PIXEL TITANS BOOTH
A PIXEL TITANS Spokesman walks up to the booth. A giant monitor is behind him displaying the PIXEL TITANS logo.
SPOKESMAN:
We now present our feature preview…. STRAFE®!
The image on the monitor then fades to the STRAFE® logo forming as seen in the trailers.
The image then slides to the starting room. The player then picks up the shotgun and heads into the teleporter. A minute of footage is shown. That, however, is enough to spark the audience’s interests.
The monitor zooms in and shows a green wireframe still of the game.
SPOKESMAN:
STRAFE®… Is it a game? Or is it REAL?
After the Spokesman finishes, a GLUTTON bursts out of the wall behind him, smacks him in the face, and menaces the audience watching, particularly our protagonist Tommy. Suddenly, the GLUTTON becomes a green wireframe and disappears.
The spokesman chuckles as he gets back on his feet and wipes the blood off his face.
SPOKESMAN:
STRAFE®, the best game of 1996!
The crowd cheers. We see Tommy cheering with them.
MAY 9th, 1996
We see Tommy skateboarding home from a store, clutching a big-box copy of STRAFE®.
What follows after that is a montage of news reports.
REPORTER 1:
STRAFE®, advertised as the best game of 1996, lives up to that title.
INTERVIEWED BYSTANDER:
His head literally went BOOM! Pieces of brain went flying everywhere!
REPORTER 2:
The Priest of the local Church proclaimed STRAFE® as [BLEEP]ing sick… sick as in Totally Awesome.
TOMMY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
Tommy is calling all his friends about STRAFE®.
TOMMY:
Yo, I just got STRAFE®. Wanna come see me play?
MIKEY:
Hell yeah I do!
ABBY:
Ooh, that sounds fun!
BUDDY:
You have STRAFE®? I gotta see this!
JOBY:
You’re the cool dude now Tommy.
We then cut to Tommy playing the game with his friends huddled around him. Multiple clips of the game, interspersed with shots of Tommy are shown. The crowd CHEERS! Abby gives Tommy a kiss.
Tommy keeps playing. We see close up shots of him rapidly moving the mouse and typing the keyboard. His computer tower starts getting hotter and emitting smoke.
ABBY:
Tommy, STOP!
Tommy doesn’t care. He does soon after his computer shuts off from overheating and his monitor flies off onto the ground.
TOMMY:
We need more RAM.
THE NEXT DAY
Tommy, RAM chips in hand, carefully installs them. He then calls Abby.
TOMMY:
I’ve got those RAM chips in and I’m ordering Pizza. Are you in the mood to see more blood?
ABBY:
Of course I am!
Tommy is playing STRAFE® again, this time with Abby by his side.
ABBY:
Wow, you beat your own record! You get a fat slice.
Abby goes to pick up a thick slice of pizza. Suddenly, A beam of light bursts from the monitor and GRABS Abby!
TOMMY:
ABBY!
He tries to pull her back, but it’s no use. Abby is sucked into the monitor, and into the game as a result. All Tommy has of her now is her pants.
LATER
Tommy has all of his friends gathered in his house.
TOMMY:
We’ve got to get Abby back, guys.
MIKEY:
How? She’s literally in the game!
TOMMY:
I’ve heard rumors on TV about a machine at PIXEL TITANS headquarters that allows you literally go INTO STRAFE®!
PIXEL TITANS BUILDING - NIGHT
We see a shot of the PIXEL TITANS skyscraper, moving upwards from the bottom. A PIXEL TITANS sign is displayed on the top of the building.
Buddy’s car drives up to the front of the building. Tommy walks out.
TOMMY:
I’d like to see Mr. Raney please.
GUARD 1:
You are not allowed to see Raney at this time.
TOMMY:
It’s about STRAFE®.
GUARD 2:
Very well then. Access is granted.
Tommy is in the laboratory of Stephen Raney, CEO of PIXEL TITANS and lead developer of STRAFE®.
TOMMY:
Mr. Raney, I really like your game.
RANEY, in a chair with his back facing TOMMY:
I’m not taking autographs at this moment, kid.
TOMMY:
That’s not the point. The point is while I like your game, I’m not so sure about it now that it took my girlfriend Abby.
Raney is surprised to hear this and gets out of his chair.
RANEY:
It WHAT?!
TOMMY:
The game literally pulled her in!
RANEY:
I’ve got a little history about the game, young man. Sit down with me.
The two sit down.
RANEY:
STRAFE®, started as nothing more than a little, project you could say, with regenerating levels. The rest of the game, however, autogenerated itself into existence.
TOMMY:
What, like God?
RANEY:
Except God wouldn’t stand a chance against STRAFE®. I then decided to sell this game, marketing it like similar games from a couple years back. I gave a free copy to my first son for him to play. All was well, until that fateful day I lost my second.
TOMMY:
How did he die?
RANEY:
I wasn’t aware of the effects on those under the age of, about 12. My wife saw him playing the game, to her horror, and saw him having seizures and vomiting while playing. Eventually, his head exploded. We buried him, and I was infuriated at my own creation for causing the death of my son. I didn’t expect the game to do any more than that.
TOMMY:
I also came here to ask if there truly was a machine that could send me into the game.
RANEY:
Those rumors were true. But be careful in there. You could die.
TOMMY:
I don’t care that I might die or not, I just want Abby back!
RANEY, pointing to the machine:
Very well then, enter that chamber over there and put the helmet on.
Tommy obliges. Raney activates the machine. Tommy then begins to vigorously shake and electrifies with green energy all around him.
TOMMY:
THERE’S NOT ENOUGH POWER! WE NEED A SURGE!
Raney then notices a can of SURGE. He runs in front of Tommy, shakes the can, and sprays it on him, giving the machine enough power to teleport him into the game.
TOMMY:
YEAAAAAAAAAAH!
Fade to white.
Fade back to reveal the…
ICARUS – ZONE 1 OF STRAFE®
A large green sphere appears in the middle and fades away to reveal Tommy with the Shotgun from the game. Tommy wanders around the area, and then hears footsteps. GLUTTON footsteps. He fires at the GLUTTON, prompting PAINT IT RED from the game’s soundtrack to begin. Tommy shoots a few more GLUTTONS as he goes along, forgetting that the physics in the game do not apply to him anywhere else as he tries to STRAFE-JUMP like the game. He then sees a group of GLUTTONS charging at him, with a STALKER with them. TOMMY then activates the Shotgun’s flak grenade, eviscerating the GLUTTONS. He then fires upon the STALKER, beheading it. In the corner of his eye, Tommy notices a Railgun, glowing gold as it does in the game. He picks it up and shoots a CARRIER on the ceiling. After that, he goes into a corner and retrieves a keycard from a corpse. He gets a food canister from a food dispenser and moves the other way into the unlocked door. Inside, he sees Abby, without her pants… and another Abby!
TOMMY:
Abby!
ABBY:
Tommy!
FAKE ABBY:
Tommy.
The fake Abby is low-poly and has a text-to-speech voice to us, but with the realism of STRAFE®, Tommy can’t tell the difference!
TOMMY:
Alright, which one is the real Abby?
ABBY:
I’m the real Abby!
FAKE ABBY:
I am the real Abby.
Tommy points his gun at the real Abby.
ABBY:
Your favorite kind of Pizza is from Pizza Hut!
He points his gun at the Fake Abby.
FAKE ABBY:
Your favorite kind of Pizza is from Pizza Hut.
ABBY:
Your favorite Ninja Turtle is Michelangelo!
FAKE ABBY:
Your favorite Ninja Turtle is Michelangelo.
TOMMY:
I think I know who’s the real Abby.
Tommy shoots the real Abby and goes with the fake. GLUTTONS rush out towards him. He opens fire on a few.
TOMMY:
HEY STEVE! GET US OUT!
RANEY’S LAB
Raney flips a few switches and pushes a button. Tommy and the Fake Abby immediately fall from a hole that appears in the ceiling. Fake Abby just stands there and picks up a wrench off a table, while Raney checks up on Tommy.
RANEY:
Are you OK kid?
Tommy:
I’m fine- LOOK OUT!
Just before he sees his attacker, the Fake Abby smacks him on the head with the wrench. She then proceeds to smash his face in.
FAKE ABBY:
Die.
TOMMY:
Why’d you do that?!
FAKE ABBY, lying:
He was trying to kill you for knowing too much about STRAFE®.
Tommy falls for it, just like how he fell for what she said back in STRAFE®.
TOMMY:
Wait a second! The real Abby lost her pants when she was sucked into the game!
This realization makes Fake Abby go berserk! She starts chasing him through the building. Guards everywhere try to catch or kill Fake Abby. They miss every time. Tommy then jumps out of the window. Fake Abby looks out and sees no Tommy. She then continues her rampage. Cut to Tommy just barely hanging onto the building. When he feels the coast is clear, he gets back in and runs out as fast as he can into Buddy’s car.
OUTSIDE PIXEL TITANS
BUDDY:
Yo, where’s Abby?
TOMMY:
I’ll tell you later. Let’s go!
The car speeds off.
TOMMY’S HOUSE
Tommy is explaining everything.
TOMMY:
So, you see, I killed the real Abby, and took the fake. I noticed it after she killed Raney, and then she chased me. The fake was a creation of STRAFE®. Who knows what she may be doing now.
We then see Fake Abby robbing someone’s parked car and speeding off into the grasslands. The owner then comes onscreen.
CAR OWNER:
HEY! GIVE ME BACK MY CAR!
Fake Abby is seen at an energy block in the grasslands, outside the city. She takes some wires she had with her and begins to connect them to the block. She then finishes with connecting to cords together. A portal opens up behind her. Enemies from STRAFE® pour out.
Rifts into STRAFE® are shown opening in the city from buildings, and all around the world. The inhabitants of the city are menaced and killed by the hordes of STRAFE®. One man is pinned down, slashed, and eaten by a CARRIER. Another’s arm is shot off by a STALKER.
TOMMY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
 Tommy and his friends watch a news report on the TV.
REPORTER 1:
Rifts to the popular game STRAFE® have opened up around the world. Monsters from the game are attacking us as we speak. I advise you stay in your homes, gather what weapons you have and can make, and keep your homes secure, as-
The reporter is cut off as a carrier leaps up and tears him to shreds.
TOMMY:
You see that guys? STRAFE® is generating levels in the real world! Or maybe the real world was always STRAFE®! All we can know for sure, is that everyone else is dead. But I know I can still beat it. I always win.
MIKEY:
This is bad, bad news.
JOBY:
Got any plans?
BUDDY:
What’s that over there?
A shotgun from the game generates near Tommy’s computer.
TOMMY:
I’m going out on the skateboard. You three stay here and defend the house.
Tommy gets the shotgun, puts on some sunglasses and gets his skateboard.
MIKEY:
It’s too fast man, you’ll crash hard!
TOMMY:
So I’ll wear a damn helmet.
He puts on a helmet, but soon throws it off.
CITY - NIGHT
Tommy hops on his skateboard and starts shooting whatever monster crosses his path. He headshots a GLUTTON. Some TURRETS detect him and open fire. He blocks with his shotgun, and shoots back. A STALKER fires at him. Tommy shoots it. Eventually, he comes across the Fake Abby.
TOMMY:
YOU! YOU’RE THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!
FAKE ABBY:
You are so cute. I would enjoy your death.
She then pushes him into another horde of GLUTTONS, who tear him apart.
TOMMY:
AAGH! HELP! SOMEBODY! HElp, me…….
Those were Tommy’s last words. Or were they?
The GLUTTONS run off. Tommy slowly grabs the food canister he had in his pocket. He RIPS it open and eats the food inside. Instantly, his body parts are seamlessly put back together. He gets his shotgun.
He gets back his skateboard and puts on his sunglasses. The sunglasses are cracked and there are a few chips in the skateboard, but he doesn’t care. He skates all the way back to his house.
(OUTSIDE) TOMMY’S HOUSE – DAY
Tommy stops in front of the doorstep of his badly damaged and boarded up house. He knocks on the door.
TOMMY:
It’s me, Tommy! Let me in!
Joby speaks through the blocked door, but it’s really muffled.
JOBY:
How do I know you’re not a fake?
TOMMY:
STRAFE® has never bothered to fake anyone else!
(INSIDE) TOMMY’S HOUSE
BUDDY:
He sounds real to me. Let him in, Joby.
Joby carefully removes the large wooden planks covering the door. He opens it, and Tommy comes in. Joby quickly closes the door.
MIKEY:
What happened?
TOMMY:
Nearly died.
On the TV;
REPORTER 2:
President Bill Clinton has called in the Army and Air Force to combat of the virtual threat.
MIKEY:
You see that? We could help them!
TOMMY:
Might be worth a try.
CITY – DAY
Several tanks and armed trucks from the Army patrol the city. F-15 Fighter Jets fly high. Three TURRETS attempt to shoot down a tank. They are run over. A soldier fills a STALKER with bullets from his M4. Another soldier stabs a GLUTTON in the neck with a combat knife. A pilot shoots down a group of STALKERS and TURRETS. Tommy, Mikey, Buddy and Joby run into view. A GLOWBRITE burns a soldier with its acid. Buddy takes the opportunity to snatch his M4. Joby nabs a pistol from another. Mikey gets a knife from off the ground.
TOMMY:
Let’s go!
Mikey slices a cross in a GLUTTON. Buddy fires upon a group of TURRETS. A soldier his sliced to death by a CARRIER, which soon gets shot in the back by Joby. Tommy finishes off a STALKER, when he hears the engine of a car. He looks at the car. It is driven by the Fake Abby! Tommy runs out of the way. Fake Abby proceeds to mow down several soldiers.
FAKE ABBY:
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
The car drives by a giant rock that just generated in front of it. The rock, however, is a BRICK which uncurls up from its disguise and begins stomping over soldiers. It crushes an F-15 in its bare hands.
BUDDY:
Oh shit.
TOMMY:
Let me have him.
Tommy fires a flak grenade at the BRICK’s face, causing it to stop shielding its chest. Another F-15 fires at the BRICK, killing it. The pilot of the jet gives a thumbs up to Tommy. He gives a thumbs up back. Tommy, however, failed to notice a HARVESTER snatch Mikey. Mikey stabs it in the eye, causing it to drop him. He stabs the other eye. Joby fires a few shots to finish it off. Then they all get into a car and escape the city. Next to them is Fake Abby. She attempts to ram their car into a group of monsters. She nearly succeeds, but Buddy drives away from them just in time. Tommy fires at Fake Abby. He shoots half her head off! This sends her speeding into a large military truck. The collision causes an explosion. The four eventually make it to the grasslands where Fake Abby opened the rifts.
BUDDY:
Looks like this was how the rifts were opened.
JOBY:
Well, try to close the rifts!
Buddy pulls out the wires, but nothing happens. STRAFE® still rampages on in the city. He slams the power block. Still, nothing happens. Then, a deep, computerized voice speaks out from the power block. This is the voice of STRAFE®.
STRAFE®:
You cannot defeat me. The world must play STRAFE® forever.
Several GLUTTONS appear before them. They get back into the car and continue driving away from the city. Along the way, they encounter various monsters. They run over a few GLUTTONS. A HARVESTER Jumps on to the front window, but it is quickly dispatched by shaking the car. Their vision is obscured when blood splatters over the windshield.
BUDDY:
FUCK! I CAN’T SEE!
They haphazardly run over a few more monsters before crashing next to a large pipe. They get out of the car and carefully enter. Joby notices a corpse holding a railgun glowing gold. He drops the pistol and grabs the railgun. They continue, and find themselves in
THE SEWERS
A HARVESTER lurks in the shadows. It SNATCHES Buddy!
TOMMY:
BUDDY!
Joby attempts to crack open a crate.
JOBY:
C’mon, open, damnit, open!
MIKEY:
Back off, Joby.
Joby obliges. Mikey takes his railgun and shoots the crate. Surprisingly, it opens, and a blue can-sized Perk pops out. Tommy grabs it. He presses a button on his shotgun, and a compartment the size of the Perk opens. He puts the perk in there and closes the compartment. A second later, the perk is ejected, devoid of color. The shotgun absorbed its energy.
TOMMY:
Blue increases mag size.
And it does, as the ammo counter on the shotgun now displays eight bars instead of the standard six. Tommy then shoots a GLUTTON to his left. The blood spills into the water, tinting it red. Meanwhile, the HARVESTER carrying MIKEY scurries over to other HARVESTERS. He stabs it in the eyes and goes for a nearby Nailgun. All the HARVESTERS begin to close in on him. Mikey fires back. It doesn’t seem to affect them, however. But they then explode the moment Mikey lets go of the trigger.
MIKEY:
Great. Now I have to go find the others.
Mikey then notices a blood trail left behind by the HARVESTER. He follows it and makes it to where the crate was.
MIKEY:
Guys? Guys??
Farther down the tunnel, Joby hears Mikey.
JOBY:
Sounds like Mikey. Let’s go back!
TOMMY:
It could be a fake.
BUDDY:
I’m siding with Joby about this one.
Tommy decides to deal with it, and the three go back to where Mikey is.
MIKEY:
Thanks, guys.
JOBY:
No problem.
They continue through the sewers. Tommy shoots a STALKER. An ACID GLUTTON attacks Joby and succumbs to his railgun. Acid comes out of the wounds instead of blood, severely burning Joby.
JOBY:
AAGH!
He attempts to ease the pain by splashing the red water onto him. It kind of works. Eventually, they come across a ladder and climb up out of a manhole. They end up in a
TOWN – DAY
overrun by STRAFE®. A HARVESTER jumps onto a police car and sends it out of control. The officer inside attempts to shoot the HARVESTER and ends up heading straight towards Tommy and the gang!
OFFICER 1:
OUT OF THE WAY!
The group jumps out of the way, and the car crashes into the tree, killing both the officer and HARVESTER. A man is shooting a LEPER outside his window. The LEPER responds with a dose of acid. The man moves out of the way to see his couch get burnt up by the acid. Tommy shoots the LEPER’S arm off, causing it to charge towards him. Tommy runs until he gets to the spot he thinks is good enough and jumps out of the way when the LEPER leaps towards him. It explodes into acid the second it hits the ground. Joby encounters a small, green, frog-like creature with big yellow eyes.
JOBY:
You look cute. I’m gonna call you Little Joby.
Joby carries Little Joby with him as he shoots a beam right through a HOSTESS. An officer shoots a HOST point blank in the chest. Buddy comes up to finish the job. Tommy uses a perk from a crate to upgrade the damage his shotgun does. He then enters an abandoned house. In there, he sees a GLUTTON eating a corpse of a man. Tommy headshots the GLUTTON, and sees a computer running STRAFE®. Another GLUTTON in the game sees Tommy and runs up to the screen. Its arm comes out in an attempt to kill Tommy, who RIPS the arm off and whacks the monitor with it. He then ejects the disk from the computer and stores it in his pocket. Tommy notices the machine gun the corpse was holding and grabs it as he exits the house. Outside, He sees Buddy held hostage by a HOST. Tommy tosses the machine gun to him.
TOMMY:
HERE! CATCH!
Buddy grabs the machine gun and fires at the HOST point-blank.
