  9. How hackers are buying Chipotle with your money
  10. PHOENIX — Strangers eating and drinking on your dime. but you don't know it until it's too late.
  11. Josh in Phoenix let me know he received an email from Chipotle Mexican Grill letting him know his order was ready.
  12. And it was a big order: six chicken burritos, large queso and chips, and several chicken tacos. In all, $115 worth of food.
  13. And Josh didn't order any of it.
  14. His Chipotle mobile app account was hacked and somebody in Tempe was preparing to feast on his dime.
  15. The company almost immediately canceled his account, but we found this has been happening for months.
  16. One consumer says he got "6 $1000 charges on my credit card for chipotle. Bank took care of it. who bought 882 chicken burritos?" Another says, ". the orders were in different states throughout the country."
  17. And ". $479 for 24 different orders. . the day after i signed up for their new rewards program and stored my cc info."
  18. So how does this happen? In a statement, a Chipotle spokesperson says in part: "We are among the many retail, hotel and restaurant companies affected by credential stuffing. "
  19. That's when scammers flood websites' stolen usernames and password combinations to gain access to accounts.
  20. If you use similar passwords across various accounts, experts say it makes yours more vulnerable.
  21. A couple of ways to protect yourself here:
  22.
  23. Don't save your payment information
  24. Use two-factor authentication whenever you can. That requires a pass code sent to your phone or email (in addition to your user name and password) before allowing access to your account.
  25.
  26. If you experience similar problems, you can contact Chipotle here.

  28. Chipotle's app users claim their accounts are being hacked
  29. As app-based ordering goes, Chipotle has been ahead of the curve for a while now. The fast-burrito chain’s app allows you to order your meal, pay for it upfront, and pick it up without ever having to wait in one of Chipotle’s occasionally mile-long lines, or even interact with a human being if you aren’t in the mood. The trade-off, as always, is that it requires leaving sensitive credit card information sitting on your phone, waiting to be stolen. And as if their major 2017 data breach wasn’t bad enough, it looks like Chipotle may have been hoodwinked by hackers yet again.
  30. TechCrunch reports that users have been flocking to Reddit and Twitter to complain of another rash of fraudulent activity. Also, the issues seem to date back to the beginning of April, which is. not great. Most of the complaints so far suggest a similar pattern of behavior: passwords being changed, strange charges appearing on bank statements, and expensive meals being ordered in other parts of the country.
  31. In reply to TechCrunch, spokesperson Laurie Schalow said that the company is “monitoring any possible account security issues of which we’re made aware and continue to have no indication of a breach of private data of our customers.” Instead, Schalow points to “credential stuffing” as a culprit, in which hackers “take lists of usernames and passwords from other breached sites and brute-force their way into other accounts.” However, some of the users affected said that they used different passwords for their Chipotle logins.
  32. Normally, you’re supposed to update passwords every few months. Most people do not do this, and The Takeout recognizes this fact. But as smartphones continue to mandate that more and more personal data also exists online, it might be worth getting into the habit, before somebody on the opposite coast orders $78 in chips and guac on your dime.
  33. Juice for all This citrus juicer can be used to get liquid out of a range of fruits, is really easy to clean, has a measuring cup, and is completely manual, so there’ll be no noise.
  34. Account hacked.
  35. I got an email from chipotle ordering for an order in another state that I definitely did not place and it was charged to my credit card. Is there a number to contact to get my money back? I called the store it was ordered to but they couldn't do anything
  36. Contact your credit card company and report it as a fraudulent charge
  37. happened to me twice now, I called the store where the charges occurred and the manager refused to refund the order, even thought the people who ordered the food could not provide the card, name on the card or verifiable information.
  38. Just contact your bank as a fraudulent charge, dealing with chipotle customer service isnt worth it.
  39. It’s not about the manager refusing to do it, it’s that they’re not allowed to refund online orders at the store level currently.
  40. We can’t void charges or refund online orders in store. But the manager you talked to should’ve handled this better.
  41. I had a customer call in a couple days ago with the same problem and I had the issue resolved for them by the end of the night and had our local pd find whoever decided it would be smart to get delivery with a stolen credit card.
  42. I’ve seen people post about their account getting hacked numerous times on Reddit. The app doesn’t seem secure at all.
  43. The app itself is very secure, no hacks
  44. People go on forums and buy logins from other hacks and try them on websites like chipotle, selling any valid logins
  45. if you don't reuse passwords, you won't get hacked on chipotle unless they get hacked
  46. This happened to me two weeks ago. I worked with my bank but also sent an email to customer service at Chipotle. Sone got back to me a week later. I could no longer access my account. I had to give ten sone of fraudulent purchases They located my account and deactivated. I gave my bank the person from Chipotle information
  47. Same thing happened to me! Two orders twice in a row on Friday. It was placed on chipotle but fulfilled by doordash. I disputed the charges with both my bank and doordash.
  48. Heyyy late to the party, I'm a GM and its happened numerous times in our store. Customers called the store and explained someone stole their information and we had cops waiting there when the person came to pick up the order and then they handled it from there. We can refund online orders but not in store.
  49. My wife's Chipotle account was hacked yesterday, they changed her display name and placed about $190 in orders simultaneously in Denver and Long Island. Citi shut them down, and we regained control of the account.
  50. Chipotle needs to rethink security on their app and online accounts.
  51. Just got hacked in Long Island. I froze my card after the 3rd charge. It's infuriating that Chipotle allows someone to change your email with no confirmation. I'm left with no recourse while some fuckhead stole $90 from me. Thanks, Chipotle!
  52. Happened to me too last night. Three orders in three different cities within minutes of each other. Seemed to be fulfilled by DoorDash but placed through Chipotle’s site/app. On the first two orders they used my name, but on the third order they changed my first name, to what I am assuming is theirs. This is crazy. I’m seeing this happens all of the time. Chipotle needs to get there act together. Called the bank and they are working on it and I emailed Chipotle since it seems they don’t have a phone number.
