- This was intended to test:
- - whether holding different weapons make you sprint faster
- - whether females sprint faster than males
- - the effect of jumping while sprinting
- Methodology:
- Sprinting wall-to-wall on the Forge World map "sprint test" (4 full sprints)
- (I can put this map on Fileshare if necessary, it's not very interesting though)
- Testing the effect of different weapons on sprint, as female player model:
- Weapon Times Average
- Magnum 32.15 32.16 32.18 32.30 32.24 32.206
- AR 32.21 32.09 32.24 32.05 32.17 32.152
- sword 32.17 32.17 32.25 32.33 32.06 32.196
- DMR 32.15 32.20 32.24 32.03 32.24 32.172
- sniper 32.25 32.28 32.16 32.24 32.26 32.238
- rockets 32.17 32.30 32.16 32.16 32.24 32.206
- PP 32.15
- By this point I was satisfied there was no actual effect, and decided to move on to the male player model.
- Weapon Times Average
- Magnum 32.23 32.18
- laser 32.26
- hammer 32.31 32.13
- Being satisfied with the results, I moved on to testing jumping. I tested two things: bunnyhopping while sprinting (not jumping in between) and jumping at the end of a sprint (to preserve momentum). Bunnyhopping proved to be problematic because you could either go faster (by jumping at the end of a sprint) or slower (by jumping at the beginning of one, before peak acceleration).
- Tech Times Average
- bhop 31.57 33.36
- endjump 31.02 31.09 30.89 30.66 30.93 30.918
- Conclusions
- I see no evidence for any difference in sprint speed between different player model or weapon. Human error in hitting the timer is the biggest reason why times may differ slightly.
- The best technique is to jump at the end of a sprint to preserve momentum. More precisely timed jumps will lead to lower times. Always do this if possible.
- Yet To Be Tested
- - whether map variables on campaign maps affect sprint speed differently
- - whether looking at ground while 'snaking' makes you sprint faster (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMarMor2FOg)
- - whether females have smaller hitboxes
- - whether different armor has smaller hitboxes
