He enjoyed reading about dark topics and writing poems illustrating death. His father loved sumo wrestling, so when the two went to a live match, the father threw his son into the arena. It was not Chiyonofuji that said his name, it was his father. Fearful of what punishment he would receive for defying his father, Chiyonofuji lunged at the wrestlers. After his victory, he was dragged to more matches until earning popularity.
