<Gara> Everyone is forced out, and walked a short distance. Perception.

<Gara> "I plea guilty."
<Gara> "The punishment for heresy is death. Does anyone oppose this?"
<Snowshoe> Holy shit Straal is in town near where this is happening.
<Gara> Holy shit she sees a bunch of people and June about to get hung.
<Gara> Do you an anything?
<Snowshoe> Who's hanging her?
<Snowshoe> Muscle-wise.
<Gara> There is a big scary as dude with a double crossbow speaking.
<Snowshoe> Anybody else?
<Gara> Not really. The others are with all the other prisoners.
<Puppetmaster> Alana's bound up with the other prisoners.
<Snowshoe> Straal looks at Alanna, because presumably she can see her. How hard would it be to just free her and run?
<Gara> Given as she is chained to the people around her?
<Gara> Very.
<Puppetmaster> And it's presumed Alana can't currently cast spells with somatic components.
<Gara> Nope.
<Snowshoe> Who's guarding the group of prisoners, how many are there, and how heavily armed are they?
<Puppetmaster> Not to mention any divine focuses would be left in her bag or taken by the inquisition.
<Gara> 5 crossbow armed men.
<Snowshoe> How many prisoners?

<Snowshoe> Is there a crowd around here?

<Gara> There are lots of people. /someone/ is going to notice you.

<Snowshoe> How close is the edge of the crowd to the line of prisoners?

<Snowshoe> Straal pushes her way to the edge of the crowd. "Not gonna say I oppose, but I got a few questions."
<Gara> "And what are those, ma'am."
<Snowshoe> "Who are you people and why are you killing random citizens?"
<Gara> "We are the Inquisition, and she is a criminal."
<Snowshoe> "And the other twenty?"
<Puppetmaster> Alana's not sure what to think of this. She's glancing around between the two, confused.
<Gara> "Most of them are innocent. Some of them are not."
<Snowshoe> "So you've just walked most of them out here to get them good and scared of being hanged? Why've you got twenty people out here if you know at least ten are innocent?"
<Gara> "Because they will all stand on the gallows. Not all of them will be hung."
<Snowshoe> "You're just picking innocent citizens and walking them onto the gallows?"
<Gara> "No. They were all arrested when we were capturing cultists."
<Snowshoe> Straal folds her arms. "And how are all these innocent people related? Did some of them have cultists hiding in their cupboards?"
<Gara> "They were all together."
<Snowshoe> "Where, the pub? A church?"
<Gara> "A cabin."
<Snowshoe> "You want to hang them for being together in their /home/?"
<Gara> "I want to hang them for being heretics."
<Snowshoe> "What'd they do to make themselves heretics? You owe one of them money? Somebody steal your girl? One of them look at you funny?"
<Gara> "They were heretics because they commited the crime."
<Gara> "Stealing makes you a theif. Murdering makes you a murderer. Herecy makes you a heretic."
<Snowshoe> "You've said yourself over half of 'em are innocent. How do we know you're not just yelling heresy because you don't like the way one of 'em looks?"

<Gara> "Because I actually do my job. How do we know you aren't doing this because you are with one of them, or one of them owes you money?"
<Snowshoe> "Are you going to kill me as well, just because I don't like watching innocent people hang?"
<Gara> "No. Innocent people aren't going to hang."
<Snowshoe> "So you /say/. Don't think I want someone who couldn't hack it as a priest in charge of determining my innocence."
<Gara> The man just looks at her. "That isn't how the church works."
<Snowshoe> "No? You're telling me you chose to come to a tiny town and hang people you've decided are heretics because you /want/ to be here? Picking people out of towns, hoping they've done something wrong, and hanging them if they look like they might be guilty seemed like a good job to you?"
<Gara> "No. I'm telling you I wa sordered to come to a tiny town to hang people who are heretics."
<Gara> "My position as an inquisitor has nothing to do with ever even trying to join the church a cleric."
<Snowshoe> "Guess if you start off aiming low, you can't really be disappointed. Let me tell you though, before you showed up..." She looks over at the group of prisoners. "I really didn't think we had a heretic problem. Had some nice people who lived here. kept to themselves, helped take care of people without anywhere to live..."
<Snowshoe> "Now you show up out of the blue and want to hang half of them?"
<Gara> "Because they are heretics."
<Puppetmaster> Alana's slowly getting angrier at these inquisitors.
<Snowshoe> "Helping people is heresy?"
<Gara> "No. Heresy is heresy."
<Snowshoe> "So you're gonna hang these people, some of whom are almost certainly innocent and all of whom have done nothing but good for the people they've interacted with, because they don't want to worship your god? They moved to another /continent/ because you wouldn't let them help people in Irin, how far do they have to go?"
<Gara> "Heretics are heretics. We bring heretics to justice."
<Puppetmaster> Alana's glaring at the guy speaking now.
<Snowshoe> "From what I see here, you've walked into town and started hanging good people for reasons only you and your little band here can justify. They've been here for months feeding people who can't care for themselves. Why should we sit back and let you do that?"
<Gara> "Because they commited crimes againt our holy god." The crowd is getting antsy.
<Puppetmaster> "And who's to say your god /has/ to be worshiped?"
<Gara> "Quiet, prisoner."
<Snowshoe> Straal ignores her. "Your god's got rules against helping people?"
<Gara> "It has nothing to do with them helping people. It has to do with them being heretics."
<Snowshoe> "I've been here just a /bit/ longer than you, and I've seen what they've been doing. These are good people. Compared to people like you lot, who'll cross oceans just to find somewhere you can subjugate the townsfolk and hang them for laughs, they're downright saintly."

<Gara> "She pled guilty."
<Snowshoe> "To not liking your god. Honestly, if your god's the one telling you that you need to hang people like them, I can't say I blame her. You /sure/ you're linin' up with what your god wants here? Because that really doesn't sound like the god I /thought/ you were here representing."
<Gara> He clears his throat. "Do you have a formal complaint, or can I proceed?"
<Gara> The crowd looks /angry/
<Gara> Young men are glancing at eachother.
<Puppetmaster> There's a chain between Alana's wrists, correct? As in the kind she could strangle someone with?
<Gara> Yes, yes there it.
<Snowshoe> "Yeah, I do. I think a few other people do as well, and I think you're gonna have a hell of a lot to answer for if you walk one of these people up there whether you hang them or not."
<Puppetmaster> And is there an inquisitor within reach?
<Gara> Right in front of her.
<Puppetmaster> Alana waits for the perfect moment.
<Gara> "I'm doing my job. My job is to hunt heretics."
<Puppetmaster> Would this be a combat maneuver, or another roll?
<Gara> I'll give it to you as a melee attack.
<Snowshoe> "Then I think you're either gonna have to find a new job or get your little group back to Irin, friend."
<Gara> "I doubt that."
<Gara> June, who hasn't had a rope around her neck yet, looks like she's ready for something.
<Snowshoe> She raises an eyebrow. "You gonna hang the whole town, then?"
<Gara> "Is the whole town full of heretics?"
<Snowshoe> "I don't think anyone here worships a god that condones hanging people who mind their own business and house the poor."
<Gara> "YEAH!" The crowd looks anxious, there is just a feeling of intensity over the crowd.
<Snowshoe> "So yeah, I guess from your perspective, it is."
<Gara> "Noted. Inquisitors on guard."
<Gara> He looks at you. "You have one oppurtunity to surrender yourself."
<Gara> One of the men, inquisitors, walks away from the line of prisoners. He leaves his crossbow
<Puppetmaster> 1d20+5 Ha, fat chance assholes. Alana strangles.

<Snowshoe> Straal raises an eyebrow. "You want to hang me for telling you the people you're murdering don't need to die?"
<Gara> "No, I want to arrest you for inciting a riot.
<Snowshoe> "You're the one who's trying to kill people."
<Gara> "And you are the one infereing into inquisitor business."
<Snowshoe> "When your business is hanging people for crimes nobody can confirm, I think interference is probably the the lightest sort of opposition you would expect."
<Gara> "They commited the crimes. She admitted to it.
<Gara> "GET OUT OF YOUR TOWN, MURDERER!" shouts come from the very angry crowd.
<Snowshoe> "She confirmed that she doesn't worship a god that commands her to hang people."
<Gara> Sense motives.

<Gara> This crowd is just about to start freaking out bigtime. Some of them are armed.
<Puppetmaster> Alana's still ready to choke a bitch if he starts firing.
<Snowshoe> "I think, maybe, if you let these people go and leave, you'll get out of here alive."

<Gara> Several of the towns people start edging forwards.
<Snowshoe> "Stating facts."
<Gara> One of the inquisitors raises a crossbow at him. The one in front of Alana. "STAY BACK!"
<Puppetmaster> At who?
<Gara> Someone edging towards them.
<Snowshoe> "Takes an awful long time to reload a crossbow."
<Puppetmaster> d20+5 Better he pass out than kill someone...

<Gara> He has a chain looped around his neck. The crowds yell as they charge forward.
<Gara> You start straggleing, and see several others do the same.
<Puppetmaster> Alana puts her foot against the back of his neck for force.
<Puppetmaster> She waits until he passes out.
<Gara> June pulls the man who was speaking towards her, slips the rope around his neck, and kicks the lever to drop him, jumping back.
<Gara> He is hung, dying instantly.
<Snowshoe> Straal starts checking guards for keys.
<Gara> The people start beating the inquisitors, then men with knives come forward and stab and stab and stab. They can't even raise their weapons to defend themselves as they die.
<Snowshoe> Or not.
<Gara> There is the one who just got hung.
<Snowshoe> Straal goes to check him.
<Snowshoe> She considers burning the gallows, then decides she'd rather not add literal fire to the mix
<Gara> He has keys.
<Puppetmaster> Is Alana's guy passed out and/or dead yet?
<Snowshoe> She takes his keys, feels kind of bad for a second or two, then gets over it.
<Gara> He's been brutally murdered.
<Snowshoe> She heads to the line of prisoners and starts unlocking.
<Puppetmaster> Alana drops him.
<Gara> They are freed.
<Gara> The crowd still looks a little rioty. Anyone want to talk them down?
<Puppetmaster> Alana rubs her wrists and steps away from the carnage.
<Snowshoe> Straal steps back from the crowd, then looks around for something to raise herself up on. She settles for the first step on the gallows. "Hey! They're done, they're gone, anyone else you go after is going to put you on the same level as them. But there are others like them, not here."
<Gara> "WHERE ARE THEY!"
<Puppetmaster> Alana just watches the speech. She looks guilty.
<Snowshoe> Straal raises a hand. "You're angry, and that's good. But you need to direct it. There are men near here, slavers, who do worse than these inquisitors. They capture those who do nothing but help and force them to work until they die."
<Snowshoe> raises a hand *in front of herself
<Gara> "WHERE ARE THE SLAVING SCUM HIDING!"
<Snowshoe> Straal attempts to wind them down. "We don't know where they're hiding, but all of us together can find them and destroy them. If any of you are interested in searching, come talk to me. Those of you that aren't interested... You've done a good thing today."
<Gara> "We'll find them."
<Gara> They shuffle off to their homes.
<Puppetmaster> Alana looks around for June.
<Gara> June is sitting on the gallows.
<Gara> She looks shakey.
<Puppetmaster> Alana walks up and sits by her. "Hello... I, um..."
<Puppetmaster> "I said some things in the prison which were rather rude."
<Puppetmaster> "I would like to apologize."
<Snowshoe> Straal drops forward off the step and sits on it, rubbing at her face. She looks exhausted.
