Past: At the age of 6, Kai had lost both parents during an invasion on their tiny camp some distance from the Hidden Leaf, resulting in Kai unlocking his Sharingan, at the age of 6. He grew up without parents baring hatred to those who'd wronged him. He swore vengeance upon those who had caused the pain. Along the path, he'd left the village at age 8. Finishing Academy, he'd chased down his enemies but in the path down to darkness, he'd found light within the shade. His friend, Akio had followed him whilst he left the village and has been tracking him for over a year. Hoping that one day his friend would come back to the Leaf. That dream would be short lived as Kai had accidentally killed him in a crossfire with rogues that had tried to rob him. Upon the death of his friend, he'd obtained his Mangekyou Sharingan. Once he'd read about the risks of said Sharingan. He'd soon remove his friends eyes to relieve himself of the pain of the Sharingan, which plunged him down into more darkness. He eventually tracked down all known members that had attacked himself and his parents many moons ago, and slaughtered them in The Hidden Mist. Upon killing those, he returned to the Leaf of which he was immediately jailed and was placed under supervision with a seal over his eyes.

Soon the current Kage would offer Kai a last chance of freedom, if he joined the Anbu, as a way to "Make peace" with his past decisions. Ever since that fateful day, he's been working extremely hard to alleviate himself of his past wrongs.
