- Get the latest version from the Releases page.
- Download and extract gta5cleaner.exe to the root 'Grand Theft Auto V' folder (same place as GTAV.exe )
- Double Click and run gta5cleaner.exe
- Enter your choice. Either clean or restore
- clean : Cleans your GTA 5 Installation of mods leaving you with the Base Game for Online Play
- restore : Restores cleaned mods for Single Player
- Once the process is completed, press any key to exit the tool and open the game normally
- If you use OpenIV or for extra safety, you should verify the integrity of your game files:

- Rockstar Launcher: https://support.rockstargames.com/articles/360036000713/

- Clone/Download the project and copy app.js and essentialFiles.js into the GTA 5 Installation root directory.
- Open Command Prompt inside the GTA V Installation root directory and run node app.js
- Compiling a Windows Executable
- Executables are compiled with a very specific version of nexe that allows access to the filesystem, which has a tricky setup procedure.
- Installing the correct version of nexe
- Run install_nexe_win.bat as admin on Windows, will take about 5 minutes to install fully.
- Alternatively, install manually like this:
- Firstly, install the general nexe globally with the command:
- nexe . --target win32-x86-10.13.0
- npm install -g cspotcode/nexe#19a5046
- Now we should have the correct version of nexe for building.
- Check that the version is 4.0.0-beta.4
- Run build_win32.bat on Windows to build a Windows Executable. This can be found in /dist.
- To build a Windows Executable, run the command:
- nexe . --target win32-x86-10.13.0 -o ./dist/gta5cleaner.exe
- in the root directory of the project.
- Mods Guide: How to Install and Uninstall Mods
- This Mods Guide is a handy resource to help you find, install, and uninstall mods in GTA 5.
- While modding a game like GTA 5 is certainly a good time, there is the chance that doing so will corrupt your game in some way, or, even worse, Rockstar might decide to ban you from using certain features of the game (if not the game itself). Use caution when installing mods and always make sure your downloading mods from a safe website.
- Some mods will overwrite important game files in order to change the game in the desired way. It is IMPERATIVE that you BACK UP GAME FILES BEFORE INSTALLING ANY MODS. This way, if / when you need to remove a mod, you can simply delete the offending files and copy the originals back into the game's install folder.
- It should be noted that we're only talking about single-player mods in this guide. Mods for GTA Online are prohibited and could result in a ban. Therefore, it is important that your mods are off when signing on to GTA Online.
- How to Get Mods
- There are a few websites that have quality GTA 5 mods. Notably, the site GTA5 Mods has a wide variety of different mods to choose from. There are categories for Tools, Vehicles, Paint Jobs, Weapons, Scripts, Player, Maps, and Misc. A lot of the vehicle and weapons mods apply new skins to your items or add sound effects. Want Spongebob Squarepants skins for your M4A4? You can get it here. Want the Dr. Emmett Brown skin for Trevor? This is the place to find it.
- Another website is GTA5 Mod Hub. Like the GTA5 Mods, this website has many mods to choose from in the following categories: Vehicles, Weapons, Maps, Scripts, Paint Jobs, Play, Tools, and Misc.
- Installing Mods
- Unfortunately, installing mods isn't as easy as downloading a file and dumping it into your GTA V game files. There are a couple of things you have to do prior to installing mods. And depending on the type of mod you're installing, you might need some additional programs to get the mods up and running.
- Two programs you will absolutely need are Script Hook V and LUA Plugin.
- There is no one way to install mods. Each mod will have its own set of instructions on how to install depending on which programs it needs to run. Follow the directions and the mod will be ready to go the next time you play GTA 5.
- Script Hook V
- Script Hook V, from Alexander Blade, allows you to run mods and scripts in GTA 5. You may need to download and install .NET Framework in order for Script Hook V to work. If you have Windows 10, you probably don't need to worry about downloading .NET Framework.
- You can download Script Hook V from the GTA5 Mods page or you can find it on the official site.
- Once downloaded, open the Script Hook V folder and go to bin.
- Copy ScriptHookV.dll to the game's main folder or where the GTA5.exe file is located.
- In order to run ASI plugins, you will also need to copy over the dinput8.dll file.
- If you have a need for the NativeTrainer.asi file, copy that over as well. This will allow you to use even more cheats in the single-player game.
- There will be some mods that require Community Script Hook V .NET to be installed as well. You can find this program on the GTA5 Mods page or the official site.
- LUA Plugin
- The LUA Plugin is required for some mods to work. You can also find it on the GTA5 Mods page.
- Download the LUA Plugin and open the zip file.
- Copy the folder called "scripts" and the LUA_SDK.asi file to your GTA 5 game directory or wherever the GTA5.exe file is located. It'll be the same place you copied over Script Hook V.
- At this point, the LUA Plugin is all set to go.
- Uninstalling Mods
- Most mods for PC games are fairly simple to uninstall - simply locate the files you've added to your root game folder and delete them. This file path usually looks something like:
- [DRIVE]: > [Install Location] > [Game Files]
