  1. Yewco Forest Industries
  2.
  3. Founded in 1904, Yewco is currently the largest private owner of timberland in the world, laying a claim to large swaths of woods and forests across both North and South America, focusing mainly on the west coast. This is a sore point of contention to the region's Garou, who find the concept of a company owning great stretches of Gaia's nature a slight against their goddess and their very existence.
  4.
  5. Though it wasn't under the control of Pentex until 1999, the company has a long track record of upsetting the Nation all on it's own, the most grievous offence being a vicious fight to clearcut the pristine temperate rainforest of Vancouver Island in 1993. Both Garou-backed groups and purely human ones fought back against the timber giant, catching the eye of the higher ups of Pentex, who offered the use of their First Teams to combat the protesters. The war was a bitter one, and many local Garou elders still remember the guerrilla warfare among the old-growth trees as a scene of great glory and shame both. The human government ultimately triumphed with the aid of the wolves and their kin, putting heavy regulations on what could and could not be logged, but Pentex and its hydra heads have never been ones to obey regulations.
  6.
  7. The Pentex takeover six years later was a smooth one, lending the burgeoning lumber company the pure might of the Wyrm and his allies. Since then, Yewco has been a thorn in the side of the packs and septs that call the west coast home, the company aiming its sights on the magnificent old-growth forests of Vancouver Island even as the Garou fight to shut down logging operations. A tense, quiet stalemate has settled over the western coast since the early 2000s, local Elders working to both keep one of the last beating hearts of Gaia alive and to allow their kinfolk to provide for their families; lumber is a massive employer of the local people.

  10.
  11. Monarch Tobacco Group
  12.
  13. Compared to other companies under Pentex's vast umbrella, Monarch appears the most weak; world governments have a stranglehold on its practices, and its products are almost entirely free of spiritual taint, leading to many Garou to ignore the tobacco giant. But just because almost no Wyrm-taint finds its way into the chew and cigarettes doesn't mean that Monarch is not a threat; not all damage done to humanity in the war against the Wyrm is spiritual.
  14.
  15. The myriad health problems caused by the smoking beartrap send millions of people into the arms of Magadon to treat their cancer, eczema, asthma, and heart disease. Addiction isn't always a downward spiral but it often contributes, skyrocketing prices in many countries thanks to government regulations leading to people spending much of what little they can scrape together on deadly chemicals, playing right into the Wyrm's jaws. The growth of the plant itself also contributes to deforestation, Monarch's farms often following Yewco's clearcutting efforts in less regulation-tight areas of the world, and the curing and processing pumping chemicals and heavy metals into the air and water.
  16.
  17. All in all, the Garou Nation's focus on the rooting out and destruction of the solely spiritually corrupted could prove to be its undoing.
