  1. >The fireplace roared, and you basked in the warmth in the air and the glow of your Christmas tree as fitting holiday music filled the air on this Christmas Eve.
  2. >The warmth of your air conditioner and heater, that is.
  3. >The roaring of the fireplace is entirely simulated on your living room TV alongside the music, but it's still nice.
  4. >And the tree wasn't a massive thing, fitting into your small apartment.
  5. >But, still, the scene was very comfy.
  6. >It filled your heart with that warm feeling of the holidays, and you smiled to yourself as your nuzzled against the pink hair underneath your cheek.
  7. >Underneath a blanket on the old sofa, wrapped in your arms was your lovely fiancee Natsuki.
  8. >The two of you had spent the day doing last minute preparations for the holiday; homemade gingerbread houses, wrapping gifts for friends of family, breaks to do fun things involving more rigorous physical activity.
  9. >Such as building a snowman in your front yard!
  10. >Things got a bit heated when you accidentally brushed her with a mound of snow you were brushing off, and you had an impromptu snowball fight before finishing up the snowman and heading inside.
  11. >And now, you were nestled up onto the couch together, reading a manga, sipping on hot cocoa.
  12. >You prepared that, and she was amazed at the taste.
  13. >Really, it was just Abuelo Mexican hot chocolate, but you liked it a lot and barely anybody knew about it, so it was your secret weapon.
  14. >The night had flown by, and when you looked up at the clock you realized it was already 10:00 PM.
  15. "Hey, Nat. We should probably be heading to bed, huh?" You suggested.
  16. >"What? It's only ten, Anon. Plus, we can't just stop reading here! Jack's about to fight the archmage, and it's going to be so cool! We've gotta read another chapter!" She protested with a huff.
  17. "Well, alright, but you know who's coming tonight."
  18. >"Oh, shit, you're right! Let's hurry through and get into bed, then." She turned back to the manga, and the two of you read alongside each other as the protagonist faced off against the big bad evil guy.
  19. >It was cool enough, you suppose, but your thoughts were elsewhere; particularly on what you had said a few moments ago.
  20. >While the two of you were in school, and in the Literature Club, the topic came up around the holiday season about what everybody had wanted for Christmas.
  21. >Sayori wanted more stuffed animals, Monika wanted a sheet music book, Yuri a new tea set.
  22. >Natsuki said she was writing her letter to Santa for a manga set, but was expecting clothes.
  23. >You were a bit confused but played along with your girlfriend, saying that you were writing in for some video games.
  24. >On your walk to school the next morning, Sayori revealed to you that somehow, Natsuki still believed in Santa.
  25. >At first, you were extremely surprised.
  26. >But the small tsundere was stubborn, so any beliefs she had could be easily held.
  27. >And any small thing she could find hope in was squeezed for what it was worth, given her situation.
  28. >And so, you'd made it your mission to protect that belief in Christmas magic.
  29. >You'd kept that thought in your head, and now that you were on your own with her, you were ready to enact on your mission.
  30. >Over the past few months, you saved your personal dosh up, managing to not buy any passing bullshit that you had wanted.
  31. >In November, you wrote letters with her to Santa, giving your wishlists.
  32. >And when she went with you to the post office to drop them off, some sleight of hand let you keep her letter and have her think that you deposited two.
  33. >Big brain plays.
  34. >Her letter in hand, you read through it while she was at work one day. Easy stuff.
  35. >Figures of the Parfait Girls, a bluray set of her favorite anime, a new apron, and some clothes.
  36. >The funds you saved up paid for that, and with the leftover amount, gifts for yourself to keep the guise up. Pre-owned games that you made look new, a new headset, and thrift store clothes that looked great.
  37. >Even managed to grab yourself a copy of that new fighting game at a great discount, Mega Mash Mothers Ultra.
  38. >Plus, a small gift from yourself to your cupcake. A rose-gold locket, that you placed a picture of you two in.
  39. >Cheesy, but nice.
  40. >You had these delivered to your parents house, and under the guise of helping them with decorations, you wrapped the presents there and snuck them back home whenever she was out and about.
  41. >Putting them in the attic where she'd never find them, as she was scared of the cobwebs that accumulated and was far too short to climb up there anyway, they sat til the night of Christmas Eve.
  42. >Finishing the chapter of the manga, Natsuki shot up from the couch and ran down the hall in her pajamas, the sound of her feet pattering against the hardwood floor echoing through the hallway towards the kitchen.
  43. >You heard the sound of tableware being sat down on the countertop excitedly, as well as the fridge opening and closing a few times, before Natsuki returned with a plate of gingerbread cookies and milk, which she sat down on the table.
  44. >The cookies, you noted, were decorated like the two of you.
  45. >Extremely cute.
  46. >Exceedingly moe, even.
  47. "Aw, Nat. That's cute as hell. Look tasty, too." You jokingly reached toward the cookies, before she swatted your hand away.
  48. >"Anon! Those are for Santa!" She looked at you disappointingly, crossing her arms. "Besides, haven't you had enough of my cookies today? That's like, all we've eaten."
  49. "Shucks, babe, you know I can't get enough of your baking." She blushed slightly and rolled her eyes.
  50. >"Jeez. Well, come on. I'll make you some more tomorrow after we open our presents!" Excitedly tugging on your arm, she pulls you to your feet and you walk with her to the bathroom after turning off the TV and regular lighting in the room.
  51. >The two of you brush your teeth, and after you change into more comfortable clothes of gym shorts and an undershirt, you slide into bed together and cuddle.
  52. "Night, Nat. I love you." You say, giving her a kiss.
  53. >"I love you too, Anon." She gives that sweet smile before closing her eyes, and trying her damnedest to sleep.
  54. >You know how it is; you had the same troubles when you believed in Santa.
  55. >Making sure not to slip into dreamland yourself, you feigned sleep until you thought she had gone.
  56. >Slipping out of bed, you sneak out of the room and towards the living room.
  57. >Luckily for you, the entrance to the attic was in the hallway near the living room, and you were able to get all of the presents down without a hitch.
  58. >Taking a moment to enjoy the cookies and milk, you reflect on your handiwork.
  59. >You bought one tube of gift wrap to take with you to your parents, and used theirs to wrap the locket while using the one you bought to wrap everything else to make it seem like they came from two different places.
  60. >You wrote with your non-dominant hand to give the illusion of somebody else labeling the present.
  61. >You and her had put your presents to each other under the tree days in advance.
  62. >You even took extra care wrapping everything but the locket to make it seem like a professional team of elves did it.
  63. >Truly, the biggest brain.
  64. >Cookies and milk depleted, you avoid the urge to take the empty kitchenware to the sink and begin to head to bed, before stopping by the bathroom.
  65. >Almost a dead giveaway.
  66. >Brushing your teeth to get rid of the scent of gingerbread and milk, you return to bed and cuddle back up against your love.
  67. >You glance at your phone to get a sense of time; only 1:30 AM.
  68. >You made great time.
  69. >You feign being asleep as you wrap your arm around her and hold her close, and you feel a content sigh underneath you.
  70. >Drifting into sleep, you're visited with visions of sugar plums and all that good stuff.
  71. >You're jolted awake by a familiar tugging, alongside an excited voice.
  72. >"Anon! Anon, wake up, he came!"
  73. "Huh?" You get out.
  74. >"Santa! He brought a ton of shit! Come on, let's go see what we got!"
  75. "Alright, alright, I'm getting up." You groggily get out of bed, looking at the clock. 7:30. Not bad.
  76. >Your fiancee practically drags you down the hallway toward the living room as she excitedly recounts the last night.
  77. >"While you were up using the bathroom, I heard him on the roof! I knew it, I knew it! I thought it was a dream but I know I heard it!"
  78. >Shit, looks like you made a bit too much noise. Still, looks like she bought it.
  79. >You have her nestle herself on the couch, while you bring presents over from the tree.
  80. >Taking turns opening them, you notice the twinkle in your cupcake's eyes burning brighter and brighter.
  81. >It fills you with such a warmth that you can't express.
  82. >"I can't believe it!" She exclaims, sitting in awe at the pile of loot she had before her.
  83. "What's that, honey?" You ask.
  84. >"He finally got one!"
  85. "Got what?" Your curiosity was piqued. What gift was it that she liked the most?
  86. >"My letter! So many times I just got clothes or other random shit for Christmas, I knew he had to be getting the wrong one or something! I was so good and never got what I wanted." Wet spots of joy began to form at the corners of her eyes. "And now, he got one! And he even brought you that game you wanted!"
  87. >Oh.
  88. >Something struck you; the feeling of being able to give her something she missed growing up.
  89. >To be a part of the childlike wonder, the magic of Christmas.
  90. >The pure joy she gave brought you to tears too, and you hugged her close on that couch.
  91. "Merry Christmas, Natsuki." You said, burying your face into her hair and holding her head against your chest.
  92. >"Merry Christmas, Anon!" She responded with a tone of pure bliss, holding you tight.
  93. >She backed away and looked up at you with the brightest smile you'd ever seen.
  94. >"Now, let's get to playing with our loot! Go grab your Pitch and pop in Mash Mo's. I'll throw some cookies in the oven, and then while we wait, I'm gonna kick your ass!" She said, her joy mixing with that fiery emotion you love as she got up from her spot on the couch and headed toward the kitchen.
  95. >You'd thought before about how if you had a family, you'd have to let her in on the secret.
  96. >But the thought of both your child and your wife sharing that childlike wonder for Ol' Saint Nick?
  97. >You'll make it work. That'll be worth more than anything.
  98. >Listening to the Christmas music and the roar of the simulated fireplace, and basking in the glow of the tree and the warmth in your heart, you were content.
  99. >God, I love that girl, you thought.
  100. >Merry Christmas, Natsuki.
