  1. Lesson Three: Mind Chatter
  2.
  3. Step 1: Talking to yourself.
  4. Your mind is not the only part of you that exists. There are emotions, experiences, bits of personalities, and energy floating around in your field of awareness at any given time. Each of these will be vying for your attention at any given time. Some of them are louder than others and some you can have a conversation with. It's a bit like having a family all in one room, with each member of the family talking to one another about what's going on, what's in the pictures hanging on the wall, where to put the new furnature, and how to do everything going on in the world.
  5.
  6. The first thing you should focus on are the personality fragments loitering in the room. They have many names - subselves, inner child, conscience, id, subsconscience. You are going to have a chat with them.
  7.
  8. Imagine yourself in a room. It's a comfortable room, one that you feel quite at home in. Now imagine that there are other beings in the room. They could be people, they could be pictures, they could be the furnature, they could be invisible... but they're there and you can talk to them.
  9.
  10. These other beings are within you. They're a part of you, but distinct. They have their own ideas or personality. Those are what you talk to. You can have a conversation, you can just listen, you can even play charades. The important part is talking to them, just listening so that every part of you that wants to release all of its pent up ideas or emotions can do so. As the true self, you are the best one to make decisions for yourself and every part of you knows that.
  11.
  12. There will be other things in the room that need taken care of. Doubts and fears, unprocessed experiences, flowing energy, or even what you want to eat later will be lying around. Sweep them into a corner until you're ready. You'll get to them.
  13.
  14. Step 2: Cleaning House
  15. After your bits of self have finished talking to you, it's time to clean up. Take out everything that you swept into the corner one by one and examine it. You should be able to decide if an experience is worth keeping or whether an emotion has any basis in reality by how it feels. If it's empty, you can toss it aside. Keep a rubbish bin handy.
  16.
  17. The experiences and emotions that feel significant can be sorted into your memories. The room is not alone; it can connect you to any other part of your mind. Whenever I store memories, I imagine a great warehouse full of boxes, displays, special containers for intangibles like music or experiences, and every part of the warehouse is accessible by thinking about where I should be. Your storage area should be somewhere that holds a great deal of things. It contains everything you've done in your life, after all.
  18.
  19. The last thing you should do is sweep the room. There will be bits of things you can't identify and free energy laying around. Give everything a good once-over to clear up anything you haven't dealt with. That will clear the room for the next time you visit.
