- 2008: Penn Station, Manhattan. Blackwatch Hitwizard confronts Alex Mercer. When Alex smashes the vial, the hitwizard casts a containment spell on the vial's contents, before vanishing the mess. Then he kills Alex.
- Where do things go when they are vanished? No-one knows.
- June 12, 1988: After a particularly unpleasant run-in with a group of bullies, Hermione reaches out with her magic for *something that will make them go away.* Her accidental magic summons from the ether a pile of gloop that kills her. Thanks to the containment spell, it doesn't go into the environment at all. (Thanks for saving the world, unknown hitwizard. o7) The bullies rapidly vacate the scene lest they be found with the body and accused of murder or something, and stay quiet about it. The Accidental Magic Reversal Squad finds nothing to reverse except Hermione being passed out. Because of her position they guess maybe she used accidental magic to not die after falling off a ledge or something, write it up as nothing important, and leave.
- After waking up, Hermione accidentally consumes her cat (who is later assumed missing presumed run over) and thus discovers her (terrifying) consume ability. And also her super-strength. And immediately resolves to hide it lest the scientists come and take her away.
- Her name shows up as ███████████ on the Marauder's Map because it's a stack of everything she is.
- The Twins conclude that Hermione is actually some sort of lovecraftian horror with a name that transcends language (to be fair they're not far off the mark) and decide 1) never to speak of this, and 2) do not provoke "Hermione Granger" under any circumstances.
- As a neat side effect, it tones their pranks down quite a bit, and they end up focusing their talents a bit more into other things.
- "Black, but with one blood-red hair for every life I've taken."
- Snape vs Hermione
- Hermione:
- >is in ravenclaw
- >does not fuck around
- >is well prepared, and by well prepared, I mean "is at least at OWL level"
- >does not ask stupid questions
- >does not ask questions during class
- Hermione partners with Neville because friends, notices that Neville is freaking scared of Snape, and proceeds to spend the double period deftly intercepting all of Neville's fuckups in between teaching him everything that he really ought to know already but doesn't.
- When the cauldron one desk over explodes (the dunderheads, mutters snape as he starts vanishing the mess) she deftly flips the lid onto their cauldron and drags neville under the desk until weird potion stuff has stopped splattering onto the ground.
- At the end of the lesson, Hermione goes up, presents a fairly long list of potions texts, and politely asks for additional recommendations.
- Snape arches an eyebrow. "Miss Granger. You expect to read all of these?"
- "I already have, Professor." she replies.
- His eyes narrow suspiciously. "Borage," he demands, "Page seventeen."
- Hermione's eyes unfocus and she pauses for a moment. "The best known goals of the alchemists," she recites, "were the transmutation of common metals into Gold and Silver - less well known is plant alchemy, or "Spagyric" - and the creation of a panacea, a remedy that would - "
- "That will be enough, Miss Granger." Snape interjects, and starts scribbling books at the end of Hermione's list. "Neuss, On Potions. Corey, Logic of Potion Synthesis. Bartlett, Primer of Practical Alchemy."
- So he adds a couple of books to round out the glaring gaps in an otherwise newt-level core booklist
- When Hermione comes back saying "I've read them all, now what?" he's going to assign essays
- and not boring normal essays,, all "two feet on why Elemental Synthesis is wrong, Miss Granger."
- (no time limits. No need for time limits.)
- >developing analytical skills
- >making sure you don't pick up incorrect ideas from older texts that are still mostly good
- Once that test (and a few others) is passed - "NEWT supplementary classes are Saturday afternoons at four. You are welcome to attend."
- Meanwhile in the staff meetings, Severus is raving about this absolutely amazing student
- Filius is smug.
- McGonagall is somewhat concerned
- Dumbledore eyetwinkles and refuses to let Severus move Hermione out of the firsties class.
- "But she's not learning anything!" Severus protests.
- Dumbledore chuckles. "On the contrary, my boy, she is learning how to teach others - an important skill, if I say so myself."
- Gringotts security is fucking confused
- "the scanner says she's not who she says she is"
- "but it also says she is who she says she is"
- >arguing goblins
- >problem quickly kicked upstairs
- >branch manager is just like "let her in, you fools, and worry about credentials after she actually has an account"
- >blood (with magic) sample required to open a new account
- >two blood samples, to catch the occasional case of contamination
- >tfw the two blood samples don't match
- >confused goblins
- >manager: "whatever just override it"
- "Don't lose that vault key, Miss Granger."
- panicking goblin clerk: "but how will she identify herself if she loses it"
- manager: "you blithering idiot. How many girls are there who completely scramble our identification spells?"
- ( her unidentifiability is her ID )
- >Scares Ollivander
- >Optional: Knockturn Alley
- >Sorts into Ravenclaw
- >Eats the Troll
- Abilities:
- Consume: Can extrude tendrils that nom another living being. Gains their soul, memories, and skills.
- Shapeshift: Can take the form of anybody she's eaten. Can also change clothing and make other solidstate objects connected to her, like swords, for example.
- Super Strength - can throw cars.
