- "Inodes Question
- This isn't exactly a TCG thing but I wasn't sure where to put it.
- Has anyone else, who hosts other people, ever had the problem with inodes? Basically, 1 inode = 1 file. So, if you have 1 00,000 files through your entire account you have with your host then you use 100,000 inodes. Basically all hosts have a 100,000 limit and after that they won't auto back up your site. Once you hit over 250,000, then they suspend your account until it's lowered. (sometimes they cancel the account instead)
- My question --- anyone else ever have issues with this? As you can might imagine, my account has over 250,000 files --- because I host a lot of sites, and trade post and tcgs always have a lot of files --- every card image we have counts as 1 inode each, so say your tcg has 10,000 cards, that's 10,000 inodes.
- I was just told by my host I have too many (again) but unfortunetly, I have nothing I can remove without telling hostees they can't be hosted by me anymore (mostly trade posts, esp those that have DW/LJ TCGs because most of them have upwards to 20,000 or more card images)
- My dog had surgery yesterday and I REALLY don't want to have to deal with this Especially since I have to decide and do it in the next week, two at most (or risk losing everything). "

- "Yes, many hosts have limits for the amt of files you can see in your FTP but actually I didn't mean your FTP.
- Basically, say you have a trade post, with various tcgs on it, and overall of them, you have 50,000 cards uploaded (the one bad thing about eTCG is old cards don't get deleted like most people used to do when manually updating). So, that's 50,000 inodes, 1 image file is 1 inode, just like 1 file (php, html, whatever) equals 1 inode too. You add all of that together and it can be a very high amount.
- Every host has limits too (usually 250,000 at most, though they like to keep it under 100,000). The problem is fixing that when you go over, basically the only way is to DELETE files but that would mean basically deleting sites --- A LOT of sites"
