Unfortunately, the beast recovers from your attack with bestial ease, and despite obviously not being created with aerial combat in mind, it is quite capable of shooting out one of it's long spindly legs directly towards you. You twist your body to avoid the attack, but the restricted mobility you face as a result of still falling back to the ground prevents you from doing so properly, and the creature's leg pierces straight through your shoulder like some sort of gnarled black spear.
