  1. Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland has 9 different endings. This makes categorising runs tricky/interesting.
  2.
  3. The way I see it, there 2 different approaches to categorising runs:
  4. Having Any% as the main category, with possibly a NG+ category
  5. OR
  6. Having a category for each individual ending. (And possibly NG+ for each category)
  7.
  8. Having 9 different main categories allows people to run whatever ending they want, and it still be seen as a "main category"
  9. However having 9 different main categories doesn't look good on sr.com and can possibly divide runners e.g. There isn't lots competition in one category, just runners spread out over the different endings. Although having all the endings optimised isn't exactly a bad thing, as new runners can possibly pick up categories more easily.
  10.
  11. Just having Any% as a main category, gives the game an easy "default" category newcomers can look at and learn, without being tempted by 8 other endings. However it feels like it discourages runs of other categories, which I don't want. Another problem with having any% is if routes change and another ending is found out to be faster, if there are misc categories for each ending, the leaderboards becomes messed up because the old any% ending doesn't have it's own category, and times would possibly be needed to move around, which wouldn't be great.

  13. Being honest for a second, the 9 different categories seems like the obvious solution, but there's something about having 9 different "main categories" and how that can confuse potential newcomers to the game/community that I'm worried about. I'm trying to look at this in a way that views how leaderboards are handled and how newcomers would view them.
  14.
  15. Anyway, those are my thoughts on this, and they're pretty inconclusive, so if anyone wants to put their thoughts forward, I'd be happy to listen.
