Background: In the heart of the industrial jungle, it was pretty easy to think that a kid might have trouble breathing. Slateport City was pretty safe in comparison to other places in Hoenn, but it still served to make an already vulnerable boy worse. Wally was born in Slateport with little issue, though the moments after his birth defined what seemed to be the rest of his life. He stopped breathing.

In reality, it was just a severe form of asthma. Still, this didn't make his parents any less concerned for his health- even triggering a move to Petalburg in hopes of better air. He didn't attend the Trainers school, because his parents were worried that the commute would trigger an attack. When others his age embarked into the world, Wally had to stay home- it was too dangerous to go alone. Desperate, he sought out the help of the Petalburg gym leader. If he could convince Norman to help him get a pokémon, then he'd be able to go on a journey and do what he was meant to do.

With the help of May, he caught his Ralts, and everything seemed to fall into place. Though he was soon relocated to Verdanturf to live with his cousin, Wally knew that adventure was in his grasp. As his asthma cleared up, and as he found his own ways of managing it, he planned his great escape and embarked on his journey. And, from there? Well, you know the rest.

He didn't quite catch up to May, though he couldn't be upset about it. In the time since May took the throne to the Pokémon League, Wally has been exploring the world. He's currently interning for Professor Birch, marking the distribution of pokémon throughout both Hoenn and the regions beyond. Still-- His passion always did lay in training pokémon. If he can pick up some battles along the way? Who is he to complain! He dreams of one day challenging the Pokémon League and taking the Champion title- but, something in him still tells him to wait.

He's okay with that.
