Give me all of the side dishes please! Mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mmm!

My parents usually host Christmas, but my plans for New Years vary a lot. This year I'm jumping around for the holidays a lot to spend time with different family groups.

My favorite holiday tradition is having my dad read The Night Before Christmas to my sister and I on Christmas Eve. This year he'll be doing it on FaceTime!

When I was a kid, one of my cats pulled down our Christmas tree while my sister and I were watching Mary Poppins. Our neighbor Ed had to come get it back up since my dad was at work and my mom couldn't lift it. That was the last year we had it in that corner before moving it into the dining room!

I REALLY want a weighted blanket, actually. I hear they're fantastic for anxiety and chronic pain.

I'd keep helping my sister with her wedding, which is coming up in April, if I could do anything for anyone this season.

I think I love ALL holiday music equally! Though I am partial toward Jingle Bell Rock.

Sometimes I get stressed about finding the perfect gift for someone, and then I worry about if I've given them TOO much and it's going to be weird somehow.

We DO get snow in December! The year that one of my Neopets friends from Australia came to stay, it was her very first time seeing snow, and it was completely overwhelming. Writing this up has actually hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia, and I'm going to go message her now. :)

december 30th: beatleon

» Cassie
» First Year
» Past: Ravenclaw
» Current: Hufflepuff, Student

We're always broke this time of year because we have a lot to celebrate and a lot of traveling to do! Between Thanksgiving, my birthday, our anniversary, Christmas, New Years, and Bryan's birthday, we have a busy month and a half!

The best holiday dish is this AMAZING pecan pie recipe that I have, but the worst holiday dish is that marshmallow yam thing that people make (sorry if you love it).

If we can't make it to Colorado or Texas for the holidays, it's just me and Bryan and we mostly do absolutely nothing except enjoy the day off from work.

We've never really followed any holiday traditions. There is always so much happening around the holidays that we all get together when we can and do whatever sounds fun!

When I was five, we got our Golden Retriever, Daisy May, on Christmas. I fought hard for the name Flower (hence the compromise on Daisy).

If I could get anything this year it would be a piano! I've been playing piano for as long as I can remember but when I started living in apartments seven years ago, it wasn't possible to move a gigantic piano around with me (not to mention the noise complaints I'd get). They make wonderful electric pianos now though that would be perfect for apartment living, however, they have a pretty hefty price tag!

All my friends and family ever want is to be able to be together. The best gift I ever gave Bryan was a surprise visit from his mom. So, if I had to gift anything, I'm going to buy us all a private airline so we can see each other whenever we can.

My favorite holiday song is You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch by Thurl Ravenscroft. I try to be festive when the holidays are near, but it's not until the animated version of Grinch is on TV that I finally get excited! There's also a cover of the song by Rachel Platten that I love."

My least favorite thing about the holidays right now is that we live so far away from everyone.

It does snow in ND in December and I do like having a white Christmas! Makes the whole thing a bit more magical I think.

december 29th: quaivoltaire

» Vana
» Alumna
» Past: Professor, Activity Host, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Slytherin
» Current: Ravenclaw

I celebrate Christmas.

The best holiday food is forever mashed potatoes. Wintery cupcakes get a special mention. The worst is stuff made from pigs (imo).

I normally celebrate the holidays with my partner and our daughter. We aren't really party people, although sometimes my mother-in-law hosts a gathering.

Um… pumpkin juice is a big feature. (; The main trend is relaxation and Christmas music!

The weirdest thing happens every year, and it's the feeling of peace that is so rare at every other time of the year. I'm superstitious about the healing powers of the season, yo.

I feel pretty satisfied. I'd want to give something to someone else who needs it -- there's a homeless mother and her baby near my apartment complex, for instance, and I wish so desperately that they had a home.

My partner really wants a trip to France. I'd love to do that for him.

Bing Crosby's Mele Kalikimaka brings back fond memories of spending December in Hawaii."

No complaints. Warm fuzzies all over.

I wish it snowed here!

december 28th: restrictedsection

» Elle
» Former member, Re-Joined: 12/25/2018
» First Year
» Past: Head of House, Activity Host, Professor
» Current: Ravenclaw, Student

I celebrate Christmas and New Year's around this time of year.

My favorite Holiday food is cranberry scones. I could eat a million of those. I am very much like Ron Weasley when it comes to food. I love it all!

I spend the holidays with my family. My family hosts the parties, I just attend. xD

Every Christmas Eve, my parents get my brother and I Christmas pajamas.

This is not exactly weird, but one Christmas I called my brother a bad word without knowing what it meant. I did not know it was a bad word. My mother was not very impressed. One of my fondest memories of Christmas is when my brother who is in the military got to come home last year. Unfortunately he did not get to this year.

I would love to be gifted anything Hufflepuff! Or the illustrated versions of Harry Potter! I NEED those!

If I could gift anything to any loved one, I would buy my brother's military contract so he could come home and did not have to serve anymore.

Rocking Around the Christmas by Brenda Lee is my favorite holiday song.

I work retail, so my least favorite thing about the holidays is all the Grinches and Scrooges who treat retail workers poorly this time of year.

I do live where it snows. I would prefer to live somewhere it did not snow. I am getting rather sick of snow. xD

My least favorite would probably be fruitcake... blegh!

I normally spend the holidays with either my family or my husband's family. We have never hosted because we haven't had a place to do so, but I'm sure we will in the future at some point.

As far as traditions go, we normally decorate the house, put up and decorate a Christmas tree, exchange gifts, etc. All the typical Christmas-y type stuff.

My fondest memory of Christmas would have to be when I was younger and actually got to spend Christmas with my sister. When I moved away from her, I was around 9 years old with her being 8 years older than me. I have great memories of us being small and opening gifts together on Christmas morning.

If I could be gifted anything in the world this year, I would want a baby goat!!!

f I could gift anything to a loved one, I would have all of my parents' debt paid off so they could retire happily.

My favorite holiday song is the Alvin & the Chipmunks version of Please Christmas Don't Be Late."

My least favorite thing about the holidays is the pressure to buy so many material things for people.

I live on the southern east coast of the U.S., and sometimes we'll get snow, and sometimes we don't. If we do get snow, it's typically more in the January-February time frame. Although, there was a time a few years ago here it snowed on Christmas Day, and that was pretty cool!

december 26th: keia0987

» Keia
» Alumna
» Past: Staff, Head of House, Activity Host, Hufflepuff
» Current: Gryffindor, Minister for Magic (Staff), Planner, Professor

Around this time of year, my family and I celebrate a few different things! Christmas Eve is spent with David's family, Christmas is spent with mine, and the 21st, my birthday, is spent with my family as well! This year, however, I get to spend Christmas Eve with patients.

My favorite holiday food is Turkey and Dressing. It reminds me of home and my family and everything good from my childhood. The worst? Probably Green bean Casserole. I never could get behind that no matter how hard I tried. Or anything seafood related. Seafood is gross!

Typically I celebrate the holidays with my family, David's family, and friends. This year I celebrate with patients, which is okay too. Someone needs to cheer them up about being in the hospital!

Our traditions are pretty standard, I think. We decorate a tree and the house. We wrap presents and hang stockings. I decorate at work as well. I'd like to start a tradition of baking cookies, but I'm not sure if David would want to partake.

The weirdest thing that has happened around the holidays was probablly last year. I've never had a real tree, so David agreed to get one with me. It turned into the biggest debacle. We couldn't get it into the tree stand cause it had branches so low. Cause the man basically handed it over to me and tied it to the roof of my Mazda hatchback (It hung over in all directions). It took us maybe ten minutes to get it into the house. Then once it was there, it was probably an hour and a half before we ever got it upright. That was the night I learned you can use a boxcutter and a hammer to chop branches off a tree. Yeah, I'm a bit Southern. Haha.

If I could be gifted anything this year, I'd pick for my grad school tuition to be completely free. I wanna go back to school so bad, but its too expensive for us to afford it at the moment.

If I could give anything to a loved one, I think I'd pick for my mom to be debt free. She's had a rough few years after having a lot of medical problems. So I'd help her out.

Hands down, favorite song is Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve/Sarajevo. Its so pretty and instantly makes me feel like Christmas!

My least favorite thing about the holidays is the stress that comes with it. Did you get the right present, who is going where, how are we traveling, when are we seeing this person, where are the presents, did you forget stuff? Its all too much sometimes. Basically, it all involves traveling during the holidays.

I think it could snow in Decemeber here considering it snowed in November. Do I want it to? No! I hate snow. I'm Southern. We shut down and stop everything if it snows. Up north, people driving with the snow. No ma'am. Not me.

december

 66. We celebrate Christmas and New Year
 67.

 68. My fave Christmas food would be pigs in blankets, they're the best by far. Worst would be...any dessert with fruit baked into it. Or fruity desserts in general. Chocolate only please!
 69.

 70. I normally spend Christmas with my Mum, boxing day is spent round my bf's parents with his family. And usually the weekend before or after I see my Dad and Grandparents. I'm definitely an attendee, I would inflict me being a host on anyone. I can't cook!
 71.

 72. The traditions I observe are dinner and presents, I mean that's essentially what it's all boiled down to. And spending time with loved ones.
 73.

 74. Our holidays tend to be extremely normal. Except I remember this one time I ate an outrageous amount of food at my Grandparents that I had to lie on the sofa and not move for a good 45 minutes!
 75.

 76. I'd love a puppy! I've wanted a pet dog all my life, but as my Mum always worked full time, and I now work full time it's just not fair. So I guess a puppy and time to spend with said puppy.
 77.

 78. I'd gift my Mum a new house by the coast if I could!
 79.

 80. Favourite Christmas song - Rocking around the Christmas Tree, la la la la la la. (I'm awful at song names/knowing more than 1 line of a song)
 81.

 82. Worst part of the holidays is them ending and having to go back to work :C
 83.

 84. It normally snows in Jan/Feb here, not in December. I'd like it to snow as long as I'm not going outside anywhere!

december 24th: celeste_esther

» Katy
» Alumna
» Past: Activity Host, Head of House
» Current: Ravenclaw, Caretaker

I celebrate Hanukkah this time of year!

My favorite holiday food are Latkes and gingerbread cookies! However, I tend to avoid fruit cake.

Due to how vacation time works out, I don't tend to do anything big for Hanukkah since my family is several states away, but I do always light the Menorah for all eight nights. Over Christmas time, when everyone is able to get off of work and school, my family does tend to get together for Je.wish Christmas, which consists of going out for sushi and going to the movie theater.

My favorite memories of the holidays is going to New York to visit my Grandparents when I was younger. We would only get to open one present per night, so I would always pick the biggest one for the first night. Grandma would always put up the craziest Hanukkah decorations, leave tons of Gelt (chocolate coins) on the table and make amazing Latkes.

If I could, I would have my boyfriend come home for the holidays (which may or may not happen, so we will see!!)

I would like to give my parents a vacation. They have been under so much stress and they deserve it.

Don't hate me but I hate the repetitiveness of holiday music.

There is rarely snow where I am, but that's okay because I hate snow.

december 23rd: ifiranthezo0

» Alex
» Alumna
» Past: Staff
» Current: Gryffindor

I celebrate Christmas Eve, my family used to let us open one present before bed. I haven't really done this with my daughter though. On Christmas, I try to get together with my family, my sister and her kids and our kids open present together. We also go over and open presents at Luke's Mom's house with his family. On New Years, my family likes to stay up really late and at midnight, we run outside and bang pots and pans and scream Happy New Year! "

The best holiday foods are hors d'oeuvres with meats, cheeses, pickles, cocktail onions_ green and black olives, my family has to have these! I also really like fruit salad, turkey and mashed potatoes. I don't like when my Dad makes Prime rib for Christmas because he never cooks it enough for me.

Sometimes I have holidays at my house, but usually my daughter, Luke and I, go over to our parents house to open presents.

Some holiday traditions my family had were having tangerines in our stockings, a sibling secret santa exchange thing, singing Christmas carols to our neighbors. With Luke's mom, we have a giant cookie day, where we bake hundreds of cookies and give them out as gifts.

I remember when I was in 7th grade, my Dad had bought our family our first computer and it was a really big deal. This was back when home computers were fairly new and very expensive.

If I could get anything I want for Christmas, I would be given my teaching certificate and be done with school! ;)

If I could give any gift, I would take my daughter to Disneyland for Christmas, maybe one day!

My favorite Christmas song is Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, it reminds me of my Grandma and Grandpa. It would make my Grandpa laugh so hard and my Grandma would get a little mad. Haha.

I hate how moody people are around this time of year, especially in retail settings.. worked almost 10 years of retail during Christmas

Sometimes it snows here in December, in the last couple of years, we had one white Christmas! I love snow!

december 22nd: littlemisspotter

» Allie
» Fourth Year
» Past: Slytherin
» Current: Gryffindor, Student

I celebrate Christmas and New Years.

I love all of the Christmas food, from the turkey to the stuffing its all delicious. But the jelly cranberry sauce is nasty.

I celebrate the holidays with my parents, sister and nieces. We typically celebrate at my parents house.

Every Christmas eve we all open one gift together, its always a pair of Christmas pyjamas. After we open up our pyjama's we put them on and all sit together to watch a Christmas movie. Then before we head off to bed we help the kids set up treats for Santa and the reindeer.

The weirdest thing that happened to me around the holidays was when I was Christmas shopping a few years ago, a lady ran into me, quite hard, with her shopping cart. She didn't stop or apologize for it at all. Ten or so minutes later, I encountered her again, she was just about to grab the last of these Hannah Montana Tour Bus for Barbies, well I swooped in around her, grabbed the last one and ran for it.

A brand new car would be the perfect gift for me! I doubt its going to happen.

If I could gift one thing, I would gift my parents with a big all expenses paid trip all over Europe. My mom has always wanted to travel but has never had the chance to.

I don't really have a favourite holiday song. Christmas music is okay, but not my favourite thing in the world.

My least favourite thing about this time of year is how crazy it gets when your shopping. People are everywhere, and can be so rude.

It definitely snows where I live. Its not Christmas without snow!

december 21st: platformcookie

» Amber
» Second Year
» Past: Hufflepuff, Prefect
» Current: Slytherin, Student

I celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day this time of year.

The best holiday food is ham, potatoes, and apple pie! The worst holiday food is stuffing. Ew.

I spend the holidays with a lot of family. I typically have 4 Christmas parties and one Boxing Day party. Every few years I help plan just one of the Christmas parties, the rest I get to attend and enjoy.

Traditionally, we set up our Christmas tree, lights and decorations. We go to an amazing christmas light show. Two of the parties we play a game, similar to a white elephant game, but with cereal, and a few different rules. On Christmas eve we have a seafood extravaganza dinner, then we open our family present (pj's for all, a new movie, popcorn and treats). Then your typical Christmas morning of waking up and emptying out our stockings, then we slowly open presents, one or two at a time with lots of games and activities in between. Lastly we have our Boxing Day celebration and dinner.

I suppose a weird holiday thing would be Boxing Day. I've only recently began celebrating it, since my dad got remarried. It's quite an interesting little holiday, one that not many people I know celebrate.

If I could get any one thing this year it would be for someone to pay my college tuition.

If I could pick any one gift to give any one person, it'd be success and happiness for my kids.

My favorite song is Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I've always loved it since I was little.

My least favorite thing this time of year is shopping. I hate having to deal with the overly crowded shops. It seems like the worst in people tends to come out during the holidays...

It snows a lot in December where I live. I typically don't like the snow, it's cold, slippery, and looks gross unless it's freshly fallen. That being said though, I do enjoy a white christmas. It gives a feeling of peace.

december 20th: fantasiere

» Sarah
» Former member, Re-Joined: 11/26/2018
» First Year
» Current: Gryffindor, Student

I celebrate Christmas and St. Nick's Day with my family this time of year.

The best holiday food is egg nog. Worst is anything that isn't chocolate.

My fondest holiday memory was a cruise to Mexico for the holidays when I was a kid. Mostly involved swimming, Neo, and Tamagotchi time.

If I could be gifted anything this year, I would want a growing family.

If I could, I would give my parents growth in their families.

My favourite holiday song is O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.

Consumerism is my least favourite thing about the holidays.

I live in a place that gets snow in December, and I absolutely prefer it.

december 19th: emmerhope123

» Quinn
» First Year
» Current: Gryffindor, Student

I celebrate Christmas in December, but we also light candles on the menorah on the last day of Hanukkah, for my mom.

Gingerbread cookies are the best holiday food! Sweet potato pie is the worst.

I usually celebrate the holidays with my friends and family. I haven't hosted any parties because I've always had roommates, but I'd love to when I get my own place.

I honestly don't have many holiday traditions. I've lived in so many different places over the years that traditions are hard to follow.

My favorite Christmas memory was the first year I got to help my parents play Santa for my younger siblings by putting out the gifts at night!

If I could be gifted anything in the world I would want to be financially supported as I hiked the Appalachian Trail.

I would gift my parents with an RV to travel around the country with - it is their dream!

Carol of the Bells by the Trans Siberian Orchestra is my all time favorite Christmas song.

My least favorite thing about the holidays is when stores start setting up for them in October.

I live in south Georgia so it doesn't snow. But I wish I lived where it did snow!

december 18th: emblo93

» Pieter
» Alumnus
» Past: Staff, Planner, Head of House, Caretaker, Slytherin
» Current: Ravenclaw

Around this time of year, I celebrate Christmas!

Peppermint bark is absolutely the best holiday food. Poorly-made, dry fruitcake is definitely the worst.

I usually celebrate with my family! And I don't think I've ever actually been to a holiday party before...

On Christmas Eve, we have kielbasa, pierogies, and sauerkraut for dinner. On Christmas morning, everyone opens presents (while wearing silly Christmas hats of course) and then we have a big pancake breakfast!

I once got strep on Christmas Eve...that was pretty awful

The best gift I could get would be a finished thesis so I can finally graduate.

I would gift Kayla happiness so she'll never be sad again.

We Need a Little Christmas by Johnny Mathis is just the best holiday song, hands down.

My least favorite thing about the holidays is how soon it's over.

I'm from New Jersey, so sometimes we get snow! I love it when we actually do get a white Christmas.

december 17th: laneysux

» Laney
» Alumna
» Past: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Head of House, Spookwizard Champion
» Current: Slytherin, Hospital Matron

The Holiday I celebrate around this time of the year is Christmas!

In my opinion the BEST holiday food is easily sweet potato pie! Also called casserole in some regions. But, not the kind that has the marshmallow stuff on top. That stuff is gross. I also really hate cranberry sauce. Like, why?

I used to celebrate with my mom's parents over the holidays, but they all passed. I also now live across the country away from my mom, so now I just celebrate with my dad's side or my fiance's family. Occasionally, I'll feel festive and host a Friendsgiving or Christmas party. It is a lot easier to just go to other people's parties though, they do all the work.

I don't really have any traditions, aside from celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve

The weirdest thing I got for Christmas was a gift card that had nothing on it... I know times are tough, y'all.

If I could be gifted anything in the world it would be for World Peace. Not to sound like Ms. American or anything but this world is sad and we need love.

If I could gift a loved one anything in the world this year I would give my mom my grandmother's charm bracelet that got stolen from her when our house got robbed one year.

My favorite holiday song is Last Christmas by Wham!

My least favorite thing about the holidays is how much thought is required. I am really bad about figuring out what to get other people for presents. I just buy people practical things.

I do not live in an area where it snows in December. A part of me wishes I did cause I've always wanted to experience a ~White Christmas~.

december 16th: cedric_is_cute111

» Caroline
» Former member, Re-joined: 08/25/2018
» Second Year
»Past: Hufflepuff
» Current: Slytherin, Student

I celebrate Christmas around this time of year.

The best holiday food is candied yams. The worst holiday food is ham.

I normally spend the holidays with my parents, brother, significant other, and my grandmother. I host the party with my significant other.

We open one present on Christmas Eve together as a family and on Christmas Day, we open all the presents and have dinner together.

My fondest memory from around this time is spending Christmas Day at my grandparents' house with my family including my cousins who I never see.

If I could be gifted anything in the world this year, it would be the gift of being able to move to a different apartment.

If I could gift someone anything, I would gift my grandmother back her house exactly as it had been before she had to move due to my grandfather's poor health.

My favorite holiday song is Baby It's Cold Outside.

My least favorite thing about the holidays is probably how commercialized it has become as far as the need for materialistic items

I do not currently live in an area where it snows in December, however I used to and I miss it a lot.

december 15th: lilstephychicka

» Stephanie
» Former member, Re-joined: 11/21/2018
» First Year
» Current: Slytherin, Student

I celebrate Christmas this time of year! And I have a little fun on New Years of course.

In my opinion, I think the best holidays food is cranberry sauce – I love it! As for the worst holidays food, I think I would have to say fruit cake. Why would I want fruit in my cake? Haha

I celebrate the holidays with my main family. We usually host Christmas morning and dinner. However, I do also attend other parties at others homes.

For our celebrations we pretty much observe the standard Christmas traditions – Everyone comes over Christmas Eve and we eat, drink and be merry. We open presents on Christmas morning but sometimes it ends up being around noon because everyone is hungover lol. Then we hangout all day, try out our gifts and have a huge dinner feast in the evening (with more drinks obv.)

If I could receive any gift this year I would choose a nice new car because I'm sick of my Ford.

If I could give any gift to any loved one, I would gift my mother a vacation beach house somewhere in Hawaii. She could really use it this year and that's her favourite vacation spot.

My favourite Christmas song is Carol of the bells by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

My least favourite things about Christmas is all the traffic on the road. GET OUT OF MY WAY *avada kedavra*

I live in Toronto, Canada so there is always snow here in December. We usually have snow between Nov – March, so almost half the year lol. I prefer to have snow during the Chrismtas holidays – I couldn't imagime them without it! I could without the freezing weather though..

december 14th: icanhaskaila

» Kayla
» Guild Founder
» Alumna
» Past: Staff, Head of DMLE, Head of House, Planner, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor
» Current: Hufflepuff, Obliviator, Activity Host, Professor

I was raised in a religion that focuses more on the Winter Solstace and overall Yuletide gaity, but I've never been one for religion. I celebrate Christmas, seeing it more as a special time for family and friends gathering, when I can spend a lot of money buying things for other people and nobody can make me feel bad about it :D

I've never been a fan of sweets much, but my grandmother made a banana split cheesecake and it was always incredible! Other than that, you can't go wrong with some potatoes and gravy. Holiday foods I can't stand are cranberry sauce (or just cranberries in general), and sauerkraut, which shows up to haunt me on Christmas Eve.

After my grandmother died, my (already kind of small) family pretty much disowned my mother for being a horrible person (which caused her to keep my brother and I away from them), and my mother kicked me out of her even smaller family not long after that, so I've had my fair share of holidays spent alone. I am so lucky that Pieter and his family have welcomed me to their celebrations each year since we've been together.

Pieter and I have been sort of discussing what our own family traditions are and we're still developing them. One tradition that we started last year is watching Chilly Christmas (a truly awful childrens' Christmas movie) with Stephan (his brother). Another tradition that we started last year (but just this year decided it would be a tradition) is buying one new abnormally tall Santa decoration each year.

When I was about 8, everyone was gathered at my grandmother's house and the kids (my brother, cousins, and I) were in the living room. There was a large window in the room that showed the kitchen on the other side, in which the adults were sitting, talking, and making food. Out of nowhere, we hear a WHAP! on the wall, and go to the window to see what was happening. Apparently my aunt had decided to throw a glob of mashed potatoes at someone, and it missed and hit the wall instead. The rest of the adults started a food fight and wouldn't let the kids in the kitchen to join.

If I had the choice of being gifted anything in the world, I'd wish for that to be enough money to buy Pieter and our kitten and hamster everything they want, pay off all of our debts, buy us a house (or two?), give Pieter's parents enough that his dad can retire if he wants to (after he buys an RV), and donate a crapton of it to charities, then have enough left that Pieter doesn't have to work so much and I can take him to Disney whenever he wants :3

Don't judge aight but the best Christmas song is Rosie O'Donnell and Elmo doing Little Drummer Boy. Alternatively, Kasey Musgrave's Christmas songs are perfect. I generally start getting real annoyed of repetative music, though.

My least favourite thing about the holidays is how commercial it tends to be, and how some people stress out about doing things just because it's ~tradition~ when they really don't have to do it if it's going to stress them out -- but then they complain about it. So basically I really hate forced traditions and the fact that many people don't realise they can make their own. I also honestly absolutely despise the concept of Santa. Lying to children is one of the worst things you can do to them. This particular lie can make them very selfish, while at the same time teaching them that it's fine to lie to people to get them to do what you want them to do.

I'm from New England (Salem MA, specifically) so I'm definitely used to a lot of snow around this time of year. I moved to south NJ last year, so that was the only winter I've experienced here so far. I can say that snow here is a lot more managable than it is in MA, since the roads are actually plowed within a reasonable time. It also usually doesn't stick around for too too long. I generally love snow when it's falling, but I'm not a fan of icy ground, or snow left on the ground that gets all grey and nasty.

december 13th: livforpeace

» Olivia
» Fourth Year
» Past: Ravenclaw, Spookwizard Champion
» Current: Slytherin, Prefect

I grew up celebrating Christmas this time of the year!

The best holiday food is ginger cookies, and the worst is eggnog.

Every Christmas Eve I go to my grandma's house with my mom, stepdad, two younger brothers, aunts, un.cles, cousins, and other distant relatives for a party. On Christmas Day, my immediate family and I usually hang out.

At my grandma's house on Christmas Eve, there's this tradition where my mom's cousin dresses up as Santa Claus and comes in with a sack full of presents. He hands out a gift to everyone, and everyone takes pictures with him. This was especially fun when we were kids (and we thought he was Santa Claus), but still nice/funny even though we're all adults now.

The weirdest thing to happen to me during the holidays is that two years in a row at a white elephant exchange I have ended up with these strange large cloth dolls dressed like very friendly showgirls.

If I could be gifted anything this year, I'd want to move in with Adnan.

I would love to be able to gift a first edition/first printing signed copy of a Roald Dahl or ‎J. R. R. Tolkien book to Adnan.

My favorite holiday song is Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas sang by Judy Garland.

My least favorite thing about the holidays is the hit to my bank account.

I live in sunny California. I would love to experience a snowy Christmas one day!

december 12th: jtheman04

» J
» Fourth Year
» Past: Gryffindor
» Current: Hufflepuff, Prefect

We celebrate Christmas and Christmas Eve in our house.

All food is best. Simple. Worst food, though? none. HAHA

Jen and I are hosting this year again. We celebrate with both of our families.

Jen and I always get our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. This is our daughters first holiday season, so we're excited to start some new traditions, like new pajamas on Christmas Eve.

The weirdest thing that happened to me was i went to Disney with my family for the holidays. We were on the plane and my tooth started to hurt. I went to bed that night, woke up and my entire face was huge. I had to have emergency surgery. My aunt and her husband don't let me come with them on vacation anymore!

I would like to give my daughter a sibling.

If i could gift anything, I would give my wife and daughter anything they wanted.

All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey is my favorite. Jen absolutely hates this song.

My least favorite thing is when people stress about it. It's supposed to be a time for family, not stress.

It definitely snows here. A white Christmas is beautiful up here in New England.

december 11th: deidrestyle

» Dee
» First Year
» Current: Hufflepuff, Student

I celebrate Chirstmas around this time of year.

My favorite holiday is Christmas. I don't have a least favorite holiday; I love any excuse to celebrate!

I celebrate the holidays with my husband and our two cats. We alternate between my family (here in OH, where we live) and his family (in NC) on Christmas, seeing the other set after Christmas.

We have a few traditions to celebrate Christmas. We go to church on Christmas Eve and watch It's a Wonderful Life. We also take place in a secret santa with my in-laws where we pick a name out of a hat and have a theme for the present- this year it's a present with the first letter of their name.

The weirdest thing that happened to me on Christmas was when dad got a speeding ticket on the way to my Aunt's house Christmas day. I was about 10 years old.

If I could be gifted anything this year, it would be a house (or at least a down payment) so we can get out of our apartment.

If I could gift anything to anyone this year, I'd get my husband another cat because he loves them so much!

My favorite holiday song is "I'll Be Home For Christmas".

My least favorite thing about the holidays is the weather. Snow and I do NOT get along.

I live in Ohio, where it snows a lot. I do not mind a light dusting on Christmas, but I would prefer if it would go away before and after.

december 10th: horses_rock_1963

» Pemily
» Alumna
» Past: Head of House
» Current: Hufflepuff, Planner, Professor

I celebrate CHRISTMASSS

The best food: Carbs. In any shape or form. Also, tamales. Fruit cake is the worst food. If you enjoy eating fruit cake...we need to have a chat.

My holidays are usually celebrated with family/family friends since our family is so small. We also visit the bfs family.

The main tradition we celebrate on Xmas is hiding the pickle ornament on the tree. You get money if you find it. Apparently it's a German tradition but my dad has asked every friend he has in Germany and they never have any idea what the heck he's talking about.

The weirdest thing about the holidays is my mom still writes Santa on most of our gifts. It's cute though.

If I could be gifted anything this year I would want a Taco Bell gift card and like 5k.

If I could, I would gift my parents a vacation!

I have A LOT of favorite holidays songs but I really enjoy playing old Jazz.

Cleaning is the worst thing about the holidays.

It very VERY rarely snows where I live. But we had snow about 3 times last year which is INSANE

december 9th: pvaaux

» Paige
» Alumna
» Past: Hogwarts Headmistress, Activity Host, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff
» Current: Ravenclaw, Head of DMLE (Staff), Professor, Planner

My favorite holidays to celebrate around this time of the year are the two basic American holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas!

In my opinion, the best holiday foods are anything bread related, green bean casserole, stuffing, and mashed potatoes! My least favorite is ham and candied yams.

I normally spend the holidays with my family and my boyfriends family! When I have my own house I love hosting, but since we live with my partner's parents, we have been attendees for the past two years.

The traditions we observe are the same ones observed by everyone - setting up the tree, decorating the house, drinking egg nog. The one thing that we do semi differently is that we always have dried corn for dinner on Thanksgiving! I had never tried that until I got with Corey.

The strangest thing to ever happen to me during the holidays happened this year - my mom decided she is no longer going to celebrate Christmas for religious reasons.

If I could be gifted anything in the world, I would love to have my own house ♥

If I could gift a loved one anything, I would buy my boyfriend a brand new Tesla (;

I have so many favorite holiday songs! Honorable mentions are All I Want For Christmas is You by Mariah Carey and Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande!

My least favorite thing about the holidays is how busy all the stores and restaurants get!

My area definitely doesn't usually snow in December. I would prefer that it did snow if I got to choose.

december 8th: jennifer_oneill

» Jen
» Alumna
» Past: Head of House, Gamekeeper, Hufflepuff
» Current: Gryffindor, Auror, Professor

We celebrate Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years this time of year! This year is extra special because it's our daughter Alyssas first holiday season.

My favorite holiday food is chocolate drizzled popcorn. My least favorite food for the holidays is anything with celery!

I celebrate with both mine and Justin's families every year. This will be our second year hosting!

This year we started a new tradition. Alyssa will open a pair of PJs, a book, a snack and a christmas movie on Christmas Eve!

The strangest thing that happened to me around the holidays was about fifteen years ago, I walked out into the living room to sleep on the couch and watch television. I looked at the couch and thought there was a bunch of tubes of wrapping paper on it...until it suddenly started moving. Turns out, it was my sister!

I have everything I could ever want! I have a great family, a loving husband, and a beautiful daughter.

If I could gift anything in the world, I would gift Justin and Alyssa a new house!

My favorite holiday song is Where Are You Christmas? My absolute least favorite is All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey.

My least favorite thing about the holidays is how busy the stores get!

I live in an area where it usually snows for Christmas. I like a bit of snow, but not so much where it's hard to travel.

december 7th: kimmsy2000

» Kim
» Alumna
» Past: Head of House, Staff, Spookwizard Champion (won the tournament)
» Current: Slytherin, Hogwarts Headmistress (Staff), Professor, Planner, Activity Host

I usually celebrate Christmas and New Years.

The best holiday food is my Mother's trifle (proper trifle none of this jelly stuff in it). The worst holiday food is Turkey (Sorry but I don't do dry food and I have tried it a few different ways and always dry)

I usually celebrate on Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas night with the hubby's family

We don't really have any traditions that we do every year. Probably the only ones is going to look at Christmas lights and on Christmas eve we watch Santa go by on this old fire truck. Also my family has always done the big Christmas meal on Christmas Eve.

The only weird thing that has happended to me is I have ended up in hospital over night on Christmas eve with an alergic reaction to Smoke Salmon (which I did and would still if I could afford it eat very often)

If I could be gifted anything I would have to say enough money to be able to pay of our debts.

If I could gift anything I would love to be able to gift the hubby with a child.

My favorite Christmas songs are pretty much anything from Michael Buble or Frank Sinatra. But if I am picking it would be Michael Buble - Cold December Night

My least favourite thing about the holidays is the stress everyone puts on themselves to make everything perfect which never works. And also the crowds in the shopping centres.

NO our Christmas is celebrated in the heat of summer. But would love to have snow instead of the scorching heat.

december 6th: sayok0

» Kai
» Fourth Year
» Past: Hufflepuff
» Current: Slytherin, Student

I celebrate Christmas and prepare for the new year around this time of the year.

In my opinion, roast turkey is the best and log cakes are the worst.

I normally celebrate the holidays with my friends and just attend holiday parties.

Festive feasting and christmas lights are observed for my celebrations.

The fondest memory during the holidays is that during celebrations we will gather everyone to take tequila shots together.

If I could be gifted anything in the world this year, I would love a jar of those da hong pao tea leaves.

If I could gift a loved one anything in the world this year, I would give my youngest brother a limited edition merchandise from his favorite show.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is my favorite holiday song.

Having work/school the next day or 2 days after is my least favorite thing about the holidays.

I do not live in an area where it snows in December. Although, I do prefer it to snow during the holidays.

december 5th: silasia

» Dani
» Sixth Year
» Past: Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin
» Current: Gryffindor, Prefect

I celebrate Christmas around this time of year.

In my opinion, salt beef and turnip is the best holiday food. Ham is the worst holiday food.

I normally celebrate the holidays with my family. I live in my childhood hometown where none of my friends live anymore, so the only holiday functions I attend are those that are hosted by the clinics I work at.

I always buy two chocolate advent calendars a year because as a child, my mom would get one for my brother and I but he would always let me eat his because he doesn't like chocolate. We also open one gift every Christmas Eve before we go to bed because we're kids at heart.

My fondest memory is the holidays dates back to a little girl when I lived in my Dads hometown where my Nan lives. After we opened our presents on Christmas morning, we would always go visit my Nan and Pop where it was like Christmas morning 2.0. I always thought her tree covered head to toe in tinsel was so strange!

If I could be gifted anything in the world this year, it wouldn't be something that you can buy in a store or hold in your hands. If I could be gifted anything, it would be the ability to be content about where I am in life instead of always thinking about what's next. - Or a Nintendo Switch.. that'd be cool too.

If I could gift a loved on anything in the world this year, I would gift a log cabin for my mom and a good pension for my dad so that he could retire young and enjoy his life.

My favourite holiday song is Santa On The Rooftop by Trisha Yearwood and Rosie O'Donnell.

My least favourite thing about the holidays is trying to figure out what gifts to buy people and always worrying about whether or not they'll like what I give them.

I live in an area where it snows during December and I can't imagine celebrating the holidays without snow!

december 4th: shelly1223334444

» Shelly
» Second Year
» Past: Gryffindor
» Current: Ravenclaw, Student

I celebrate German Christmas (on Christmas Eve). We open presents in the evening.

The best holiday food is mashed potatoes. The worst holiday food is turkey.

I celebrate Christmas Eve at my parents' house and then spend Christmas Day at my sister's partner's parents' house. I only hosted Christmas dinner once and it was a disaster. My only guest (visiting from England) woke me up at 5:00 AM to beg me to help her book a flight out of Canada because she was homesick.

On December 6, we leave shoes outside our door. We wake up to find that St. Nicholas had filled our shoes with treats!

My favourite Christmas memory is my niece and nephew's first Christmas.

If I could be gifted anything this year, it would be a dishwasher.

If I could gift a loved one anything, I would give my partner a plane ticket home for New Years. His whole family is in England.

My favourite holiday song is Silver Bells. All I Want for Christmas (Mariah Carey) is a close second.

My least favourite thing about the holidays is the snow.

I live in Ontario and it does snow. I would like it to snow on Christmas, and only on Christmas.

december 3rd: juli_puff

» Juli
» Former member, Re-joined: 10/26/2018
» Second Year
» Current: Hufflepuff, Student

Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, come light the menorah!~

My favourite holiday food is Latkes. Hands down. There is no worst food for me XD

I celebrate with Family and Friends. I just attend (rather than host) since I live in a very tiny apartment not suitable for hosting (also I am traveling this year).

Traditions I observe include eating things fried in oil, lighting the menorah, playing dreidel... but also there's lots of other more important holidays that have much cooler traditions

Kayla made Tim (my partner) and me WEASLEY SWEATERS. OMG SUCH TALENT. And just hanging out with Pieter and Kayla that time of year in general.

If I could have anything in the world, I'd want an awesome new job XP

I usually like to gift a person something useful, fun, or exactly what they need through a direct request...so I would gift my brother something that he asks me for.

Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song is my favourite holiday song.

My least favourite thing about the holidays is that Hanukkah is made out to a major holiday and it's not even close to the most important.

I don't live in an area that gets snow anymore! But I am traveling back to the cold anyway. I don't think I have a preference

december 2nd: painted_dreams87

» Heather
» Alumna
» Past: Head of House, Professor, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Spookwizard Champion
» Current: Hufflepuff, Activity Host

Around this time of year, I celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve + Day.

The best holiday food to me is Christmas cookies cut out into fun shapes, frosted with fun colors, and decorated with sprinkles. Making and decorating Christmas cookies was one of my favorite traditions growing up. The worst holiday food to me is turkey. I've never cared for it, and I'd much rather have mashed potatoes. xD

I normally celebrate the holidays at home, just my husband and me. We enjoy the day playing games together. We attend an annual family holiday party, usually sometime after Christmas. It's always an enjoyable time playing a gag gift game and laughing at the silly items.

I still enjoy the tradition of putting up my little Christmas tree as well as a few small decorations inside my home, even though it's just my husband and me.

I got married on December 11th, and that definitely has to be my fondest memory of a time near the holidays. Besides that, I have many memorable Christmases growing up with my parents and sister.

As I've gotten older, gifts don't mean that much to me. Don't get me wrong. I still love giving and receiving them, but I care so much more that someone thought of me and spending time with those I love than I do about getting something specific. If I could get anything this year, I would choose a memorable day at home with my husband.

If I could gift anything to any loved one this year, I would have a horrible time choosing. I would want to give my husband a virtual reality system, my parents the perfect house for them, and my sister + her family a new van.

My favorite holiday song is Silent Night.

My least favorite thing about the holidays is the greed. It makes me frustrated and sad to go to any store and witness how people are this time of year.

I live in the Midwest, and we get so much snow in the winter here, including in December. We almost always have a white Christmas. I love seeing snow on Christmas day, but I get so sick of dealing with it all winter that I could really do without it too.

I think the worst holiday food, in my opinion, is cranberry sauce, I do not like to eat sweet and savoury foods together and I don't understand how that fits in well with turkey (lol)!

Most of the time it is just my parents and I would spend the holidays together. When we lived in Toronto we would always go over to a family friends place but in Edmonton we spend it together.

Traditionally, every morning we come downstairs together to see what Santa left under the tree, while we open gifts we put on Parang (Trinidadian Christmas music), and my parents love videotaping so while we are opening gifts they will record the fun (upgraded to using a cellphone for videos in recent years, haha).

I don't know if I have a specific fondest memory for Christmas, but I remember how happy I was to get my first XBOX many many years ago and a couple years ago my mom and dad bought me a Michael Kors tote bag and two wallets, I legit cried because it was definitely something I wanted but never expected to get because they were so expensive.

If I could be gifted anything in the world this year it would be a gaming computer (not going to happen but I wish, haha).

If I could gift a loved one with anything in the world this year it would be a beach house on Mayaro Beach for my dad, it is somewhere that he loves to be and he loves to fish because it brings back so many happy memories with his late father and his family.

My favourite holiday song is Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer because I'm a child at heart and I like to add in extra lyrics!

My least favourite thing about the holidays is that Christmas songs get overplayed, it's get to a point that everywhere you go there is Christmas songs and it gets very very annoying.

I live in an area where it definitely snows in December, once it snowed in June.. The snow is definitely beautiful and I couldn't imagine a Christmas without it but it's not fun to drive in lol.

advent calendar questionnaire
