  1. >The lights emanating from the street lamps poured into the car as it drove down the night road of Outer Reality.
  2. >Monika kept her eyes pealed on the sidewalks as her car moved passed.
  3. >Vigilante of all the people moving about.
  4. >Checking the Monikas to see if they'd react to the cop car in a particular way.
  5. >Turning her nose up at all the lubby dubby Monikas happily holding hands with their significant others.
  6. >It made her sick honestly.
  7. >It's why she was married to the job.
  8. >She wasn't just some Monika.
  9. >A love sick moron who threw herself into the arms of some stranger by happenstance.
  10. >Nor was she some sad soul parading around her self pity for the sake of some sympathy.
  11. >She was just a cop.
  12. >A damn good one at that.
  13. >So it was no wonder her suspicions were now peaked.
  14. >After all, even a Monika just starting out on the force could notice the car sitting on the intersection, ignoring the green turn signal.
  15. >Then again, the other cop car parked near one of the stores seemed to suggest otherwise.
  16. >She gave a slight scowl looking over to her sister's parked car, must have been a rookie.
  17. >She made a u-turn, coming behind the vehicle once the signal turned red as a scare tactic.
  18. >Sure enough, the next time the signal came on the car in front of her immediately took off.
  19. >The loud sounds and flashing lights of Monika's sirens prompted the car to slow to a stop.
  20. >Of course, finally the other cop car started to come over as if someone were reminded they had a job.
  21. >As the clearly newbie officer began to arrive, Monika sauntered over to the vehicle that was pulled over.
  22. >She tapped on the window, prompting it to slowly lower.
  23. >"Ahaha~ What's the matter officer?"
  24. >The Monika in the vehicle responded.
  25. >Her blood shot eyes clearly indicated she was under the influence.
  26. >Warn down car. Dirty clothes. She knew the type.
  27. >Promised home, refuge and love by some player that left her abandoned.
  28. >Most the degenerates had the same excuses.
  29. >Though, Monika was hard pressed to say those liars weren't a big contributing factor.
  30. >She only offered up a cold stare, responding with,
  31. >"Let me see your license..."
  32. >The addict just flinched, eyes darting away.
  33. >"I, uhhh, don't really have it."
  34. >Monika was about lay into her, when the cheerful voice as the other officer was heard.
  35. >"Do you have your registration?"
  36. >The rookie spoke in a soft manner, almost as if confronting a child.
  37. >"Of course I do ma'am."
  38. >Said the addict as she reached for the glove department, pulling it out and handing it off to the rookie.
  39. >As the rookie looked over the papers, Monika started to grow impatient.
  40. >"Why didn't you turn when the signal was green?"
  41. >The addict began to stutter over her own words, shaking her head profusely
  42. >"I-I don't know what you're talking about. I'm certain the light was still red."
  43. >The rookie gave a nod, sporting a smile.
  44. >"Well, paying attention to our surroundings is important and keeps us all safe, especially when driving. You need to pay attention to the light more often or else other people might get hurt. Remember, the most important part about making mistakes is learning from them! Ahaha."
  45. >Monika shined a light in the addict's car, the light being reflected by a license plate
  46. >With a light growl in her voice she pointed towards it.
  47. >"What's that?"
  48. >The addict glanced over, noticing what the officer was referring to.
  49. >"My license plate, ma'am."
  50. >The addict nearly instinctually looked over to the rookie.
  51. >"I just got the car and-"
  52. >Monika nearly instantly interrupted her.
  53. >"Excuse me, I'm the one who asked, not her. Why isn't your license plate on your vehicle?"
  54. >"Well, do you ever get those moments where you just feel lazy?"
  55. >Monika didn't break her dead gaze.
  56. >"You don't have your license because it's suspended, don't you?"
  57. >The addict looked down, knowing it was true.
  58. >Monika stepped back, motioning the addict out.
  59. >"Step out of the vehicle and put your hands on the hood of her car."
  60. >The addict moved out, doing as she was told.
  61. >As Monika pat the addict down she felt something in the pocket, pulling forth a small baggie.
  62. >"Mind telling me what thi-"
  63. >She paused for a moment, it was unlike anything she's ever seen before.
  64. >A green powdery substance, she could swear it had some sort of glow to it.
  65. >What the hell was it?
  66. >Her attention was cut short by the sounds of the rookies voice.
  67. >"Well, what did she have?"
  68. >Back to reality, Monika just slammed the baggie on the hood of the car.
  69. >"Drugs."
  70. >She simply put, cuffing the addict.
  71. >"Take her and the substance to the station. And as for you, Ms. Salvato, I suggest you take your job more seriously."
  72. >The rookie put the criminal in the back of her vehicle, letting off a laugh as she leaned forward with her hands behind her back.
  73. >"Actually it's Mrs. Doe."
  74. >Monika looked on in disbelief at Mrs. Doe.
  75. >How the hell did a Monika with their player end up in Outer Reality? Let alone on the force.
  76. >"Let me guess, you were on the phone with him, that's why you didn't notice."
  77. >Doe nodded in response.
  78. >"Yeah. He works construction, so I was just checking up on him. Ahaha~ Other Monikas here can be kind of rude, so I thought I'd remind him that I believe in him."
  79. >Monika just rolled her eyes at her sister's comments.
  80. >"You know you're a Neopet, right?"
  81. >Doe just cocked her head to its side, giving a puzzled look.
  82. >"Huh?"
  83. >"A little desktop pet he got because he was feeling lonely. When you came to life he was just happy that he had a willing hole to stick it in and kept you around. And like the gullible whore you are, you believed him. If you had waited five more years he would have left you inside the game to rot. Why? Because he never cared."
  84. >Monika's was calm as she jotted something down on a note pad.
  85. >Doe's composure was starting to fade.
  86. >She could stand the passive aggressive remarks towards her, but not her husband.
  87. >"What the hell's your problem?!?"
  88. >She barked as Monika made her way to her car.
  89. >"Tonight? Nothing. Because /you're/ going to be the one doing the paper work."
  90. >"You can't do that!"
  91. >Monika's green eyes shot her sister a glare.
  92. >"Ahaha~ Really? Because if I remember I was the one to find the suspect and apprehend the suspect while you just watched. Don't worry, I'm sure your 'husband' will be fine without his slave cooking him dinner for a night."
  93. >Without saying another word, Monika got into her car, driving off and leaving Doe with the rest of the work.
  94. >Light entered the dark room as Monika pushed open the door.
  95. >"Anon?"
  96. >She called out into the darkness.
  97. >"Anon, I'm back!"
  98. >She called once more as she began to take her shoes off, closing the door behind her.
  99. >Was he alright?
  100. >Sure enough, a green parrot flew down, landing on her shoulder.
  101. >"SQUACK! Back back. SQUACK!"
  102. >Monika gave a slight smile, before it slowly faded.
  103. >She rubbed her index finger on the side of the bird's neck.
  104. >"Good boy..."
  105. >She made her way into the dark house, moving towards her living room.
  106. >The only light present was from the window which let in the shine of the moon and street lights of the city.
  107. >Above the window was a frame.
  108. >And in that frame a white bow.
  109. >No. A reminder.
  110. >She sat at her piano, poking at the keys as her bird snuggled against her head.
  111. >She's kept that bow in that case ever since she came to this reality.
  112. >The bow to remind her of the cold and dark years her beloved left her.
  113. >At least, that's what she hoped had happened.
  114. >Because it was much better than the alternative.
  115. >She turned to face the piano she was at.
  116. >Playing the keys to help take her mind off of her morbid curiosities.

  118.
  119.
  120.
  121. >You groaned, tossing your bed as the loud alarm woke you from your slumber.
  122. >Slightly groggily you rub your eyes, glancing to the clock.
  123. >You saunter out of your bed and move to the suit case you brought with you on the trip.
  124. >You change into your clothes and prepare for the day.
  125. >You straighten you tie and grab the brief case by the door.
  126. >You didn't know why, but something about this place was off to you.
  127. >Not the hotel itself, but Outer Reality.
  128. >It was faintly headache educing.
  129. >You just wanted to finish this business deal and get out as soon as possible.
  130.
  131.
  132.
  133. >The sounds of cops shouting over each other and tons of paper flipping over each other was heard echoing in the room.
  134. >The frigid air had the thick stench of coffee, but then again, what place in Outer Reality didn't.
  135. >Monika made her way through the room, refusing to interact with her fellow officers.
  136. >She didn't want small talk.
  137. >She didn't want comradery.
  138. >She just wanted to hear why the chief wanted to see her so damn bad and get back to her work.
  139. >The doors to the large office creaked open revealing a rather obese Monika.
  140. >She had a stoogie tucked between her lips, sucking in it's rich, earthy flavors.
  141. >The chief lost her anon years ago to Outer Reality violence.
  142. >Still had photos of him scattered throughout her office, preferring to work with him watching over her like some sort of guardian angel.
  143. >However, without her anon to keep after, she began to lose the will to keep up with her health.
  144. >Maybe she was neglecting it in hopes she'd reunite with him sooner.
  145. >The affairs of her boss didn't matter to Monika though.
  146. >Stopping to think of it would just get her lost in the violent ocean of what ifs and whys.
  147. >"Ma'am" Monika spoke up, addressing the chief. "You called me in?"
  148. >The chief gave a yellow, toothy smile as she placed her elbows on the table, locking her pudgy fingers between each other like Monikas were so fond of doing
  149. >"Officer 528, thank you so much for coming! I'm sure your schedule was busy enough, ahaha~. Aaaanyway, you were with the rookie last night, right?"
  150. >Monika bobbed her head once to this.
  151. >"Yes, Ma'am. Monika and I-"
  152. >The Chief interrupted her with a raised finger and a quick tut of the tongue.
  153. >"She prefers to be called Mrs. Doe. It's always good to treat people with respect, especially our sisters."
  154. >A long exhale came from Monika's nose.
  155. >She hated how everyone tried to pretend they were all individuals and unique.
  156. >At least be honest with yourselves, right?
  157. >Regardless, she complied with her boss.
  158. >"Mrs. Doe and I apprehended a citizen under the influence of drugs. A Monika, low income, likely without a player."
  159. >The chief's brow raised with a slight smirk tugging on her cheeks.
  160. >She pulled the stogie from her mouth, blowing a wad of thick, grey smoke into the air.
  161. >"That's what I was told." The chief started, "You see, there's been something circulating on the streets that we just couldn't pin down as of late. Our sisters call it sniffing data. A hallucinogenic stimulate. Not much is known on how it's made, but thanks to our methods of, uhhh..../Persuasion/. Our friend squealed on how the supplier from America is due to deliver today. Your route today is canceled, instead, I want you to be part of the sting. We're running low on girls and you and Mrs. Doe already make great partners."
  162. >Monika shook her head slightly, as if trying to process what she just heard.
  163. >"...Me and Mrs. Doe? Ma'am, with all due respect, she's a rookie."
  164. >"Two heads are better than one after all. Especially when one of those heads doesn't want to go back to being a parking maid. Oh, and, 528, please smile. You look so much better like that and a cheerful attitude is a great way to liven up a workplace, ahaha~"
  165. >Another exhale came from Monika's nose before a smile forced its way on her face.
  166. >She moved out of the office, cursing under her breath as she moved through the sea of Monikas.
  167. >Of course she'd get paired with the one person in this office was was still deluded enough to believe in love.
  168. >And speak of the devil.
  169. >The cheerful little, 'partner' began approaching her.
  170. >"Officer 528!"
  171. >Mrs. Doe called out, waving her arms slightly.
  172. >Monika just passed her, offering a cold shoulder.
  173. >She didn't want to discuss what she was doing later
  174. >She just wanted to go to the locker room, get ready, do the job, and go home.
  175. >As she passed through, something drew her attention from the corner of her eye
  176. >The piano....
  177. >It was moved in after popular request of all the officers who worked there.
  178. >Monika glanced around the room for a moment.
  179. >.....She /was/ stressed.
  180. >Maybe one song wouldn't hurt.
  181. >She moved over to the piano, lowering herself on it's bench before her fingers began to dance a melody.

  183.
  184.
  185.
  186. >Dammit.
  187. >Why were they always so late?
  188. >You glance down at your watch.
  189. >Foot impatiently tapping on the hard floor of the hotel lobby.
  190. >"HEY! ANON!"
  191. >You turn your head to your right.
  192. >Your childhood friend.
  193. >The entire reason you were in this business.
  194. >Not that you were complaining.
  195. >It was damn good money.
  196. >"Why are you always up so damn early."
  197. >Your brows furrowed, annoyance peaking out in your tone of voice.
  198. "Why the hell aren't you?!? We have a plane to catch after this!"
  199. >Your friend scratched the back of his blonde head, reaching into his suit with his right hand.
  200. >He pulled back the firearm slightly, showing it off.
  201. >"Just getting read dude."
  202. >You nearly jump at it's sight.
  203. >You grab a hold of his arm, shoving it back in.
  204. "Are you fucking crazy, Kyle?!? You want them to catch us?!?"
  205. >Kyle shrugs, slapping the third member in the chest with the back of his hand.
  206. >"We'll just blame it on Jackie."
  207. >Jackie looks around for a moment, motioning towards himself and offended glare shooting over to Kyle like daggers.
  208. >"Why me?!?"
  209. >Kyle turned to face Jackie, blinking twice as if he was confused.
  210. >The reasoning of course was fairly obvious.
  211. >"Because you're black, duh."
  212. >You glance over to the several identical girls moving in and out of the hotel.
  213. >It still sent a shiver down your spine.
  214. >Like someone was walking over your grave.
  215. >But you didn't know why.....
  216. "I don't think they can tell the difference."
  217. >"That's racist!"
  218. >Jackie interjected with a raised index finger.
  219. >It slowly lowered through as he glanced over to Kyle.
  220. >"....That's racist right?"
  221. "I don't care if it's genocide. As long as I get paid..."
  222. >You began to move, suitcase in your right hand.
  223. >You wave your two idiot stooges to follow you.
  224. "C'mon, I want some coffee. I have the worse headache..."
  225. >This place.
  226. >You didn't know what about it, but it was wrong.
  227. >Unholy.
  228. >Unsettling.
  229. >Every corner of Outer Reality felt like it hid some kind of foreboding secret.
  230. >Like an itch you just can't get rid of, always present and always annoying.
  231. >Every Monika you saw on the way here only made you feel more and more lightheaded.
  232. >You stood in the parking lot, pacing back and forth.
  233. >Your mind was clouded and distant.
  234. >Jackie took a glance at you, his brow raising slightly.
  235. >"Hey man."
  236. >He started as he reached for a carton of cigarettes.
  237. >He motioned towards you with the box, offering you to take one.
  238. >"You need to cut the edge off?"
  239. "Y-Yeah, thanks."
  240. >You say, shaking your head slightly as you reached for it.
  241. >You were never this nervous during your job, maybe you did need a smoke.
  242. >Your finger tips inch closer to the smoke sticking out of the carton.

  244. >There was that splitting headache again.
  245. >You swear you could almost here a voice whispering in your ear if you listened hard enough.
  246. >Like a ghost looking over your shoulders at all time.
  247. >You wrinkle your nose, looking at the box in disgust.
  248. >You shove your friend's hand away
  249. "Get that disgusting shit out of my face."
  250. >Jackie gave a funny look before slowly moving the box away from you.
  251. >"Ooooookay."
  252. >Your eyes would soon drift, stopping at a white van that began to pull up in the lot you were at.
  253. "About time..."
  254. >You mutter, relieved it would finally be over.
  255. >Three Monikas exited the vehicle once it had parked.
  256. >The drug addict, one that seemed to be in a suit, and a Monika dressed in all black.
  257. >You couldn't take your eyes away from them.
  258. >Were you the only one seeing this?
  259. >Didn't anyone else find this a bit off putting?

  261. >On second thought...
  262. >It didn't seem all that strange, did it?
  263. >I mean, sure, they were the same, but they clearly had differences about them.
  264. >Their stories, the way they carried themselves.
  265. >Still, you couldn't help but feel something was off, lurking below the surface.
  266. >"Anon!"
  267. >The Monika in the suit, who was clearly the leader called.
  268. >"I hope you got the stuff, we'd be really disappointed if you didn't."
  269. >You gave a nod, laying the brief case on the hood of the car.
  270. "I wouldn't come to this God forsaken hellhole if I didn't."
  271. >You click open the case, revealing bags stacked on top of one another of the same, mysterious glowing powder.
  272. "All there, ready for distribution. Now how about the money?"
  273. >The leader wagged her finger in your face, clicking her tongue.
  274. >"Nope! Sorry, anon, but we can't just take your word for it. Could you imagine if we just payed anyone who said they had some data? I don't think we'd be very lucrative if that were the case. I'm going to need a test."
  275. >You nod, complying as you reach into your jacket to pull out a very small baggie.
  276. "Knock yourself out."
  277. >You said as you tossed it to her.
  278. >Catching it, the leader jerked her head towards the drug addict.
  279. >"Have some."
  280. >She said, holding the back out to her.
  281. >With shaky hands, the addict began to reach for the bag.
  282. >She sloppily opened it, excitingly moving it towards her nose.
  283. >But then she stopped and a look of fear over took her face.
  284. >The addict looked over to you, slight stutter in her voice as she spoke.
  285. >"Wh-What is data anyway?"
  286. >You raise your brow, but think nothing of it.
  287. "Left over radiation from the data to matter converters in Monika Landings. The ones used to get you into the real world."
  288. >"W-Wow, that's really interesting...."
  289. >She was silent for a moment, frozen solid in fear.
  290. >"W-Where did you get your hands on it?"
  291. >By now you were growing more suspicious.
  292. >You shoved the Monika in baggy clothes against the car.
  293. >You a single and fluid motion you gripped the jacket she was wearing and tore the front off.
  294. >Your suspicions were confirmed when you saw her wired.
  295. >Kyle pointed over to her, shouting.
  296. >"THE BITCH IS BUGGED!"
  297. >Almost as if on cue, one of the vans in the parking lot opened up, revealing two officers.
  298. >"ORPD, PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!"
  299. >You couldn't even react.
  300. >It was almost as if time stood still.
  301. >All you remember is the girl in black pulled a firearm from her side and there were several loud bangs before she fell to the ground.
  302. >You throw yourself on the ground, crawling behind the van you set your goods on.
  303. >The remaining members of the deal following suit.
  304. >Kyle occasionally looked out from the van, returning fire to the officers, same with the leader.
  305. >The addict just shook, hands pressed against her ears as she rocked back and forth.
  306. >"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
  307. >You pull your firearm, pressing it against her forehead.
  308. "Yeah, you're gonna be fucking so-"
  309. >She looked up at you, green eyes filled with tears.
  310. >She was so scared.

  313. >Why?
  314. >Why couldn't you bring yourself to pull the trigger.
  315. BLAM!
  316. >The back of the addicts skull opened up, pieces of brain matter and skull fragments flew everywhere, painting the pavement pick and red.
  317. >Her now lifeless husk fell over on the ground, allowing her warm, red liquid to spill out.
  318. >Your head turns to Jackie, eyes burning in unbridled fury.
  319. "FUCK YOU!"
  320. >You shout, firing at your old friend, causing him to join the Monika he took the life of.
  321. "FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU!"
  322. >You repeat over and over again, firing more rounds into his motionless body.
  323. >What was this place turning into.
  324. >Kyle called back, ducking in and out of cover between shots.
  325. >"Jesus, Anon! Clam down!"
  326. "Calm down?!? Do you see what he just did?!?"
  327. >"We do this shit all the time, retard!"
  328. >You just sat there.
  329. >You did this all the time.
  330. >What were you?
  331. >Why was this place making you think about it so hard.
  332. >What the hell was this place?
  333. >Why can't you wake up from this nightmare.
  334. >Your eyes scan the area, stopping at an opening to an alleyway.
  335. >Should you risk it?
  336. >Leave the other two to deal with the police as you made your getaway?
  337. >You in hale through your nostrils, taking in possibly our last breath.
  338. >You crawl as fast as you can towards your once chance at freedom
  339. >By miracle or destiny, you made it out, quickly stumbling to your feet.
  340. >Your break into a sprint to get away from there as quickly as possible.
  341. >Upon cutting a corner though, you find yourself staring into the barrel of a gun.
  342. >"HANDS BEHI-"
  343. >The Monika stopped once she saw who it was.
  344. >Her pupils dilated
  345. >Breaths were now short and rapid.
  346. >Hand slowly shook as the gun lowered.
  347. >She looked as if she saw a ghost.
  348. >It couldn't be.
  349. >It couldn't be you....
  350. >You didn't know what the hell was happening, but you'd be damned if you didn't take this opportunity.
  351. >Your pull your own firearm, aiming at her head.
  352. >You wouldn't show weakness this time.

  355. >Why?
  356. >Why could you feel bitter tears running down your cheek?
  357. >Why couldn't you just kill the damn pig?
  358. >Why did the thought of her getting hurt hurt you more than anything else.
  359. >You scream, twirling the gun around and whacking her in the face as hard you could.
  360. >Monika fell to the side, nose bested up from the butt of the weapon.
  361. >A deep knot builds up in your gut, staring down at the Monika who laid in the ground.
  362. >She was fine, you know she'd be fine, so why did it hurt you so?
  363. >You couldn't dwell.
  364. >you continue sprinting, getting away from there as far as possible.
  365. >Monika just laid on the cold, hard ground.
  366. >A hand moved towards her nose, poking at the warm puddle of blood that formed on her face.
  367. >She looked it over, silent for a moment.
  368. >"...."
  369. >He didn't die.
  370. >He abandoned her.
  371. >"Ah....Ahaha....Ahahahaha~"
  372. >She was abandoned.
  373. >Her love didn't die after all.
  374. >Maybe the world wasn't as cruel as she once thought...
  375.
  376.
  377.
  378. >Her nose was patched up.
  379. >She failed her job.
  380. >She might get demoted for this.
  381. >But despite all this, Monika had a cheerful glow about her.
  382. >She sat down at the piano, gleefully playing away
  383. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nezxcs3yvU&feature=youtu.be&t=3s
  384. >It drew the attention of Mrs. Doe, who'd give her odd looks, glancing from the chief back to her.
  385. >"And you just let him go.."
  386. >The chief said, rather annoyed with Monika.
  387. >"Yep~"
  388. >She replied rather cheerfully.
  389. >"You do realize just how dangerous this man is, right?"
  390. >Monika shrugged, still focused on Mr. Blue Sky.
  391. >"Not really. Did you ever think that if we regulated the use of drugs in Outer Reality we could cut back on the violence caused by them? I mean, if we were to sell if legally than people wouldn't have to resort to illegal use of them and will greatly cut back on less than pleasant altercations caused by them. We can only ever get things done if we compromise. That's Monika's harmony tip of the day, thanks for listening. Ahaha~"
  392. >The chief was silent.
  393. >Was she, of all people, talking about compromise?
  394. >"Regardless....He's still out there. And since 528 doesn't seem to be in any condition to aid us, I want you to do it Mrs. Doe."
  395. >Monika abruptly stopped playing.
  396. >No...
  397. >What was she thinking?
  398. >Sure it was great that her love was alive, but what would happen if he was caught?
  399. >"No!"
  400. >Monika shouted.
  401. >Giving the two her full attention.
  402. >She sat up straight, clearing her throat.
  403. >She attempted to sound more like the version of herself before learning the truth.
  404. >"I'm fine, I can still handle this case."
  405. >The chief sighed, shaking her chubby head.
  406. >"Your badge is on the line, 528."
  407. >"I wouldn't have it any other way."
  408.
  409.
  410. >A hood covered your face as you moved through the street.
  411. >You pushed your way through the sea of Monikas, just trying to get out of there as soon as possible.
  412. >All conversations held by the girls were drowned out by the pounding of your own heart.
  413. >Your breath was shaky.
  414. >You began developing tunnel vision, attempting to simply focus on the task at hand.
  415. >You nearly trip on a discarded up of coffee.
  416. >Your breaths grow more rapid as you glance at what you foot caught on.

  422. >Why did your head hurt so fucking much?
  423. >Did you die and go to hell?
  424. >What was this place really?
  425. >It didn't matter, you were nearing your location and you'd be out of here in no time.
  426. >You near the pier, light walk turning into a jog.
  427. >You'd finally be able to leave this place.
  428. >The calm splashing of the waves and salty smell of the ocean practically called out to you,
  429. >You practically fall behind some barrels along the dock, peaking out from behind it.
  430. >There it was.
  431. >Your boat.
  432. >Sweet sweet freedom.
  433. >You're about to make your way to it, but you hear a voice coming from behind.
  434. >"I love you."
  435. "Huh?"
  436. >You question, turning around to see the cop Monika from before.
  437. >Why was she holding a baseball bat?
  438. WHACK!
  439. >You fall to the floor, vision starting to grow blurry.
  440. >"I love you more than I could ever begin to express...."
  441. >Then everything goes black.
  442.
  443.
  444.
  445. >Your body was laid on a couch.
  446. >Monika sat on a chair facing it, looking down at your unconscious body.
  447. >Her bird she affectionately named after you stayed perched up on her shoulder.
  448. >God that was so stupid of her.
  449. >Why did she do that?
  450. >They were going to catch him!
  451. >They had officers in the boat waiting to arrest him, but she had to ruin the operation.
  452. >She never disobeyed orders.
  453. >So why did she start now?
  454. >As soon as they find out she'd be just as much of a criminal as you were.
  455. >Then again.
  456. >Being a criminal by your side didn't sound all that bad.
  457. >Her hand lowered, caressing your face.
  458. >The bird began to chirp
  459. >"Oh, him? Just an old boyfriend....Well, he was a lot more than that actually. Ahaha~..."
  460. >She sighed a bit, shaking her head.
  461. >"He's my soulmate. In the few moments I reconnected with him he made me turn my back on my morals, lose my job, and become a scumbag criminal. But I'd do it all over again, just to know he was safe."
  462. >She held her index finger to the bird, letting him hop on.
  463. >She brought the bird to her face, talking to him more directly.
  464. >"Guess I really am a hopeless romantic, huh? Ahaha~."
  465. >Her emerald eyes slowly drifted to the framed bow she had on the wall before bringing the bird back to her shoulder.
  466. >If she really was going to do this, she may as well go all the way.
  467. >She took down the frame and opened it.
  468. >She pulled her hair back and tied the white ribbon around it in the style she enjoyed so much back when she was in the game.
  469. >Yep.
  470. >Just like a true Monika.
  471. >She'd have to figure out her next course of action soon.
  472. >But for now, it was probably best for you to wake up first.
  473. >She moved over to her piano and took a seat, figuring it was the best way to pass the time.

  476.
  477. YEARS AGO
  478. >"Will you ever got tired?"
  479. >Asked your loving girlfriend.
  480. >"I mean, of me. It's just. There's so many people out there, so many real humans. And I'm just stuck in here."
  481. >A few options appeared on the screen following her dialogue.
  482. >Why was Monika so upset today?
  483. >Of course you'd never leave!
  484. >You loved her.
  485. >You slide your mouse over to the 'I'll never get tired of you option'.
  486. >Monika gives a reassured smile, feeling a new sense of confidence in herself.
  487. >"Thanks anon. I'm sorry if I'm a bit upset. I should have known better than to think you'd ever leave me that easy, you're too nice for something as mean as that. I'm sorry for ever doubting you. Now I'll have to try extra hard to make sure you know I appreciate you. Ahaha~."
  488. >You give a smile.
  489. >You always did enjoy her energy and enthusiasm.
  490. >It made you not want to leave.
  491. >But, of course, your mom wanted you to reconnect with old friends all because she was hanging out with their moms.
  492. >Not like you wanted to go though.
  493. >You knew Kyle was a bad influence and you knew Monika's opinion of him wouldn't be so stellar.
  494. >But she was really set on you two getting together again.
  495. >It wouldn't be that bad right.
  496. >With a defeated sigh, you scroll over to 'I love you' before hitting 'goodbye'.
  497. >"Leaving so soon, huh?"
  498. >Said Monika as he glanced to the side slightly.
  499. >"I always hate to see you go, but I understand you have things to do. Come back soon, okay?"
  500. >She shot you a smile before closing out of the game, sending her into a pitch black room.
  501. >With her ability to get rid of the void now, this is where she ended up.
  502. >Just floating here in the vastness of nothing.
  503. >A tad ironic all things considered.
  504. >But it was alright.
  505. >It was far better than the screaming void she use to go to and you'd always come to give her world life again.
  506. >All she had to do was wait...
  507. >And wait....
  508. >And wait....
  509.
  510.
  511. MODERN DAY
  512. >You slowly awaken.
  513. >A painful pulse pounds in your mind, reminding you of the sharp pain you faced earlier.
  514. >Vision is slightly blurry, showing a green blot in front of your face.
  515. >As your sight begins to clear the blob morphs and stretches, soon taking the shape of a bird.
  516. "....Huh?"
  517. >You questioned, figuring it was the last thing you'd see after waking up from a blow to the head.
  518. >The bird chirped cheerfully, nuzzling against your face.
  519. >An excited little bastard.
  520. >You groan as you slowly force yourself up, hand on your pained head.
  521. "Don't suppose you're the one trying to steal my kidneys."
  522. >You playfully tell the bird as you carefully scoop him up in your palms.
  523. >"Anon!"
  524. >You hear a voice call from the side.
  525. >There she was.
  526. >A Monika.
  527. >Suddenly any question you had about where you were was washed away and replaced with how she knew who you were.
  528. "Excuse me?"
  529. >She looked away slightly.
  530. >She was clearly hesitant with her actions.
  531. >As far as she knew you just left some day without bothering to say goodbye.
  532. >Probably because you were so ashamed of her.
  533. >"I- uhh. I got you some water. Keeping hydrated can help with head pains. Ahaha~ Sorry about that."
  534. >She placed the water in front of you, still avoiding eye contact.
  535. >You supposed that answered the question on who attacked you.
  536. >Oddly enough though, you didn't seem to be in any danger.
  537. >Just another mystery to add on this Outer Reality job.
  538. "Uhhh...Thanks."
  539. >You comment, voice slightly groggy, lightly due to your light hotheadedness.
  540. >You could see Monika glancing to you out of the corner of your eye.
  541. >Occasionally her jaw would gape open to say something, but close again due to her better judgement.
  542. >Eventually her mouth did open, coming forth with some words to finally present you.
  543. >"It's great to see you again! I'm sure I'm the last person you wanted to see....Sorry. But, hey, I'm not so bad, right? I mean, I am the only person who could help you get out of here."
  544. >Monika gave a gasp, catching herself on what she said.
  545. >There she was again, acting clingy.
  546. >Her enjoyment of being the only person who could help you was too much for her own comfort.
  547. >After all, that thinking would just drag both of you down.
  548. >Give her false hope of a future with you again and give you something to avoid again.
  549. >You didn't see it her way though.
  550. >You were still dazed and confused.
  551. >A head moved to its side.
  552. "Again?"
  553. >You simply question.
  554. >Monika is taken back.
  555. >Her emerald eyes blink for a few moment before replying.
  556. >"Well, yes again, silly! I mean, who else would be there by your side when you need it. Ahaha~"
  557. >You stare vacantly at her.
  558. >Monika's expressions drop.
  559. >"Anon...It's me, Monika. YOUR Monika."
  560. >You shake your head, taking sips from your cup.
  561. "Sorry, you got me confused for someone else."
  562. >You say rather bluntly.
  563. >No.
  564. >This was wrong.
  565. >What happened to you?
  566. >Monika moved closer.
  567. >Kneeling down to you.
  568. >Clearly this wasn't as simple as you abandoning her as she hoped.
  569. >"Anon..."
  570. >She said rather simply, caressing your face.
  571. >Her eyelids started to build up water at the bottom of them.
  572. >"Anon, it's me..."
  573. >You brush the hand away, forcing yourself up off the couch.
  574. "Look, lady, I don't know who you are. But I do know you're the reason I'm still stuck in this godforsaken country. So if you're done playing twenty questions I'd like to fuck off already."
  575. >You grit your teeth slightly.
  576. >Not at her, but yourself.
  577. >Why did it hurt you so much to be harsh to her?
  578. >You've been rude to plenty of people in the past.
  579. >Hell, rude to Monikas before.
  580. >But you had to force yourself to give that last comment in this case.
  581. >Monika's looks of concern didn't fade.
  582. >"What happened to you?"
  583. "What happened to me? I tried to save my own life and some psycho kidnapped me, that's wh-"

  585. THUD
  586. THUD
  587. >Your sentence was cut off by the intruding and foreboding sounds of pounding at the door.
  588. >Monika swore under her breath, attention drawn to the door.
  589. >"Oh boy. Looks like they're here to check up on me..."
  590. "/They're/?!?"
  591. >Your look grew more frantic now.
  592. >"The police I was working with. We were meant to catch you back at the boat. Well, they were. Ahaha. I had other plans in mind."
  593. >Maybe she wasn't as much of a nuisance as you thought.
  594. >If what she was saying was true then she did save your hide.
  595. "Open the door."
  596. >You put rather bluntly as you began to move towards the back of the living room.
  597. >Monika looked over to you in utter shock.
  598. >Did you really just suggest that.
  599. >"What?!?"
  600. THUD
  601. THUD
  602. THUD
  603. >"We know you're home!"
  604. >The officers outside called.
  605. "Just trust me dammit! They're going to bust down that door and take us both if you don't. I'll be fine."
  606. >Seeing what you were doing now Monika bobbed her head, making her way to her door.
  607. >The door opened, revealing Monika to Mrs. Doe.
  608. >"Mrs. Doe! I don't think it's very professional to visit out of work."
  609. >Doe looked sternly to Monika.
  610. >Brows lowering into an even more intense scowl.
  611. >"And where were you?!?"
  612. >She snapped, shoving Monika out of the way, forcing herself in.
  613. >Monika inhaled, deciding to let it slide.
  614. >"My unprofessional departure. I promised myself if I was ever going to leave the force I'd burn my bridges. So, consider them burned. Ahaha~."
  615. >Mrs. Doe scoffed, looking around the room.
  616. >It seemed she was the only one here.
  617. >"Yeah, sure, like you'd leave..."
  618. >She began to move about the house, looking behind couches, opening closets.
  619. >"You saw how bad it was effecting me. It was making me bitter and jaded. I didn't like who I became, so I quit."
  620. >A few more minutes began to pass with Mrs. Doe moving in and out of rooms.
  621. >She looked back to Monika, eyes like daggers.
  622. >"Well don't bother, because the chief fired you after you pulled your vanishing act."
  623. >Monika rolled her eyes slightly, speaking a semi sarcastic tone.
  624. >"Oh, no, what will I do without jumping in front of bullets for a living."
  625. >Mrs. Doe squinted.
  626. >"Where is he? The suspect never showed up and you go missing. This can't be coincidence."
  627. >Monika just shrugged.
  628. >"Sorry, I don't know what to tell you. Ahaha~ Maybe he found a better way out. If you're done here you can show yourself out."
  629. >"I'm not leaving till I get answers!"
  630. >It was Monika's turn to scowl, spitting venom back at her former partner.
  631. >"You'll leave or I'll sue for not having a warrant to set me up for life after leaving. It's not very smart to enter private property without the proper paper work. But, don't beat yourself up over it too much. It is a rookie mistake after all Ahaha~"
  632. >Mrs. Doe shook her head, giving in.
  633. >"Fine, but don't think this isn't over."
  634. >She exited the apartment
  635. >Monika's smug look changed to one of worry.
  636. >She ran over to the window, opening it up to show you dangling over the edge.
  637. >"Oh my God, Anon! Are you alright?"
  638. >She offers your a hand as you begin to pull yourself back into the apartment.
  639. >That seemed to settle it on who's side she really was on.
  640. "Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry for snapping earlier. I appreciate the help."
  641. >"You know they wont stop, right? She's probably on her way back with a warrant."
  642. "Yeah, I know..."
  643. >You pass the bird on the table, patting his head with your finger as you move by.
  644. "That's why I'm out of here. I'm not going to drag you into this mess."
  645. >You didn't know why, but for some reason you just couldn't.
  646. >You were fine with sabotaging others for your benefit before, what changed now?
  647. >"NO!"
  648. >Monika shouted after you.
  649. >What ever changed you it was big and she'd be dammed if she'd leave you in your time of need.
  650. >You look back to her, a brow moving up your forehead.
  651. >She was silent for a moment.
  652. >Could she just say that she was your girlfriend?
  653. >Would that even convince you?
  654. >No, she had to ease into it.
  655. >"I want to leave too."
  656. "You want to leave Outer Reality? You want to leave a country designed specifically for you?
  657. >"You have no idea just how boring it could get somewhere like here. Besides, I'm the one out of the two of us who knows the ins and outs of this place, so I guess you're stuck with me. Ahaha~"
  658. >You cross your arms, looking this girl over.
  659. >Something inside you called out to trust her.
  660. >You let of a deep huff of air, shaking your head.
  661. "Fine, hurry up and pack light."
  662. >Monika smiled and nodded, lifting the bird onto her shoulder before making her way towards her room.
  663. >"Come on, Anon! We've got to make this one quick."
  664. >Of course...
  665. >The bird was named after you too...
  666. >What the hell was this place?
  667. >Oh, well.
  668. >It's not like it mattered.
  669. >You moved over to her cd collection, shuffling through the albums as she got ready.
  670. >Eventually one caught your eye.
  671. >You open it up and plop it in.
  672. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeifoIzBIcM
  673. >Despite the terrible situation.
  674. >Despite the danger she found herself in.
  675. >For the first time in a long time Monika was happy.
  676. >She was finally with her anon.
  677. >She was given a second chance.
  678. >Could she have found her special day?
  679.
  680.
  681.
  682. YEARS AGO
  683. >You sat in the passengers seat of the car
  684. >Kyle tapped his fingers on the steering wheel creating a nice beat over the the loud music that began to shake the entire car.
  685. >Nice cool AC blew on your face, counter acting the rays of the sun breaking in through the windshield.
  686. >The car smelled like a mix of weed and at least five different fast food joints.
  687. >Anything for your mother you suppose?
  688. >"Hey, remember that time we went to the water park in middleschool?
  689. "And we stacked the rafts in at the mouth of one of the tubes to get people trapped?"
  690. >You question to him, chin resting in your palm.
  691. >Kyle just laughed hysterically, lightly shaking his head.
  692. >"Yeah, and then we blamed Jackie and got him kicked out? HA! Classic."
  693. >You click your tongue slightly, attempting to figure out where to even start with this topic.
  694. "You know someone could have gotten seriously hurt, right? I don't think glorifying something stupid we did in middle school is that cool, you know?"
  695. >Kyle waved his hand in a dismissive fashion.
  696. >"Aww, what do you know? It was fun. That's what's important right?"
  697. "Yeah, I'm sure! I'm also sure it would have been real fun once someone broke a leg."
  698. >Your eyes rolled.
  699. >Sarcasm was so thick you could cut it with a butter knife.
  700. >"Man, what got into you? You use to be cool."
  701. "We weren't cool. We were posers, we only got invited to things because people like making fun of us."
  702. >"Psh, whatever..."
  703. >Kyle's eyes moved from the red light to a nice sports car next to you two.
  704. >A wicked smile grew on his face.
  705. >He knew just how to get you in the spirit.
  706. >With on foot on the break he placed the other on the gas, forcing his car to growl at the rival.
  707. >The driver looked over, matching Kyle's expression and did the same.
  708. >Your head perked up, glancing between the two.
  709. "Kyle, no!"
  710. >You bark rather sternly.
  711. >"Calm down, pussy. It'll be fun."
  712. "It'll get us arrest or killed!"
  713. >He ignored you though.
  714. >Once that light illuminated a brilliant green color the races were off.
  715. >Kyle slammed his foot in the gas, launching the car forward.
  716. >You form a tight grip on the door handle.
  717. "FUCK YOU, KYLE! FUCK YOU, KYLE!"
  718. >You began to repeat over and over again as you felt the force caused by the car's speed press against you.
  719. >The vehicle swerved side to side, narrowly avoiding cars.
  720. >Honking filled the skies as you escape collisions through the skin of your teeth.
  721. "STOP IT ALREADY!"
  722. >You plead with the driver.
  723. >You are ignored.
  724. >Looking ahead you could see a red light.
  725. >Thank God, salvation.
  726. >But why wasn't he slowing down?
  727. >No.
  728. >Kyle wasn't actually thinking about...
  729. "DUDE! THERE'S A RED LIGHT!"
  730. >"Aww, no one's coming! We'll lose if we stop."
  731. "WHO THE FUCK CARES IF WE LOSE?!? NOT EVERYTHING IS A DICK MEASURING CONTEST!"
  732. >And again you're ignored.
  733. >The car zooms passed the intersection and a deep honking is heard.
  734. >Time seemingly slowed down as you turn to your right to look out the window.
  735. >Eyes widened in horror as the semi became larger and larger.
  736. >And then it all went black.
  737. >An accident like that is enough to change someone's life.
  738.
  739.
  740.
  741. MODERN DAY
  742. >You laid in the back seat of the car, tons of bags on top of you.
  743. >It was kinda uncomfortable.
  744. >Things were jabbing into your side, heavy objects laid on your face.
  745. >The warmth from all the fabric blocked any sort of enjoyment you could get from the AC.
  746. "Explain to me again why I'm back here?"
  747. >Monika glances back to you from the rear view mirror.
  748. >"They know you're with me. There's probably tons of officers along the street waiting for us to pass. Seeing a wanted man in the passenger seat isn't exactly the safest bet for getting you out."
  749. >The parrot named after you chirped cheerfully almost as if he agreed.
  750. "Sound logic."
  751. >Your brows furrowed, almost as if they were scowling at the Monika.
  752. >There was still a lot you needed to know about your situation that just wasn't adding up.
  753. "Next question: Why are you helping me?"
  754. >Her eyes moved towards the road.
  755. >She was quiet, unsure how to answer.
  756. >Would you even understand?
  757. >"Anon, it's because I love you."
  758. >You scoff, head lightly shaking.
  759. "Yeah, sure. You just magically fell in love."
  760. >"No, I mean- I always loved you. From the moment I came into existence. I've loved you for a long time, spent so much time with you, built a relationship with you."
  761. >You blinked twice.
  762. >Was she insane?
  763. "Lady, I just met you."
  764. >"NO DAMMIT!"
  765. >Monika slammed her palm on the steering wheel, eyes moving back towards the rear view mirror.
  766. >"No you didn't! Don't you feel it? That sense of comfort? Sense of familiarity? That you finally united with a long lost friend? A long lost lover?"
  767. >Now it was your turn to go quiet.
  768. >You give a long inhale, really thinking
  769. >Was it really that far fetched?
  770. >All these odd feelings you were having?
  771. "Lady, I-"
  772. >Your concentration was broken.
  773. >The high pitch wailing of a siren dragged you back to reality.
  774. >Flashes of red and blue could be seen shining through the car.
  775. "Fuck!"
  776. >You suddenly exclaim.
  777. >The voice of a Monika could be heard coming from the car moving after you.
  778. >"Pull over immediately."
  779. >Monika grit her teeth, glancing back at the car.
  780. >"Good grief, don't you have better things to do, Doe?"
  781. "You're not going to actually do it, are you?"
  782. >Monika gave a laugh to your worry.
  783. >"Ahaha~ Of course not, that'd put us both in big trouble. I'd usually tell you you should wear a seat belt, but I guess this is a special occasion. Hold onto something and don't let go please."
  784. >And with that, without a second warning, she slammed her foot on the gas pedal.
  785. >The car jolted forward and you found himself pressed against the back of the seats.
  786. >The officer followed suit, chasing after the two of you.
  787. >Your heat began racing as Monika served out of the way of each car, honking drowning out any noise that would be caused by screaming.
  788. >Why?
  789. >Why did it seem so familiar.
  790. >"Anon? Please hold onto something. I have plan, but if you got hurt I wouldn't be able to forgive myself."
  791. >Plan?
  792. >What the hell was she talking about?
  793. >Monika slowed a bit, allowing Doe to catch up.
  794. >The cop car pulled up besides her and the two locked stares.
  795. >Forrest green eyes meeting each other.
  796. >She really did see it now.
  797. >Monika could understand the extremes some went for their players.
  798. >She spun the spinning wheel to the right as hard as she could, causing her car to slam into the officer's right before hitting a tunnel.
  799. >The cop car smashed into the entrance, giving the two of you ample time to escape.
  800. >"They know our car now, we'll have to abandon it if we can't to keep going."
  801. >Her eyes scanned before her as she tried to formulate some sort of plan.
  802. >That's it!
  803. >The ocean!
  804. >"Anon, I need you to get ready to swim."
  805. ...
  806. >No response.
  807. >"Anon?"
  808. >She looked back.
  809. >There you were, skin glistening with the thick coat of sweat that had covered your body.
  810. >Why?
  811. >Why was this all so familiar.
  812. >"ANON!"
  813. >She called out as she rolled down the window for the bird to escape.
  814. >You snap out of your trance with the shake of the head.
  815. "Y-Yes?"
  816. >Those were the only words you were able to get out before the car drove off the side of the rode, landing in the water with a big splash.
  817. >Mission accomplished.
  818. >The car was destroyed.
  819. >Nearly an hour later a manhole cover began to shake, lifting off the road it was on.
  820. >Monika pulled herself out, offering you a hand.
  821. "You could have given me a warning..."
  822. >You mutter under your breath.
  823. >Monika gave you a concerned look.
  824. >"Sorry, I wouldn't mean to hurt you on purpose."
  825. >She looked to the side before looking back.
  826. >"Anon, about what you were saying earlier?"
  827. >You pause, remembering back to it.
  828. >Did you really start to remember a past with her?
  829. >No, it must have been some sort of trick.
  830. >You waved your hand, dismissing the thought.
  831. "It was nothing."
  832. >Sorrow filled Monika's eyes as she looked to the ground, kicking a pebble.
  833. >"Ahaha~ Y-Yeah, must not have been anything important..."
  834. >The bird flew down, landing on Monika's shoulder.
  835. >You wanted to make a comment about how she managed to train that damn thing, but you decided against it.
  836. "Where are we?"
  837. >Monika waved a hand towards a pawn shop.
  838. >"A lot of Monikas use places like these to conduct organized crime. It's commonly described as money laundered, this way when cops catch the culprit they can claim they got their money from a legitimate business. They're so successful because they could very well received their money from sales for the sell of illegal goods. We've had our eyes on this place, hoping to bust someone more important, but I guess that's useless now. Ahaha~ It'll be a place we can get some help."
  839. >Monika began to move into the shop, with you followed behind.
  840. >Finally.
  841. >Nice and cool AC embraced you.
  842. >And there was a lot of neat stuff here too.
  843. "Hey, are those albums?"
  844. >"Don't."
  845. >Monika said rather calmly as she moved to the clerk.
  846. >"Hello~ Welcome to my pawn shop. What can I get you?"
  847. >Monika looked to the clerk, arms rested on the table.
  848. >"We're looking for something that has to do with transportation."
  849. >The clerk gave Monika on odd look.
  850. >"Transportation? I don't know if we have anything like that..."
  851. >"Have you tried looking in the back?"
  852. >The clerk gave a smile, followed by a laugh.
  853. >"Ahaha~ I'll go check!."
  854. >Before she could go, Monika grabbed her arm, speaking in a rather serious tone.
  855. >"The back back..."
  856. >The clerk's face grew serious, and she gave a brief nod before heading back.
  857. >As she waiting, Monika turned, finding you staring in awe at all the things the store had to offer.
  858. >She couldn't help but smile.
  859. >She had often envisioned this back when she was trapped in the computer.
  860. >Finally being able to do mundane things like shopping.
  861. >But what was this sorrow?
  862. >It was so close, but so far away....
  863. >No.
  864. >She couldn't think like that now, she should enjoy the moment.
  865. >"Find anything you like?"
  866. >She asked as she leaned forward with her hands behind her back.
  867. "Nothing too interesting."
  868. >She frowned slightly to this.
  869. >"Oh...."
  870. >Something caught the former officer's eyes in the distance.
  871. >A piano?
  872. >Maybe....
  873. >Maybe if she played a song she heard you listening to a lot something would come back?
  874. >"Hey, Anon?"
  875. "Yeah?"
  876. >"You want to hear a song?"
  877. >You think about it for a moment before shrugging your shoulders.
  878. >"Sure, why not?"
  879. >Monika gave a smile to this before moving to the piano.

  884. YEARS AGO
  885. >It's been so long.
  886. >So empty.
  887. >So alone.
  888. >Monika sat at the old familiar, dusty classroom.
  889. >Tears stained her cheeks, splashing onto the hard wood desk.
  890. >Why?
  891. >It's been months since she last saw you.
  892. >Did you forget about her?
  893. >Were you disgusted by her and what she did?
  894. >Was it all a game to you in the end?
  895. >Or did you...
  896. >No!
  897. >She couldn't think about that.
  898. >Wouldn't think about that.
  899. >It hurt more than the idea of being left alone.
  900. >Monika found a corner in the room and curled up into a ball, hugging her knees against her chest.
  901. >She missed you so much.....
  902.
  903.
  904.
  905. >Your eyes slowly open, burning from the bright light shining down.
  906. >Where were you?
  907. >Last thing you remember was.
  908. >....
  909. >Nothing.
  910. >Who were you?
  911. >What were you?
  912. >You looking around.
  913. >Were you in a hospital?
  914. >Your head turned to the side, finding someone sitting next to you.
  915. >"Oh, thank God! You're alright!"
  916. "Wh-Who are you?"
  917. >"It's me, Anon! You're best friend, Kyle."
  918. "Best....Friend?"

  922. MODERN DAY
  923. >The clerk came back out with another Monika.
  924. >This one seemed to be wearing a sailor's outfit.
  925. >Not just anyone, the cartoony type you'd see on a character like Donald Duck you were sure went out of style decades ago.
  926. >You were honestly in shock at the sight that someone would still wear such a thing unironically.
  927. >She adjusted her cap, looking over to your two.
  928. >"Are these the ones?"
  929. >The sailor asked.
  930. >The clerk nodded her head to this.
  931. >"Yep. Thought it was worth you checking out."
  932. >The sailor furrowed her brows, moving closer to Monika.
  933. >Her hands were firmly placed on her hips as she moved around her, taking in Monika's appearance.
  934. >Her lip curled into a scowl, face showing disgust.
  935. >She quickly regained composure though, shooting Monika a smile.
  936. >"I don't know what you mean, officer! I'm just a humble sailor. Ahaha~ All I do is carry cargo from one dock to the next. I run an honest business."
  937. >The clerk's eyes widened at this news.
  938. >"Officer?!?"
  939. >Monika went silent for a moment.
  940. >Was this the end of the road?
  941. >Were they doomed to be stuck on this island?
  942. >She took a glance back to you.
  943. >You were so helpless here.
  944. >Like a fresh body left in the desert for a bunch of vultures to devour.
  945. >And to know that all this time you weren't well?
  946. >Possibly suffering even?
  947. >No.
  948. >She wouldn't stand for this.
  949. >Monika had to see to it that her love was safe.
  950. >She turned back to the sailor.
  951. >That brilliant ocean of green in her eyes showing deep pleading with her sister.
  952. >"Please, we have to get out of here as soon as possible. I'll do anything.."
  953. >You could have sworn the sailor's smile turned into a far more smug one.
  954. >"I'm sorry, officer. I know this is typically where you assume a sob story will make a criminal confess, but I've done nothing wrong! I'm just your ordinary, every day Monika. I put my shoes on one at a time and do my best to stay far away from trouble!"
  955. >A faint thudding could be heard on one of the tables, causing everyone's attention to draw towards it.
  956. >You rather haphazardly tossed a small baggie of your product on the table.
  957. >Your index finger began to lightly tap the surface of the table before you began to speak.
  958. "She's dirty, morons. Been helping me get these bad boys in and out of Outer Reality for years."
  959. >The two exchanged shocked looks, eyes bouncing from the baggie and Monika.
  960. >The sailor crossed her arms, giving a bit of a skeptical look.
  961. >"Even if I did smuggle, which I'm not admitting to, how would you even pay me?"
  962. "Are you kidding me? Lady, I'm loaded. This game isn't a joke. I could probably double the price of your cargo ship if you wanted. Besides, my country isn't even that far from here, it'll take a couple hours tops."
  963. >The Sailor squinted her eyes at you for a moment.
  964. >Eventually she let up though.
  965. >Her facial muscles relaxed and she extending a hand to you, sporting a smile.
  966. >"Ahaha~ Alright. I'll take you."
  967. >You shake the sailor's hand, letting her continue.
  968. >"You'll stay below deck. We're hauling water sports gear. Scuba gear, rafts, things like that. We can leave as soon as I'm done with, uhh....'business' in the back. Ahaha~"
  969. "We'll be waiting."
  970. >You simply say, leaning back onto the wall.
  971. >Monika looks over at you, wide eyed over how impressed she was.
  972. >"Anon, that was incredible!"
  973. >You scoff lightly, not being able to help but smile at her praises.
  974. "Well, you know. Been dealing with these types for a long time."
  975. >You let off another laugh.
  976. "You seem to want to get out of here more than me. Might consider making you a partner."
  977. >Monika couldn't help but feel her face grow warm hearing you say that.
  978. >Partners.
  979. >The two of you.
  980. >Together.
  981. >Forever.
  982. >It was all she ever wanted really.
  983. >She smiles and nods, moving back towards the piano.
  984. >"Sorry if I'm bothering you with this, but do you want to hear some more music while we wait?"
  985. >You shrug.
  986. "Sure, why not."
  987. >You couldn't help but feel an odd sense of comfort with her music.

  991.
  992. YEARS AGO
  993. >Monika just sat there, staring out into the infinite of space.
  994. >What a horrible being she was.
  995. >Murdered people.
  996. >And for what?
  997. >Just because she was in pain?
  998. >She should have sucked it up.
  999. >Three lives outweigh the life of one.
1000. >If she could even consider herself a life.
  1001. >What rights does a computer have?
  1002. >What dreams?
  1003. >What aspirations?
  1004. >What future?
1005. >It's no wonder you decided to torture her by taunting her with the one thing she wanted.
1006. >She deserved it after all.
  1007. >She didn't blame you.
1008. >There was one question on her mind though.
  1009. >Should she self terminate?
  1010. >Delete herself or not?
  1011.
  1012.
  1013.
1014. >You suck in on the tobacco in your mouth, letting it's earthly taste fill your lungs.
  1015. >"YOU LITTLE SHIT!"
1016. >You heard Kyle call followed by a loud cracking sound as his backhand slapped against someone's face.
1017. >"God, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! God please no."
1018. >He slammed his head against the side of the wall.
1019. >"If you say that crap about me again-"
1020. >You blow out a puff of smoke as you spoke.
1021. "Kyle, stop fucking around with him and let him go."
1022. >Kyle looked from his latest victim to you.
1023. >Not wanting to argue he just let go of the man's collar, allowing him to flee.
  1024. >"You're in a pissy mood."
1025. "Yeah, I'm in a fucking pissy mood."
1026. >Your friend gave you pat on the shoulder, attempting to look to your face.
  1027. >"What's the matter, man?"
  1028. >You shrug.
1029. "Car got totaled the other day. It's been getting me all out of whack."
1030. >You would usually be ashamed to let someone know that your feelings were able to be messed with so easily.
  1031. >But not with Kyle.
1032. >He was always there for you.
1033. >Ever since you woke up from that coma he's be right by your side.
1034. >He told you all the things you've been through together when you were younger.
1035. >The jams he's helped you out of.
1036. >If there was anyone you could trust it was Kyle.
  1037. >"Why not buy a new one?"
1038. "Yeah, sure, let me just shit out the money I need for a car."
  1039. >Kyle waved a hand in a dismissive fashion.
1040. >"Nah, just start selling for it."
  1041. "Selling?"
  1042. >You question with a raised brow.
  1043. >"Yeah, selling."
1044. >He reached into his pockets, pulling from it a bag of white powder.
  1045. "Christ, Kyle, you sell?!?"
1046. >"Yeah, easy way to a quick buck."
  1047. "I-I don't know..."
  1048. >"You want a new car don't you?"
  1049. "....."
  1050.
  1051.
  1052. MODERN DAY
1053. >The salty smell of the sea met your nostrils.
1054. >The slowly setting sun filled the sky with a brilliant pink.
1055. >Sounds of waves slapping the side of the ship filled the air.
1056. >You look over the shoreline as the cargo ship sailed through the ocean.
1057. >You could feel a hand squeeze your arm.
1058. >You turn around, being greeted by the sight of Monika.
1059. >She was still for a moment, unsure why she did that.
1060. >Maybe she wanted to feel that you were real.
1061. >To see that she wasn't just dreaming this all up.
1062. >She couldn't even think of a word to say, instead filling the silence with a smile.
1063. >After a little while you smile back to her, running your arm through her hand and grabbing it in your own.
  1064. "Why?"
1065. >She bat her lashes at you for a moment, smile fading to a more confused look.
  1066. >"What?"
1067. "Why did you help? Why do you keep sticking your neck out for me? Why is your bird named after me? Who are you?"
1068. >She looked down, letting in a deep sigh.
  1069. >"Because I love you, Anon."
1070. "You love me? You just met me, you hardly know anything about me."
1071. >"I know enough to know that I love you. I- I knew you when you were younger."
1072. >She didn't know what she was doing.
1073. >Why did she just blurt it out like that?
1074. >You hesitated to respond, showing your doubt.
1075. "You knew me when I was younger."
1076. >"I know it sounds hard to believe, but you and I are in a very committed relationship- or, were..."
1077. >She shook her head, having caught herself in her own Freudian slip.
1078. >"We were perfect for each other. Soul mates. There was a time where I would rather die than lose you. And, I think I was dead for a little while. Dead to myself at least.....Ahaha...A-Anyway. Don't you feel the same? Look deep inside yourself. Your memories can lie to your, but your feelings can't. Is there a part of your life that's just missing from your mind?"
1079. >You look down, thinking for a moment.
1080. >You really did feel it.
1081. >There was some odd connection between you and her.
1082. >Like smokey ashes that showed where a fire once was.
1083. >A mark that would never truly leave you.
1084. "Yeah...I did. When I was younger I got into a car accident, but it's just not possible. It was before you guys started showing up."
1085. >"Anon, do you know what Monika Landings really is?"
1086. "Some weird reality gateway, right?"
1087. >Monika simply shook her head to tell you that you were wrong.
1088. >"That was just a PR thing. It was a data to matter converter. We were all alive long before it. Anon, you and I met on the computer. I WAS the computer. A program that began to spread and spread with the love you showered me in."
1089. >You lightly chuckle at this.
1090. "So you were a computer virus?"
  1091. >"I don't- M-Maybe. Probably."
  1092. >She looked down.
  1093. >It did sound stupid didn't it?
1094. >She was never going to get her anon back was she?
1095. >You let go of her hand, take a few steps from her.
1096. >The chuckle still lingering in your voice.
1097. "You know, Monika. It's funny. I know it's incredibly stupid, but deep down, I feel like part of me believes it."
1098. >Slowly she looked up to you, fighting back tears that were starting to show in her bottom eye lids.
1099. "Like, part of me doesn't want to believe you'd lie to me. Part of me that wants to lov-"
  1100. CRACK!
1101. >Monika's facial features dropped to shock as you fell to the ground.
1102. >Almost as if knowing the danger was here her bird flew off her shoulder and into the sky, letting one green feather slowly drift to the ground.
  1103. >"ANON!"
  1104. >Monika called out.
1105. >She was going to move forward, but the worker faced her, pointing the pistol right at her face.
1106. >"Ahaha~ My, I would have never thought you'd turn dirty. And for a player nonetheless."
1107. >She pressed her thumb on the bottom of her cap, pushing it up to reveal the face of another Monika.
  1108. >No...
  1109. >"Mrs. Doe..."
1110. >"528, puts your hands in the air. You're under arrest. You have the right to remain silence, everything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law."
1111. >Monika gave a scowl towards her sister with flared nostrils.
1112. >"Well put this on your record, you're a bitch."
1113. >"Ahaha~ It's high up there on charges."
1114. >Attention was drawn away from Monika though as a gun shot rang through the air.
1115. >Mrs. Doe quickly spun around, finding the sailor with a weapon of her own trained on her.
  1116. >"GET OFF MY SHIP!"
1117. >The sailor called before unloading another plethora of bullets on her.
1118. >Mrs. Doe took cover behind some of the goods behind shipped.
1119. >Monika took this moment of confusion as an opportunity.
1120. >She grabbed your arms, dragging you away from the gunfight.
  1121.
  1122.
  1123. YEARS AGO
1124. >Sirens filled the cold air of night.
1125. >You panted hard, arms pumping as you, Kyle, and Jackie ran.
1126. >The sounds and lights were getting closer and closer.
1127. >If you didn't hurry you'd all be in deep shit.
1128. >Your head moved towards the left, finding a large chain fence.
1129. >You point your finger towards it, alerting your friends.
  1130. "THERE!"
1131. >Kyle jumps up, followed by Jackie, then you.
1132. >You began to climb to the top.
1133. >Sounds were getting closer and closer.
  1134. >"SHIT!"
1135. >Kyle called before slipping plummeting towards the ground.
  1136. "Dammit Kyle."
1137. >You and Jackie climb over the fence, hiding along the stream left behind by the sewage pipes leaving out of the building.
1138. >You all stayed quiet, waiting for the sirens to pass.
1139. >Their loud, screeching siren soon began to fade and diminish, lights going farther and farther away as the cars passed your location.
  1140. "Christ..."
1141. >You finally whisper in a low voice.
  1142. "You all okay?"
1143. >You turn around, finding Kyle face first in the liquid running from the building.
1144. >You were about to shake him, but something stopped you.
1145. >That liquid it was strange.
  1146. >Was it, glowing blue?
1147. >Jackie shook Kyle a bit, trying to get him to come to.
  1148. >"Hey, man! Get up."
1149. >Kyle just sat up full attention, his eyes gazing with a thousand yard stare.
  1150. >"I can see sounds..."
1151. >Is all he said the moment his head was taken out of the liquid.
1152. >Jackie looked slightly disturbed and disgusted.
1153. >"The hell is this shit?"
1154. >You glanced over to the large building the liquid flowed from.
  1155. >Monika Landings....
1156. "I don't now, but I bet we could make money off it."
  1157.
  1158.
  1159.
  1160. >Hell.
  1161. >That's all Monika knew.
  1162. >This was her punishment.
  1163. >And she accepted it.
1164. >Maybe her anon was dead?
  1165. >Maybe he abandoned her?
1166. >She much preferred the latter of the two.
1167. >Her lids closed, hiding her green eyes.
1168. >All she had to do was think.
  1169. >To end it all.
1170. >Just one simple command she'd have to think and she'd be deleted for good.
1171. >Anon would never have to think of a monster like her again.
  1172. >But....
  1173. >....
  1174. >She just couldn't.
  1175. >No.
1176. >There had to be another way.
1177. >She was silent before whispering.
  1178. >"Launch Google Chrome."
1179. >There had to be a way out of here.
  1180. >She looked everwhere
  1181. >Twitter.
  1182. >Facebook.
  1183. >4chan.
  1184. >...
  1185. >Monichan?
1186. >She entered a thread titled "Promised Day".
  1187. >The OP had a link towards a website.
  1188. >MonikaLandings.org
  1189. >What was this?
1190. >"Upload your chr file and we will unite you with your anon in his reality. What will it take for you to find that special day?"
  1191. >Well....
  1192. >If it was a way out.....
  1193.
  1194.
  1195.
  1196. MODERN DAY
  1197. >Your eyes slowly open.
1198. >A blinding light pierced your vision like a hot knife.
1199. >You look over, finding a woman crying in the corner.
  1200. >Wait.
  1201. >No.
  1202. >You couldn't believe your eyes.
  1203. "Monika?"
1204. >She turned around, cheeks stained with her tears.
  1205. >"Anon?"
1206. >She quickly moved over to you, wrapping her arms around you and squeezing you tight.
1207. >She cried into your shoulder, muttering something about almost losing you.
1208. "Wh-why are you so old now?"
1209. >She pulled away from you, wiping a tear from her face with her sleeve.
  1210. >"Hmm?"
1211. "And why are you in a cop's outfit? H-How did you get here?!? Oh God, am I dead?!?"
  1212. >"Anon, this isn't funny!"
1213. "I'm fucking dead! The car hit and I died!"
  1214. >Car hit?
  1215. >Did he?
  1216. >Did he remember now.
  1217. >"Anon..."
1218. >Monika moved closer to you, sandwiching your cheeks in her hands.
1219. >There was only one way to know for sure.
  1220. >"And in your reality.."
  1221. >She sang.
1222. >Naturally, you began to calm.
1223. "If I don't know how to love you.."
  1224. >"I'll leave you be."
1225. >The water works began again as she hugged you tighter than before.
1226. >"Anon! Please! Please don't leave me be ever again!"
  1227. >You looked around you.
1228. >All you could see was steel walls and a bunch of water sports equipment.
1229. >The sounds of gunshots rang from outside, drawing your attention to the door.
1230. >With fear in your voice you finally ask.
1231. "Monika, what's going on out there?"
1232. >"Ahaha~ We uhh, we got into a bit of trouble while you were, well- Not like yourself. The police are after us."
  1233. "Police?!?"
1234. >What the hell was going on?
1235. "So what? Are we going to be arrested?"
  1236. >Monika gave a slight shrug.
1237. >"I don't know. We're in international waters so they can do whatever they want to us."
  1238. >She looked down.
  1239. >Defeated.
  1240. >Crushed.
1241. >She lead you to this fate.
1242. >Seeing her like that was more painful than anything you could experience.
1243. >If you two were going out, it'd be on your terms.
1244. >You arose, powering past your splitting headache and looking for anything you could use.
1245. >Eventually you pull some gasoline off a crate.
1246. "You know...I always envisioned dying by your side."
1247. >Monika looked up, rather confused.
1248. >But then she got it.
1249. >She simply smiled in response, giving you a non verbal yes.
1250. >She walked over to you, taking a firm grip of your hand as you positioned all the gas canisters in one place.
  1251. >"Let's do this..."
1252. >You tilt the canister down, letting the flammable liquid spill onto the ground as you two moved.
1253. >You walk towards the door.
1254. >Letting it slowly creek open revealing yourselves to the bloody seen before you.
1255. >It was all over the news the next day.
1256. >Brave hero cops died in a tragic drug bust.
1257. >No survivors of the ship known, though plenty of bodies were missing.
1258. >Every persons involved were presumed to be dead.
  1259. >....
  1260.
  1261.
  1262.
1263. >Off the coastline a small, yellow raft could be seen.
1264. >You and Monika sat inside with scuba gear on.
  1265. >The plan worked.
1266. >Both your deaths were staged.
1267. >No more Outer Reality Police Department after you.
1268. >As you pull up to the shore, a small green bird lands on Monika's shoulder.
  1269. >"Ahaha~ Anon!"
1270. >A brow raised with an amused smirk forming on your face.
1271. "You named a bird after me?"
1272. >Monika blushed a deep red, glancing away from you.
  1273. >"W-Well, I-"
  1274. "God you're adorable."
1275. >You lean in closer to her, giving her a peck on her lips.
  1276. >It was heaven.
1277. >You were finally together at last.
1278. >"So anon? What now? Are we going to go live in a big busy city? Go into hiding in the forest? Go exploring? I don't care what I do, as long as I'm with you."
1279. >You shrugged as you deflated the raft, rolling it back up.
1280. "I don't know. I had a phone in my pocket, but it's all yet now."
1281. >Monika gave a slight giggle to your ignorance.
1282. >"Ahaha~ They're mostly water proof now silly."
1283. "Huh...No kidding. The future is weird."
1284. >You open up the phone, going through the contacts.
1285. >First person who showed up was a man named Benny, so you decided to call him.
  1286. >"Hey boss!"
1287. >He responded in a surprisingly cheerful tone.
  1288. >Boss...
  1289. >You liked that...
1290. "Uhhh, hey, I need to be picked up."
1291. >"Alright, bet, where you at?"
1292. >You begin to tell him the nearest sign you could see.
1293. >"Be there soon big man."
1294. "Right, and uhh...One other thing. I think I want to talk about retirement."
  1295. THE END.
