  1. These are notes for an Ochette solo speedrun in Octopath Traveler II.
  2.
  3. (Sample vids are on my YT channel as always; Pastebin is blocking the links for some reason. Just search "AnimeFanX11" and scroll vids for the non-mic or commentated versions. There's also a sample run that was featured on Games Done Quick for the "Disaster Relief Done Quick" Marathon, which has commentary as well.)
  4.
  5. This route uses Beast Lore and Befriend more than other routes to try to save resources and be more efficient in fights. It also skips more areas to save time, but there's parts of exploration that become more dangerous as a result. However, I did try to make it reasonably consistent with an "answer" for every encounter. (There are 3 extra M stones routed for specific bad encounters - you may end up not seeing those encounters and thus not use any of those stones.)
  6.
  7. (Btw, at the end of these notes are extra tips for running this, money skip notes, Dark Entity backup, and cait/puff differences for anyone interested.)
  8.
  9. Also, thanks to:
  10. - Dalia for his work on the first solos of this, which I took some ideas from
  11. - Z3R01337 for his single story notes, which I also took parts from
  12. - Doid for answering my questions, especially for calculating the odds in some battles
  13.
  14. Notation: x4 is max boost, x1 is unboosted. TP means teleport, HH means Hired Help, and most other abbreviations are skills or items like Fire M meaning Fire Soulstone (M). Just walk through the notes while following a video, and it should be clear.
  15.

  33. - cursor resets after he summons/eats a spawn (go Up first time, random next time depending on what's eaten)
  34. - goal is two precise shots (x3/x4) early before he summons, dont want to overdamage, and want to count crit damage
  35. - axe normally hits for 35 but crits for 45 (so +10)
  36. - precise hits are 105 but crits for 130 (so +25)
  37. - thunderbirds are 50 ish (so +15 over axe, but it's enough damage to unlock Latent in time)
  38. [small adds deal 14 each, big boss deals 45 normal, 86 dark breath, he uses it every few turns for ~3 times total in battle]

  304. T1: Thunder L - during Provoke later at Montwise, break two extra times and use 2 Thunder M + Armor Eater on the breaks. If you preserve the Light M in Tera's dungeon or the Ice M in Northern Montwise Pass, those can substitute the Thunder M in Southern Stormhail Snows, but if you use up both, you can get the Shadow M by full walking the North Montwise Pass. 480. Backup money strats: unequip and sell 1400 Traveler's Bow, 1200 chest in Throne 1 dungeon, and/or 2500 Herb of Serenity far outside Canalbrine (KO encounter w/ Tera)
  481.
  482. TP Totohaha, start Ochette Chapter 3
  483. Use inn for latent + heal
  484.
  485. If you didn't check in the Glacis battle, check your Status screen to see the EXP to level up.
  486.
  487. Battles:
  488. First: Light M, Glacis (or Grape M if there's a free turn and you know you will not level off the next battle)
  489. Second: Defend, HHG x4 (7% range missing ~100 dmg, finish with Armor Eater ~180 or M stone if needed; can Sidestep if first anyway or heal)
  490. Third: Latent Roar, Glacis
  491. - first battle gives 300 exp, second battle gives 510 exp
  492. - watch EXP in first battle and if you won't level up after second, optionally heal/Grape M if you get the range in the second or if there's a free turn in the first
  493.
  494. Heal HP
  495. Walk whole map
  496. Save
  497. Get Pom L
  498.
  499. In next map, run and save again
  500. Get Rev Jam
  501. Battle on the way: Ice L, Glacis
  502. Go back down and save
  503. Don't heal as boss auto heals you prefight.
  504.
  505. Darkling - 96k, 7 shields (Spear/Dagger/Fire/Thunder/Light once it has changed forms)
  506.
  507. T1: Cataracta x4 (mandatory)
  508. T2: Pom L
  509. T3: Sidestep x4
  510. T4: Grape M/Sidestep x3
  511.
  512. If Ochette was attacked and the boss changed forms with Ochette doing her dialogue, you should Grape M. If the dialogue/form change hasn't happened yet, you should do Sidestep x3. The Grape M reduces the chance Night Howl will KO you (he can do NH on back to back rounds too in first few turns btw). If Grape M, do Sidestep x4, and continue from T5 of the script.
  513.
  514. T5: Rev Jam (or delay and use Pom L if you did Grape M)
  515. T6: Sidestep x4
  516. T7: Summon NPC
  517. T8: Sidestep x4
  518. T9: Reinforcing Jam (or adjust)
  519.
  520. Adjust from here depending on what the NPC does, and continue to use BP items and Sidestep x4, Sidestep x3, Re-summon, etc. The NPC will always break 1, 2, or 3 shields, so be ready with BP if the boss might be broken. Once broken, do:
  521.
  522. broken HH Vets x4
  523.
  524. Then repeat the process (BP item, Sidestep x4, Summon, etc) and do two more:
  525.
  526. broken HH Vets x4
  527. broken HHB x4 (with defense down from Latent Roar or HH Ruffians x2 if you mistimed your Latent. It may be possible to do this when he has 1 shield remaining as there's a lot of excess damage from Bright Bolt as well)
  528.
  529. Note that the third one requires Ochette roaring (Beastly Howl) on the breaking turn or turn before. Ex, if the boss is at 2 shields, you can Latent Roar to bring him to 1 shield, then the NPC will break (or you do Mole on the turn after), and you can do HHB x4. The above three HHs can be used in any order as well.
  530.
  531. If HP is getting low, use your second Rev Jam as your BP item (it'll usually be the last BP item you use). If you run out of BP items, just use Sidestep x1 as the NPC chips the shields. You can also use Spear or Wild Mole to do 1-2 shield breaks to help speed up the battle.
  532.
  533. Time is on the first frame of the FIN screen. GG!

  541.
  542. Dark Entity Backup:
  543. - if you overdamage Dark Entity, he will summon early. Continue with script as normal but he will do his charge 1 turn sooner, so you'll need to do Axe x2 to break and will only have 2 boost points for the Latent. Swap it to the singular LP Beastly Fang x3 and then finish the enemy off with Precise Shots, using Grapes every so often. Then finish the adds off with Precise shots. This loses a lot of time due to the small thing's animations, but it at least lets you win and get through the battle.
  544.
  545. Cait/Puff differences:
  546. - if early Cait/Puff before Black Market, try boosted Latent Fang
  547. - if early Cait/Puff after Black Market, can use Shad M/Wind M. Then try to walk and Provoke + Flee one of the Conning NPCs, optionally saving along the way.
  548. - alternatively, just ignore the Cait/Puff, as they don't actually help a ton in this route
  549.
  550. Money skips (cait 3k/cultured 10k/chubby 50k and puff 1.5k/queen 3k/king 25k):
  551. I recommend just skipping the next comparable money item(s) to make it easier to remember. Can also use more HHG if a lot of money. Examples:
  552. - Clockbank 6300
  553. - Large Silver Ore 6400 (can run whole tunnels)
  554. - Raging Beast 7000 (running from Sanctum Knight provoke lets you reach town)
  555. - Knight Armor 3040 (go to right shop instead)
  556. Note that every extra chapter 2 battle for the Meep gives about 750 leaves as well.
  557.
  558. General tips:
  559. - if you can afford early Hale and Hearty, that means you took extra encounters, so you'll have extra money and don't need Grows on Trees either
  560. - a few NPC/battles have chances to drop useful M stones as spares anywhere
  561. - try to preserve 1 Jerky for an inn at the final chapter, can use Grape M/Apothecary/food for healing. (If Grape M run low, it means you probably took extra encounters for Meep and caught at least some extra food.)
  562. - this guide says to walk on some maps, but always run on ladders as step counter isn't affected
  563. - some battles are better done at night, but always go to day afterward
  564. - if there's an action you need at the end of a battle like watching for exp or a drop, I may list that as an extra turn to emphasize it
  565. - we need 3 Quality Jerky in this run, so track the monsters you capture. Wild Moles in Crackridge give them when cooked, and we need 3 by Stormhail. (4 Mole captures are routed, but only 3 are mandatory in case you're caught by surprise and cannot capture them all. Having a 4th does sometimes help for the final boss but isn't necessary.)
  566. - you can also do the final boss with only 1 Vets but 2 Beastlings for 60k instead of 75k, thus saving 15k, but it's a range (that said, it's a very favorable range though, and you can finish NPC or monster summons/stones if needed). The issue is you need to get off Latent Roar twice before the beastlings, and it's a harder fight BP wise and timing wise, as you cannot predict your NPC. This is an option if you'd like to practice and do that fight though. (In fact, it's possible to do the battle with just 45k and three Beastlings, as long as you get some bonus damage from L stones or Glacis/Tera, but it is much harder to do resource wise and is very inconsistent without more BP items, which are slow to grab, making it not worthwhile IMO.) To do the 1V2B fight, you'll want to spend more time at 3-5 BP, so using singular Sidestep x1 or Wild Mole x1 or Latent Roar x1 and rely on the Clan Mei NPC cooperating.

  574.
  575. Personal route notes:
  576. - if good turn order on Tera, test swapping HHG x4 to HHG x2 and try to KO with Vets x4 on break.
  577. - better ordering of monster captures in the menu, maybe leaving auto capture off and hope for no Caught by Surprise
  578. - test armor eater animation vs small randoms vs tera animation. If no Defend for x4, may be faster?
  579. - T4 on Darkling, summon NPC instead, to have chance they tank an attack and protect to decrease chance of being knocked out at 1 HP against Darkling's Night Howl. Maybe retest other NPC or HHV/HHB usages to fight more efficiently EDIT: nvm, summons don't seem to tank magic attacks, so it's not worth summoning NPC to tank since we'll have sidesteps and magic would reach us anyway through a summon - better to be efficient for BP
  580. - skip ch3 rev jam and the enc, maybe replace with gravell pom L/beastfood or just fight more efficiently
  581. - look into Roar-> Tera/Glacis to KO more encounters like in Montwise tunnels
  582. - yolo captures for Tera/Glacis range from about 7%-12% at extremely low red HP (which requires HH Vets/Beastlings to reach), so definitely not worth. Plus Glacis will freeze Ochette at place at lower HP, which will make her lose her turns and get KOed. Similarly, Tera has Sneeze that's an instant loss.
  583. - armor eater etc on montwise randoms?
  584. - look into Wild Steak -> Catapult for path to tera and some backup KOs on pig hunt (gives HP + patk up), also other foods
