Romantic notions of some vague yet reclaimed greatness to me is always inferior to dry genetic arguments, because you cant as easily make nonsense up. I guess because their rivalries never faded then their relatively recent borders are a true identity. Even as supernational projects like the EU actually do fine in their NW core. Or America for another example. But authenticity, however superficial, can be signaled with. They'd have us believe that any greater connection to history in their nation is due to some teolological force rather than just better educational focus. Somehow, a lack of this has degraded your identity as quick as American identity.

Cant make up their mind between lauding americanism over lauding the wehrmacht, or saying it's a mutt nation.

Also they are just wrong, ideas of a wider white group which the ethnicities were a part of has been around. Fighting to control the destiny of that wider group changed little, it's just that only those rivalries mattered. And America shows there is an artificiality to them.
