Vegan Soldier: Commander Blaki, we have 5 Motherburn ships warping out.

「援軍の要請はしておらんのに…。
映像を出せ」
Blaki: But I never requested reinforcements... Put them on screen.

ベガ兵
「はっ!」
Vegan Soldier: Sir!

ブラッキー
「確かに、我が軍のマザーバーンだ。
しかし、何故…」
Blaki: They are indeed our force’s Motherburns... But why are they...?

ガンダル
「愚か者!マザーバーンに記された
あのマークを忘れたか!」
Gandal: Fool! Have you forgotten what the insignia on that Motherburn means!?

ブラッキー
「あれは、ベガ大王親衛隊の…!」
Blaki: You mean, King Vega’s elite Imperial Guards...!?

レディガンダル
「わかればよい。
ブラッキー、彼らを丁重に迎え入れろ」
Lady Gandal: It seems you do know. Blaki, welcome them with the utmost hospitality.

ガンダル
「レディガンダルの言う通りだ。
くれぐれも失礼のないようにな」
Gandal: Do just as Lady Gandal says. Do not show them any discourtesy.

ブラッキー
「ははーっ」
Blaki: Yes, sir!

(Gorman enters.)

ゴーマン
「久方ぶりだな、ガンダル司令、ブラッキー」
Gorman: It’s been a while, Commander Gandal, Blaki.

ブラッキー
「ゴーマン大尉、
わざわざベガ星からやって来たのか?」
Blaki: Have you travelled here all the way from Planet Vega, Captain Gorman?

ゴーマン
「そうだ、ベガ大王の命令を受けてな。
戦果報告が届いていないので査察に来た。
地球侵略の進捗を聞かせてもらおう」
Gorman: That’s right, on order from King Vega himself. He tells me the war reports haven’t been coming in and sent me here especially to investigate. I would hear the progress of the invasion of Earth.

ガンダル
「…ブラッキー隊長、報告せよ」
Gandal: ...Commander Blaki, tell him.

ブラッキー
「はっ!
我々はフリード星の生き残り、デューク・フリードと
グレンダイザーを発見した」
Blaki: Sir! We have located the survivor from Planet Fleed, Duke Fleed and his Grendizer.

ゴーマン
「奴が地球に逃げ延びていたとはな…。
それで、始末したのだろうな?」
Gorman: So he made his escape all the way to Earth... And I assume you’ve dealt with him?

ブラッキー
「いや…。
地球にはヴァース帝国という、火星を拠点にした
別勢力が存在し、我々の手を煩わせている」
Blaki: Not quite... There is another force besides Earth, the Vers Empire stationed on Mars, that have been causing us a great deal of trouble.

ゴーマン
「つまり、たかが地球人ごときに
手こずっているというわけか」
Gorman: So what you mean to say is these mere Earthlings have you in a bind.

ガンダル
「ゴーマン大尉、地球人の力を侮ってはならん」
Gandal: Do not underestimate the Earthling’s power, Captain Gorman.

ゴーマン
「すぐにこれまでの戦闘記録を出せ。
今から地球侵攻の全指揮は、この俺が執る!」
Gorman: Bring me the combat records at once. From now on, I will take complete command over the invasion of Earth!

ブラッキー
「しかし、軍には軍の規律というものが…!」
Blaki: But the military laws state that--!

ガンダル
「…ブラッキー。親衛隊はベガ大王の直属部隊だ。
ゴーマン大尉の言葉は、すなわちベガ大王の
お言葉と心得よ」
Gandal: ...Blaki. The Imperial Guard is under direct control of King Vega. That means that Captain Gorman’s words are to be regarded as King Vega’s words.

ブラッキー
「ガ、ガンダル司令…」
Blaki: B-But, Commander Gandal...

ゴーマン
「物わかりはいいようだな。
俺は長旅で疲れた、少し休ませてもらうぞ」
Gorman: It’s good that at least one of you understands that. Now, I tire from my long journey. I’ll see myself to a short rest.

(Gorman leaves.)

ガンダル
(むう…ゴーマン大尉の実力ならば、
デューク・フリードを倒せるやも知れぬ。
このままではワシの立場が…!)
Gandal: (Ngh... If Captain Gorman is as strong as he appears, then he may very well defeat Duke Fleed. If so, then my position will be...!)

ブラッキー
(おのれ…あの傲慢な態度!
俺のブラッキー隊を好きにはさせんぞ!)
Blaki: (Damn him, and his arrogant attitude...! He can’t just does as he pleases with the Blaki Forces!)

「まもなくロシア、アムール地方に入ります。
哨戒機からの連絡では、針路上に異常なし」
Torres: We will soon enter the Amur Region of Russia. Our patrol units haven’t reported anything out of the ordinary along our planned route.

ブライト
「日本海ではミニフォーと何度か遭遇したが…
内陸部ではまだ姿を見せていないな」
Bright: We encountered a few Mini-FOs over the seas of Japan, but we haven’t run into any of them now that we’re inland.

弁慶
「こんな山間部を低空ギリギリで飛んでるんです。
そりゃあ、敵だって見つけにくいでしょう。
こっちは肝が冷えっぱなしですがね」
Benkei: That’s the result of flying as low as we can in a mountainous region. It’ll be hard for the enemy to find us here. Although I’m still scared they’ll spot us eventually.

ミサト
「ゲッターのパイロットでもそうなんですね」
Misato: So Getter pilots can get scared too, huh?

弁慶
「自分で操縦してりゃ、話は別だが」
Benkei: Well if I was piloting the machine itself right now, it’d be a different story.

ブライト
「確かにこの航路は、かなり難易度が高いからな。
オケアノス、デューカリオン共に
良くやってくれている」
Bright: Taking a route like this is difficult to navigate, to be sure. The Oceanus and the Deucalion have both done well so far.

ブライト
「特にデューカリオンの操舵手は
新人だと聞いたが…」
Bright: Especially considering that the Deucalion’s helmsman is a fresh recruit, from what I’ve been told.

アムロ
「ミライさんだって、いきなり操舵手を任されて
立派にやってたじゃないか。習うより慣れろ、さ」
Amuro: Mirai had the position of helmsman thrust on her too, but she got used to it quick. A bit of practice and their helmsman should manage just fine.

「よく周囲を見て。
ほら、サーモグラフィーも。
警戒を怠らない」
Yuki: Check your surroundings well. Come on, use the thermograph too. Don’t slack off when it comes to keeping an eye out.

韻子
「はい!2時の方向に機影3。
IFF応答なし、敵と判断。
まもなく有効射程。交戦に入ります!」
Inko: Right! 3 aircraft sighted at 2 o’clock. No IFF response. Enemy confirmed. Soon to be in target range. Engaging hostiles!

カーム
「…戦闘シミュレーター訓練とは言え、
韻子の奴、結構やるな」
Calm: ...Inko’s really getting into it, even though it’s just a combat simulator.

ライエ
「私にもやらせて」
Rayet: Let me try it too.

ユキ
「わかったわ。
それじゃ、後で韻子ちゃんと交代ね」
Yuki: Alright. You can swap when Inko’s done.

カーム
「それにしても韻子、腕上げたよな。
さっきのとか凄かったぜ」
Calm: You know, Inko’s really gotten better. That was pretty impressive just then.

韻子
「異世界で何度も実戦を経験してるからね」
Inko: I have built up a lot of combat experience in other worlds, you know.

ユキ
「ほらほら、こっちの話題に入ってこない。
もうあなたも、ちゃんとした軍人なのよ」
Yuki: Okay, let’s not get sidetracked. Remember, you’re a proper soldier now.

カーム
「俺もやっと資料に色々目を通せたぜ。
グラドス人やアストラギウス人だったか…。
俺達と変わらないんだな」
Calm: It took me a while to finally get through all the info about that stuff. The Gradosian and the Astragian stood out to me... Seems like they aren’t any different from us at all.

カーム
「火星人も俺ら地球人と変わんねえ。
言われなきゃわかんねえよ」
Calm: A lot like how the Martians don’t look any different from us Terrans either. You wouldn’t even know if someone didn’t tell you.

ライエ
「………」
Rayet: ...

カーム
「伊奈帆の奴もひっでぇよなぁ。
姫の正体知ってたのに、黙ってやがったんだぜ」
Calm: And Inaho’s pretty harsh too. He knew the Princess’s identity the whole time and never said a word.

ユキ
「ま、ナオ君も大人になったってことかな。
せめて姉には話して欲しかったなぁ…
好きな子できたんなら」
Yuki: I guess it just means I should start treating Nao like an adult. I do wish he’d talked to me when finding a girl that he liked though... I mean I am his older sister.

カーム
「…は?」
Calm: ...Say what?

韻子
「そっ、それ!どういうことですか!?」
Inko: C-Come again!? What does that mean!?

ユキ
「今のご時世、火星人なんて反対されるものねえ。
でも、相手がお姫様なら…結婚したらナオ君、
逆玉だよねぇ!」
Yuki: Given the times we live in, a Martian won’t be met with open arms... But in this case, Nao would be marrying into some serious money!

カーム
「おおー!」
Calm: Oooh!

韻子
「そうなんですか!?
そういうことなんですか!?」
Inko: Is that how it is!? Is that what he’ll do!?

カーム
「そんな気なさそうだけどなぁ。
いつもと同じ、愛のない顔してるけど」
Calm: Sure doesn’t seem that way though. He’s still his usual self. I haven’t seen him smile once.

ユキ
「全然違うわよ」
Yuki: He’s totally different.

カーム
「そうですか?」
Calm: For real?

ユキ
「家族なんだから、わかるわよ。
嬉しい顔、落ち込んでいる顔、嘘ついてる顔…。
あれは相当入れ込んでいる顔ね」
Yuki: I can tell since we’re family. I know when he’s happy, when he’s sad, and when he’s lying. And right now his face is saying that he’s on cloud nine.

カーム
「そうかなぁ…」
Calm: Oh, really...?

ユキ
「だいたい、あの朴念仁が女の子の話を
まともに聞いてること自体、おかしいでしょ?」
Yuki: I mean, how often do you see that cold fish listening to a girl so enthusiastically?

カーム
「それは確かに!」
Calm: That’s a good point!

ユキ
「あれが、あの子の最大の愛情表現なのよ」
Yuki: That’s his ultimate expression of love.

ライエ
(好かれている…?火星人なのに…)
Rayet: (Love...? But she’s a Martian...)

韻子
「界塚准尉!休憩、いいですか!?」
Inko: Warrant Officer Kaizuka! Can I take a break!?

ユキ
「どうぞ」
Yuki: Go ahead.

カーム
「あっ、俺も!」
Calm: Oh, me too!

(Inko and Calm run off.)

ライエ
「シミュレーター、いい?」
Rayet: Can I use the simulator now?

ユキ
「ええ、もちろん。やる気、充分ね」
Yuki: Sure, knock yourself out. Nice to see you so willing.

ライエ
(あの人を受け入れている地球人が
たくさんいる…そんなの…)
Rayet: (So many of the Terrans have accepted her... And yet...)

「さて、資料には一通り目を通した。
ブラッキー隊長、事情は理解できんこともない」
Gorman: Now, I’ve read through the reports. It’s not difficult to understand the situation you’re in, Commander Blaki.

ブラッキー
「そ、そうだろう?何せ、奴らは…」
Blaki: Y-Yes, it isn’t! After all, they are--

ゴーマン
「だが、今一度考えてみろ。我々の目的は何だ?」
Gorman: But consider this. What is it we are after here?

ブラッキー
「それは、全宇宙の征服…」
Blaki: To conquer the entire universe, of course...

ゴーマン
「そうだ。そして、地球で障害となっているのは
デューク・フリードとその仲間共だ」
Gorman: That’s right. And it is Duke Fleed and his compatriots that stand in the way of that.

ブラッキー
「しかしながら、相当数の[円盤獣]を差し向けても
打倒がならなかった今、新型の円盤獣の開発を進め…」
Blaki: But even so, they could not be defeated even after using a vast number of [Saucer Beasts] against them. That is why a new type of Saucer Beast is being developed right now...

ゴーマン
「ガンダル司令。
誘導装置ミサイルを使わせてもらう」
Gorman: Commander Gandal. I’m going to make use of your guidance missile system.

ガンダル
「しかし、あれは完成したばかりの…」
Gandal: But, that has only just now been completed...

ゴーマン
「完成しているのならば、問題はない。
奴らに単独で大気圏離脱能力のある機体が
どれだけいるか不明だが、その針路は判明している」
Gorman: So long as it’s completed, it doesn’t matter how new it is. We may not be aware of how many of their machines are capable of leaving the atmosphere, but we do know their destination.

ゴーマン
「そして、通信衛星の類が使用不可能である以上、
周囲を警戒する目も限定的だ」
Gorman: And with no communication satellites available to them, their view of their surroundings is limited.

ゴーマン
「ならば、ヴァース帝国の手段は有効なはずだ。
何故、それを使わん?」
Gorman: That being the case, the methods the Vers Empire employs should be quite effective here. So, why don’t we use them?

ガンダル
「隕石爆撃のことか?」
Gandal: You mean their meteor strikes?

ブラッキー
「しかし、それでは宇宙の宝石とも
讃えられる星を傷物に…」
Blaki: But that would cause damage to the planet considered to be the jewel of the universe...

ゴーマン
「地球の豊かな環境に気を取られて
侵略が遅れるようであれば、本末転倒だ」
Gorman: It would be foolish to prioritize the Earth’s environment over the completion of the invasion.

ゴーマン
「それに、既にヴァース帝国の攻撃によって
地球は傷付いている」
Gorman: Besides, the Vers Empire has already done plenty of harm to the Earth during their attack as is.

ガンダル
「………」
Gandal: ...

ゴーマン
「砕けた月の破片…隕石も山ほどある。
おあつらえ向きではないか」
Gorman: There are a number of fragments from the shattered moon that can be used as meteorites. I dare say those are exactly what we need.

ブラッキー
「そんな手段だけで勝てる相手ならば、
苦労はしない…!」
Blaki: If they could be defeated so easily with such tactics, then we wouldn’t have had trouble to begin with...!

ゴーマン
「拙速な奴め、そんなものは作戦とは呼ばん。
話を最後まで聞け。
まず、誘導装置ミサイルを使って…」
Gorman: Do not jump to conclusions, you imbecile. I did not say that was all my strategy entailed. Hear it till the end. First, we will use the guidance missile system to...

(Scene fades to black, then fades back in.)

レディガンダル
「ゴーマン大尉の作戦、なかなか見事」
Lady Gandal: Your plan is brilliant, Captain Gorman.

ゴーマン
「フッ…さすが、レディガンダル」
Gorman: Heh... I’d expect you to see it that way, Lady Gandal.

ガンダル
「ワシは納得できぬ。
せっかくの緑の星。多少傷が付いていても
綺麗なままベガ大王に届けたい」
Gandal: I am still unconvinced however. This is the Green Planet after all. I would like to present it to King Vega while it still retains its beauty, even if somewhat blemished.

ゴーマン
「俺に意見するということが
何を意味するか、わかっているか?」
Gorman: You understand what it means to go against me, do you not?

ガンダル
「ぬう…」
Gandal: Ngh...

ブラッキー
(若造め…
そう易々とあの連中を倒せてたまるか…!)
Blaki: (He’s just a newcomer... That bunch can’t be defeated so easily...!)

ゴーマン
「俺が気に入らんようだな、ブラッキー。
だが、それを顔に出しているようでは
出世できんぞ」
Gorman: I can see you aren’t fond of me, Blaki. But you won’t succeed in life by making faces like that at me.

ブラッキー
「うぬっ…」
Blaki: Ugh...

ゴーマン
「まあいい、俺の実力を思い知らせてやる。
権力を笠に着ているだけだと思うなよ」
Gorman: No matter. I will simply show you my true ability. Do not think for a moment that my power lies only with my authority.

天気は快晴。北西の風、風力3。気温は5度」
Fosetta: We will soon enter the Sakha Republic in Russia. Weather is clear. A force 3 wind is coming in from the northeast. The temperature is 5 degrees Celsius.

フォセッタ
「気象衛星からの情報がありませんから、
前線の状態は不明ですが…現在の気圧
1006ヘクトパスカルから、好天が続く見込みです」
Fosetta: Without the use of weather satellites, we cannot confirm the weather front for certain... However, judging from the current atmospheric pressure of 1006 hectopascals we can surmise that the weather will continue to be fair.

ミナト
「この天気なら、
敵を見つけ易くなるので助かりますね」
Minato: This weather will make it easier for us to spot the enemy.

シマ
「その逆もある。警戒を厳に」
Shima: The opposite applies as well. Stay vigilant.

ミナト
「はい」
Minato: Yes, sir.

シズノ
「このままデューカリオンを
無事に送り届けられればいいのだけど…」
Shizuno: It’ll be fine so long as we can escort the Deucalion safely...

「…デューカリオン、か」
Shima: ...Deucalion, huh.

キョウ
「何だよ、会長?」
Kyo: Something up, President?

シマ
「セレブラムにもデウカリオという名の艦がある」
Shima: There is another ship within the Celebram that also bears the name “Deucalion”.

キョウ
「元ネタはギリシャ神話だし、ありふれた名前だろ?
オケアノスだって、そうだしな」
Kyo: It’s a fairly common name since it originally comes from Greek mythology, isn’t it? That goes for the Oceanus too, I believe.

(A notification pings.)

「光学で捕捉!上空から隕石群が降下中!」
Ricerca: Our optics have detected something! Meteors are falling from the atmosphere!

キョウ
「なっ…!あり得ねえ!」
Kyo: Wha...!? You’re kidding!

Episode 72
Brightness Falls from the Air


(Scene begins with the three battleships flying a map screen of a mountainous region.)

ミサト
「エヴァ各機は各艦上で待機!
ヒイロは直撃コースの隕石を長距離狙撃して!」
Misato: All the EVAs are positioned on each ship! Heero, shoot down any meteors on a direct course for us from afar!

(Heero appears.)

ヒイロ
「任務了解」
Heero: Mission acknowledged.

ミサト
(こういう時に
ロックオンやクルツもいてくれたら、
助かるんだけど…)
Misato: (It’d be real nice to have Lockon and Kurz around at a time like this...)

デューク
「この辺りは被害が少なかったのに、
隕石爆弾で緑を破壊するのか…!」
Duke: There wasn’t much harm to the environment here before, but meteor strikes will devastate it...!

甲児
「種子島で俺達に負けて、
ヤケクソになったんじゃねえのか?」
Koji: Are they really this desperate after we beat them at Tanegashima?

ショウ
「考えていてもしょうがない、行こう!」
Show: No time to think about it, let’s go!

(Banjo, Koji, Hyoma, Kenichi, Tetsuya, Duke, Akito, Guy, Shion, Show, and Kyo all appear.)

「単独飛行が可能な機体は、
ヒイロの狙撃を擦り抜けた隕石を破壊して!」
Misato: All units that can fly, take down any meteors that Heero isn’t able to destroy!

シマ
「ブライト大佐、足を止めると
超高空からの攻撃を受ける可能性があります。
オケアノスはデューカリオン上空を防衛します」
Shima: Captain Bright, if we were to stop here, we may be attacked from extremely high altitude. Therefore the Oceanus will defend the Deucalion from the skies above.

ブライト
「では、本艦はその1キロほど前に出て進行しよう。
オケアノスの上空は問題ないか?」
Bright: Then our ship will move one kilometer ahead. Can the Oceanus keep us clear from above?

シマ
「アルティールに守らせます」
Shima: I’ll have the Altair cover you.

ブライト
「了解した」
Bright: Understood.

(The screen shakes.)

「すごい揺れ…!」
Rayet: So much shaking...!

「姫様、大丈夫ですか!?」
Eddelrittuo: Are you alright, Princess!?

Asseylum: Y-Yes...

女の子
「うう…怖いよぉ…!
これ、火星人の攻撃なの?」
Young Girl: Uuh... Miss...! Are the Martians attacking?

アセイラム
「それは…」
Asseylum: I don’t...

女の子
「でも、お姫様が何とかしてくれるんだよね?
戦争を…止めてくれるんだよね?」
Young Girl: But, you’re going to do something about it, right? Weren’t you going to stop the war...?

アセイラム
「はい、必ず…!」
Asseylum: Yes, I certainly will...!

Rayet: ...They trust you.

アセイラム
「えっ?」
Asseylum: Huh?

ライエ
「どうして?どうして正体を明かしたの?
火星人は敵だと思われてるのに」
Rayet: Why did you do it? Why did you tell them who you were? Martians are supposed to be the enemy.

ライエ
「どうして平気でいられるの?
火星人に裏切られたのに」
Rayet: How can you be so composed? You were betrayed by your own people.

Asseylum: ...

ライエ
「変よ、あなた」
Rayet: You’ve got a few screws loose.

姫様に向かって、何ということを!」
Eddelrittuo: The insolence! What do you think you’re saying to Her Highness!?

ライエ
「仲間だと思ってたのに…」
Rayet: I thought you were like me...

アセイラム

Rayet: (It makes no sense... None... None... None at all... Why did she reveal herself? How can she be so calm?)

(Scene changes to a snowfield, with several meteors impacted into the ground.)

「何とか凌げていますね…」
Misato: How the hell did we make it through that...?

ブライト
「広域に被害がないのが不幸中の幸いだな。
つまり、これは我々に対して向けられた
示威行動だということになる」
Bright: It’s both fortunate and unfortunate that there was no damage to the wider area. Because it means this attack was meant to explicitly target us.

「こんな時に何も出来ないなんて…!」
Kei: Is there nothing we can do about it...!?

ブライト
「トーレス、
オケアノスとデューカリオンの状況を報告しろ」
Bright: Torres, what’s the situation with the Oceanus and the Deucalion?

トーレス
「現在、2キロ後方を航行中。損害は…」
Torres: They’re currently two kilometers behind our ship. The damage they sustained is--

(Torres detects something.)

トーレス
「落下中の隕石群から、円盤獣とミニフォーが出現!」
Torres: Saucer Beasts and Mini-FOs are coming out of the meteors that fell!

ミサト
「敵はヴァース帝国じゃなく、
[ベガ星連合軍]だったのね…!」
Misato: Then the ones attacking us aren’t the Vers Empire. It has to be the [Vegan Empire]...!

(Saucer Beasts and Mini-FOs appear. Duke, Koji, and the player’s team deploy.)

デューク
「ベガ星連合軍め、俺だけを狙えばいいものを!」
Duke: Damn the Vegan Empire! I should be the only thing they’re after!

甲児
「ふざけやがって、やり方が汚ねえんだよ!」
Koji: I’ve seen some underhanded tactics, but this is a new low!

ブライト
「各機は敵の撃破を!
隕石の防御も忘れるな!」
Bright: All units, defeat the enemy! And don’t forget to defend against incoming meteors!

(Battle 1 begins.)

(Battle 1 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

甲児
「敵は全部片付いた。隕石も落ちて来ねえ。
これで終わりか?」
Koji: That’s all of them. And it doesn’t look like anymore meteors are coming down. Is it over?

鉄也
「だといいがな」
Tetsuya: If we’re lucky.

十三
「何だかんだで結構消耗したで。
一休みしたいわ」
Juzo: I’m pretty worn out after all that. We could use a break.

豹馬
「何言ってんだ、
コン・バトラーを操縦してんのは俺だぞ」
Hyoma: What do you have to be tired for? I’m the one controlling Combattler.

「気疲れや、気疲れ。
いつ隕石にぶち当たるか、ハラハラしたわ」
Juzo: It’s mental fatigue, man. I was freakin’ out wonderin’ when a meteor was gonna slam smack dab into us.
