Making for Urgan with his lance, he wounded him in one eye. With this blow the damned villain was hit fair and square. The grisly giant tore across to where his pole had fallen and, as he lowered his hand to lay hold of it, Tristan, having thrown down his spear, came up at top speed with his sword and struck him just where he wished to, for he cut off his hand as it sought for the pole so that it came to rest on the ground. He then gave the giant a second blow, on the thigh, and drew aside. The injured giant Urgan groped down with his left hand, snatched up the pole, and ran at his deadly enemy. He chased Tristan beneath the trees, with many a fearful twist and turn. In this way the gush of blood that issued from Urgan's wound grew so great that the fiendish man began to fear that his strength and spirit would shortly ebb away.
