. >But, while you enjoy yourself, you start to think that you really should be getting home
  656. >You've left it unattended for far too long
  657. >You check your cell phone
  658. >Six hours
  659. >....yeah, that's probably long enough
  660. >You start to walk back toward your apartment
  661. >About halfway there, it starts to rain
  662. >That soft, foggy, drizzly rain that Seattle is famous for
  663. >They never had this in Equestria
  664. >You smile, and enjoy the feeling of the cold water running down you as you walk
  665.
  666. >You reach your building, and one short elevator ride later you're in your apartment
  667. >You look around, examining the forgotten relics of a previous life
  668. >Old shirts
  669. >Photos of your family
  670. >Your laptop, a collective gift from your friends
  671. >You smile, and open it up
  672. >There's a song you've been wanting to listen to for three years
  673. >You punch in the password and pull up your audio files
  674. >There
  675. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsmVnN3pzFI
  676. >You don't understand Italian, but you can appreciate the beauty and emotion in the voices
  677. >Your spirit lifts, and you begin to sing along
  678. >And remember
  679. >Fluttershy
  680. >Your love
  681. >How you mistreated her, and how she was always there for you
  682. >Finally accepting her, and wishing you had done it sooner
  683. >The painfully short time you shared as a couple
  684.
  685. >You begin to cry
  686. >You know her too well
  687. >It's been six months in Equestria
  688. >Six months of missing the only person that ever gave her the love she so desperately wanted
  689. >She was always so frail in that regard....
  690. >She's probably already gone, dead by her own hand
  691. >You remember how she reacted to your rejection the first time
  692. >This time you're not there to stop her
  693. >You continue singing, silent tears streaming down your face, and open the sliding glass door to the balcony
  694. >You climb up onto the rail, steadying yourself with the iron post connecting your railing to the balcony above you
  695. >The music continues, and you pour your soul into singing to the cold, gray landscape
  696. >Three years in magic, singing horse land have really conditioned your vocal chords
  697. >You're vaguely impressed by how steady your voice is, considering
  698.
  699. >As the duet ends, you remember the words of a Kind stranger:
  700. >'Once you start loving someone, you never STOP loving them....'
  701. >'And, if they loved you back, they'll be waiting for you...'
  702. >'Wherever you go...'
  703. >You smile
  704. >It's time to go home
  705. >You belt out the final lines of the song, your hand slipping from the railing
  706.
  707. IO...
  708.
  709. CON...
  710.
  711. TE!
  712.
  713. >Still singing, you tip forward off the railing, embracing the drop
  714. >Wind pushes tears up and into your hair, and you close your eyes
  715. >But you're not sad
  716. >In fact, you're overjoyed
  717. >Your final words before you hit the pavement fill you with a mixture of anxiety, relief, and an almost etherial joy
  718.
  719. I'll see you soon, my love.....
  720.
