  1. Hy,
  2.
  3. My local service provider has absolutely nothing else to offer but an ARRIS TG2482B-85.
  4. The problem is that no matter what I do, the modem regularly crashes and reboots.
  5. Of course, I tried to get it fixed by the service provider (PR-Telekom, Hungary https://pr.hu). They changed the coaxial cable with a new one and the modem with another one of the same kind. I insisted the issue is the modem, since I had zero issues with the previous Cisco modem for several years and the problem started right after they brought this ARRIS modem into my house. Of course, I tried to show them all the publicly available information about how this modem utilized the Intel Puma 6 chipset and how companies like ARRIS lost lawsuits against unhappy customers. But the technicians of the company are simply unable to provide any alternative. The management is reluctant to provide any other cable modem brand/model besides this one. And there is zero alternative when it comes to cable-net providers where I live (wireless is practically useless here, very expensive, data is capped very low, data rate is LOW, etc).
  6.
  7. So, as a last resort, I came to ask for help from the company that originally manufactured this problematic product. (Believe me when I say, I really did exhaust my options. The cable company even started to bill me for my "fake" issue reporting to shut me up.)
  8.
  9. Thus, I would like to kindly ask ARRIS to send me a new cable modem (either through the aforementioned PR-Telekom company's agents or directly to my home address) that has the same MAC address of my service provider's unit (in case yo send it to my home address because I don't wish to fight with the service provider to accept a new MAC address, they would most probably think I am trying to hack my way around the data rate limits!) but utilizes a different chipset (like Broadcom or anything else, just not Puma...) and has similar capabilities to the aforementioned unit.
  10.
  11. Of course, I am not asking for this for totally free. I am willing to pay (but only a reasonable price!). I just want a reliable internet connection.
  12. The service provider absolutely won't help me any further, so my one and only option is to get the modem replaced by its manufacturer in a legally justified way (avoiding any potential claims of the service provider that I am breaching the terms of their terms of services and try to use a pirated modem, which they would most probably try to do in case I just went out and bought a random unit as a retail customer!).
  13.
  14. Sorry, but I really can't state this enough. I really did exhaust all other options. And the aforementioned unit is indeed making me suffer of random internet outages (it's worse than it sounds because some of the devices on my local network doesn't handle intermittent outages as smoothly as they should, some stuck in "no internet" until manually reset, but that's another topic...).
  15. And since PR-Telekom (my local service provider) insists I can't just buy my own modem and they can't fix my currently rented one, I really have to get it replaced via some legally justified, official way, like the original manufacturer of the faulty unit officially issuing a different, working replacement device due to the admitted faults of the provider-rented unit.
  16.
  17. In case you decline my honest cry for help, my only other-other/last-after-last option will be to repeat this request not as a desperate end-user through a friendly email but through a lawyer (who will be happy to cite the court cases related to these Intel Puma 6 ARRIS modems like "mine" - well, not legally mine but force-rented to me by my service provider).
  18.
  19. I REALLY hope we can find a solution. (Again, I am willing to cover some expenses if necessary, like shipping and MSRP difference between the current and replacement units, etc).
  20.
  21.
  22. Many thanks to you if you can help me with this. :)
  23.
  24.
  25. Sincerely,
  26. a very concerned ARRIS user.
