- So remember what I said about not touching Any% Normal for Cool Spot (Genesis)? I was lying in my bed ready to take a nap, but then I thought about the existing run I watched. I couldn't let that stand knowing I could do much better. So I rolled out of bed and turned on my Genesis to do a test run. I haven't properly routed the game, but I piledrived that time with a 44:21, compared to the 53:08 run. The time can drop by a good few minutes for sure.
- I'll work on Any% Easy when I feel like it, which should be a more laid back run.
- UNCOLA% is a category I will probably need to put the most effort into routing. There are 100 spots in the 11 stages that make up the game. On Easy mode, I need 75 spots to unlock the bonus stages. I will then enter the bonus stages just to get each of the 6 letters that spell out UNCOLA. This means I needed to get 75 spots in 6 out of 11 stages. I will save this category for later since I plan on adapting the Normal mode route for here.
- I also went back and finished up my Easy mode routing-based playthrough of Valkyria Chronicles 3. When I last left off, I was at the end of Chapter 12. I didn't worry about writing stuff down, so I blazed through the entire last third of the game. Seriously, VC3 gets so broken, but it's so rewarding after putting up with what the game throws at you earlier. My final in-game time was around 10 hours, compared to 23 hours for Normal. Part of why it took that long was having the enemy phase animations set to Fast instead of Instant. On Fast, you only see the enemies moving across the overhead map. On Instant, you don't see that, yet the game still has to process the actions it wants to take. Once I get more comfortable with the game, I will switch to Instant. I plan on doing more playthroughs to iron out the route I'm making.
- Out of boredom more than anything, I booted up Hercules for the Game Boy and came up with a route for the game on the fly. The game is downright terrible, but I guess it makes for an okay speedgame. Movement is janky, slowdown happens often, and the music is grating. A test run resulted in a 41:26. I guess I can say I now officially speedrun a bad video game.
- I'm really glad I was able to check out a mobile hotspot from the library, which means internet for a week. It's nice to be able to catch up with everyone properly. The isolation was getting to me here.
- Des will be visiting me in just a few days and I cannot wait to see her. She's the reason I endured what I have gone through out here. I do it for her. And soon, I'll be staying with her at her home. I think about this every day.
- So yeah, lots of stuff going on.
