  1. “You’ve got to be kidding me...”
  2. >”Oh no, that must be the pack leader...”
  3. >A large towering timber wolf king forces its way through the woods with its glowing eyes fixed on you and the pony behind you
  4. >”It’s probably here for revenge for getting its pack killed Anon, we need to run away”
  5. >Daylily takes a step but suddenly slips and winces as her hoof slips
  6. >”My hoof!”
  7. >The beast instantly glares and starts running towards the two of you at high speed
  8. “You need to get up!”
  9. >Daylily gets up and tries to put some weight on her hoof, but instantly lifts it off the ground and winces
  10. >You quickly pull out your Swiss army knife and throw it at the beast after you open up the knife blade
  11. “Taste the sting of my mighty ex-“
  12. >It hits the timber wolf’s face handle first and bounces off without doing anything
  13. “Or don’t that’s cool giddy up Daylily!”
  14. >You quickly grab the pony and start running with her slung over your shoulder while the timber wolf king rushes in hot pursuit
  15. >Thankfully the woods near the cave exit is pretty dense and the timber wolf has trouble keeping up as it has to smash through the woods
  16. >Good thing too or else it would have gobbled you two up already
  17. >”It’s starting to gain on us Anon!”
  18. >You hop over a branch and keep Daylily from falling off by steadying her by her butt
  19. >Daylily lets out an “eep” at the sudden butt touch but you keep touching the butt because otherwise she’d fall off your shoulder
  20. “Any idea where we are and where I should head!?”
  21. >You’re running on fumes here, a can of pears is not the perfect fuel for escaping bloodthirsty Equestrian beasts of massive wood, you can’t do it for a very long time
  22. >Honestly speaking your legs are aching and screaming at you to stop already
  23. >”I don’t know! I can’t recognize this area at all!”
  24. >You glance at the plot device next to your head
  25. >But...you have to admit that this butt is rather pleasant to the touch now that you have gotten to put your hand-
  26. >And suddenly you’re falling
  27. >Did you really just run off a cliff because you were paying no attention to where you were going and instead at some pony booty
  28. >And while being chased by a bloodthirsty angry beast? That’s just...you’ll just blame it on not getting enough sleep
  29. >”SCREEEEEE!”
  30. “AAAAAAA!”
  31. >Suddenly Daylily grabs onto you with all three of her functional hooves and starts to flap both of her wings with a pained expression on her face
  32. >She does not fly, but the speed at which you and her are falling slows down considerably before you safely touch down on the ground
  33. >Daylily on the other hand falls straight to the ground after she stops flapping her wings and trembles there while biting her teeth’s together like she was in immense pain
  34. “Are you ok?”
  35. >Daylily keeps her eyes shut and lies there
  36. >”It hurts so bad I think I can’t move”
  37. >You pet her head
  38. “You did great, we’re saved thanks to that”
  39. >Daylily finally opens her eyes and looks at you while giving you a pained smile
  40. >”You better appreciate it you blind human”
  41. >You look back up at the ledge where the timber wolf is
  42. “I think we even managed to buy some time with this accident”
  43. >But suddenly the timber wolf king jumps down the ledge and hits the ground with the lower half of its body splitting into the singular pieces of timber that it is made of
  44. “No fucking way...”
  45. >The now half of a timber wolf starts to drag its body along the ground towards you as the pieces that came off during the impact with the ground start to magically return to it and slowly reform the lower half of its body
  46. >You quickly pick Daylily up, into a more bride-like carrying position while trying to be as cautious of her hurt wing as possible in a situation like this, and bolt off with the muscles in your legs and arms burning towards the open areas on the left instead of running back into the dense woods on the right
  47. >Better to run where you can properly do so now that you are carrying the injured pony
  48. >”Anon there!”
  49. >Daylily points at a small hill where a large boulder sits looking like it could roll down any minute
  50. >”Let me limp forward and you get that rock down once the wolf is in place!”
  51. “But you’re hurt-“
  52. >”No buts, we’re going to do this!”
  53. >You let Daylily down and she starts limping while you take off to the rock
  54. >The timber wolf king pays no attention to you and goes after the limping pony while dragging itself along the ground with its massive wooden claws
  55. >You get to the position by the rock and Daylily turns around and waits for the beast to get into position
  56. >The last few pieces of its body fly to it and the beast is now fully formed and bears its teeth’s in a gleeful smile before slowly walking to Daylily, sure of its victory
  57. >”Anon now!”
  58. >You start pushing the rock with all your might but it does not budge
  59. >How can you do it, there’s no time to get a stick and use any leverage to get it to roll down...use your brain!
  60. >Yes, video game knowledge!
  61. >You start to punch the rock while pushing it like a certain video game character
  62. >”Anon!”
  63. >You can hear the beast let out a growl and instead of holding back to not get your hand hurt you start pounding at the rock with all your might in an adrenaline fueled rush
  64. >And miraculously the rock tilts over and rolls down the hill and slams into the body of the beast and not a moment too soon
  65. >You quickly look at your trembling fist and find it bleeding with skin rolled off of your knuckles and a pounding pain in your wrist
  66. >You try to open up your fist but find that you really can’t extend your fingers all the way
  67. >Time to run back to Daylily who’s eyeing what’s left of the timber wolf, a head missing the lower jaw and most of it’s upper body minus any limbs and the left shoulder
  68. >It turns its dagger glaring glowing eyes at you as you rush to Daylily who seems to be savoring the moment while staring at the dismembered timber wolf king
  69. “Should we escape or finish it off somehow?”
  70. >Suddenly its eyes start to shine brighter and there’s a glow escaping from deep within it past all the various pieces of wood its body composes of
  71. >It lets out an earsplitting roar and suddenly the pieces of it levitate into the air and rapidly fly back to it, building its body back together in mere seconds
  72. >This thing better not have played some college ball
  73. >And now the fully formed and whole timber wolf king stands before the two of you and raises its claw
  74. >”Look out!”
  75. >It swipes at you but Daylily manages to jump at you and push you over onto the ground and its claw barely misses the two of you
  76. >You quickly sit up while holding the pony but to your shock its claw is already coming at you
  77. >But by sheer dumb luck it hits the ground before you and ends up flinging you and Daylily into the air with some dirt
  78. >And suddenly it hits you and Daylily again, this time punching both of you and sending you flying backwards
  79. >If it did play ball it wasn’t at any cushy Ivy League school
  80. >The impact makes you loose your hold on Daylily and the two of you fly backwards separately
  81. >You hit the ground painfully and roll over a few times before quickly getting back up and looking around to see where your friend flew
  82. >Luckily you two were flung back in the dense woods so the timber wolf king is having trouble smashing through all the plants so it can get to the two of you
  83. “Daylily! Where are you!?”
  84. >You look around and suddenly spot a familiar colored thing lying on the ground before a tree trunk
  85. “Daylily?”
  86. >You quickly make your way to the pony while ignoring your now hurting shoulder and find her unconscious on the ground and bleeding from her head, but thankfully still breathing
  87. >But you don’t have any time to see to her injuries since the timber wolf has gotten pretty close already so you pick her up and start limping away
  88. >With carrying her and being hurt from getting bitch-slapped by the wolf you are wheezing like you had asthma as you try to keep away from the beast
  89. >Thank to whoever deity that’s got your back for how dense this forest is because it’s the only reason why the timber wolf has not gotten to you yet
  90. >But you’re panicked because you’re all out of ideas
  91. >You have no idea where you are and what to do, not to mention slowly but surely it’s getting closer to you with each look behind that you take
  92. >But then you pick up some sounds coming from somewhere close, they sound like...can it really be?
  93. >If it is what you think it is you’re one lucky bastard
  94. >You change course towards the sounds and with each step they become louder and fill you with hope
  95. >And soon enough you exit the woods and into an open area with a some ponies and gear next to cut down trees
  96. >A tree cutting area, filled with saws, axes and the like
  97. >A few earth ponies raise an eyebrow at you and start to come closer to you as you limp towards them
  98. “Back up there’s a timber wolf after me!”
  99. >And almost as if called the timber wolf jumps out from the woods towards you with its jaw gaping wide
  100. >You hit the deck and accidentally drop Daylily as you dodge the bite
  101. >Luckily the ground is mostly full of loose gravel so instead of coming to a halt near you the timber wolf slides forward and into the middle of the cutting area
  102. >”Are you two alright?”
  103. >One of the forest working earth pony lumberjacks has rushed to the two of you
  104. >”Oh my she’s hurt. Fudge Packer and Fairy Bear, help me carry her”
  105. >Two build earth ponies come to Daylily and pick her up while the first one turns his attention to you
  106. >”Do you need any help kind green troll?”
  107. >You’re not that ugly are you?
  108. “No just tend to Daylily please!”
  109. >”INCOMING!”
  110. >The yell of one of the earth ponies alerts you of the timber wolf who tries to rush to you but gets hit with an axe to the head which draws its attention to one of the many earth ponies now running around in a circle around the timber wolf and keeping it distracted
  111. >The earth pony who called the two over wipes some sweat off of his brow
  112. >”Phew. Thank you Flaming Fruit, you saved our sweet plots”
  113. >The one who threw the axe runs to another axe stuck in a tree
  114. >”No problem Oklahomo”
  115. >Wait is this pony’s name seriously-
  116. >”Do you have any idea how to slay this foul beast green? I’m afraid we can only distract it for so long”
  117. >Shouldn’t you...no, you honestly don’t think running away is an option anymore, you’ve seen how determined this massive wood is, it must be dealt with
  118. “I haven’t got the slightest clue...Oklahomo?”
  119. >Oklahomo nods
  120. >”That’s my name, don’t wear it out”
  121. >You could have sworn he mouthed the word sugarcube at you at the end of that sentence
  122. >But what to do, you look around and notice that they’re starting to run out of things to throw at the wolf
  123. >Suddenly one of the earth ponies gets flung at a tree
  124. >”Gym Queen!”
  125. >Oklahomo rushes to his fallen comrade while you look around
  126. >Wait, oil lamps! And what you need to fuel it...there, canisters!
  127. “Throw the burning oil at it!”
  128. >but as you pay attention to the wolf and the ponies you find that Oklahomo is currently helping Gym Queen and another pony to evacuate the area while only two ponies are left keeping the timber wolf king busy, and just barely
  129. “You two! What are your names!? I have a plan!”
  130. >The two earth ponies both look at you
  131. >”Ring Raider!”
  132. >”Pansy Poof!”
  133. “Ok Ring Raider, you go to that canister of burning oil near that pile of fallen trees and throw it at the wolf! Pansy Poof, you take the one on the right hand side and do the same! I’ll go to that canister over there! Try to get the oil onto it one way or the other!”
  134. >Both ponies nod and take off in opposite directions, making the wolf pause before choosing to go after Pansy Poof
  135. >You limp to your cans and try to get the canister to open, but with yoru hurt shoulder and arm it’s proving to be quite difficult
  136. >Not to mention there’s the question of how to-
  137. >Suddenly there’s the sound of glass breaking that draws your attention
  138. >Ring Raider seems to have filled one of the unused oil lamps full of the oil and flung it at the timber wolf
  139. >Not a bad idea, Pansy Poof also seems to think that way since he too starts to fill one of the oil lamps full of oil
  140. >You have to love cartoon logic as the oil stays in the lamp instead of leaking out, unless these are some seriously watertight oil lamps for heavy duty
  141. >Would not surprise you
  142. >Pansy Poof has now flung his oil at the wolf as well and it lets out a loud growl while trying to wipe the oil out from its eyes
  143. >You finally manage to open up the canister and pour it into the lamp before throwing it at the beasts backside
  144. >Ring Raider took this chance to run towards Pansy Poof and the two of them are running towards the area where the others ran away to and the beast gives chase, completely ignoring you
  145. “Hey assbutt!”
  146. >You grab a nearby lamp which has a fire burning in it as the wolf stops and turns around to face you
  147. >Just in time for the lamp to hit it on the nose and shatter
  148. >And the wolf suddenly explodes into flames
  149. >but it does not go down, instead it stands there while in bright flames and stares at you with burning rage
  150. >It starts to slowly stomp towards you while making all kinds of sounds as flaming pieces of wood keep falling off of it like it is disintegrating
  151. >And suddenly it lets out a desperate roar as the flames proof to be much more intense than it thought and it falls to the ground as almost all of the woods that make up its legs have become so scarce in timber that they can’t even properly move around
  152. >but with one final act of desperation it flings a large cut down tree at you that was lying on the ground near it, sending its flaming paw flying away with it as it could no longer stay attached to the beast
  153. >Time seems to move slow mo as you start to move away and the tree closes in on you at an alarming speed
  154. >And then it hits you as the beasts still somewhat intact face grins as the last of the timber wolf king becomes nothing but lifeless burning pieces of scrap wood on the ground
  155. >you can’t dodge it in time
  156. >And then everything goes black
  157.
  158.
  159. *Some time later...*
  160. >You’re standing in front of the small hospital at the outskirts of Manehattan at night with your bandaged friend looking at you
  161. >”Are you sure Anon?”
  162. >You nod
  163. “Yeah Daylily, I don’t think I am that cut out for the nocturnal lifestyle so I’m just going to stay behind and start a life in Manehattan”
  164. >Daylily offers you a smile
  165. >”I think you did pretty good on our adventure”
  166. >You chuckle a little
  167. “Thanks, but I seriously thought I died when I was knocked unconscious”
  168. >”Good thing that the ponies of the Jolly Gay Woodcutters Company brought us here as fast as possible or you could have very well been”
  169. >you awkwardly scratch your bandaged head
  170. “So what about you, still going to Hollow Shades like you planned?”
  171. >”Yeah, I’ll move back into the town, properly this time and not into some random shack and start over”
  172. >Daylily also has her head bandaged, and her other wing
  173. “So I guess this will be goodbye?”
  174. >Daylily looks at you for a brief moment before answering
  175. >”Yes, I think it is...”
  176. >And then there’s an awkward silence
  177. “If you ever do get lost in Manehattan you’re welcome to visit me any time”
  178. >Daylily nods and smiles
  179. >”You do the same if you ever get lost near Hollow Shades”
  180. “Thinking about trying to join the guard again?”
  181. >Daylily shrugs her shoulders
  182. >”It’s an option, but so far I’m not making any big plans”
  183. >You let out a yawn
  184. >”I should probably get going, the train will leave soon and you need to rest and heal up”
  185. “Yeah...feeling kind of tired”
  186. >Funny, you were ok with your friend going to Hollow Shades when she told you about her plans, but now that it’s the time to say goodbye you almost feel like you don’t want it to happen
  187. >”Goodbye Anon, it was a very taxing and exciting adventure but I’m glad it was you who I ran into in the cabin”
  188. >You let out a laugh
  189. “More like a fun outing, you were all over those Olms in the cave”
  190. >Daylily blushes a little and turns around before slowly walking away
  191. “It’s not that big!”
  192. >Daylily stops and looks at you with confusion on her face
  193. “But that does not mean it’s completely flat either, I think it is nicely build and toned with an adequate amount of bodily fat on it for it to function in a desirable way”
  194. >Daylily seems even more confused
  195. >”What are you talking about?”
  196. >You point at her ass
  197. “Your butt, remember back at the house when we were going up the attic?”
  198. >Daylily suddenly seems to remember and then suddenly hides as much of her butt behind her tail as possible
  199. >”Stop staring at it...”
  200. >You cross your arms and push your chest out proudly
  201. “No!”
  202. >Daylily rolls her eyes and then walks away while you stand there like that and watch her walk away
  203. >After she’s far away from the hospital you stop doing it and turn around and head in
  204. “I’m going to miss you”
  205. >And what you don’t see is Daylily’s ears twitching like she heard it and saying something of her own before resuming walking
  206. >”Me too”
  207. >And that is the story of how you met and befriended a bat pony named Daylily
