  1. <Samstrel> You hear a knocking from behind you that disturbs your reading.
  2. <Samstrel> You see two liches behind you.
  3. <Samstrel> They don't move, but just look at you.
  4. * Faerzen_Norstov closes the book lest any unwarranted peeping eyes spy on what he is reading
  5. * Faerzen_Norstov rolls his eyes and turns to see what the source of the noise was
  6. <Samstrel> The liches stare at you and do not move.
  7. <Faerzen_Norstov> You raise an eyebrow at these..... new creatures.
  8. <Samstrel> One of them floats a bit toward you.
  9. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Pardon me, but do you two happen to be members of the race that was responsible for the construction and compilation of this libraries materials?"
  10. * Faerzen_Norstov hesitantly steps back upon seeing one of them approach
  11. <Samstrel> The lich closest to you shakes its head.
  12. * Faerzen_Norstov looks very disappointed
  13. <Samstrel> The lich comes closer to you.
  14. <Faerzen_Norstov> "......Perhaps security personelle or staff? I really would appreciate it if you would stop doing that!"
  15. * Faerzen_Norstov quickly grabs the two books he was reading and flaps his wings a couple times to hop up on a nearby bookshelf
  16. <Samstrel> The lich floats behind you, and the other moves to the side.
  17. <Samstrel> They both look at you.
  18. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Okay, if you insist upon being obstinate and unhelpful, then what is it that you want???"
  19. <Samstrel> They look at the door to the courtyard.
  20. <Faerzen_Norstov> "You desire for me to venture outside? For what reason? You still have not even remotely addressed the *quite* pertinent issue of your identity!"
  21. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I do not intend to travel anywhere with you until you answer my questions!"
  22. <Samstrel> They look at each other and speak in a language you cannot understand.
  23. <Samstrel> They look at you again and point at the door.
  24. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I do believe I made myself quite clear, I will not be going anywhere until you elucidate this uncertainty! I understand if you, for some reason, cannot communicate effectively with me, but there are many other viable modes of communication you can implement!"
  25. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Draw a picture perhaps? Show me a relevant book?"
  26. <Samstrel> The lich to the side goes to a blank piece of paper laying on a bookshelf and grabs a utensil to write.
  27. <Samstrel> It draws a skull and cross bones.
  28. <Samstrel> It holds it to you and points to you.
  29. * Faerzen_Norstov raises an eyebrow
  30. <Faerzen_Norstov> "It is already plain to see that you are quite skeletal in nature to begin with and that your head is essentially a skull so that would hardly require a picture to convey. Do you mean to say that you want me to become like this drawing?"
  31. <Samstrel> It then points to the door.
  32. <Samstrel> It turns the paper over.
  33. <Samstrel> It begins to draw a house and show it to you.
  34. <Samstrel> Then points to itself.
  35. <Faerzen_Norstov> "You.... live here?"
  36. <Samstrel> It nods.
  37. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Very...... intriguing. Why is it that you want me to venture outside? I dare say I have already been out in that courtyard and perused quite a great deal of the scenery and books the locale has to offer."
  38. <Samstrel> It reiterates what it just conveyed.
  39. <Samstrel> It begins to look somewhat angry.
  40. <Faerzen_Norstov> "As much as I must say I appreciate your place of residence, the simple fact that you call this place home is not sufficient for me to follow you! Other entities have attempted to trick me before. It is nearly just as probably that you are a monster intent on harming me as you are a helpful resident librarian that somehow survived The Nothing!"
  41. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I apologize if you find that significantly irksome, but you cannot take me for such a simple fool to follow two strangers so blindly!"
  42. <Samstrel> They look at each other and laugh.
  43. <Samstrel> They both point to the door.
  44. * Faerzen_Norstov grits his teeth in frustration
  45. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I already told you, NO! Why is it so hard to simply reveal the reason behind your desire for me to go outside?"
  46. <Samstrel> He keeps reiterating the house picture.
  47. <Samstrel> It*
  48. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Either it is something so complex and mystical that you could not possibly convey it to me, or it is a reason that, if conveyed properly, would quickly convince me not to follow your desires. The latter seems more probable, I dare say."
  49. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Pointing to a house repeatedly is not conveying any additional information!"
  50. <Samstrel> The lich behind you tries to push you off the bookcase.
  51. * Faerzen_Norstov moves in the direction the creature was pushing him and glides a couple bookcases over
  52. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Holy Jurgen FUCK, what is your deal???"
  53. <Samstrel> They run to you. They look mad.
  54. * Faerzen_Norstov reaches inside the front of his dress, flipping the switch to turn it on
  55. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I hardly see why the onus for the recent events, and thus your frustrations, should lie squarely on my shoulders! It is you who have failed to be forthcoming with your intentions!"
  56. <Samstrel> They scratch the book case trying to push you off.
  57. <Faerzen_Norstov> "You are willing to damage the furniture of your own home simply in an effort to get me to relocate myself where you desire?"
  58. <Samstrel> They nod.
  59. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Then answer this: WHY???"
  60. <Samstrel> They point at the house picture.
  61. <Faerzen_Norstov> "That is unhelpful, as I have already said!"
  62. <Samstrel> They point at the house, and the skull and cross bones.
  63. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I have no intention of harming your house, which I should mention is a publicly accessible library resource that I am authorized to use, so being willing to damage your own residence simply for the reason of expelling me from your house is entirely unreasonable!"
  64. <Samstrel> The ground begins to shake.
  65. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I have legal authorization to be here from the library itself, and you have no right to attempt to forcefully remove me!"
  66. <Samstrel> The liches look panicked.
  67. <Faerzen_Norstov> "What is that?"
  68. <Samstrel> They keep pointing at the door, and try to shake you down.
  69. * Faerzen_Norstov pulls out his crossbow in displeased uncertainty
  70. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Answer me, what is that?"
  71. <Samstrel> They get very scared.
  72. <Samstrel> They run behind you and try to knock you down.
  73. <Samstrel> It looks like they are using you as a shield.
  74. <Faerzen_Norstov> "You clearly seem to fear whatever is behind that vibration a great deal. It would seem advantageous to you to cause me to have the same understanding of whatever that phenomena is."
  75. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Is it The Nothing?"
  76. <Samstrel> They shake their head.
  77. <Samstrel> They keep looking at the door.
  78. * Faerzen_Norstov hops over to a different bookshelf to get away from the two of them
  79. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Is it one of the many monsters that plagues this land?"
  80. <Samstrel> They nod.
  81. <Faerzen_Norstov> "How do you know this? Are you also such creatures?"
  82. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I have never encountered a creature so large it could shake the ground so!"
  83. <Samstrel> They look at each other and cower.
  84. <Faerzen_Norstov> "No refution? Am I to interpret that as a tacit agreement with my previous inquiry then???"
  85. <Samstrel> In the window by the door, you see an eye look at you.
  86. * Faerzen_Norstov furrows his brow in anger, eyes glinting with frustration
  87. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Is that was this was?!?!? You were simply attempting to get me to deal with this monster so you could likewise take me out yourself while I was distracted???"
  88. <Samstrel> They shake their head.
  89. * Faerzen_Norstov hops down from his bookshelf, quickly walking over to the bookshelf he used to be on top of where the liches currently are, and gives a big shove using his wings as extra force to try and topple the bookshelf
  90. <Samstrel> They run away.
  91. <Samstrel> One runs to a book, and looks to the cover.
  92. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Yeah, that's right! And stay away!"
  93. <Samstrel> It holds it up and points to one word.
  94. <Samstrel> HELP
  95. <Faerzen_Norstov> "If I so much as see you while I go investigate that behemoth of a monster, you are going to receive one HELL of a crossbow bolt from this fantastic device I cradle in my arms right here!"
  96. <Samstrel> They run away from you.
  97. <Faerzen_Norstov> "Believe me, if you are attempting to use this opportunity as a means to backstab me, you are going to find yourself in a whole lot more pain than me."
  98. * Faerzen_Norstov turns and walks towards the door to the forbidden section, barely poking his head around to see what it is that is outside
  99. <Samstrel> You look into the courtyard.
  100. <Samstrel> Standing behind two basilisks, is a Giclops.
  101. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((faerzen has never seen a giclops before so could you provide some description for him to work off of?))
  102. <Samstrel> It looks sort of like it was taken out of minecraft.
  103. <Samstrel> ((sure))
  104. <Samstrel> The huge monster looks similar to an ogre. Though has two spikes coming from the top of its head.
  105. <Samstrel> It has one large eye, and small teeth.
  106. <Samstrel> It is very bulky, though is blocky, and colored green.
  107. * Faerzen_Norstov quickly pulls his head back inside the doorway and readies his crossbow
  108. <Samstrel> ((should we roll turns now?))
  109. * Faerzen_Norstov thinks for a moment on which crossbow to choose, before eventually settling on the one he already has out
  110. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((up to you))
  111. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((I think it would make more sense to roll after faerzen actually leaves the inside and they can properly fight))
  112. <Samstrel> ((got it))
  113. <Samstrel> ((the enemies havent spotted you, so you can play it how you like at this point))
  114. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((okay that's what I thought))
  115. * Faerzen_Norstov decides that his Alchemist's Crossbow would be best used after he can better assess the creatures strengths and weaknesses, so he loads his Overloaded Crossbow and prepares to make a break for it out the doorway
  116. * Faerzen_Norstov pokes his head out from inside the door again, sizing the enemy up and shooting twice
  117. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+15 investigation
  118. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+15 investigation --> [ 1d20=8 ]{23}
  119. <Samstrel> ((which did he target?))
  120. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((he's investigating the giclops right now))
  121. <Samstrel> ((it worked then))
  122. * Faerzen_Norstov tries extra hard to pinpoint weaknesses and patterns in the behemoth's movements to help his shots be more true as he knows little to nothing about how armored or resilient these beasts are
  123. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((ie advantage on attack))
  124. <Samstrel> ((got it))
  125. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2#d20+6-2 first attack with advantage
  126. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2#d20+6-2 first attack with advantage --> [ 1d20=2 ]{6}, [ 1d20=1 ]{5}
  127. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((wow those were some rubbish rolls :P))
  128. <Samstrel> ((lol tru))
  129. <Samstrel> The bolt fires and hits the Giclops.
  130. <Samstrel> ((can you roll damage?))
  131. * Faerzen_Norstov winces as he felt that bolt go off wrong, but is pleasantly surprised by it somehow still managing to hit
  132. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2d8+6 damage
  133. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2d8+6 damage --> [ 2d8=9 ]{15}
  134. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2#d20+6-2 second attack with advantage
  135. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2#d20+6-2 second attack with advantage --> [ 1d20=10 ]{14}, [ 1d20=16 ]{20}
  136. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((I assume that also hits?))
  137. <Samstrel> ((yes, roll damage again))
  138. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2d8+6 damage
  139. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2d8+6 damage --> [ 2d8=13 ]{19}
  140. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((okay now that Faerzen used his surprise round and the enemies are aware of him, do you want to roll initiative?))
  141. <Samstrel> yep!
  142. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+6 initiative
  143. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+6 initiative --> [ 1d20=17 ]{23}
  144. <Samstrel> !roll 3#1d20-2
  145. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 3#1d20-2 --> [ 1d20=17 ]{15}, [ 1d20=1 ]{-1}, [ 1d20=10 ]{8}
  146. <Samstrel> ((ok, you first, then the monsters))
  147. * Faerzen_Norstov suddenly remembers the fire that the last lizard monster he encountered was so fond of breathing, and decides to distance himself from the books as much as possible
  148. * Faerzen_Norstov bolts from the doorway and runs to the fountain in the center of the courtyard, crouching behind it on the opposite side of the monsters
  149. * Faerzen_Norstov is amazed at the size and resilience of the large monster, so he decides to focus on the smaller ones first, sizing it up before firing at one of the lizards once
  150. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+15 investigation
  151. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+15 investigation --> [ 1d20=19 ]{34}
  152. * Faerzen_Norstov aims carefull at one of the lizards (advantage on attack)
  153. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2#d20+6 attack with advantage
  154. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2#d20+6 attack with advantage --> [ 1d20=15 ]{21}, [ 1d20=13 ]{19}
  155. <Samstrel> Success. Roll damage
  156. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2d8+6
  157. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2d8+6 --> [ 2d8=5 ]{11}
  158. <Samstrel> One of the lizards is hit by your arrow. It becomes startled.
  159. <Samstrel> The lizard that was hit, looks around for you.
  160. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20 for perception
  161. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20 for perception --> [ 1d20=9 ]{9}
  162. <Samstrel> ((you need to roll stealth?))
  163. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((if you want me to))
  164. <Samstrel> ((sure, may help you stay hidden))
  165. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+6 stealth
  166. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+6 stealth --> [ 1d20=20 ]{26}
  167. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((LOL))
  168. <Samstrel> The lizard cannot find you.
  169. <Samstrel> It looks everywhere but behind the fountain.
  170. <Samstrel> He goes back to where he was.
  171. <Samstrel> Though, the other lizard saw your crossbow when you fired.
  172. <Samstrel> He walks over towards the fountain.
  173. <Samstrel> He sees you, and attempts to lunge at you and bite you.
  174. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20 to attack
  175. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20 to attack --> [ 1d20=12 ]{12}
  176. <Samstrel> Instead of lunging at you, it runs past you and runs into a bookshelf.
  177. <Samstrel> The Giclops sees this.
  178. <Samstrel> He looks over to the fountain.
  179. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20-3 for perception
  180. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20-3 for perception --> [ 1d20=19 ]{16}
  181. <Samstrel> He sees your crossbow sticking out, like the other basilisk.
  182. <Samstrel> The giclops moves about 15 feet away from you.
  183. <Samstrel> It slams its fists down.
  184. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20+7
  185. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20+7 --> [ 1d20=4 ]{11}
  186. <Samstrel> The Giclops attempts to slam, but falls flat on it's face. How embarrassing.
  187. <Samstrel> Your turn.
  188. <Samstrel> nvm not your turn :P
  189. <Samstrel> The Giclops stands up and gathers itself. It attempts one more time.
  190. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20+7
  191. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20+7 --> [ 1d20=19 ]{26}
  192. <Samstrel> !roll 2d6+7 for damage
  193. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 2d6+7 for damage --> [ 2d6=10 ]{17}
  194. <Faerzen_Norstov> 61/78 HP
  195. <Samstrel> It successfully slams down and deals 17 damage.
  196. <Samstrel> Your turn.
  197. * Faerzen_Norstov half groans half yells in pain as the massive fist assails him
  198. * Faerzen_Norstov realizes that this monster is quickly going to become a problem so he makes an effort to watch it and avoid its swings
  199. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+15 investigation
  200. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+15 investigation --> [ 1d20=13 ]{28}
  201. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((versus the giclops in case context wasn't clear))
  202. <Samstrel> ((got it))
  203. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((faerzen chooses disadvantage on attack))
  204. <Samstrel> ((okay))
  205. * Faerzen_Norstov turns away momentarily, remaining planted in his spot by the fountain, and fires two bolts at the lizard he shot earlier
  206. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 2#1d20+6-2 for both attacks
  207. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 2#1d20+6-2 for both attacks --> [ 1d20=13 ]{17}, [ 1d20=14 ]{18}
  208. <Samstrel> Successful.
  209. <Samstrel> Roll Damage.
  210. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 4d8+12 damage from both attacks
  211. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 4d8+12 damage from both attacks --> [ 4d8=7 ]{19}
  212. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((wow that was pitiful))
  213. <Faerzen_Norstov> That is all of Faerzens actions
  214. <Samstrel> The lizard collapses from the damage.
  215. <Samstrel> The other lizard however comes running to constrict.
  216. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20+8
  217. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20+8 --> [ 1d20=6 ]{14}
  218. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+6 acrobatics
  219. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+6 acrobatics --> [ 1d20=11 ]{17}
  220. <Samstrel> The lizard misplaces you for the fountain. It instead grapples that, without realizing.
  221. <Samstrel> The giclops sees you, however and attempts to punch you.
  222. <Samstrel> !roll 1d20+7
  223. <Tyche[Dice]> Samstrel rolled : 1d20+7 --> [ 1d20=1 ]{8}
  224. <Samstrel> ((bruh))
  225. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((it also technically has disadvantage but it doesn't matter with that roll lol))
  226. <Samstrel> It misses, and slams it's fist into the ground.
  227. <Samstrel> Your turn.
  228. <Samstrel> nvm
  229. <Samstrel> It gathers itself and tries again.
  230. <Samstrel> !roll 2#1d20+7

  233. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((yup :/))
  234. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((wow it literally crit failed both times. Impressive))
  235. <Samstrel> It misses again. It can't get a break.

  244. * Faerzen_Norstov turns back to the enormous monster to watch it carefully and attempt to evade its attacks
  245. <Faerzen_Norstov> !roll 1d20+15 investigation
  246. <Tyche[Dice]> Faerzen_Norstov rolled : 1d20+15 investigation --> [ 1d20=8 ]{23}
  247. <Faerzen_Norstov> ((choosing disadvantage on attacks))

  320. * Faerzen_Norstov sets the display to HYDROIODIC ACID, a slightly more potent friend of hydrochloric acid
  321. * Faerzen_Norstov decides hanging around in such close vicinity would not be prudent, and moves backwards away from the giclops about 20 feet or so
  322. * Faerzen_Norstov decides to aim for a higher point on the giclops for maximum liquid drainage effect, settling on its upper chest right below its head as aiming for its head specifically seems a bit risky to miss

  351. <Faerzen_Norstov> "See, this here will hardly take any effort at all on my part. Though I hardly dare I can say I know what having my chest completely dissolved into acid feels like, I cannot imagine having yet more crossbow bolts embedded in your torso is going to help much"

  394. * Faerzen_Norstov sighs and ducks to avoid the two attacks yet again
  395. * Faerzen_Norstov walks over to the fountain, looking down at the fallen monster
  396. <Faerzen_Norstov> "I am truly sorry but I am afraid I have to declare our engagement here today a disappointment! I would inform you to relay a message to your superiors to send someone more competent for the next altercation, but that operates under the assumption that you both have superiors and that you will survive this encounter.
