the night after Thunderlane takes blossomforth for himself, he has a dream
and keep in mind
luna is still gone, but she's
it's literally like a year or two before nightmare moon returns
a big part of the lore i have for luna is that she actually fought very hard against the tantibus/herself/whatever else on the moon
and dreams, they're a biological necessity
so ponies didnt just
stop dreaming when she was banished
but yes as the time of Luna's return approaches, and the nightmare moon part of her is getting more powerful, dreams are becoming more and more visceral
thunderlane has a dream about a sinking ship with literally every single pony he knows on it
being crushed by a massive rogue wave
and for some reason he's the only one who can move
everyone else is frozen in place
however he cant really do anything except watch the wave come
and he, and everyone else, is thrown into the ocean when the ship capsizes
while suspended under the water, blossomforth swims down to him
and tries to pull him up
but he breathes out all the air he was holding and sinks like a stone
and wakes up after "drowning" for an indeterminate amount of time
he's kinda spooked by this but he's also able to shake it off as a drunk dream
(alcohol gives very intensive dreams so i'm hella capitalizing on that)
thunderlane's troubles are just beginning though
because in YourFavoriteWeapon, we get a little background on blossomforth, but for the most part she's just thunderlane's emotional dumping ground
here in Deja, we're treating to see a bit more of what Blossomforth's homelife/personal beliefs are
she belongs to an old Celestial cult that's been around since before Luna was banished, which i based pretty heavily on christian extremism
the general populace is kinda out on whether or not alicorns are gods, and generally have an agnostic viewpoint as is typically presented in the show
a lot of them don't even remember discord and luna/nightmare moon
but the celestial cult has elevated Discord to a devil figure, Luna to a "fallen angel", and Celestia to a Jesus proxy
as in, she's literally the daughter of the sun/is the sun in mortal form
what really affects thunderlane here though is their beliefs about relationships/love/mating
blossomforth has never fucked anyone before
according to the cult, the pony you first give yourself to is supposed to be the one you stick with
so Thunderlane feels like he's been "locked down", and Blossomforth is just
so happy she managed to catch Thunderlane as her "one"
and thunderlane is just so not into that

Celestia and Discord are Raging Inside Me

that's a quick shorthand for the stories in the series
in chronological order
so the party is kind of just a mess for thunderlane, who wanted to ditch blossomforth and get down with both old trysts and new
she's cockblocking him left and right, and the more she does it, the more pissed he gets
both in anger and drinking
and we're treated to a dream-like flashback for thunderlane showing the reason he has this power and control issue
his first time was with Daisy, years ago, at a party
and he was more or less in blossomforth's position
not a part of the cult, but he had been super attached to Daisy
and she, that first time at that party all those years ago
was really just looking for sex
and thunderlane was a snack
so the roles are reversed
and as drunk present-day thunderlane finally caves and just takes blossomforth up to his room (since he cant get anyone else), he fully falls back into that first time with Daisy
where she basically raped him, because he immediately got cold hooves and tried to direct the situation into
"actually i dont think i'm ready for this, can we maybe cuddle instead"
and she wasnt having any of that
so that experience really fucked thunderlane over
Daisy softened to thunderlane when their relationship actually progressed, but the damage to thunderlane was done

and that's what ended up ruining their relationship that sets up the beginning of YFW
but now thunderlane is stuck relieving that first moment just laying in bed staring at the ceiling with her on top of him
every single time he's fucking somepony
and the more aggressive/control he takes lessens the empty feeling Daisy left in him
and this was easy when he was just
plot hopping
fucking around withh little strings attached
with blossomforth, he's actually expected to have
emotional vulnerability
and he cant handle that very well
he's got a lot of secrets
both of his own and ones he traded for sex
thing is, Photo Finish is still kinda running thunderlane's life
because his modeling thing is like the main deal, that's how he gets most of his connections and bits at this point
and he's become pretty dissociated from his old life
the only reason he's even allowed to be a featured guest on Lyra's tour is because Photo Finish (rightfully) suspected that it would boost his popularity massively
Gale is also pretty attached to Thunderlane because she's
kind of a female version of him, but not in the way Daisy is
in that Gale likes to use sex as a power tool (whereas Daisy was "merely" just looking for sex)

As they’re going across equestria, she has to constantly keep convincing herself that Thunderlane isn’t too far gone

Gale wants to kick Thunderlane out of the band after this, and Lyra and vinyl are sort of over both gale and Thunderlane
Problem is gale is a fantastic bassist and lyricist, and Thunderlane is a very visceral singer and lyricist
So they’d basically cripple their band if they did that
But after gale, Lyra, and vinyl give Thunderlane a bunch of shit for being photo finish’s drama whore, he bails with blossomforth to a manehattan motel
And this is like, a gigantic Hope Spike for blossomforth
So she just starts going crazy on the rest of their life that she’s planned out
And Thunderlane slowly has the comprehension of what being engaged to somepony means
Dawn on him
When he and her go back to the motel room he gets drunk as shit and falls into a waking dream again
But this time, blossomforth is experiencing it with him
Because Thunderlane is literally inside her when he starts tripping
But the dream immediately breaks into Thunderlane and blossomforth spiraling down around each other through a massive storm down towards the ocean
One second Thunderlane is drunkenly pounding blossom, and the next they’re diving down
thunderlane’s dream is basically just his entire unsaid thoughts on how he feels his and blossomforth’s relationship
And she gets a frontline view of that
blossomforth is just taken along for the ride
And Thunderlane does not have high hopes for their future
All he can see for them is a loveless relationship where blossomforth pushes herself further and further while he descends deeper into his bad habits
And half the time in the dream blossomforth is glitching into different ponies he’s fucked in the past
Blossomforth has talked about wanting foals, so a huge part of the dream is his anxiety about having to become a dad eventually if he sticks with her
Dragged into the hospital while she’s in labor, the foals appearing as mutilated masses in his hooves
The vision of their wedding in the middle of a hurricane
A future where the kids are blessed but the parents let them shoulder all the blame
Just like thunderlane’s life
It’s not touched upon so much until now, and becomes a major part of the third story
But Thunderlane has a fucking awful family dynamic
His dad bailed right after rumble was born
And his mother has descended into insanity
Long story short, he can only see their relationship repeating his life
And when he and blossom wake from the dream, she’s pretty shaken
And Thunderlane has made the resolve to tell her the truth
So he does

And I am going to be vague in the story here at this point, likely having Thunderlane whisper to blossom in a way that isn’t described to the audience
But thunderlane’s troubles didn’t exactly start with Daisy
He did something as a younger teen to rumble that he is horribly ashamed of
Thunderlane tells blossom just how vile he truly is, and hopes that she’ll distance herself
Mostly because he’s too much of a pussy to disengage fully himself at this point
But blossom takes it the other way as she typically does
“You need even me more than ever”
So he bails
Like, literally just flies out the motel window
And goes crawling back to the band
He’s pretty sure he’s just fucked up massively
Blossom now knows his darkest secrets, and he just abandoned her
He’s essentially just waiting for the sword to drop
But hey, he’s got the solution for anxiety
Drink and fuck
He starts throwing himself hardcore into that, to the point where he’s showing up at shows unable to sing coherently and falling over himself at photo shoots
He’s also going through all Ponyville trysts from YFW

My headcanon for what happened with the Apple family is that bright Mac died first, and this broke pear butter
Who essentially just wasted away for the next couple years after his death before dying herself
This chapter has Thunderlane sneaking into sweet apple acres to give aj the fug
And then having to fuck off super fast when pear butter, in a state terrifyingly Reminiscent of his own mother, nearly barges in on him and AJ gettin down
Derpy is a special case though, because if you’ll recall
Thunderlane is the reason she’s got her wall eye
And possible brain damage
So he feels like he kind of owes it to her to make her feel loved even if he’s straight up lying about it
Photo Finish is sorta irked at Thunderlane for staying in Ponyville to get blasted and fuck old friends
So she wrangles him back to canterlot with the promise of being able to do an op with the current wonderbolts
And this clicks thunderlane’s old dream of wanting to join them
So he goes “fuck it why not”
Photo shoot goes surprisingly well
A little too well if he’s being honest
Fleetfoot and Spitfire take a very specific liking to him
And he’s still in like, a pseudo-relationship with derpy
She’s stayed home in Ponyville though
And he’s kept this massively under wraps
Finally learned his lesson
The band has been also trying to solicit him back, even gale has calmed down a bit
Especially since he’s no longer with blossomforth
So spitfire and fleetfoot take a liking to Thunderlane
A real “liking”
And this is the first time Thunderlane actually feels out of his league doing what he’s been doing
Spitfire and fleetfoot don’t give a fuck about his secrets, or anything he can “offer” them other than himself
And this is a bit of a rude awakening
He’s used to being able to more or less get what he wants by hoisting himself into positions of power over other ponies through sex and secrets
And this straight doesn’t work with the wonderbolts
Because they’re in his position, except better and longer
So Thunderlane has once again reached a cap where he’s powerless
Him vs Spitfire vs Fleetfoot
Which causes him to fall back on who he can exploit, in this case derpy
Getting drunk with her constantly (in fact, encouraging her to drink when she really isn’t too fond of it)
Lying for fun and faking the way he holds her
And she falls for every empty word he says
Blossomforth has been just locked away at home by her own admission at this point
Do remember her family and religious situation
The stallion who was supposed to be “the one”, and the only “one” has abandoned her
And from her point of view she can only see that as a fault of her own
Her family is super not happy about this
To the point where excommunication is talked of
And blossomforth is terrified of that because the celestial cult is all she has now pretty much
Daisy hasn’t been just fucking around though
She’s noticed what’s happened here
And she tries to take advantage of the fact that there’s another pony who was hurt by Thunderlane and knows about his slimeball behavior
But blossomforth isn’t fully ready to just destroy Thunderlane yet, particularly not when it’s clear that’s all daisy wants out of her
A way to get back at Thunderlane
So she doesn’t tell her about the rumble thing, or really anything other than that she should just get the fuck over Thunderlane already
This pisses daisy the hell off, especially since she broke up with him
“Thunderlane is a fucking loser why the hell are you defending him so hard”
Thunderlane has started going back to shows again as well
Slightly less of a drunk now since the wonderbolts thing sobered him as it were
But gale pretty much isn’t talking to him anymore at this point, and the fans can feel the tension
The shows stop selling as well
Photo Finish insists Thunderlane focus on the modeling and maybe try and get more chummy with the wonderbolts
And Thunderlane is just paralyzed in this fucking mess because he has no idea what to fucking do
He’s pretty fucking trapped by his circumstance
He feels like a wind-up toy running dry
Gale decides to be a bit of a fucker and mine this for songs
She considers it only fair anyway, what with Thunderlane and her’s earlier dynamic
And this actually causes Thunderlane to snap
Go off on her about how awful she’s been treating him and the rest of the band
She returns it in kind by giving Thunderlane some harsh truths that he already knows
And he uses this as an excuse to break with the band and throw himself back with what photo Finish wants
And photo Finish, oh boy
Does she have something up her sleeve
Apparently Princess Celestia herself is interested in meeting with Thunderlane
While internally Thunderlane is a fucking mess photo finish has done great pr on him
The audience is treated to how every situation actually goes down
But the public in-story is really only reading magazine articles
So they see Thunderlane as this slick Pegasus from Ponyville who shook off his hick roots to be a stunning model and creative
Thunderlane suspects the Princess Celestia bit is more PR, but as it turns out
She is legitimately interested in meeting him
For two reasons
1. Luna’s return is fast approaching and Celestia has been keeping tabs on those with vivid and lucid dreams
2. She’s thirsty af
I’m not actually entirely certain how to approach Thunderlane banging Celestia in its nitty gritty, but it is a very important moment for Thunderlane because

Because a clear pattern is emerging with the ponies he spends prolonged romantic contact with
Daisy is running the “I told you all he sucked” campaign pretty hard
But for the most part, not in the least due to thunderlane’s newfound fame and positions
Ponies fall in line behind him not really having done anything wrong and presenting blossomforth as sort of just
A melodramatic cultist
Already the celestial cult does not enjoy a good reputation around town
But Thunderlane isn’t even made aware of any of thing until he returns back to Ponyville about two weeks after blossomforth’s attempt
As the princess’s consort he really is just sort of living a cushy life
He’s not satisfied with it at all but he’s not about to turn it down

So she has no idea what to do, reasonably

But the deal with discord is that he was transformed into the mix-match ephemeral chaos spirit by mishandled draconeqqui artifacts
And his whole MO since then has been to cause enough strife and disharmony to return back to the physical world, as we saw in s2; there’s a secondary aspect I added to this, however
Since Limbo doesn’t exactly work chronologically, discord has some idea of future events
Or at least things that could happen
It’s hazy, but he knows that somehow the sparkle family prevents him from returning
Now, discord loves thunderlane
Thunderlane doesn’t know this of course, he doesn’t even know discord is real
Discord on the other hand is Thunderlane’s biggest fan
It’s very difficult for discord to do much beyond psyche manipulation and possession while in limbo
So he uses physical actors to bring about the disharmony that anchors him to the world more concretely
With Thunderlane, motherfucker is doing his job for him
Discord can kick back and throw his paws/claws/hooves/talons up and just watch Thunderlane ruin everything he touches
Discord has come to offer Blossom a pretty decent deal
at least to her in her state
"I can get you your revenge on everyone who has spurned you, especially thunderlane"
of course discord's intentions are not to help Blossomforth in the slightest
but she's desperate enough to try anything
including a literal deal with the devil

i jsut realized that unless i give her
a really good reason to want to fuck thunderlane
beyond "yes i like to have consorts"
it is a bit of uh "yeah but why" moment
if we go with she likes collecting consorts, it's kind of like
Photo Finish groomed and then offered thunderlane to her
and thunderlane has been slowly fucking his way around in more and more affluent circles
and he has access to secrets and information and relationships that others dont
i was also going to have them like, legitimately get on
in terms of conversation
give some actual chemistry
so that's what happens if we double down on the scuzz, and that's kind of the thing i wanted to do here with this story
because it contrasts with the idea of her as God
i could absolutely downplay the politics of it though and just have
for once
thunderlane actually legitimately just
being an enjoyment to someone
and make celestia a little less scuzzy
i dunno it's so difficult to me to write any character in an absurd position of power who isnt abusing it in some way
because that's kind of par the course for literally anyone in power ever
i suppose i could still have her... understanding the advantages of having thunderlane in her pocket but still legitimately enjoying him and not overly abusing the info he has
that might make for a better character of celestia
where she legitimately has to keep swatting herself down so she doesnt just use thunderlane as an object
which could contrast very well with how thunderlane/gale/daisy have been portrayed
and show that there's still some hope left, or something

the penultimate chapter, "Good To Know If I Ever Wanted Any Attention All I'd Have To Do Is Die" is the duality between Thunderlane actually getting a relationship he feels
good about
that just so happens to be the most devastating possible thing to the pony who legitimately loves him the most
and of course blossom doesnt want to hear from thunderlane that celestia is just
a mare
a very powerful one
but once again, she is not the sun
when thunderlane returns to ponyville to do damage control on the whole blossomforth situation, he finds that
essentially the whole town is on his side
even though now that he's been with celestia and starting to become a little more stable and empathetic
and can see that he really has been an egregious piece of shit
he's in quite deep at this point
the thing too is, he can't actually
find blossomforth when he's back in town
he just gets to witness the aftermath
Discord has spirited away Blossomforth in the old Everfree Palace and is just
loading her with tons of religious propaganda
and dragging her closer and closer to a rapturous state of mind where she'd be willing to do
anything
it get her closure
he promises to her that she'll get all of her revenge, and that she will be assured a place in "heaven" for carrying out what she's about to do
when really discord is just talking out of his many asses and is just manipulating her to eventually get rid of the sparkles
because as previously mentioned, discord knows that one of those annoying unicorns is going to ultimately
prevent him from returning
and he's not exactly able to just
influence the world in any way he wants
he needs to use physical actors

Thunderlane has fucked her up pretty bad
not only did he, you know, fuck her head up physically in that crash from the first story
but over the earlier parts of deja, he's clearly just taking advantage of her to try and shake blossomforth
once he's had his sobering moment with celestia, he tries to patch things up with her, but it's a bit late; he's already gotten her hooked on drinking since most of the nights he hooked up with her were resulted in both of them drinking heavily
thunderlane of course is an alcoholic so he's always got booze, shares it with derpy, and she easily becomes a drunk as well
when he's seen how Ponyville has thrown their support behind him, he wants to at least prove to himself
(or possibly daisy, who is one of like, five ponies in town who is vehemently on blossomforth's side)
that he can at least begin to repair the damage he did
he really can't, at least not at this moment
after seeing what a mess he's made Derpy, drunk alone in her home, he straight up flees
he's having a real BSoD moment
coincidentally
the summer sun celebration is tomorrow
Thunderlane swoops around town, looking for Blossomforth
can't find her
retreats to a cloud bank, and beats the shit out of it
whips it into a pretty fierce storm
and lets himself be overtaken by it
drunk as fuck, of course
and he slips back into that waking dream
he's back on the sea, in that ship
every single pony he's fucked over or has drawn into his destruction is there
frozen in various states of trying to flee the boat, or trying to ineffectually patch it
thunderlane is the only one who can move
the boat is stuck in the undertow of the massive, 100 foot wave that is threatening to swallow it
wandering around the boat as it creaks, ocean pressure holding its frame
he can see the lighthouse on the shore through the sleet and the rain
and realizes that there's really only one thing he can do
and starts to go around the boat, gathering up the frozen ponies and throwing them into the  life boats
and setting them free, hoping that they'll fair better against the wave that way
he manages to get most of them, but several specific ponies he cant get to
Derpy
Spitfire
Daisy
and of course, Blossomforth
as he's trying to drag derpy to the last lifeboat, everything unfreezes
and the wave swallows the boat, completely destroying it
cast under the waves, we're brought back to how the story began
thunderlane sinking beneath the waves, surrounded by debris
and blossomforth slowly swimming down to him
but this time, she's accompanied by something serpentine swimming around them
a figure that thunderlane doesnt recognize, but still inspires pure terror
and blossomforth, instead of trying to lift him up in the beginning
gently presses her hooves against Thunderlane's chest
and forces the air from him
Thunderlane doesnt resist
and he sinks deeper and deeper as he loses buoyancy
the duration of this dream occurs as Nightmare Moon returns to Equestria
and Twilight comes to Ponyville
so right before Thunderlane actually, physically drowns in the dreamscape, Luna is rescued by the elements of harmony and immediately hops back into her dream curation
not that she's not rusty from her sabbatical
but it's kind of a passive thing for her, Luna is always stuck in a weird middle ground between reality and dreaming
and since Thunderlane is in relatively close proximity
she's able to bring herself to him and rescue him from drowning
woken up, finding Luna bearing down on him in the cloud bank, coughing up water (could have been from the storm, could have been from the dream)
looks at Luna
coughs again
"Whoever you are, you should have let me fucking drown."
