- Sorry for the wall of text in advance, I just simply wish to provide as much information to properly troubleshoot this.
- So, I'll Just start off with specs.
- I7-4790k
- Asus Formula VII
- Corsair Vengance Pro 2133hz cas 9 4x8GB
- 1080 TI FE (EVGA) (only about 2 weeks old)
- Corsair HX750i
- No overclocks as they wern't needed for the games i was playing currently.
- I also run games at 60hz @ 1440x2560.
- Started off with running a game and streaming it live on twitch. Normally I have my thermals up on one of my monitors, but these were hidden behind several pages of chrome, discord and OBS. Anywho. I use EVGA's Precision Xoc for my fan curve. So during this session, my GPU fan I heard suddenly ramp up to 100% for about 2 seconds and die down. Wondering why the strange behavior, I tabbed over to Precision Xoc to see my GPU had hit a temp of 90C. The program was also un-responsive to my clicks. so I closed down all applications. then re-opened Precision Xoc, Being responsive this time I then set my gpu fan to full blast, and let it sit there till my card reached 60C. At this point there was some slight artifacting on my main monitor. I knew this was not a good sign. I concluded at this point it would be best to shut down my pc, and let it cool further. An hour passes, and I boot my pc back up. as windows boots up it first puts the boot logo on my 3rd monitor. Then switches to my main (normally doesn't do this) once I reached the login screen graphical artifacts dash all over the main monitor, till it freezes in a glitch state as my 3rd monitor flickers. So I knew at this point, My card was toast.
- I contacted the EVGA and RMA'D my card, with haste they supplied me with a replacement.
- So now we're here. I put my 1080 ti in the first PCI-e slot, and apon boot, Got artifacts, main monitor froze. So I then seated it in my second PCI-e, and got very small amount of artifacts while running a game. Also every second, frames dipped to what I can assume is 10-20 for just about 1-2 frames, then shot back up to 120fps. The timing between these dips were very consistent. This is also where I discovered small graphical glitches.
- I suspect it's the motherboard now. I did some digging, but didn't find anyone in the situation i'm currently in. Process of elimination at this point. Sadly i don't have a identical Moba to test Ram and CPU (though I doubt it's these.) I will be taking my GPU to a friend's to test if it's still functional.
- Thoughts? Am i looking in the wrong direction, as at this point, It's simply assumptions. Thanks.

- Alright, Big update. Been busy; but finally getting around to this. Sorry for making this wall of text even bigger.
- So Precision XOC was defiantly having issues. first off, I believe it to be the culprit to this fiasco. It stopped functioning. GPU hit 90C+ artifacts appeared. It was also the culprit to that constant drop to 10 fps for a split second. Dead give away was this occurred, right when it updated its thermal data.
- Now, another issue, it turns out F.lux was causing memory to corrupt, screen would go red/rainbow for a second, and return to normal when exiting a specific game. The very game I exited when those thermals were high. I Knew about this, Not that F.lux was the cause. but I simply thought that the game has some issues clearing cache once it was closed. and normally would return back to normal.
- 1 out of 4 monitors/TV I have tested with the computer is having artifacts. , I'll refer to this as Monitor Q. (1440p QNIX IPS 60hz) but when multiple monitors are hooked up, with Monitor Q the others MAY artifact. Specifically when windows is loaded. (plan on further testing there. such as in safe mode) But, When Q not connected. appears all is fine.
- During this period I've gone silent. I ended up shipping in my Motherboard to ASUS, they flashed the BIOS (adding to my problems...) and tested it, claimed all was functioning properly on it.
- So now some new issues exist. BIOS is completely unresponsive/frozen. and can't grab thermals/voltages.. on anything. Example: http://i.imgur.com/rnng17I.jpg
- But it can boot into windows. I didn't bother checking if my software can detect any of this, or even stay in windows for long, as it scares me that BIOS has no clue on those voltages. Clearing the CMOS doesn't resolve this issue. But. this issue of BIOS freezing only started occurring, once I hooked it up to Monitor Q and closed the game that had issues with F.lux Note: this was before I dug into the F.lux issue and also ran into that same memory corruption from closing it. maybe the combination of the two? I've rid of F.lux now.
- I also discovered after the issue of all the artifacts with Monitor Q, after unplugging it, and plugging it back in. Windows can no longer detect it. It sees there's a display device, just can't seem to determine exactly what it is. I've connected it using Display Port to a DVI adapter, as it only has a DVI input. I've tried using a different adapter as well.
- Before all these issues, using a HDMI on a 1080p TV right after re-building it. it was functioning fine. Benchmarks, everything. Even with Precision XOC installed, i didn't notice hiccups with FPS. But, even then. the fps was so high, and adjusting so rapidly. I may have not been able to tell.
- So now i think, Maybe Monitor Q has a issue? It is a Korean monitor (refurbished IPS panel). It was cheap for what if offers. And whatever is up with my motherboard i'm going to let ASUS figure that out. They gave me a free shipping label to send it back. after telling me to clear the CMOS.
- Also part of the problem, is when Monitor Q was functioning. Artifacts weren't even consistent. show no issues until I closed that game with F.lux running.
- All this testing has been with my new 1080 TI from the RMA. I got also a 970 I can do some testing with later.
- I got a bunch of testing to do, when i can get the BIOS functioning again. I plan on testing further on the 1080 TI, with no Monitor Q. I plan on running a memory test. I may do a fresh install of windows, just wipe everything if there's still issues.
- Forgot to add: Artifacts were still occurring after F.lux was uninstalled. they're completely random with Monitor Q, sometimes right when it boots up, sometimes in the middle of any game. But, only started occuring again on Monitor Q, after the specific game + F.lux combo. then windows eventually couldn't figure out what Monitor Q was.
- Let me know any thoughts you have. Thanks in advance.
