So I came to the city chasing some auditions and interviews, and when those all went south, I took whatever I could find. I knew that I'd get another chance if I just saved my money, hedged my bets and waited. And waited. And waited."

"Just when I was going to give up, when I was cleaning out trash cans in dingy offices, I figured it all out. I was coming home from work when my car gets totalled by some guy wearing a fucking quilt and some sort of gimmicky power bracelets. And as I sat and waited for AAA to figure my shit out, I watched Spider-Man chase him down and web him up. I wanted to sue that quilt dude, who I learned was called the Shocker, so I looked him up on Google, and you know what? People gave a shit about him, more than they ever did about me. By the end of the week, I joined a dozen supervillain fansites. I knew about all of Herman's big heists, Gargan's best taunts, the names of Felicia's cats. People cared. They mattered to people. And that's when I figured it out. All you need to make it in this city is a mask, some powers, a good gimmick, and if you're a woman, a nice ass. I could pull that off."

"So I started doing squats and planned my debut. I don't have powers, and I wasn't shelling out for martial arts lessons on a minimum wage, so I started looking through the dump for any old tech that might have been abandoned. A long shot, but it's New York. Then I heard the news: Tinkerer was working on an upgrade to Wilbur's kit. Everybody in the fansites liked Wilbur. Not the best supervillain, but he did the best with what he got before that shithead Castle got to him. It wasn't what I had planned, but that's a start. This city, these supers...they're all based on legacy. When you have a name, you have power. And for me...that name would be Stilt-Man"
