  1. This was intended to test:
  2. - whether holding different weapons make you sprint faster
  3. - whether females sprint faster than males
  4. - the effect of jumping while sprinting
  5.
  6. Methodology:
  7. Sprinting wall-to-wall on the Forge World map "sprint test" (4 full sprints)
  8. (I can put this map on Fileshare if necessary, it's not very interesting though)
  9.
  10. Testing the effect of different weapons on sprint, as female player model:
  11. Weapon Times Average
  12. Magnum 32.15 32.16 32.18 32.30 32.24 32.206
  13. AR 32.21 32.09 32.24 32.05 32.17 32.152
  14. sword 32.17 32.17 32.25 32.33 32.06 32.196
  15. DMR 32.15 32.20 32.24 32.03 32.24 32.172
  16. sniper 32.25 32.28 32.16 32.24 32.26 32.238
  17. rockets 32.17 32.30 32.16 32.16 32.24 32.206
  18. PP 32.15
  19. By this point I was satisfied there was no actual effect, and decided to move on to the male player model.
  20. Weapon Times Average
  21. Magnum 32.23 32.18
  22. laser 32.26
  23. hammer 32.31 32.13
  24.
  25. Being satisfied with the results, I moved on to testing jumping. I tested two things: bunnyhopping while sprinting (not jumping in between) and jumping at the end of a sprint (to preserve momentum). Bunnyhopping proved to be problematic because you could either go faster (by jumping at the end of a sprint) or slower (by jumping at the beginning of one, before peak acceleration).
  26. Tech Times Average
  27. bhop 31.57 33.36
  28. endjump 31.02 31.09 30.89 30.66 30.93 30.918
  29.
  30.
  31. Conclusions
  32. I see no evidence for any difference in sprint speed between different player model or weapon. Human error in hitting the timer is the biggest reason why times may differ slightly.
  33. The best technique is to jump at the end of a sprint to preserve momentum. More precisely timed jumps will lead to lower times. Always do this if possible.
  34.
  35. Yet To Be Tested
  36. - whether map variables on campaign maps affect sprint speed differently
  37. - whether looking at ground while 'snaking' makes you sprint faster (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMarMor2FOg)
  38. - whether females have smaller hitboxes
  39. - whether different armor has smaller hitboxes
