- (In dialogue, the tactician character is called [Tact]. That's the code that makes the game say the player's name they put in at the beginning of the game.)

- The Tactician:
- Everything is stable over there... All under control.
- Orion:
- You're adapting quickly to things.
- The Tactician:
- I try. The old man was quite the ruthless teacher. He'd force me into situations where I'd have to think or die. One time he threw me into a den of boars after I learned magic. Last thing I heard him say before I fell in was "I want pork tonight."
- Orion:
- I've always heard that Volund was a difficult man... He showed no mercy to even his own child, huh?
- The Tactician:
- I don't think he even knows what "mercy" means. I despise that man... But I admit, I wouldn't have the skills I have without him. It's a complicated feeling to say the least.
- Orion:
- At the very least, I feel grateful to him for producing you. I've been trained to command armies before, of course. But I'm not sure if I could do the things you do... If you never showed up to the castle that day, Ernterre may have been finished for sure.
- The Tactician:
- Well, if you find yourself lacking, I'll be sure to set more examples. Watch and learn, from the master, Orion.
- Orion:
- Sounds good to me!

- The Tactician:
- What about your parents, Orion? I always vent about my father. But I know nothing about your parents.
- Orion:
- Mmm. Well, my father was a great man. He set the standard for me to follow on how to rule. He cared for his family, knights, and the peasants. He did whatever he could to weed out undesirables who threatened Ernterre's peace. My mother was a perfect partner for him. Every bit as sharp, she was adored by everyone. ... I may have a biased view, but to me, they were perfection. I strive to be just like them. ... Of course, I admit, I'm much more impulsive than them. If something's wrong, I want to jump in and handle it myself.
- The Tactician:
- Mmm...
- Orion:
- It's been a while since I talked about them... I don't like to bring it up much, honestly.
- The Tactician:
- Sorry...
- Orion:
- No, maybe I needed to talk about it. As I said, it's been some time. I still have dreams about the day Father died. Did you know he died from falling down some stairs?
- The Tactician:
- No.
- Orion:
- It makes me angry. To know something so simple ended that great man's life... Ernterre was cheated out of his leadership from a simple slip. As for my mother, she died a year after him. She just lost the will to go on without him.
- The Tactician:
- ...
- Orion:
- I've tarnished their memory by failing to protect the duchy. But I will redeem myself. I swear it.
- The Tactician:
- You've got the power, Orion. I know you can do it. And I'll help you in every way I can.
- Orion:
- Thank you, [Tact].
- ///A
- Orion:
- You know, [Tact]. I envy you. Felt that way ever since we first met.
- The Tactician:
- ... There's nothing to be envious about. I may be a good magician and battle strategist, but I can't lead a nation like you can. We've all got our strengths and weaknesses...
- Orion:
- It isn't about that. It is just... you're free.
- The Tactician:
- Free?
- Orion:
- Free to go where you please. You were on a journey to see the world before the war started. ... I confess, I wished I was in your shoes. I've always wanted to travel to distant lands, specifically the far east. Off the coast of Brauma. But I am Duke Ernterre. I could not leave my people be. Ernterre is everything to me, I dedicate my life to it... But I can't help my desire to wander and explore new places. Sigh... And just look where I am now. I got my wish. At the cost of my own people's blood.
- The Tactician:
- Orion, you can't think like that... This war isn't your fault.
- Orion:
- Yeah... I know. Still, things like this keep me up at night. Sorry... I'm usually not one to mope.
- The Tactician:
- It's all good, Orion. Friends can lean on each other now and then.
- Orion:
- Yeah, thanks.
