  1. Oh, you may not think I’m pretty,
  2. But don’t judge on what you see,
  3. I’ll eat myself if you can find
  4. A smarter hat than me.
  5.
  6. You can keep your bowlers black,
  7. Your top hats sleek and tall,
  8. For I’m the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
  9. And I can cap them all.
  10.
  11. There’s nothing hidden in your head
  12. The Sorting Hat can’t see,
  13. So try me on and I will tell you
  14. Where you ought to be.
  15.
  16. You might belong in Gryffindor,
  17. Where dwell the brave at heart,
  18. Their daring, nerve and chivalry
  19. Set Gryffindors apart;
  20.
  21. You might belong in Hufflepuff,
  22. Where they are just and loyal,
  23. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
  24. And unafraid of toil;
  25.
  26. Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
  27. If you’ve a ready mind,
  28. Where those of wit and learning,
  29. Will always find their kind;
  30.
  31. Or perhaps in Slytherin
  32. You’ll make your real friends,
  33. Those cunning folk use any means
  34. To achieve their ends.
  35.
  36. So put me on! Don’t be afraid!
  37. And don’t get in a flap!
  38. You’re in safe hands (though I have none)
  39. For I’m a Thinking Cap!
