Speaking on behalf of disc here -- we also do not see this occurring often, if at all. A lot of our discussion around this was framed from a perspective of "but what if this does happen": we want to ensure that us treating it in a certain way is what folk actually expect from us. It also means we aren't scrambling to figure out what to do if it does come up --  it sucks for everyone involved when stuff gets dragged out into weeks long discussions about what action to take without any clear consensus. Spending time considering this now means we've already thought of the answers before this comes up, and can act quickly without leaving someone in limbo for a long period of time.

Yes. I want to be clear here: a plagiarism case is that because the issue at hand is plagiarism; and that is what this is. As per the [[[site-rules|Site rules]]], plagiarism includes:

>  You may not attempt to pass off another user's article as your own work.

There's uh really no other way to describe what doing this would be.

This said: a plagiarism case does not mean "immediate perma" -- indeed, in both the examples of your plagiarism bans, disc opted for shorter bans (a month for the first, and currently a deadlock between month and year for the second). In this specific case, likely we'd be looking at sending a warning first and only escalating if either the claim of writing it isn't retracted or additional claims of writing are made.

(As a note, there's a current ongoing discussion around redefining plagiarism -- the staff handling it is currently on break but it's expected that they will introduce a new policy around handling plagiarism of memes that is likely to be more lenient than the current one. This does not mean that the policy will be approved, or that we will push for it being not against the site rules completely.)
