  1. During the week of travel it takes to reach Deadwood, Winslow spends his time explaining some of the customs and history of Nefetria and its kingdoms to the groups, and discussing the town of Deadwood itself, and about the likely threat they face.
  2.
  3. 1) Deadwood is a logging town, founded by groups of people who discovered the seemingly dead forest of trees in the area are actually alive despite their appearance, and make good lumber. It is now a town of about 200 people, most of whom work in the lumber industry. All of them are in poverty by Providence standards of living.
  4.
  5. 2) As of 6 months ago, when the information reached the STC, there had been four deaths and a disappearance in town. The deaths were of four children, aged 7 to 13. The disappearance was of the town librarian and wizard. Early assumptions was that this was our proto-lich, but by all accounts this was an incredibly weak wizard who knew simple spells and potion brewing.
  6.
  7. 3) A proto-lich is something remarked about in old texts regarding the process of lichdom, however all of these texts are currently experimental at best. It is still possible that the attacks carried out are actually by some other monster or wild animal, or even another humanoid, though this is unlikely. In the event it is a proto-lich, and that the texts on them are factual, it is important to note that:
  8.
  9. A) It is serving someone who has an evil heart, and is bent on killing or harming others
  10. B) The proto-lich, much like a traditional lich, is immortal. Even if it is killed, it will reform and continue serving its master
  11. C) The only way to stop said immortality is to kill the creature's master or turn it away from it's desire for evil. Both of these
  12. should cause the body to decay into a husk, which we hope will be usable by the STC for its magical item creation.
