Most conscious beings get a knack for going to locations and registering landmarks. Some recall street signs of where they're headed toward, but imagine someone stole your car off the street. Where would you be at that point, you're kind of in the middle of nowhere, because of that the lack of direction takes over. Once you get the car back you might find it took a long time and it's harder to drive. Maybe you don't recall street signs as you use too either. The point is you could learn something important but it doesn't really stick because you haven't used your talents for so long. It can also be you being treated so poorly and upon finding someone who treats you nicely it feels awkward.
