CicadaSolvers Discord Rules

-----RULES-----
Members of this server are required to follow the following rules. It is the goal of these rules to create a safe, civilized environment to open up the solving efforts to as many solvers as possible. The rules are also here to maintain the server within Discord ToS, and to avoid the termination of the server by Discord.

For your convenience, the rules have been separated into a brief functional version, and an advanced in-depth version for a more specific definition of the rules as the moderators interpret them.



-----ADVANCED RULES-----

0. Listen to the staff members.
	0A. Description
	If a staff member asks you to do something, it is in the best interests of the community as a whole to comply with their request. For example, If a staff member tells you to stop or equivalent, do as they say - they most likely know the community better than you.
	0B. Consequences
	The consequence for this is entirely dependent on the case, but you will be given a warning before you are banned.
	0C. Exceptions
		0Ci. Jokes, sarcasm, irony, etc. are excluded for obvious reasons. You do not have to abide by a staff member's requests if it is not a serious request.
		0Cii. A rule 0 ban is not allowed without the collective decision of two or more staff members. This is in order to thwart the possibility of an abuse of power by the moderators. We understand the threat this rule poses to the community. If you think a request is unreasonable, reach out to another moderator for help.



1. Read through the FAQ before posting.
	1A. Description
	Located in #faq. We have been doing this a long time, and in all likelihood the answers to your questions are written in there, in full, as well as other information that may be helpful.
	If you ask a question that can be answered by the FAQ, you will be told to read it.
	1B. Consequences
	The only consequence for this is the reputation you put on yourself. Try not to waste the time of the other solvers by asking for information that is posted there. If you do this multiple times, you will be warned.
	1C. Exceptions
	None.



2. Don't impersonate 3301 or promote fake 3301 puzzles.
	2A. Description
	Impersonating 3301 is incredibly prevalent and wastes days of time for those fooled. Moderators are skilled in identifying fake puzzles. If in doubt, ask them. You are free to do your own investigations, but discussion/promotion of unverified puzzles in this server is not allowed.
	2B. Consequences
	Warning then ban.
	2C. Exceptions
		2Ci. Jokes, sarcasm, irony, etc. do not count towards this rule.
			2Ci0. If a mod can not tell if it is a serious impersonation, a warning will be issued.
		2Cii. Discussion of fake 3301 puzzles is allowed, only promoting is banned. However, do try to make it clear that the puzzle in question is fake, so that people reading the logs do not become mistaken. Misleading messages may be deleted.



3. Follow the Discord Terms of Service.
	3A. Description
	The Discord terms of service can be found here: https://discord.com/terms. The Terms of Service are not under our control, and since this server runs on the Discord platform, all members are required to follow them.
	3B. Consequences
		3Bi. Discord reserves the right to remove your account.
		3Bii. Warning and your ToS-violating messages will be removed, then ban.
	3C. Exceptions
	None.



4. No NSFW images in any channel.
	4AA. Description
	Not Safe For Work (NSFW), or age restricted images are not allowed. NSFW comments are allowed, unless they are illegal or excessively NSFW. In order to strengthen our efforts to solve, we’d like to make the server open to everyone.
	4AB. Consequences
	Warning. You may be banned if you post NSFW repeatedly.
   	4AC. Exceptions
   	None.

    	4BA. Not Safe For Life (NSFL) content will not be allowed anywhere on this server.
   	4BB. Consequences
	Ban.
   	4BC. Exceptions
   	None.



5. No advertising/self-promoting.
    	5A. Description
   	This includes (but is not limited to) the following:
   		5Ai. Discord servers.
   		5Aii. YouTube channels.
   		5Aiii. Subreddits.
   	5B. Consequences
	Warning then ban.
   	5C. Exceptions
   		5Ci. If advertising is relevant to 3301, it is allowed, unless it is any of the following:
			5Ci(1). Discord servers.
			5Ci(2). Subreddits.
			5ci(3). Related to a fake puzzle in any way.
   		5Cii. If you are advertising your own ARG in #args-and-puzzles, it is allowed.
   		5Ciii. It is ultimately the moderator's decision to issue a warning or a ban. Depending on the relevancy to the conversation or another factor, a moderator may decide to not warn or ban the advertiser.



6. Keep conversation relevant to channel topics, especially conversation about ARGs and non-3301 related puzzles.
	6AA. Description
	Try your best to keep conversation on topic to the channel. It is confusing and does not help solving efforts.
	6AB. Consequences
	The mod team will tell you to go elsewhere.
	6AC. Exceptions
	None.

	6BA. Description
	Conversation about ARGs and non-3301 related puzzles should be in #args-and-puzzles.
	6BB. Consequences
	The mod team will tell you to go to #args-and-puzzles. If you repeatedly do it, you will be given a warning.
    	6BC. Exceptions
	None.

	6CA. Description
	Conversation about purely esoteric should be in #esoteric-spiritualist-talk.
	6CB. Consequences
	The mod team will tell you to go to #esoteric-spiritualist-talk. If you do it, you will be warned, and then muted on repeat offenses.
    	6CC. Exceptions
	None.



7. Don't be rude or unreasonable - this includes being discriminatory, harassing others, and doxxing anyone, including 3301.
    	7AA. Description
   	Don't be racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. It has no place here. This also applies to other types of antagonism aimed towards a certain group or person. In general, don't be discriminatory.
   	7AB. Consequences
	Warning then ban. If you are using slurs in a blatantly aggressive manner, you may be banned instantly.
   	7AC. Exceptions
   	None.

	7BA. Description
	Harassing. Any type of serious harassment will not be tolerated. This includes (but is not limited to) the following:
   		 a. Sexual harassment.
   		 b. Insensitive remark with malicious intents.
   		 c. DoS Attacks and the like.
   	7BB. Consequences
	Ban for serious harassment, warning then ban for minor harassment.
   	7BC. Exceptions
   	Arguments with another solver do not count as harassment, unless it really gets out of hand. If you do go over the top in an argument, it is likely you will be warned and told to go to DMs, with the chance you get muted, or even rarer, banned. It comes down to the staff member and the type of harassment and/or argument.

    	7CA. Description
	Doxing anyone, INCLUDING 3301. As a rule of thumb, don't post something about somebody without what person's consent.
   	7CB. Consequences
   	Ban.
   	7CC. Exceptions
   	A person can not be banned for releasing already publicized information about another person. For example, a Twitter account may be posted if the owner of it has shown it to the public themselves.

7. Don't be rude or unreasonable - this includes being discriminatory, harassing, and doxing anyone, including 3301. Staff members will always take action on this so don't do it.
