Henry, a newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN, and his army of mercenaries. Fighting alongside Henry is Jimmy, who is Henry's only hope to make it through the day. Hardcore takes place over the course of one day, in Moscow, Russia.
Hardcore Henry is an action film told from a first person perspective: You remember nothing. Mainly because you've just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. Five minutes later, you are being shot at, your wife has been kidnapped, and you should probably go get her back. Who's got her? His name's Akan; he's a powerful warlord with an army of mercenaries, and a plan for world domination. You're also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, and everyone wants you dead. Everyone except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy. He may be on your side, but you aren't sure. If you can survive the insanity, and solve the mystery, you might just discover your purpose and the truth behind your identity. Good luck, Henry. You're likely going to need it...
This movie keep pushing me being a stubborn tech critic only rather than getting into the story-telling. It's continuously tickling into my mind I'm watching nothing but a man running with a GoPro over his head (or chest). Making a movie completely from a different perspective (First person) is undoubtedly a new thing to Hollywood film-making. But yet, the plot is weak, story is weak, and not much acting as well. Completing the film was nothing but releasing a breath 'Okay! I completed it!' by running being a dumb man, mashing several heads/body parts and almost telling no-story. Possibly a film I do not want to watch again (because there's nothing left to watch again).
A 90 minute roller-coaster ride through a veritable bloodbath of violence with a dash of story thrown in. <br/><br/>The first person view is done very well, from the action scenes to the slower parts. Sharlto Copley is great as the tour guide, assistant, and nursemaid. I felt a little giddy at some points due to the motion and I saw a warning at the counter for people susceptible to motion sickness, so be aware.<br/><br/>Considering the graphic violence and weak story it is good at what it is: a real-life FPS with a lot of different environments and perspectives. If that sounds good to you, you&#39;ll enjoy the 90 minute joy ride.
Naishuller’s technique is one that could be well served as a shorter gimmick; a solitary action scene in a larger film. Hardcore is unrelenting and unforgiving in its commitment to be loud, fast, destructive and gross.
