Bio: Rosalind was the result of a wandering drow's dalliance with a barmaid. The drow left town long before anyone knew Rosalind's mother was pregnant, and the shame of a bastard child prompted mother and child to flee to Kinder, a small village in [distant backwoods area]. In short order Peggy Green's heart was won by Hugo Battye, a quiet, thoughtful lumberjack, and the two married and sired Rosalind a younger sister, Petunia.
Petunia and Rosalind grew up happily as children, inseparable friends despite their differences, Petunia being a friendly feminine girl and Rosalind being a retiring tomboy. When Petunia fell deathly ill, Rosalind became enthralled with Mother Dewfinger's efforts to heal her. Petunia came through, and in adolescence Rosalind became Mother Dewfinger's apprentice. Though the area understood her mainly as a witch, Mother Dewfinger's abilities and practises were mainly mundane – she had a particular policy of refraining from magical solutions when other answers presented themselves. In time, Mother Dewfinger passed away and Rosalind took up her position as the area's healer. Though she appreciated what Dewfinger had taught her, she felt nagging curiosity – her teacher had known how to cure people, but not always why the cure worked, or how they came to be ill in the first place. Rosalind took on an apprentice of her own in time, and conducted what research she could in the meantime.
When she felt her apprentice was ready, Rosalind made preparations to travel and seek out knowledge of medicine, anatomy, alchemy, herbology, and whatever else captured her interest, as well as healing and easing suffering wherever she went. She bade her apprentice and her family a fond farewell, and set off.
It has been some years since she left her village. In that time Rosalind has grown as a scholar– learned to fashion explosives and mixtures that alter her body, expanded her repertoire of formulas, picked up a few languages, and saved more than one life along the way. Now, Rosalind finds herself in the Nightrealms, still seeking knowledge and patients.
