  1. Fulmine approaches Abelard, irritation showing on his face, and tells Abelard that he didn’t expect them to fight together as friends but he at least expects him to leave fulmine alone. Abelard shrugs this off, saying he didn’t expect the son of the tyrant whom they killed to work smoothly and warns him not to cause problems for others. Fulmine scoffs, telling Abelard to take a look in a mirror. Even if he hadn’t been the crown prince, the volume of disrespect he’s received since arriving here (especially from Abelard) is absurd. He asks if Abelard is so quick to judge the son for the sins of the father, to which Abelard replies that lucenira’s sins fall to his shoulders whether he likes it or not. He tells fulmine he’ll have to atone for those sins, but until then Abelard will not see fulmine as fondly as others. If fulmine had no interest in fighting with the same style as the blades, why would he agree to join? Fulmine shrugs, telling him that he’s just looking for a scapegoat. While he agrees that his mother’s sins fall to his shoulders, ultimately he didn’t commit them. There’s a limit to how foolish one can be, and blaming him for something out of his control crosses that line. He admits that he has no fondness for fighting in groups, he can handle himself just fine. He’s here to supervise miyuki, and if there’s no world left what country is he going to restore? Abelard asks why he’d need to supervise miyuki, whom he finds more than capable without that. He agrees with fulmine that he should be helping more if he wishes to bring his country back into good favor but if he wanted to do that he needs to learn how to get along with those he dislikes. Fulmine, coldly, tells him there’s no point in trying to get along with someone who wont put the foot forward first. He’s a ruler before he’s a soldier, why would he ask forgiveness for something he was no accomplice to, why would he even ask forgiveness if the people in this army won’t treat him with respect? He tells Abelard he could care less whether outside countries like caltera. He has his own ideal for caltera, and the only people who could change his mind on how his country should be run are the people themselves. As for miyuki, he has his own reasons for keeping an eye on her, none that concern him. Abelard stops what he’s doing to look at fulmine and hisses that if he intended to do any harm to miyuki, he’d drop him off the face of the planet. He thinks of miyuki as a younger sister and cares for her more than anyone else in the army. In response to his viewpoint, Abelard disagrees heavily, telling him that the way people saw his country impacted things more than he considered, citing that as one of the reasons ardenia and caltera were at odds. Fulmine offers a smug smirk, delighted to have finally gotten under abelard’s skin, as if to ask ‘you’ll do what?’ he immediately confesses he never meant any harm to miyuki, as he said earlier he was there for support, but now that he mentions it… fulmine wonders how Abelard would react if he lost his most important person as well? Should he spit on her grave as well? Then would he understand the pain and humiliation they put him through when he first joined with the blades? Or is he lacking in self awareness? Abelard was reaching his breaking point (something he dislikes, of course), raising his lance and holding it to fulmines chin for several moments, before lowering it again. Abelard tells fulmine that if he ever even thinks about harming miyuki, he’ll make sure that fulmine ends back up in jail where he belongs. Fulmine offers a quiet chuckle, wondering how he intended to lock him up if no one in the blades could stop him? They’d eventually kill him, he’s sure, but how many good soldiers would have to fall first? Abelard gives a hearty chuckle, amused by the audacity of the young prince, threatening to wreak havoc while surrounded like this. He tells him that if things keep going as they are, he might end up in shackles as soon as he gets his hands on that book of his, hell, Abelard might just get the book now and see how long it takes for him to rip out every page, one by one, in front of him. Abelard’s met many people and fulmine was one of the handful who could make him this angry. Fulmine throws his hands up in surrender, telling Abelard that his detective skills sure came in handy, picking a fight here would be fruitless, unless of course he wanted to die. He never had any intentions of picking a fight with any of the blades (sans maybe Abelard), and even if he did he would have done that when they came to kill his mother. The riskiare is a powerful tome, more powerful than anything he’s ever seen in his life, so he had to use it to fight for what was right. He still could give a damn what people think of him, any action he takes could be misconstrued, and Abelard proved that just now. Every step he takes is judged harshly by everyone around him; by his mother, by his subjects, by the other royals, by the blades, by other countries; the list extends on and on. He has neither the time nor the patience to concern himself with such trifles. The only criticism he will take is from his subjects. Abelard returns to what he’s doing, telling fulmine that if he intends to lead caltera in a way the citizens are happy, he needs to think about more than himself and his own ideals and think about he macroeconomics. He tells fulmine that if he were in that position, he’d work more on being sure his citizens were well tended to and his trade with others were as well off. He tells fulmine to get lost, telling him that this conversation was over. Fulmine respects his wishes, but in his head the thinks that he knows that already. Abelard can run his country however he likes, but as he is now he’s in no position to offer criticism or advice.
