  11. Backstory: The Dragon King of Lạc, the husband to Âu Cơ, the mother of the hundred children who were the origin of the Vietnamese people.

  13. Descended from Dragons, Long Quan was born with a strong physique, a sharp mind, and a fascination for the ocean, often found on the shoreline or in its waters engaging with the sealife. Before being wed to join the low coastal lands and the high mountains into what eventually became Vietnam, the Dragon King defeated several monsters that terrorized the people, including Ngu Tinh, a colossal fish monster that terrorized sailors and consumed fishing boats whole, Ho Tinh, a thousand year old nine-tailed fox that tricked and tormented villagers with their transformative abilities, before taking, torturing and eating them, and an evil djin that surprised and tortured innocents.

Long Quan's battles were long and required both his endurance and intellect whether it was the razor covered iron doll heated red hot to bait Ngu Tinh before engaging with it one on one, or seeing through the illusory tricks of ancient monsters. The Dragon King of Lac overcame these challenges, bringing peace to the coast until those of the northern mountains invaded the south. In his pursuit of peace between the two, Long Quan went to meet with the northern invaders, leading to meeting Au Co, a fairy princess and the chieftain's daughter. She fell in love at first sight, and Long Quan too in return, the Dragon King of Lac easily repelling the chieftain with his magical abilities to protect Au Co, leading to their marriage and the unification of the two cultures
  16. and the birth of their 100 sons who quickly matured, inheriting the strength, intelligence, beauty and kindness of their parents.

  18. Eventually the two came to realize that they were like water and fire, their customs and habits too different for them to mix together, leading to their separation. Each parent took 50 of their sons, Au Co returning to the mountains and Long Quan to the sea, where they would raise their children, giving them land and teaching them how to live and prosper, building the foundation of what would become Vietnam.
