background : madeline’s family relocated to san diego, california, usa when she was very young for her father’s job. you can take the girl from korea, but not the korea out of the girl. she grew up in an amalgamation of korean and american traditions, and as such found herself singing along to high school musical and snsd after school. when her family moved back to korea, her parents thought to have her audition for one of those kpop shows, to see if their energetic daughter had what it takes, or to see if the rejection would quiet her down a bit on the whole becoming an idol thing. somehow, she manages to entertain the producers enough that they send her onto kpopstar five, where she gets crushed in the competition by her much older peers. nonetheless, her endearing performance convinced jyp to sign her anyway. she trained at the company until she was not chosen for the final lineup of itzy, at which point she did not renew her contract and left the company. she then began to attend high school as a normal teenager, but maintained her performances online via instagram.  she decided to audition for u-topia now that she is almost finished with high school, and not because she wants to procrastinate her standardized tests she would never do that.
