  1. [02:53] Somecrazyguy $life perk
  2. [02:53] [ATM] Somecrazyguy [Life Perk 77]: Soma. The character has a strong body. They get their choice of +1 Guts, +1 Brawn, or +1 Athletic. The increased stat cannot be lowered to pay for another stat.
  3. [02:53] [ATM] This perk requires some minor effort to maintain. Roughly ten hours a week go into activities that help them maintain this benefit, often exercising, going to the gym, sparring, running, or something else that's relatively enriching. Available time for other activities is reduced so long as this perk is so maintained, taking 125% as long.
  4. [02:53] Somecrazyguy the fuck?
  5. [02:53] Somecrazyguy what a crap perk to roll. "Have something you could have gotten with IG effort anyway"
  6. [02:54] Somecrazyguy $life perk
  7. [02:54] [ATM] Somecrazyguy [Life Perk 5]: Emotionally stable. Character resists initial unpowered attempts at affecting their emotions. Powered attempts are more easily resisted, or effect is delayed in taking hold/effect.
  8. [02:54] Somecrazyguy $life perk
  9. [02:54] [ATM] Somecrazyguy [Life Perk 53]: Famous Deed. The character achieved something or was involved in an event in the past, and they're recognized for it. They might have been involved in a fight with/the ultimate defeat of a notable villain before coming to the city and their reputation precedes them, or they were a musician before finding their current career and people recognize them for their work.
  10. [02:54] [ATM] This manifests as recognition and cachet with the low-level rabble. Rather than belong to a singular organization they can call in favors with, they get a bonus to dealings with the nameless mooks and faces in a crowd, and can call in favors.
  11. [02:54] [ATM] These favors work the same way as others do, with diminishing returns or even backlash if used too often in a short period of time, but can apply to anyone who isn't notable enough to have a name or be a recurring character, who doesn't have reason to hate the character. They might offer an autograph to a security guard of a club in exchange for backdoor access, or mention that cool thing they did once to convince some gangsters of an opposing gang to switch sides.
  12. [02:54] Mishie uhhhh
  13. [02:54] Mishie Soma is a fucking huge perk
  14. [02:55] Somecrazyguy I have to disagree
  15. [02:55] Somecrazyguy mainly because you can get the same perk without rolling on the damn chart
  16. [02:55] Somecrazyguy and it's kind of a waste because of that
  17. [02:55] Mishie you can only get it with a gm that dose milestones
  18. [02:55] Mishie and y'know
  19. [02:55] Mishie after doing said milestone
  20. [02:56] Somecrazyguy the milestones are different
  21. [02:56] Somecrazyguy stat boosts from that are permanent here-you-gos
  22. [02:56] Mishie and I'm fairly sure that you can only get stat boosts from that
  23. [02:56] Mishie unless training was changed yet again
  24. [02:56] Nonagon You can't up Brawn from exercising a bunch anymore, I don't think.
  25. [02:56] Mishie because iirc that was just for skills
  26. [02:56] Somecrazyguy seriously
  27. [02:56] Somecrazyguy that's kind of dumb
  28. [02:57] Mishie yeah
  29. [02:57] Somecrazyguy if my character does stronglifts 5x5 for a month he should be stronger
  30. [02:57] Somecrazyguy especially if he was a brawn 2 character at start
  31. [02:57] Mishie which is why having +1 to a stat can be huge
  32. [02:57] Wildbow We'll implement something at some point
  33. [02:57] Wildbow But it was being broken so regularly it's not worth it at this point
  34. [02:57] Mishie yeah
  35. [02:57] Mishie training was just...
  36. [02:57] Somecrazyguy I...guess I get that, yeah.
  37. [02:57] Mishie training was just too easy to abuse
  38. [02:57] Nonagon Though, it is kind of an issue that there are several life perks that are just things you can get from normal milestone use, or even in some cases slightly worse (e.g. three points Empathy).
  39. [02:58] Somecrazyguy I feel like it would be a lot easier if we had a regular schedule for each character
  40. [02:58] Mishie it was the perfect rich get richer mechanic
  41. [02:58] Wildbow It's a prety sizable bonus.
  42. [02:58] Wildbow Especially when starting out
  43. [02:58] Wildbow *pretty
  44. [02:58] Somecrazyguy I really disagree, but it looks like I'm overruled.
  45. [02:58] Mishie old training rules where you got free points just for having a job, and you could also get a point from taking a class?
  46. [02:58] Mishie You could max out a skill in about two weeks
  47. [02:58] Mishie if not less
  48. [02:59] Somecrazyguy tbf having a job does make sense with skill points if you're in a specialized field
  49. [02:59] Somecrazyguy ie a biologist should know about biology, doctor should know about doctoring
  50. [02:59] Mishie yeah but it shouldn't be a way to just get free points
  51. [02:59] Nonagon It 'makes sense' to let you deadlift to pump Brawn, but there's a reason there's no such mechanic in such a set of systems as diverse as D&D, Fate, and Hero.
  52. [03:00] Mishie mhm
  53. [03:00] Somecrazyguy Because those are all based on fantasy
  54. [03:00] Mishie I can't think of a single system off the top of my head that allows you to just grind stats or skills like that
  55. [03:00] Mishie uh
  56. [03:00] Somecrazyguy Worm is more grounded in the real world
  57. [03:00] Somecrazyguy than any of those
  58. [03:00] Mishie Uhhhh
  59. [03:00] Mishie Uhhhhhh
  60. [03:00] Somecrazyguy really mish
  61. [03:00] Nonagon Fate is pulp, Hero is superheroes. GURPS also doesn't let you deadlift to pump ST, I don't think.
  62. [03:01] Nonagon and GURPS is "heroic realism"
  63. [03:01] Somecrazyguy Hero is broken as fuck as i recall
  64. [03:01] Somecrazyguy also
