- Dark Duel Stories Any% FAQ
- Q: This game looks like shit XD lolololololol faggot
- A: It's for Gameboy Color, what did you expect?
- Q: Is this portable Forbidden Memories?
- A: Kinda.
- Q: Aren't there more of this game in Japan?
- A: There are 4 Duel Monsters Gameboy games. I is very basic, II has more cards, III is Dark Duel Stories, IV is more updated DDS. I have a friend with I think I and III.
- Q: How does this game work?
- A: I'm gonna explain it in bullet points, to make it easier.
- - Password cards don't cost starchips, and there are no starchips.
- - Monsters can be fused, but only once per turn on the same monster.
- -Example: Selecting a monster and placing it on another monster in hand or on field will fuse something, then the card will be
- locked for the turn. But, this can be done as long as you have monsters to select.
- - Level 5-6 monsters must be tribute summoned by offering 1 monster.
- - Level 7+ monsters must be tribute summoned by offering 2 monsters.
- - "Guardian stars" exist in DDS. They cannot be changed like in FM, but the primary "types" are the same in FM.
- - Example: Flame Viper has Fire, Jirai Gumo has Forest. Pyro and Jupiter.
- - Fire > Forest > Wind > Earth > Thunder > Aqua, and Shadow > Light > Fiend > Dreams
- - If a monster has a Type Advantage with another in the attack, the monster on the losing end is destroyed.
- - If a monster is attacking with an advantage and higher ATK than the other, damage is still calculated normally.
- - You can't put any card you like in your deck. You have a deck capacity that increases for every win/loss by 5.
- - All cards have a deck cost. Traps are very low, Spells range from 0-255. Rituals are 0, useless Spells like Dark-Piercing are
- 0. Removal is anywhere from 50-255. Crush Card, Last Day of Witch, Eternal Rest, etc, are 50. Dark Hole and Raigeki are a lot.
- Equips are 150.
- - Monster's deck cost is determined by adding the ATK and DEF stats without the last 2 zeroes, for Level 4 and unders.
- Example: Dragon Zombie is 1600/0, so it's deck cost is 16.
- - Level 5 or higher is the same, but subtract 10 to 20 depending on level, of the sum.
- Barrel Dragon is 2600/2200, so it's deck cost is 28.
- - Monsters with effects are higher, because they have effects.
- - Example: Cocoon of Evolution is 0/2000, but a deck cost of 60.
- - Certain cards cannot be put in the deck if your level is low enough.
- - Example: Widespread Ruin, Raigeki, and I think Crush Card. (source and info needed)
- Q: What's the run?
- A: Beating all opponents 5 times each. To unlock the Credits Password.
- Starting from Tier 1 with Tristan, Joey, Yugi, Mako, and Mai.
- Tier 2 with Espa Roba, Seeker (Rare Hunter), Weevil, Rex, Pandora (Arkana), and Seto Kaiba.
- Tier 3 with Priest Seto, Ishizu Ishtar (Isis), Paradox (Simon Muran), and Slysheen (Heishin).
- And finally, DarkNite.
- There are more duelists that can be unlocked, like Yami Yugi, Shadi, Bakura, Marik, and Nitemare, but those require passwords and are not needed for the credits.
- Q: What are the passwords you are putting in at the start, and why do they take so long?
- A: I need cards that are good, like 1500+ ATK beaters, Traps, and small deck cost cards that have good type advantages. There's also 44 cards, so...
- Q: How do you go fast?
- A: Not fusing a lot, playing the top card of my deck, not looking at my hand often. Really only fusing big Level 4 monsters like Dark Elf and Blackland Fire Dragon.
- Q: What happens when you lose a duel or about to lose?
- A: I don't reset, 'cause my Gamecube is far from me, and most duels can be played out of. If I do lose, it's whatever. The whole run is good luck, so anything could be made up.
- Q: Who's the toughest?
- A: Priest Seto. 3 Change of Heart, 3 Megamorph (only +500 ATK/DEF), 3 Dark Hole, 3 Raigeki, 3 Brain Control. Enough said.
- Q: What are good drops?
- A: Rituals, low cost beaters (Dragon Zombie, Jirai Gumo, 7 Colored Fish, Giant Red Seasnake), Traps (Invisible Wire, Acid Trap Hole, Widespread Ruin).
- Q: How do you not know what do take out for a good drop?
- A: 'Cause I still don't know good strats for drops that almost never happen. Not like FM where anything can be moved. The early game of the run is very tight on deck capacity.
- Q: Why don't you fuse bigger monsters like THTD?
- A: Not being able to attack the turn I make cards isn't worth fusing a lot. Also, no Thunders. The biggest you'll see is most likely either Black Dragon Jungle King and Mystical Sand.
- Q: Do you like the run as a whole?
- A: Yes. It's like Eternal Duelist Soul, where 1 duel doesn't mean the run is dead and unlike FM, I won't get bodied over and over 'cause of a bad seed and bad frame.
- Q: These are the correct Yugioh rules!!!11!!!!!!!
- A: No shit, idiot.
