  1. A soft thump and the pillow buffeted his head, albeit only weakly and Lyre just ducked with the blow, a solid stone in that moment. Ri's head came out from under the blanket, pillow still clutched in her hands. "Just...go away Lyre, I'll be fine!"

  3. The tremble in those words disagreed with her, but Lyre pushed slightly away from the couch and looked away. The sunlight caught the square frame of the wheelchair as it cut away a square of shadow in the light, and Ri's heart gave a lurch at how steady he looked, how unmovable in comparison to her shaking frame and the breath that tumbled out of her lungs.

  5. Tears turned into yelps into action and she was throwing herself off the couch, landing in his lap, wrapping the blanket around the both of them, bundling them away. Away from anywhere where she could see herself, away from anywhere that wasn't their cotton haven, any sight that wasn't his sweater as she buried her face in it.

  7. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. It wasn't supposed to hurt like hell. Her face shouldn't be wet right now. And his arms shouldn't be around her, holding her close. She was well aware of the irony, the frail, wheelchair-bound boy holding his guardian like a child.

  9. She....didn't care. She didn't want him to stop, even if she was a selfish jerk.
