Yatsuhashi held up his hands as Headmaster Theodore stalked toward him.

“Sir!” Yatsuhashi whispered. “I’m with you! Jax isn’t controlling me anymore.”

But Theodore acted like he hadn’t heard. “Come on, Daichi,” he egged him on. “Fight!”

Theodore tossed a right and Yatsuhashi dodged it. Then Theodore feinted with his left and punched again with his right. It clipped Yatsuhashi on the shoulder. It didn’t hurt, much, but Yatsuhashi was so tired.

“Please, sir, I have to get to Jax. I might be able to end this.”

Theodore winked. “Get ready.”

“Ready? For what?”

“Now’s your chance to fly.” Theodore wound up and delivered a powerful uppercut to Yatsuhashi’s chest. The Gravity Dust on his gloves warped sound and Yatsuhashi’s senses for a moment. By the time he heard the boom he was flying backward across the field.

Toward Jax.

Yatsuhashi spun around and extended his arms, like he was flying.

But Jax wasn’t there anymore.

Yatsuhashi sailed past the spot Jax had been standing only a moment ago and crashed into the back of a Ziraph.

He bounced off and lay in the sand, stunned. He couldn’t breathe, or move, and his Aura was down by half. He watched the Ziraph turn toward him and lower its head to charge.

Luckily, the Ziraph wasn’t interested in him. It would go straight for the strongest source of Aura in the vicinity, which now included Jax and Gill.

Yatsuhashi groaned and pulled himself to his feet. He swayed unsteadily, but he prepared himself as the Ziraph headed toward him.
