  1. Celestia's sun rose and passed through the window, your signal to wake up. You cracked your eyes open, groaning in discomfort as you lifted your head off your desk. As much as you loved your mentor, she could work on her aim.
  2.
  3. Pulling your lavender mane out of your eyes, you yawned and looked at your notes. Notes you had taken of Ponyville's more political side. What was it Anon called it...
  4.
  5. Oh, right.
  6.
  7. 'Bureaucratic Bullshit'.
  8.
  9. You had told him it wasn't, but at the moment...you could see his point. The sheet had a large spot of drool dead in the center. You could still make it out, so you could always copy it over to a fresh sheet of parchment. Later though.
  10.
  11. Those notes weren't anything too important at the moment though. Today was a special day for Anon. The anniversary of when he came to Equestria, two months before you found him in the middle of the Everfree. He had been keeping track of the days on a tree trunk before you found him.
  12.
  13. Dragging yourself into the shower, you let the heated water cascade over yourself. A happy sigh escaped your lips as you washed away the last dregs of exhaustion out of your coat and muscles. Even after three years here, there was a lot you didn't know about him. A form of...infatuation formed right after the first time he stayed for the night.
  14.
  15. It was the dead of winter, the fireplace had gone out, and you were cold. He let you cuddle on him, and he was just so...warm. Anon put his arm around your belly...
  16.
  17. A blush came to your cheeks just thinking about it.
  18.
  19. "I think I'll see if he wants to hang out, spend some time with me on his special day." You said to yourself. You had, after all, planned on doing this three days ago.
  20.
  21. Special day...aside from his actual birthday, of course. You were the only pony who knew it, because nopony else could be trusted to not tell Pinkie. Anon wasn't one for parties.
  22.
  23. Not that he wasn't a fun pon-
  24.
  25. Human.
  26.
  27. He was perfectly fine at the small party for your birthday, and was fine at fairs and such. Now that you thought about it, it was whenever a large crowd of ponies were focusing on him that Anon got...nervous. Like at the Gala or during his official welcoming to Equestria. If you had to guess, it was the gawking that did it.
  28.
  29. Stepping out and drying off with a quick water-repellant spell, you looked yourself over in the mirror. A quick correction of an out-of-place hair, a quick plucking of a loose feather, and you were ready. Now, to find him.
  30. ---
  31.
  32. "Happy anniversary..." You mumbled to yourself, blowing out the candle on the cupcake you requested from Pinkie Pie. You took one bite, grimaced, and threw it out. Just suddenly weren't hungry, you supposed.
  33.
  34. Today marked year three in Equestria. Equestria was supposed to be a new start. New places, new peop-
  35.
  36. ...ponies, a whole new life. Instead, you were just as much a loveless virgin here as you were on Earth. To think, the very day you ended up here was the same day you were going to give your V-card away.
  37.
  38. You sighed, reclining on your couch.
  39.
  40. Rainbow had stayed over last night, too drunk to actually fly straight. You two had gone to the bar last night, but you had stopped drinking early on. She...had not. Dash was still upstairs, sleeping off enough alcohol to kill a small elephant. Regardless, you were off to...do something, you didn't know. Maybe some fresh air would clear your head.
  41. ===
  42.
  43. You arrived at Anon's place, knocking on the door. Your bright smile was dialed all the way up today, you wanted Anon to notice. Despite all of the friends he was making, he was still somewhat aloof. Ponyville could depend on him for just about anything though.
  44.
  45. He was adaptable, something you...really admired. The human was no slouch in your lab either. Apparently his world was so far ahead of yours that it was borderline terrifying, and always amazing. Just the other day he showed you how to make this material called 'Thermite'. You...had decided to never make that one again, especially after finding out that water only made it worse.
  46.
  47. A small patch of grass outside of Ponyville was still scorched black, even though that area in particular was noted for its relatively quick recovery.
  48.
  49. Another knock.
  50.
  51. Strange, Anon would have answered by now. He was usually up with the sun. You knocked again, and heard some shuffling inside. Maybe a late night?
  52.
  53. It wasn't unheard of for the human to have one of those, he sometimes spent the night at the library after the two of you spent all day in the lab. You would...sometimes take a sniff of his intoxicating scent while he was asleep. An embarrassed blush lit your face at the memory.
  54.
  55. The door opened.
  56.
  57. "Oh, hi Anon! I wa-Rainbow Dash?"
  58.
  59. The blue pegasus looked hung over, holding a hoof to her head as she winced.
  60.
  61. "Yeah, c-could ya keep it down please? Ow my head..."
  62.
  63. "Where's Anon?"
  64.
  65. "I dunno, Twilight. He was gone when I got up." She replied after a minute.
  66.
  67. You arched an eyebrow, a sudden panic overtaking you.
  68.
  69. "He let you stay last night?"
  70.
  71. "I was...kinda drinking last night."
  72.
  73. "You don't say." You replied bluntly.
  74.
  75. "He's an awesome guy, you know? Kinda bailed me out of a fight last night. 'Course, I coulda handled it, I just didn't wanna get my hooves dirty."
  76.
  77. You rolled your eyes, relieved.
  78.
  79. "Any idea where he went?"
  80.
  81. "Not a one, Twi. Sorry."
  82.
  83. "It's fine." You said with a sigh. "Don't make a mess of his house, you know how he is about that."
  84.
  85. The pegasus shot you a short, tired salute. The door shut in your face, and you huffed. You honest wouldn't blame Anon if he reamed her for the mess you saw over Dash's shoulder.
  86. ===
  87.
  88. A walk around Ponyville was practically uneventful. Pinkie was entertaining some kids at a birthday party (you didn't dare tell her yours, instead pretending you just didn't have one). She DID, however, know today was your 'Welcome to Equestria!' day. The earth pony had made your cupcake this morning, after all.
  89.
  90. "HEYANONWHEREYAGOING!?"
  91.
  92. Your heart leapt into your throat, and you jumped in kind. The fillies giggled and laughed at your reaction.
  93.
  94. "Jesus fucki-Pinkie!" You shouted, hand on your chest.
  95.
  96. The Party Pony merely giggled from behind you, handing you a balloon.
  97.
  98. "Happy 'Welcome To Equestria' Day~!" The mare chirped.
  99.
  100. "Yeah yeah, thanks." You said flatly and humorlessly.
  101.
  102. "Hey, what's wrong Nonny?" Pinkie asked, mood taking a sudden one-eighty.
  103.
  104. "Nothing, Pinks." You lied, waving the mare off.
  105.
  106. "You suuuure?" The bubblegum pony asked, trying to restart the humorous atmosphere.
  107.
  108. You offered a fake chuckle, which she smiled at.
  109.
  110. "I'm fine, really."
  111.
  112. "You're not...lying, are you?" She asked, ears flattening again.
  113.
  114. You honestly wished she wasn't psychic.
  115.
  116. "Really Pinkie, I'm fine. Thanks for the concern, but I'm just a little tired."
  117.
  118. "Pinkie Promise that you're alright?"
  119.
  120. "Cross my heart, hope to fly." You recited, and Pinkie seemed to puff back up.
  121.
  122. You didn't dare complete the phrase. She'd be after you otherwise. You waved her off to tend to the fillies, leaving you to your own devices. Pinkie Pie did send one last concerned look at you over her shoulder before restarting the fun, however.
  123. ===
  124.
  125. You walked into a grassy clearing, seeing Pinkie in full 'party mode'. Today was some filly's lucky day, you mused. Pinkie seemed really into it, but something was off. A very minute thing, but you saw it.
  126.
  127. The dancing and prancing was off.
  128.
  129. When she started spinning plates and balancing them on her nose, she nearly dropped them. Pinkie wasn't feeling very...Pinkie.
  130.
  131. Frowning, you trotted over.
  132.
  133. "Hey Pinkie!" You called, and she smiled at you.
  134.
  135. "Hi Twilight!" The over-excited mare replied, waving.
  136.
  137. The plates teetered slightly before resettling.
  138.
  139. "Have you seen Anon?"
  140.
  141. The plates fell over onto the ground.
  142.
  143. "Oh, whoopsie! Lemme just clean up girls, just a jiffy~!"
  144.
  145. The party goers went to the table where food was laid out, and Pinkie started gathering her plates.
  146.
  147. "Hey, are you alright?"
  148.
  149. "Just fine! Never better! Certainly not worried about Anon! Nope, not a bit!"
  150.
  151. "Anon went past here?"
  152.
  153. The Earth Pony stopped for just a moment, sighing.
  154.
  155. "Yeah, Twilight. He seemed...sad."
  156.
  157. "Sad? How so?"
  158.
  159. "There was something bothering him, he wouldn't tell me what. Kept insisting that he was fine." The mare continued, polishing the plates. She then turned to you, eyes watering. "Please find out what's wrong? I don't want my best human buddy sad on his anniversary day."
  160.
  161. "I will. Where'd he go?"
  162.
  163. "That way!" Pinkie replied, pointing towards the park.
  164. ===
  165.
  166. You sat at the park, watching one of the few fountains scattered about. Pony couples of all kinds were milling about, leaning and loving on one another. A few said "Hey!" or "Hi!" as they walked by you, which was nice.
  167.
  168. Ponyville had shunned you for the first couple months, until they realized something. You were useful. You may not have had an absolute mastery of anything...
  169.
  170. ...but you could do well enough at everything.
  171.
  172. "If you had a cutie mark, it would be in adaptability." Twilight had said. As well liked as you were though, you couldn't actually find anything more than a 'close friend'.
  173.
  174. It wasn't you, it was them.
  175.
  176. Captain James T. Kirk was one of your favorite characters, and thoughts of bedding alien chicks was always a...fantasy of yours. You were also a firm believer in Heart over Form. It didn't matter what your lover looked like, as long as they were something you were looking for. Thing is, the same apparently wasn't true for the denizens of Equestria.
  177.
  178. You were a tall, bipedal, smelly, hairless ape. Most were driven off by your natural scent that you could do little to hide. Deoderant had yet to be invented here, and you'd be damned if you wore some prissy perfume.
  179.
  180. Some ponies apparently liked the way you smelled (Twilight among them), but even then, they were driven off by your height or method of walking. You honestly didn't know why the friends you DID have stuck around.
  181.
  182. You sighed.
  183.
  184. "Howdy partner, seat taken?"
  185.
  186. You looked back to see Applejack trotting over with Applebloom in tow.
  187.
  188. "Nah, I was actually about to leave."
  189.
  190. "Really? Darn, Ah was hopin' ta have somepony ta talk to."
  191.
  192. "Hey...!" Applebloom whined.
  193.
  194. "Adult stuff, Applebloom."
  195.
  196. "Oh. So should Ah...?"
  197.
  198. "Go play? Yea."
  199.
  200. The filly scampered off, going to play near the fountain.
  201.
  202. "What's up, AJ?"
  203.
  204. "Pinkie Pie says yer not lookin' like yerself." The mare said, looking you over.
  205.
  206. This again.
  207.
  208. "I'll tell you like I told her, I'm fine."
  209.
  210. "Ya sure yer not, ya know..."
  211.
  212. "No, I don't know."
  213.
  214. "Depressed?"
  215.
  216. "What on Earth would I be depressed about?"
  217.
  218. "Well...exactly that. Earth, yer home."
  219.
  220. You rolled your eyes.
  221.
  222. "I've come to grips with that long before even getting 'settled' here in Ponyville." You said, looking the blonde pony dead in the eyes.
  223.
  224. "Ya sure it's not that bringin' ya down?"
  225.
  226. "Yes, AJ. My life here is happier than it was there."
  227.
  228. "So what *is* bringin' ya down?"
  229.
  230. "Nothing, AJ." You replied, voice carefully level and with a falsetto smile.
  231.
  232. "Don't lie ta me now, I can see it in yer eyes." The earth pony said, looking at you with concern.
  233.
  234. "Listen, it's just a human thing, okay?" You said softly. "I'll be fine. Later, AJ."
  235.
  236. You stood and walked away without another word, the blonde pony didn't try to stop you.
  237. ===
  238.
  239. You approached the park, seeing Applejack sitting on a bench. Applebloom was frolicking around the fountain, under AJ's careful eye. The other Cutie Mark Crusaders met up with the filly, and with the blonde pony's permission, left together.
  240.
  241. "Hey AJ, Anon pass by here?"
  242.
  243. "He sure did, Twi." The apple pony said, gesturing in a direction. "Awful short with me, I think he's depressed."
  244.
  245. "Depressed? About what?"
  246.
  247. "Dunno. He told me he wasn't, but Ah could hear it in his voice." AJ looked at you, locking her concerned emerald eyes to your own worried amethyst ones. "Ah remember what we talked about a few days ago, you need ta find 'im. He...sounds like he needs somepony."
  248.
  249. You nodded.
  250.
  251. "I've been trying. Always seem to be a step behind..."
  252. ===
  253.
  254. You were on the lake shore, secluded. The melancholy you were feeling just wouldn't *leave*, and it was starting to irritate you. God damn ponies wouldn't leave you to your own thoughts today, either. You pitched a flat stone across the surface, watching it skip twice before disappearing beneath the water.
  255.
  256. "So, is this how Superman feels?" You asked yourself mirthlessly.
  257.
  258. Unique.
  259.
  260. One of a kind.
  261.
  262. ...alone.
  263.
  264. Difference there being that Superman could pass for a normal human being. Take off the spandex and cape, throw on some glasses, put him in an office. Done.
  265.
  266. You couldn't pass for a pony if you *tried*.
  267.
  268. Being an instant celebrity was nice, sure. You were a pen-pal of Celestia, usually invited to some hoity-toity function or another just for the "Pony Elite" to essentially gawk at you. That was getting tiresome.
  269.
  270. To make a point to yourself, you had actually ripped apart the last pass to some Canterlot 'School for Gifted Unicorns' party. Childish, sure, but it made you feel better at the time.
  271.
  272. You didn't want someone to look at you in awe, or fear, or disgust. You wanted to come home and have someone look at you with love and caring. Sitting on the shore, you punched the sand uselessly.
  273.
  274. "Fuck me..."
  275.
  276. And there, in essence, was the entire issue. You couldn't find anyone that would.
  277.
  278. "O-oh, hello Anon."
  279.
  280. As if you needed more issues.
  281.
  282. "Hello Fluttershy." You said flatly, not looking over your shoulder.
  283.
  284. The butter-yellow pegasus crept past you, leading a family of ducks to the pond. They soon took to it, the ducklings swimming and quacking happily.
  285.
  286. "Isn't it wonderful?" Fluttershy asked, sitting next to you with a small, happy smile.
  287.
  288. "What?"
  289.
  290. "New life!" She chirped. "Two partners bringing new life and love into the world, leading them to continue their species!"
  291.
  292. You felt your heart get torn in half at her words.
  293.
  294. An uncomfortable silence settled over the two of you.
  295.
  296. Uncomfortable for you, anyway. Fluttershy was content to watch the ducks.
  297.
  298. "Tell me, Fluttershy."
  299.
  300. "Yes?"
  301.
  302. "What would the best course of action be for the last being in a species?" You asked, praying she would have an answer.
  303.
  304. "Hmm."
  305.
  306. The pegasus sat pensively for a few moments, ruffling her wings in thought.
  307.
  308. "Depends, Anon. Does this particular being know it's the last of its kind, or is it blissfully unaware?"
  309.
  310. "Let's assume the former."
  311.
  312. She was silent for a while.
  313.
  314. "Anonymous, any particular reason you're asking this?"
  315.
  316. "No real reason, just something I've been thinking about."
  317.
  318. The pegasus affixed you with a curious look.
  319.
  320. "Anon, are you feeling oka-"
  321.
  322. No way, you weren't getting asked that again today.
  323.
  324. "Ugh. Never mind, 'Shy." You said, standing up and walking away.
  325. ===
  326.
  327. Closing in on the lake, you saw Fluttershy watching a family of ducks. If you weren't mistaken, those hatchlings were the same she had been doting over for the past several weeks. Undeniably human footprints were on the beach, leading towards the water, then away. They naturally vanished after leading into the grass. If he had kept his same path, you'd have seen him.
  328.
  329. The pegasus was fluttering over the lake, encouraging the little mallards in their swimming and eating.
  330.
  331. "Now now, don't eat that! It's not healthy for you, eat this instead!" Fluttershy cooed, taking a stick from a duckling and pointing at some floating water weeds.
  332.
  333. It was then that she saw you.
  334.
  335. "Oh, hi Twilight!"
  336.
  337. "Hey Fluttershy! Have you seen Anon?" You called, and the pegasus nodded.
  338.
  339. "He just left."
  340.
  341. Fluttershy landed on the beach and looked away, hiding her face under her mane.
  342.
  343. "I-I think I made him angry..."
  344.
  345. "How?"
  346.
  347. "I don't think I gave him the answer he wanted."
  348.
  349. Answer?
  350.
  351. "What did he ask?"
  352.
  353. "What should the last of a species do?"
  354.
  355. You sighed. That's what you figured this bout depression was about. You had to find him before he did something stupid.
  356.
  357. "Where did he go?"
  358.
  359. "He started off going back to town, but then went the long way." Fluttershy pointed, leading you all the way to the south entrance.
  360.
  361. "Thanks, Fluttershy!" You said, before turning away and growling.
  362.
  363. Why was he avoiding you?
  364. ===
  365.
  366. Are you that transparent? Apparently so, you grumbled to yourself wordlessly. It was early afternoon as you began to walk back into Ponyville. Your eyes were on the sky, so you were only mildly shocked when you ran into someone.
  367.
  368. "Oh, sorry, my fault."
  369.
  370. "Oh, quite sorry Anonymous dear, but I'm in a small hurry!" Rarity said, backing up a bit to go around you. She had a large cart being towed by a small hitch around her midsection.
  371.
  372. "Here, hold on."
  373.
  374. You unlatched her and towed the cart yourself, going exactly where you knew it was going. Carousel Boutique.
  375.
  376. "Oh THANK you dear! That was getting so very uncomfortable."
  377.
  378. Her horn lit up light blue and a glow covered her midsection, pressing her coat back into place.
  379.
  380. "It's no problem. Just making myself useful."
  381.
  382. "And so useful you are!" She crooned, trotting alongside you. "Why, without your help, I might have been out here the rest of the day!" You chuckled, towing the cart with little trouble.
  383.
  384. "Usually these are heavier."
  385.
  386. "Usually there's more demand, Anonymous. Only a little bit for a small Manehattan gathering later this week."
  387.
  388. "Ah, gotcha."
  389.
  390. Silence took over.
  391.
  392. "Anonymous?"
  393.
  394. "Yeah, Rarity?"
  395.
  396. "Pinkie tells me today is your anniversary."
  397.
  398. Oh here we go again.
  399.
  400. "Have you ever considered getting a mare for yourself?"
  401.
  402. What the fuck was with these ponies today?
  403.
  404. "Considered it, never followed through." You answered, in a tone that suggested she change the subject. She instead pressed the issue.
  405.
  406. "Why not, dearie? You are the perfect gentleman, other mares should be crawling over each other to get you!"
  407.
  408. "Mares aren't interested in dating a hairless, carnivorous ape." You said bluntly.
  409.
  410. "Now, I wouldn't say that..."
  411.
  412. "Fine then. Would YOU date me?"
  413.
  414. Rarity clammed up at that, suddenly finding the cobblestone street very interesting.
  415.
  416. "Not myself, but..."
  417.
  418. "But?"
  419.
  420. Rarity remained silent, looking like she was about to spill some huge secret before she violently shook her head.
  421.
  422. "That's what I thought."
  423.
  424. You dropped the cart off out front of the Boutique, trying and failing to keep your irritation at bay.
  425.
  426. "See you later, Rarity." You said with a short, polite wave.
  427.
  428. "Good...day, Anonymous." The snowy mare replied with a sigh, before going inside and closing her door.
  429.
  430. Fuck it, today was a lost cause. Time to head home. The walk home was completely uneventful, and you came home...to a trashed living room.
  431.
  432. The kitchen was ruined and empty. Your bedroom was as equally trashed as the rest of the house. So much for loyalty. You started cleaning, beginning with your room and working your way down. Every time you picked up a book, your soul felt a little more crushed. Each chair righted, the small flame of anger grew. What, did the Wonderbolts suddenly show up and whisk her away?
  433.
  434. You sat on your bed.
  435.
  436. Actually, that made sense. Idols show up, wants to make an impression, throws an impromptu party before vanishing with them. All that anger that had been building up was suddenly extinguished. Then you remembered the unholy mess the pegasus had made downstairs, and the flame came back at double the strength.
  437.
  438. Sighing in frustration, you stood up and got back to cleaning. By the time the sun was beginning to set, you had your room and bathroom in order. You still had the first floor to do, but that could wait until morning. This day had started bad, and it ended bad. Go figure. It was only roughly five o'clock, but...
  439.
  440. You didn't feel like going out anymore.
  441.
  442. You felt a little bad for not visiting Twilight today, but you had tried once only to find the library locked up. So to hell with it. You laid back on your bed and cracked a book open, a random selection you had Twilight make for you last time you were there. Something about a minotaur prince and a pony princess, seemed a bit like Romeo and Juliet from back home...
  443.
  444. Hopefully this version was without the double suicide at the end.
  445. ===
  446.
  447. You had finally tracked Anon down. All day you had been tracking him down, only to end up where you started: His house. The door was wide open, and it looked like someone had ransacked the place.
  448.
  449. "Wow."
  450.
  451. The destruction was...impressive. Like Pinkie had an uncontrolled 'Party Meltdown' in the place. ...except the bubblegum pink mare would at least clean up afterwards.
  452.
  453. A few cerulean feathers were around, so you knew the culprit after a few scant seconds.
  454.
  455. Rainbow Dash.
  456.
  457. You had even made her promise to not make Anon's house a mess.
  458.
  459. "So much for loyalty..."
  460.
  461. You sighed, levitating a few things back into place. The living room alone would need a few concentrated hours of work, but you just needed to make a path right now. You heard snoring upstairs. Heavy, deep. Could only be the human you had been looking for all day.
  462.
  463. Trotting up the stairs, you indeed saw him with a leather-bound book covering his face. It was cute, if you were honest with yourself. You pulled the book off of him, and he grunted. Anon rolled onto his side, keeping the light from the desk lamp out of his eyes.
  464.
  465. Small tear streaks were reflected briefly. Had he been...crying? You had never seen him cry during his stay in Equestria, not once.
  466.
  467. Not even when his arm had been nearly broken after trying to catch you during a nasty fall of your own. You had wailed like a banshee, you remembered with a light chuckle. Your wings were so ultra-sensitive for the first two weeks after getting them, and...the left one had been bruised when you landed in his arms.
  468.
  469. A guilty twinge shot through you. You suffered a bruise and were crying, Anon had something fractured and was worried about *you*. He was...Always putting you before himself. It was time to return some of that soothing comfort. Wanting to rut him like a wild animal could wait.
  470.
  471. "Shh...there there, Anon...I'm here..."
  472.
  473. You hopped lightly into bed with him, then resumed whispering consoling words into his ear. Some tiny part of your mind realized this was wrong, somehow. The rest of your mind told that small part to 'shut the hell up'.
  474.
  475. "I love you..." You mumbled, kissing his cheek.
  476.
  477. The human grunted suddenly.
  478.
  479. "T-twilight...?"
  480. ===
  481.
  482. "Anon, are you awake?"
  483.
  484. "Y-yeah, I am." You said, voice shaky.
  485.
  486. You didn't know why you had started reading a romance novel, you KNEW it was going to do this to you. You were a sucker for romance, but reading when irritated tended to put you to sleep. Then you woke up to Twilight whispering 'I love you' into your ear.
  487.
  488. ...followed by her lips on your cheek.
  489.
  490. You hoped so, so sorely that wasn't the last dregs of a dream. You wanted to wake up like that more often.
  491.
  492. "Anon, I've been trying to find you all day." Twilight whispered softly into your ear, and you felt her horn gently trace up your back.
  493.
  494. You shivered reflexively, goosebumps appearing on your skin.
  495.
  496. "Oh, are you cold?" Twilight asked with false worry.
  497.
  498. "No, no, that...just felt good."
  499.
  500. You could feel the grin without even looking.
  501.
  502. "Well good."
  503.
  504. You hadn't reacted with any sort of anger because, well, she was a close friend. Twilight was also female, so the closer she could get to you, the better.
  505.
  506. ...God you were pathetic.
  507.
  508. "Twi, what are you doing?"
  509.
  510. "Just trying to make my overly stressed human relax."
  511.
  512. You noticed the weight she put on the word 'my'.
  513.
  514. "How do you know I'm stressed?"
  515.
  516. "I've been talking to my friends today, Anon. They all told me that something was wrong with you." The horn went along your spine again, eliciting another wave of pleasant shivers.
  517.
  518. "What are those curious little bumps on your skin..." She half asked herself, half asked you.
  519.
  520. "We call them goosebumps, no I don't know why. Old defense from when we had fur all over, would make us look bigger."
  521.
  522. "Why didn't this go away with your species' fur?"
  523.
  524. "Couldn't tell you. Probably to irritate us." You replied with a shrug.
  525.
  526. The mare 'hmm'ed to herself, then giggled.
  527.
  528. "What are you doing back there...?"
  529.
  530. You found out when she blew on your neck, giggling like the little imp she was. You felt every individual hair on your body stand on end, and you couldn't stop the small smile that came next.
  531.
  532. "Wh-what are you doing?"
  533.
  534. "I told you."
  535.
  536. Her hooves pushed you the rest of the way over, onto your stomach.
  537.
  538. "Relax."
  539.
  540. You found it hard to do that.
  541.
  542. "We're all worried about you, Anon." The mare said, pushing gently on your back with her marshmallow hooves.
  543.
  544. "Uh huh."
  545.
  546. "Why don't you tell me what's wrong? I won't laugh."
  547.
  548. You weren't sure about that one. Her soft, deep purple mane drifted over your face, and you could smell the lavender. Whether it was natural or from her shampoo, you didn't know. You didn't make a habit of exploring her shower, after all.
  549.
  550. "Just lots of things on my mind right now, Twi."
  551.
  552. "Start at number one, then. You have just as much right to vent and complain as anypony else." She cooed, blowing lightly on your neck again and giggling happily at the automatic response.
  553.
  554. "Number one is the total trash heap Rainbow left my house in." You said, a fair bit of fire leaping back into your tone.
  555.
  556. "What's going on with that?"
  557.
  558. "Rainbow got knock-down drunk last night, needed a place to crash. I gave it to her."
  559.
  560. "Mmhm?"
  561.
  562. "Left to take a walk around town, came back to find my house essentially obliterated. I trusted her to keep my pad in one piece."
  563.
  564. "Yes, I can see how that would be...annoying." The mare replied, her breath on your ear.
  565.
  566. Another wave of pleasing prickles went down your spine.
  567.
  568. "Annoying isn't the half of it." You replied with a small huff.
  569.
  570. "What else is bothering you?"
  571.
  572. You sighed in response, not answering.
  573.
  574. "Anon, come on. You know you can trust me with anything."
  575.
  576. "That's just it, the other things bothering me are...rather personal."
  577.
  578. "Personal how?"
  579.
  580. You rolled your eyes.
  581.
  582. "Personal as in 'mating issues' personal."
  583.
  584. Twilight's breath hitched in her throat, the massage pausing for just a moment before resuming.
  585.
  586. "I-if you want to talk to me about it, I-I'm all ears..."
  587.
  588. You felt her tail lift slightly off of your calves.
  589.
  590. "It's rather...private stuff."
  591.
  592. "Well...who else are you going to talk to about it?"
  593.
  594. You went to reply, but realized she was right. There wasn't another human you COULD talk to about this.
  595.
  596. "Fine, fine."
  597.
  598. You sighed, steeling yourself. Twilight's constant ministrations on your back and spine were helping coax out the confession.
  599.
  600. "Twilight, I'm a virgin."
  601.
  602. Instead of gasping like it was some horrid crime, or laughing at you, she...did nothing. Didn't even slow down.
  603.
  604. "This is usually looked down upon at my age."
  605.
  606. Still no negative response from Twilight, just her soft hooves along your spine.
  607.
  608. "I've just...been depressed today because I remembered what I'll likely never have."
  609.
  610. She 'mmhm'ed as she moved higher up.
  611.
  612. "Twilight, I'm *alone*. I appreciate what you ponies have done to make me feel at home, but..."
  613.
  614. You sighed.
  615.
  616. "I hate how this sounds, and I know it makes me sound whiny, but it's not enough."
  617.
  618. "Not enough?" Twilight replied, confused.
  619.
  620. "I...have certain needs that I haven't been able to sate."
  621.
  622. Her hoof stroked over a knot in your back, and you groaned in response. Within seconds, Twilight had it gone. She was too good at this. A warm, tingling feeling was spreading all over, and you sighed in relaxation.
  623.
  624. The massage stopped suddenly.
  625.
  626. "A-anon...?" Twilight asked nervously.
  627.
  628. "What?"
  629.
  630. "A-are you supposed t-to do...that?"
  631.
  632. "Do what?"
  633.
  634. You shifted, and you felt it. So relaxed, you had just gotten rock hard. Hard enough to show through your pants. In front of Twilight.
  635.
  636. It was like freshman and sophomore year all over again: Uncontrolled boners everywhere. You immediately rolled over and went into a sitting position, but the damage was done. Twilight looked nervous.
  637.
  638. "A-anon, wh..."
  639.
  640. "It's just this...thing that human males do when relaxed. I swear!" You said, flushing horribly.
  641.
  642. Great, now you've gone and blown a friendship to tiny pieces. Silence reigned as you looked at everything except Twilight. The mare, however, kept her eyes on you. Your boner refused to recede, despite your seating all but completely cutting off blood flow to it.
  643.
  644. "Anon...do you find me attractive?" Twilight asked.
  645.
  646. "W-what?"
  647.
  648. "It's an obvious erection, Anonymous. Just answer me: Am I attractive to you?"
  649.
  650. No point in lying anymore.
  651.
  652. "...yes."
  653.
  654. "It's funny..." Twilight said, a healthy blush on her own face. "I've...got a confession or two of my own."
  655.
  656. "What is it, Twi?" You asked quickly, maybe a little too quickly.
  657.
  658. You were eager to make this better, fix what you had possibly just shattered. She pressed her nose to your neck, taking in a deep breath.
  659.
  660. "You smell good..."
  661.
  662. She pulled back with a cheeky grin, before the grin turned into a sly smile when you arched an eyebrow.
  663.
  664. "I've been trying to court you for a little while now. Why do you think I picked that book for you?"
  665.
  666. You looked at the leather-bound tome.
  667.
  668. "Oh."
  669.
  670. Then it dawned on you, like the sun on an African prairie.
  671.
  672. "OH!"
  673.
  674. "I've always been taught that what's in a being's heart is far more important than appearance." She leaned into you, and as you weren't in any condition to resist her to any degree, you fell over. The mare put two legs on either side of you, pressing her lips to yours.
  675.
  676. A gentle, shy kiss, shared by the two of you. A little sloppy too, neither of you truly knowing what you were doing. She broke away, a thin trail of saliva still connecting the two of you.
  677.
  678. "And Anon...I've liked what's in your heart for a long time now." The mare said, pulling away breathlessly. Her horn lit up, and you heard your front door shut. Then your bedroom door followed suit. "Care to...share it with me?"
  679.
  680. You didn't wait an instant to reply.
  681.
  682. "As long as you share yours with me." You replied.
  683.
  684. "What kind of mate would I be if I didn't?" Twilight asked rhetorically, closing in for another loving kiss.
  685. ---
  686.
  687. You laid in bed hours later, Twilight nestled into your chest. The two of you were tired and worn out, and parts of your bed were soaked in your combined fluids. Kissing the mare on the forehead, you smiled as she buried her head deeper into your upper torso. No real finesse on your first time, just pure instinct.
  688.
  689. To be fair, it was the same with Twilight. Thinking back, you could have sworn you heard her whinny at one point. Seeing as your brain was pretty much swimming in endorphins at that point, you didn't care. You pressed your nose into her mane, pulling the purple pony tight.
  690.
  691. She shifted slightly to make herself comfortable, then resumed her quiet snoring. You were truly happy for the first time in a very, very long while.
  692.
  693. "Thank you, Twi."
  694.
  695. You weren't alone anymore.
