  1. Dear Honored and Respected Representatives of this Great Nation,
  2.
  3. I wish to call to your attention the possible downsides of allowing "Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act H.R. 1865" to pass. Now please keep in mind, Sex Trafficking is awful and must be fought against. However this bill won't have the effect of its namesake, in fact it will actually make things much worse for victims of sex trafficking. For example, victims that are supposed to be protected may suddenly find it illegal to report their experiences. But that isn't the end of the story. An amendment slipped into the bill also proposes to override section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. CDA 230 is the reason that small independant companies can exist. It protects from liability for the actions and contents of its customers. That means that if someone didn't like something a customer of a business says, CDA 230 ensured that nuisance lawsuits can't be filed in an effort to censor the customers of a particular business under the threat of legal fees. In other words, "FOSTA H.R. 1865" will do great damage to the first amendment. Something else you may want to be aware of, this bill may actually cripple the ability to stop sex traffickers and cease a long-going citizens investigation into global sex trafficking rings and corruption. As the EFF are pointing out, if this protection is weakened, pretty soon the small voices of the people may be silenced. I implore you to look into the "FOSTA H.R. 1865" before you consider signing. This is imperative to the freedom and longevity of our great nation. If you care about freedom of expression and freedom of speech, please stop this bill.
